Westminster attacker charged with attempted murder over House of Commons barrier crash

A Westminster terror suspect has been charged with two counts of attempted murder by driving a car through crowds outside Parliament.

Salih Khater, 29, will appear in court facing a count of attempting to murder members of the public and one count of attempting to murder police officers, following the incident outside the Houses of Parliament on Tuesday.

The Sudanese-born suspect, who is a British citizen, allegedly drove his vehicle into pedestrians before swerving towards police officers.

He then crashed into barriers outside the Palace of Westminster and was arrested.

When Khater crashed into a group of cyclists before ploughing into a barrier outside Parliament it promoted a major counter terrorism operation.

Police carried out a number of property searches and Khater was detained under section 41 of the Terrorism Act.

Rooftop camera footage shows his Ford Fiesta mounting a pavement on the wrong side of the road before, witnesses said, it travelled around 40 metres (130ft) and hit a bollard.

Two weeks ago, Khater received his British citizenship meaning he could travel back to Sudan safely on his British passport.

Prosecutors will be treating his case as terrorism, the Metropolitan Police said after charging him on Saturday.

Earlier this week, a friend of Khater’s told the Daily Telegraph that he was not himself as of late.

The local taxi driver, who did not wish to be identified, said: “Last time I saw him, which was about two weeks ago. He was not himself at all. ...  because of his family problems, they were causing him a lot of stress. His father and [sibling] all died within a couple of months of each other.”

In an interview with NTA, he gave an assurance that he would not spare anyone found guilty of any corrupt practice or sabotaging the nation’s economy.

Buhari, who was reacting to happenings during his absence, including the cases of defections by politicians, said the incidents were part of the beauty of democracy.

He, however, advised all eligible Nigerians to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) to enable them elect public officers of their choose.

He explained that the commission established under the Act will, without prejudice to the powers of the President, be responsible for the appointment and disciplinary control of staff in the Civil Service of the FCT.

I have resumed, Buhari writes National Assembly

President Muhammadu Buhari

President Muhammadu has written a letter to the National Assembly, informing it of his resumption of duties as President and Commander-in- Chief of the Armed Forces.

Malam Garba Shehu, the President’s Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity confirmed this development in a statement in Abuja on Saturday.

According to the presidential aide, the transmission of the letter to the two arms of the legislature, the Senate and the House of Representatives, followed the completion of his 10-day working leave.

In the letter titled “RESUMPTION OF OFFICE” personally signed by him, on Saturday, Buhari said “In compliance with Section 145 of the 1999 constitution (as amended), I write to intimate the Senate (House of Representatives) that I have resumed my functions as the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria with effect from today, Saturday, 18th August, 2018, my vacation.

“Please accept, Distinguished Senate President, (Hon. Speaker, House of Representatives) the assurances of my highest consideration.”

Gov. Ortom speaks on dumping PDP for SDP.

Governor of Benue State, Samuel Ortom on Friday said no amount of gang-up against him within the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, would make him leave the party for another political party again

There have been insinuations that the governor may defect from the PDP to the Social Democratic Party, SDP.

Ever since his defection from the All Progressives Congress, APC to the PDP, there have been some unresolved disagreement between him and the leadership of his new party over who controls the structure of the party in the state.

Speaking on behalf of the governor on Friday, his Chief Press Secretary, Terver Akase, told reporters in Makurdi that talks between Ortom and other governorship aspirants within the PDP were still ongoing.

He said, “As l speak with you, there is no such thought (of defecting) at all. The governor has joined the PDP, he was in the PDP before he left and he has said that he has come back home. So, there is no such thought at all.

“Ortom is a true member of the PDP and is confident of flying the PDP flag in next year’s election.

“So, why should he think about leaving the PDP? There is no reason and no cause for such thought as I speak with you. l don’t have to comment about what any aspirant is saying because the PDP I know is a big family that makes decisions to accommodate all its members.

“The party is still discussing and decisions have yet to be reached, but l know that any decision taken would not make Ortom to leave the PDP again.”

Dogara speaks on ‘fight’ with Saraki

Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, has rubbished stories claiming that he is at loggerheads with the Senate President, Bukola Saraki.

Dogara made this clear in a statement signed by Turaki Hassan, his Special Adviser (Media & Public Affairs).

“Please beware of evil people, merchants of lies, falsehood and mendacity whose primary occupation is to concoct, contrive, fabricate and brew mischief and fake news which they spread and broadcast like wild fire on social media.

“These paid minions who have sold their conscience and souls to the devil for a morsel have been broadcasting lies on social media especially WhatsApp with the sole aim of deceiving and hoodwinking the public into believing that there is a rift between the two leaders of the National Assembly – Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki and His Excellency Rt Hon. Yakubu Dogara.

“To the contrary, Dr. Saraki and Barrister Dogara have enjoyed harmonious working relationship in the last three years. The Rt. Hon. Speaker will never ever say those things about the President of the Senate. But for the unsuspecting members of the public and supporters of the two leaders, we would have ignored this latest round of fallacious and fictitious perfidy which is nothing but a piece of devilish fiction as it will fizzle out and end in the pit of hell where it came from,” the statement read.

Earlier this week, both leaders of the two legislatives houses, issued a joint statement explaining why the National Assembly could not reconvene.

Pastor who prophesied Otedola tanker explosion makes shocking revelations on Buhari

Prophet Udensi Godlove of Land of Oil Prophetic Ministry (AKA Hill of the Lord), Lagos has predicted the outcome of the 2019 general elections.

The cleric gained national recognition in June, when in a viral audio message, he prophesied the Otedola bridge tanker explosion where nine persons were roasted to death and more than 54 vehicles burnt to ashes along Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

He also warned Nigerians to pray and avoid traveling out of Lagos on some certain days because of a looming disaster.

Speaking with dailypost during the week in Abuja shortly after ministering at Joshua Talena Shpeherd’s House, the young prophet said that power would only change hand in 2019 if President Muhammadu Buhari chose to withdraw from the presidential race.

According to him, there will be a cold war before, during and after the election, but at the end, the storm would role away.

Asked to comment on the outcome of his prophecies, which sparked nationwide debate, the fiery preacher said, “The aftermath of the prophecies has been overwhelming. In fact, so many people have been calling and as a matter of fact, many people who have not been taking prophetic declarations seriously have been calling and asking for spiritual directions in other to escape all the tragedies.

“It has created a lot of awareness. One good thing about it is that it brought about reawakening because so many people now believe that truly God speaks.

“I knew the prophecies would spark controversy, but I am messenger and I had to do my job. When you are a messenger, you don’t bother about the repercussion of the message if you are delivering it the way the messenger wanted it to be delivered.”

On how he feels if his prophecies don’t come to pass, he said, “It is very rare because most my prophecies always come to pass except the one that has to do with individuals that they have small roles to play before the prophecy would come to pass. For instance, if God says you are going to have a baby boy and you spend three years without meeting your wife, the prophecy cannot come to pass.”

When reminded that many men of God predicted that immediate past president, Goodluck Jonathan was going to win the 2015 general election but it failed, he said, “Do God lie? No, God is not an author of confusion. Some people prophesy out of sentiments so they tend to speak towards the direction of that person. But when God speaks, it must come to pass. When you see a conflicting interest, it is not that God is divided, those behind the prophecies did that behind their selfish motives and what they stand to gain. This is why there is conflict of interest.”

On what Nigerians should expect in the 2019 general, Udensi said, “2019 is going to be very interesting. By the Grace of God I have watched the election twice, the election day, after the election and the result of the election.

“You know in 2015, there was a lot of tension before the main elections; it was as if Nigeria was going to break, in fact, there will be tension everywhere but along the line, the storm will just disappear.

“There is something you have to learn about Nigeria, they can shout but are afraid to die.

“I see some few candidates coming up, by the end peace will reign. There would be cold war, but there won’t be battle. There is no cause for alarm.”

Asked if power would change hand, he said, “Power changing hand? No, power will only change hand if the president decides to withdraw his candidacy from the race; apart from that, I don’t see any power changing hand.”

On the killing in the nation, the man of God said, “Every life is important to God. These killings are signs of demonic presence. So there are people who have sold their souls to the devil, there are some people who are celebrating the killings in the nation. The truth is that they will not escape the wrath of God.”

President Buhari commiserates with Ghana, UN over Kofi Annan’s demise

President Muhammadu Buhari has commiserated with the government and people of Ghana over the passing of former United Nations Secretary General, Kofi Annan, in the early hours of Saturday.

A statement released on the verified Twitter handle Presidency Nigeria @NGRPresident, noted that President Buhari called Ghanaian President Nana Akufo-Addo from London, telling him that all Nigerians and ECOWAS member countries share in the deep loss, considering the strategic influence of the former scribe in global affairs and his vision for the repositioning of West Africa especially, and Africa in general.

“As the first staff of the UN elected to lead the organisation and an African winner, in 2001, of the Nobel Peace Prize — jointly with the United Nations — the President noted that Annan’s humility, nobility and love for humanity set him apart for global greatness, achieving recognition and commendation for the reform of the United Nations’ bureaucracy and multiple interventions to bring peace to the world,” the statement said.

“President Buhari said Annan’s origin and home will always be traced to Ghana, but his exceptional leadership roles, humanitarian spirit and contributions to global peace and development will remain indelible in the history of the entire world, especially the efforts to combat HIV/AIDS in Africa and the launch of the UN Global Compact,” the statement concluded.

UN mourns ex-chief Kofi Annan

The United Nations is mourning the death of former Secretary-General Kofi Annan, who passed away peacefully after a short illness, according to a statement published on his official Twitter account on Saturday.

The current UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres paid glowing tributes to the former Secretary-General, who headed the intergovernmental organisation from 1997 to 2006.

The renowned Ghanaian diplomat was 80 years old.

His foundation announced his death on Saturday and the late UN scribe reportedly died in hospital in Bern, Switzerland, in the early hours of Saturday.

Guterres hailed Annan as “a guiding force for good” and a “proud son of Africa who became a global champion for peace and all humanity.”

“Like so many, I was proud to call Kofi Annan a good friend and mentor.

“I was deeply honoured by his trust in selecting me to serve as UN High Commissioner for Refugees under his leadership.

“He remained someone I could always turn to for counsel and wisdom – and I know I was not alone,” Guterres said in a statement.

Annan was the seventh Secretary-General of the United Nations, after Egyptian diplomat, Boutrous Boutrous-Ghali exit in December 1996.

The UN chief said: “He provided people everywhere with a space for dialogue, a place for problem-solving and a path to a better world.

“In these turbulent and trying times, he never stopped working to give life to the values of the United Nations Charter. His legacy will remain a true inspiration for all us.”

Kofi Annan was born in Kamasi, Ghana, on April 8, 1938.

He joined the UN system in 1962 as an administrative and budget officer with the World Health Organisation in Geneva, rising through the ranks to hold senior-level posts in areas such as budget and finance, and peacekeeping.

He served as UN Secretary-General for two consecutive five-year terms, beginning in January 1997.

Freezing of Account: Akwa Ibom Government slams N50b suit on EFCC

Akwa Ibom State Government has filed N50 billion lawsuit against the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, over an unlawful freezing of its account recently.

The State’s Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Barr. Uwemedimo Nwoko disclosed this to newsmen in an interview on Friday at the Government House Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.

Other defendants named in a writ by the Attorney general are: The Attorney General of the Federation, Zenith Bank PLC, Skye Bank PLC and the United Bank for Africa PLC.

Nwoke noted that the anti-graft agency had no constitutional powers to freeze the states government account.

According to him, “There is no basis even in the constitution of Nigeria or any other enabling law made by anybody whether the National Assembly or the state Assembly or any other convention that authorizes any federal agency or any agency to shut down the account of a state government as done by the EFCC.

”I want to state clearly that even if there were to be an investigation that the EFCC was carrying out about whether there was any fraud committed against Akwa Ibom state in that circumstance, it should be the government of Akwa Ibom that should be the victim, so there was no basis for freezing the account they claimed that they were investigating a fraud against that state government.”

On whether the freezing of the state account has any political undertone, Nwoke declined comment, insisting that he would pursue the matter legally and to a logical conclusion.

The Attorney General regretted that the state account that was shut down stalled the Economic, security and business operations in the state, adding that some prospective investors in the state developed cold feet due to such the singular act thereby subjecting the state to lose billions of Naira.

”The singular attempt of freezing the account of the state government was shutting down the state. Akwa Ibom state was brought down on its knees, it was an attempt to paralyze and completely demobilize the activity of the state.

”We could not respond to economic, security and business exigencies. Most importantly, the investors that were coming to Akwa Ibom began to have a second thought and became worried about the status of their investment. Those who were on their way began to go back. so we suffered unquantifiable losses.” He said.

Nwoko also taunted the EFCC’s report denying freezing of Akwa Ibom state government account, saying that, that was a face saving approach by the anti graft agency.

He added that the state government had every evidence to prove that its accounts were frozen.

On the report of tracing about N11 billion to accounts owed by top lawyers in the country, the Attorney General said the state government had lawyers under its employ and it owed them obligation to pay them their fees, arguing whether it was unlawful for lawyers who work for a state government to receive their legitimate earnings.

The Nine Kinds Of People Supporting Buhari For A Second Term

Corruption is fighting back! That is the constant refrain from the people in government and their supporters to criticism of President Muhammadu Buhari or opposition to his re-election ambition.

If, for example, you’re a journalist and you believe the President hasn’t done enough to earn a second term, it is because brown envelopes have been in short or no supply. If you’re a politician and you feel this way, you stole while in office or you will if you get there. All of us who have opted not to say ‘Sai Baba’ ahead of 2019 have one thing in common: corruption.

Fortunately for Buhari’s supporters, they can’t all be shoehorned into one homogeneous group. Who, who and who, or which classes of people, belong to this heterogeneous mix? And are they supporting their man in the country’s best interest?

The people in government: Around the time when former President Goodluck Jonathan was being told by some bigwigs in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) he could not contest the 2015 presidential election because he had served out the remainder of the late Umaru Yar’Adua’s tenure (2010 to 2011) and was serving out a fresh term of his own (2011 to 2015), he met with Lagos-based print newspaper editors. When one of them asked him if he would re-contest or not, he neither said yes nor no. But he asked them to look into the mirror; the editorship of many of them predated his presidency yet they were still in office. He wasn’t chastising them but making a valid point about how self-perpetuation in power is intricately human. It is no surprise that the people in Buhari’s government are desperate to have him back in 2019 despite the numerous and obvious red flags. Buhari is not the reason they support Buhari; their real interests are self-serving. To expect people in government to priotise the nation over self is a tall order very few people are capable of. The people in this group we must empathise with, not chastise.

The political jobbers: Buhari’s ascent to power is widely believed to have wrecked individuals and businesses that thrive on political jobbing, government patronage and official graft. While this may or may not be true, there is no doubt that there are individuals all over the country whose financial stocks have risen either directly through Buhari’s coming to power or indirectly through the people working with him. No matter the scale of poverty, government ineptitude, insecurity and anti-corruption hypocrisy in the land, these people will give anything for another four Buhari years. The challenge with having people like this around is that you never know why they do what they do or say what they say about re-electing the President in 2019.

The face-savers: If, like me, you clamoured for Buhari in 2015 because you considered him the ‘lesser of two evils’ but he lost you along the way in his presidential reign, it’s not the end of the world — and few things are more honourable in life than admitting a mistake when one has been made. If Buhari let you down with his biased handling of security, sending soldiers to the South-East to finish off the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) without doing the same to terrorist herdsmen; or he slipped out of your good books with his bow-legged anti-corruption crusade, locking up corrupt opposition members with the speed of light but applying snail’s-speed treatment to similar elements in his cabinet, it’s not the end of the world and it’s not your fault. The people in this category are desperate to avoid the I-told-you-so smirk of Goodluck Jonathan’s supporters should they publicly express their disillusionment with Buhari. In here are people who are either against Buhari in private but with him in public, or are with him both ways but are constantly in a struggle with themselves on whether their choice is indeed right.

The PR strategists: These are about the deadliest of Buhari’s supporters — not because they can kill but because they can be sat right next to you but you won’t know, and also because they’re, more often than not, brilliant. They speak fluent English, write flowery prose and present mesmerizing arguments. However, for them, supporting Buhari is not about personal conviction but about professionalism in garnering public support for their candidate. There are so many of them dotting the social-media space. These guys are only just doing their job; nothing more.

The religious fanatics: These are the opportunity-cost supporters. Some love Buhari because they love him, others simply because of the Yemi Osinbajo factor. They are a blend of the two leading faiths — Christians who would support Buhari or any other President for that matter so long his deputy is a Redeemed Christian Church of God pastor; and Muslims who won’t stop chanting ‘Sai Baba’ even if pump price of petrol were to rise to N600/litre. To them, Buhari can be the opportunity cost of having Osinbajo in government, and they do not mind at all.

The ethnic jingoists: They want a Hausa-Fulani as President in 2019; simple. Not much needs to be said about this group, easily recognizable on social media by their names. We all have one or two of them on our timelines, don’t we?

The northern foot soldiers: These are a huge majority of the 12.7million people who voted for Buhari in 2003 or the 12.2million who did in 2011. In the last three years, nothing has changed about Buhari’s popularity in the North. As seen by the mammoth crowds that welcomed him during his recent visits to Bauchi, Jigawa and Kano, Buhari is still the most loved northerner alive. Pure, blind love. One of them trekked from Yola to Abuja to witness the presidential inauguration in 2015, but while he’s currently stuck at the Yola FMC due to a leg injury he sustained from the expedition, his “political role model” is re-energising himself in the UK. Still, whether or not Buhari extends his current 10-day vacation by 100 days, these people will vote him in 2019.

The APC supporters: Had Buhari been the PDP candidate, these people wouldn’t support him. But their loyalty belongs to the party and, by extension, its candidate. In this class also are people whose uncles, aunts, second cousins, in-laws, bosom friends, brother of their sugar daddy’s nephew or father of their friend’s sister’s husband, is contesting for some office in 2019 under the APC ticket. How dare you seek the party’s ticket without backing the President?

The naivetés: It’s honestly hard to blame them. They genuinely lack the ability to analyse issues beyond the surface. In their minds, Buhari is truly fighting corruption, bolstering the economy, killing off Boko Haram, providing exemplary leadership and putting food on the poor man’s table. And, above all, corruption is fighting back!

So, when next you run into someone who just doesn’t understand that Nigeria deserves better than Buhari in 2019, don’t get mad at them. Run through these nine groups and you will find one that best suits them, and you can therefore understand how their mind is working. And if you find some who fit into none of these nine groups, please feel free to create a tenth group for them.

President Buhari arrives Abuja after London vacation

President Muhammadu Buhari has returned to Nigeria after spending about 15 days in London, UK.

The presidential aircraft touched down Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja on Saturday.

President Buhari arrives Abuja after London vacation lailasnews 1

It was gathered that ahead of his arrival, a Guard of Honor was mounted at the airport to receive the President who departed Nigeria for the United Kingdom on August 3. Prior to his trip, President Buhari had handed over power to the Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, in acting capacity while he was away.

Femi Adesina, the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, had in a statement on August 1 notified Nigerians that the President would be away for 10 working days. His statement further noted that Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo would be the Acting President during the period.

Adesina had said, “President Muhammadu Buhari begins a 10- working day holiday from August 3, 2018. In compliance with Section 145 (1) of the 1999 Constitution, a letter has been transmitted to the President of the Senate, and the Speaker, House of Representatives to that effect.

“While the President is on vacation, the Vice President will be in acting capacity as President.

“President Buhari will be in London for the holiday.”

While the President was away, Acting President Osinbajo had sacked the Director-General of the Department of State Services, Mr. Lawal Daura, and asked that Mr. Matthew Seiyefa, being the most senior officer, take over in acting capacity. Daura’s sacking followed the invasion of the National Assembly by officials of the DSS.

Osinbajo had also, while Buhari was away, ordered the Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, to overhaul the Special Anti-Robbery Squad following public outcry over the activities of the police unit.

Meanwhile, President Buhari on Friday rejoiced with the founder and Chairman of Honeywell Group, Ayoola Oba Otudeko, who turns 75 on Saturday.

Simonne Kerr, Britain's Got Talent Finalist, Stabbed to Death in London

Just days after former E! star Lyric McHenry was found dead of an apparent drug overdose in New York City, police in Great Britain have confirmed the following piece of heartbreaking news...

Simonne Kerr, a finalist just this past season on Britain's Got Talent, was stabbed to death in London on Wednesday afternoon.

She was 31 years old.

According to local authorities, law enforcement officials were called to a residential address at Grayshott Road in Battersea just around 12:30 p.m. on August 15.

Upon their arrival, these cops discovered that Kerr had suffered a grave knife wound; she was pronounced dead at the scene.

The following day, a 40-year-old named Desmond Slyva was charged with her murder. His motives remain unclear at this time.

He appeared at Wimbledon magistrates court on Friday and did not enter a plea, according to The Guardian.

Police are not investigating any additional suspects, this same newspaper reports.

Kerr performed on Britain's Got Talent back April as a member of NHS choir group B Positive, which was comprised of singers between the ages of 22 and 62.

Each of them has either been diagnosed with sickle cell anemia or have loved ones with sickle cell anemia.

It was a pretty cool story and it made significant headlines overeas at the time.

Kerr, who worked as a hematology and oncology nurse, joined the group in 2015 after her six-year-old son, Kavele, passed away from the disease.

This is a photo of Kerr and Kavele, both of whom are sadly no longer with us:

The inspiring group advaned all the way to the show’s finale in June, but were ultimately bested by the eventual winner, Lost Voice Guy.

Following the news of Kerr’s awful death, the choir posted a message to Twitter that reads:

Our thoughts are with Simonne’s family at this tragic time. She was a valued member of the B Positive choir who was passionate about blood donation following the loss of her son.

We are devastated at the loss of a well-loved choir member and friend.

In regard to her son, her singing and her motivation in life, Kerr once said the following to the NHS blog:

"I got to spend six wonderful years watching Kavele grow and though there were a handful of hospitalizations in his short life, I was positive that he would live a full life into adulthood.

"I lost him in 2015 …

"Singing can be such an uplifting experience so joining the B Positive choir seemed the obvious way to raise awareness of the urgent need for more young and black people to give blood while doing something positive and motivational."

John James, the chief executive of Britain’s Sickle Cell Society also Tweeted in response to this tragedy, writing:

“So so shocked to hear that our friend, Sickle Cell Society volunteer and B-Positive Choir member Simonne Kerr has been tragically killed. In shock.

"My thoughts are with her mother, siblings and other family members.”

May Simonne Kerr rest in peace.

Born in Kumasi, the capital city of Ghana’s Ashanti region, Annan became the first black head of the United Nations.

“I have directed that, in his honour, Ghana’s national flag will fly at half-mast across the country and in all of Ghana’s diplomatic missions across the world” for one week from Monday, Akufo-Addo said.

“He brought considerable renown to our country by this position and through his conduct and comportment in the global arena,” Akufo-Addo said.

“He was an ardent believer in the capacity of the Ghanaian to chart his or her own course on to the path of progress and prosperity.”

Woman with heart-shaped womb gives birth to twins

Heart-shaped uterus that nursed the twins

If anyone wishes to know what it’s like to give birth with a bicornuate uterus (heart-shaped uterus), they might find out by asking the unidentified 39-year-old woman with the condition that gave birth to twins in Russia.

She was born with the abnormality believed to strike one in 1,000 women. Normally the womb is pear-shaped.

Doctors warned for years that she would struggle to ever have children—but she defied their expectations to become pregnant with twins. The woman, from Moscow, required a Caesarean section to give birth to her twins, who were both born healthy, according to the Mailonline.

Before she gave birth, only a dozen cases of twins born to mothers with the unusual condition had ever been recorded in medical literature. Actress Lena Dunham suggested she also has a bicornuate uterus earlier this year, when she revealed she had a heart-shaped womb.

She named her son Evgeny, who was born weighing 7lbs, and daughter Varvara, born weighing slightly under 6lbs.

Local reports state the woman had been told for years that she had ‘no chance of children’ due to her womb abnormality.

But experts say having the unusual-shaped womb does not cause extra problems with conception but there is a slightly higher risk of miscarriage.

Women with with a bicornuate womb are often urged to have a C-section because it can affect the way their baby lies in pregnancy.

Moskovsky Komsomolets, a daily newspaper in Moscow read by nearly one million people each day, was the first to break the story.

They reported that “when doctors took the uterus out they could not believe their eyes, it had the perfect shape of a heart.”

The newspaper also revealed ‘the uterus was not removed, it was only photographed and put back” so the woman could have more children, if she wishes.

Doctors at Bauman Moscow Clinical Hospital number 29 said the woman revealed she did want to extend her family at some point.

The medics published the incredible picture on their official Instagram account, with the mothers’ permission.

More than 3,000 people have liked the post since it was uploaded.

The chief doctor on duty for the twins’ birth was Dr Olga Lukanovskaya. Other medics involved were Dr Konstantin Ryabtsev, Dr Elena Chebotaryova and anaesthetist Dr Alexei Kiselyov.

A bicornuate uterus—the medical name for a heart-shaped womb—is an abnormality believed to strike one in 1,000 women. The team at Kütahya Dumlupinar University published the tale in the journal Case Reports in Obstetrics and Gynecology.

Writing in the publication at the time, they said: ‘To date, there are only 12 reported cases of twin pregnancy in bicornuate uterus.’

Figures suggest three per cent of women are born with an irregular uterus, of which a heart-shaped womb is one of the most common defects.

Turkish doctors were astounded when they came across a woman with a bicornuate uterus who gave birth to twins in 2013.

Dunham, creator and star of hit series ‘Girls’, had a hysterectomy to combat her endometriosis-related pain, she revealed earlier this year.

The actress, 31, revealed she had the procedure in the March issue of Vogue, in which she described her uterus as being heart-shaped.

Doctors discovered she had other medical issues that were causing her pain during the procedure.

She said: “My ovary has settled in on the muscles around the sacral nerves in my back that allow us to walk. Let’s please not even talk about my uterine lining. The only beautiful detail is that the organ—which is meant to be shaped like a light bulb—was shaped like a heart.”

The idea of a heart shaped uterus sounds romantic and many women having the abnormality have had successful and happy pregnancies. In reality however, a heart shaped uterus is an abnormality that can cause real issues when it comes to pregnancy.

James Nicopoullos, Consultant Gynaecologist at HCA UK’s The Lister Fertility Clinic, describes the condition as one of a number of congenital anomalies of the shape of the uterus (womb).

According to Nicopoullos, the abnormalities occur when the woman herself is an embryo in the womb, and “do not change shape during life.”

When a female foetus’ womb is being formed, a pair of ducts known as the “paramsonephric ducts” fuse together to form the uterus, tubes and cervix. Usually, it forms in the shape of a pear, but in women with a heart shaped uterus these ducts do not fuse correctly and “you can be left with a uterus that is completely heart shaped,” explained Nicopoullos.

The effects of this generally only emerge later in life, however, when a woman is trying to have a baby. “A heart shaped uterus is often asymptomatic, so is only picked up in routine investigation of other gynaecological problems such as miscarriage or infertility.”

The reason a heart-shaped uterus causes miscarriages is not totally understood however Nicopoullos explained the expert thinking is that “the change in shape may affect the ability of the uterus to allow a healthy embryo to implant correctly.”

Another concern surrounding a heart-shaped uterus includes the impact it may have on the growth of the baby. This could “increase the risk of a low birth weight, increase the risk of preterm labour, and increase the risk of needing a caesarean section,” Nicopoullos described.

While the concept of a heart shaped uterus sounds concerning where having a successful pregnancy is concerned, it’s not all doom and gloom. Surgical treatment is available, although Nicopoullos notes that this “tends to be limited to women with recurrent miscarriage.”

Surgery is also usually offered to those with a specific type of heat-shaped uterus known as ‘a uterine septum’, where a piece of tissue dividing the womb into two is removed to form one open cavity, as it should be.

But just because a heart shaped uterus can cause reduced fertility, it doesn’t mean it won’t happen at all —your pregnancy would just be deemed higher risk once you did conceive, and you’d receive extra monitoring for that reason.

The Tiv Traditional Council, TTC, also known as (Ijir Tamen) Friday, unanimously agreed to stand by Governor Ortom in the implementation of the Open Grazing Prohibition and Ranches Establishment Law. They urged the governor to stand firm and resist any pressure to surrender Benue land to herders under whatever guise.

The Council made its position known in a resolution at its meeting in Gboko, the traditional headquarters of the Tiv nation.

The traditional rulers stated that “if Governor Ortom would be crucified because he chose to resist the invasion and occupation of our land, we are ready to be crucified with him.”

The decision of the Tiv supreme council was taken after the Tor Tiv, Prof. James Ayatse conducted a voice vote which saw representatives of all intermediate areas of Tiv land, namely: Jemgbagh, Jerchira, Kwande and MINDA unanimously rejecting any attempt to suspend the ranching law of the state.

The paramount rulers cautioned Tiv sons and daughters against politics of violence and acrimony, stressing that “anyone who encourages political violence in Tiv land would face unpleasant consequences.”

Addressing the Ijir Tamen, Governor Ortom disclosed that his refusal to support the organized pogrom against the people of the state was the beginning of his travails.
