34 Weeks Pregnant Lady Ran 800mts Track Race In US.

Alysia Montana.

Despite being 34 weeks pregnant, Alysia Montaño ran the 800m on Thursday in the US Track and Field Championships.
The five-time national champion finished being 2min 32.13sec in the qualifying rounds, only seven weeks before she’s scheduled to give birth to her first child.
That the 28-year-old former University of California star finished last in her heat didn’t matter one bit to the crowd gathered at Hornet Stadium.
Trailing the lead pack by more than 120m for most of the race,
Montaño received a rousing ovation as she finished her first lap and the cheering grew louder when she finally crossed the finish line.
“I’ve been running throughout my
pregnancy and I felt really, really good
during the whole process,” Montaño said. “I just didn’t want to get lapped and be the first person to get lapped in the 800.” Montaño, who won the 800 national titles the past four years, was never in danger of being lapped. She took a nice relaxed pace from the start and maintained it throughout. That was according to the plan
Montaño laid out after consulting with her physician. Not only did doctors give Montaño permission to run, they
encouraged her.
“That took away any fear of what the
outside world might think about a woman running during her pregnancy,” Montaño said. “What I found out mostly was that exercising during pregnancy is actually much better for the mom and the baby. I did all the things I normally do, I just happened to be pregnant. This is my
normal this year.”

South African High Court Rejects Henry Okah's Application To Be Transfered To Pretoria Prison.

The High Court in Pretoria
dismissed an application on Friday to
relocate convicted Nigerian terrorist Henry Okah from a prison in KwaZulu-Natal to one in Pretoria, said the department of correctional services.
Okah had asked the court to set aside
internal disciplinary committee findings and sanctions that resulted in him being moved to the Kokstad Super Maximum Correctional Centre in KwaZulu-Natal.
The committee's decision followed
allegations that Okah had repeatedly tried to escape from custody, said department spokesperson Manelisi Wolela.
Okah wanted to be transferred to the KgosivMampuru II Correctional Centre in Pretoria.
"The department of correctional services' submission argued against the urgency, the failure of the applicants to exhaust internal remedies and the absence of a
cogent reason for requiring the declaration of actions taken by the department invalid," Wolela said in a statement. Okah was sentenced to 24 years' imprisonment in March last year after being convicted on 13 counts of terrorism, including engaging in terrorist activities,
conspiracy to engage in terrorist activities, and delivering, placing, and detonating an explosive device.
The charges related to two car bombs
detonated in Abuja, Nigeria, on 1 October 2010, the anniversary of the country's independence. Twelve people were killed and 36 were injured. Another bombing took place in Warri on 15 March 2010, at a post-amnesty dialogue meeting. One person was killed and 11 were seriously injured.
In both bombings, two car bombs went off minutes apart. The cars were parked in close proximity to each other.
Okah made threats to the South African government after his arrest here in 2010.

Lagos Socialite Arrested For Stealing Goods Worth N2.9Million In Portharcourt Boutique.

Ifeoma
Stolen goods.

32-year-old woman alleged to be engaged in stealing in Port Harcourt,  Rivers State, has been arrested  by operatives of the Rivers State Police Command.

The single parent was arrested in her Ikoyi residence  in Lagos, for allegedly stealing goods worth N2.9 million.

Described as a socialite, and judging from classy appearance, soft-spoken Ifeoma Wiilliam Iheanacho does not look like a criminal.Aside this physical feature is the fact that the suspect,t popularly called Ify, possesses an international passport which showed she has made trips to Hungary, Dubai, China and has even lived in Hong Kong for three years. She also speaks different languages and quite knowledgeable about many things. The suspect, from Mbieri community in Mbaitolu Local Government Area of Imo  State , according to the Rivers State Police Command, visited  Zara Boutique  at  4, Mbonu Street, D/line, Port Harcourt, on March 26, 2014, posing as a wealthy customer and a friend of the owner, one Mrs Oroma Amadi. Prior to the visit, Ify  reportedly acquainted herself with the owner. On that day, the shop owner was out. “She entered the shop  asking to be shown the female trousers area. The unsuspecting salesgirl, Kemeagbeye Rachael, 21, led the suspect to the area where she selected two pairs of trousers and bargained but was dissatisfied with the price  and requested to speak to the  shop owner. When the salesgirl put a call through to her ‘madam’, Ifeoma spoke with her and consequently the unsuspecting   salesgirl agreed  to her demand,” a police source narrated.“After conversing with Mrs Amadi on phone, Ifeoma  didn’t give phone back to the sales girl. Instead she asked her to go into the inner part of the store to get some other wares for her. While Rachel was busy sorting out other things as directed , Ifeoma proceeded to edit the ‘madam’s’ contact on the phone which was still with her, by replacing the  number with her’s. Then she gave the phone back and minutes later, she sent a text message to the girl posing as her boss. The message sent read thus ‘ I’m in a meeting , Mrs Jay is already in the shop. ‘Pls give her what she wants, I will pick the money on my way to the shop’.

Shortly after that another message came  which read ‘ also give her the hair box’. To further convince the salesgirl, she was said to have asked her if she had  received any text message from the owner of the shop in respect of the transaction, to which she responded in the affirmative. At that point, the sales girl,  in her statement to the police, said Ifeoma started  packing  the wares selected. She allegedly selected assorted wares ranging from  female bags to  clothes, wrist watches, male/female shoes and shirts estimated at N2.9 million and left the boutique.Hell, literally let loose when owner of the boutique arrived ,only to be confronted with the unexpected.

Her sales girl was stunned beyond description  on noticing that she had been fooled! The case was immediately reported to the Rivers State Special Anti-Robbery Squad  which  initially found  the theft  a difficult nut to crack because of  its  clueless nature. However, the breakthrough the operatives needed came two months later when they were able to track the suspect’s  call data through a complex set of operation.

Police sources said: “ One Ikechukwu Onyema, aka Van Damme , later discovered to have bought the stolen goods from Ifeoma, was contacted. His confessional statement led us to the suspect’s  place in Lagos  from where she was  transferred to Port Harcourt . Some of the stolen goods were recovered from her.“During interrogation, the mother of  one, who claimed she had both her primary and secondary education in Abia State, also claimed to have been a student of theatre  arts at University of Ibadan before dropping out after she became pregnant.“ She confessed to have  carried  out similar operations in different boutiques in Port Harcourt using her one time fiancé’s Lexus jeep to pose as an affluent customer. After her confession, she soberly said; ‘I want Nigerians to forgive me, I still can’t understand why I chose to steal seeing that I am a comfortable lady.”Rivers State Commissioner of Police Tunde Ogunsakin, while reacting to the arrest , advised members of the public to be mindful of the people they deal with, adding that such incident could befall anyone who turns a blind eye to caution while doing business.“This case involves a really smart criminal, one that you won’t easily suspect and it can happen to any person. So we can all see that one cannot be too careful when dealing with customers and other members of society”, stated Ogunsakin.

CONFAB Approves Creation Of State Police,Rejects Proposal To Merge Civil Defense &Road Safety Commission.

Confab in session.

The National Conference on Thursday
approved a recommendation for the
creation of state police to complement
duties of the Nigeria Police Force in the country.
The approval was given during the adoption of report of the Committee on National Security in Abuja.
The conference adopted the retention of one Federal Police Force that is decentralised to involve participation by states, local governments and communities.
Following the adoption, however, some delegates raised concern on the possibility of harmonious co-existence of both federal
and state police, considering that their
duties might overlap.
They raised concern on the appropriate title for commissioners of police in charge of state police and federal police as well as modalities for posting commissioners under
the federal system to states.
A voice vote was later taken and delegates voted against seeking the consent of a state governor before the posting of a federal police commissioner to any state.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that they equally voted against state governors being involved in the running of police commands in their states.
Thereafter, the conference adopted funding of state police by state government and abolishment of monetisation of a special protection unit of the Nigeria Police Force,
which seemed to privatise security.
In the same vein, a compulsory life
insurance for all armed security personnel, including the police, by government was approved.
The conference, however, voted against the proposal to merge the Road Safety Commission (FRSC) and the National Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC)
with the Nigeria Police.
The conference also rejected the call to suspend recruitment of constables for a given period of time within which police training institutions would be upgraded and brought to international standard.
The conference further turned down the proposal for the police to be brought under the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
The proposal for the establishment of a police complaint authority and call for women to be given 50 per cent participation in all the security forces were also turned
down. (NAN)

Ex Service Men Storm Confab Over Unpaid Pension And Allowances.

Ex service men at NJI

Scores of military pensioners on Tuesday besieged the National Judicial Institute, NJI, venue of the National Conference, to protest the government’s failure to pay their allowances.

The ex-service men were, however, barred from entering the venue of the National Conference by armed security operatives at the NJI gates. But the pensioners were not deterred as they sang solidarity songs and displayed placards with inscriptions like, “Our children are out of school. We can no longer cater for our family,”

“We are regarded as unproductive today,” “We are being deceived annually.”The mostly aged and physically challenged pensioners lamented that the Federal Government of Nigeria has failed to address the plight of those who sacrificed their hay days to serve the country.

One of the pensioners, who no longer had his sight, leaned on his walking stick and sometimes squatted on the ground as his colleagues sang by the NJI gates. The spokesperson for the pensioners and chairman, Ibadan Chapter of the Coalition of Aggrieved Military Veterans, Oaikhena Gabriel, said serving military personnel are enjoying high perks while those, who fought for the unity of the country, are left to suffer untold hardship.
“We fought in the Nigeria Civil War where we lost over 500, 000 soldiers. Those of us who survived are not enjoying anything. We are treated as destitute,” he said.“How can we continue like this? We fought the war on the side of Nigeria. Why are they treating us as slaves in our fatherland; the land we fought to keep united, the land we shade so much blood to secure?“That is why we are not happy and we are saying to the world that the government of President Goodluck Jonathan should pay us the 53.37 percent salary increase of 2009/2010 and the accruing three-year arrears. We are tired of waiting.“We cannot carry guns but if the government were taking good care of us, we would have mobilised our members all over the country to fight Boko Haram.“We came here to tell the world our plight. We have been used and dumped. We are tired of this.

Does it mean that the country we fought for will allow us to die in poverty? Let them pay us our entitlement.”Mr. Gabriel also called for the pension rate of military pensioners to be upgraded in line with the 2013 salary scale of military personnel and arrears paid from the date the new scale came into effect. He appealed to journalists to help them tell the world about the injustice that was being done to the men and women who put their lives on the line to preserve the unity of Nigeria.

A security operative attached to the Conference, Ken Chukwurah, met the protesting military pensioners at the NJI gates and promised to
communicate their grievances to the leadership of the Conference.Mr. Chukwurah expressed concern over the plight of the pensioners and appealed to them to be law-abiding while making case for their unpaid allowances.
