Southern Kaduna crisis is exaggerated and being used as a propaganda – Police commissioner .

Agyole Abeh, Kaduna state commissioner of police, says the crisis in southern Kaduna is largely exaggerated and used as a propaganda by those benefitting from it. .

Abeh said this in Kafanchan on Friday, while giving update on the security situation in the area. He alleged that some community leaders in the area were compounding the issues due to selfish interest, but that security agencies were on top of the situation.

“The issue of people being killed and houses burnt are all exaggerated. The crisis in southern Kaduna is about attacks and reprisal attacks, but the security is on top of the situation.

We are not taking sides in our operation; we are paid by the federal republic of Nigeria and we are committed to sustaining peace in the communities. We will always respond if there is breakdown of law and order.

We will do everything possible to ensure that peace is restored in this part of the state. We have enough security force on ground to curtail the situation," he said.

The commissioner said some arrests had been made since the crisis started and appealed to the communities on the need to accept peace as the only way to end the crisis. .

He said that the residents must embrace peace, forgive each other and build a new foundation for mutual coexistence.

Targets N1.1 trillion Revenue in 2017

The management of the Nigeria Customs Service, NSC, has set a revenue target of N1.1 trillion for 2017.

The Comptroller-General of the agency, Hameed Ali, made this known during a strategy meeting with Customs Area Controllers, CAC.

A statement released, Friday, by the agency’s spokesman, Joseph Attah, said the customs boss gave this directive while charging all the area controllers to ensure strict compliance with extant laws to enable it achieve its 2017 revenue target.

According to the statement, Mr. Ali said the Area Controllers must either “shape in or ship out” as there is no place for complacency in a Service that plays the crucial role of revenue collection and border security.

Harping on knowledge-based service delivery, Mr. Ali declared 2017 as a year of training and re-training, stressing that “ignorance will not be excuse for any officer as there will be refresher courses for officers in batches this year.”

The statement noted that at the meeting, Customs Area Controllers were charged to step up supervisory role on their subordinates; ensure tighter border security and block revenue leakages. They were equally urged to punish erring officers and promptly reward hardwork; and facilitate robust stakeholder engagement for mutual understanding.

Coming on the heels of recent seizures of 661 pump action rifles, the statement said that the meeting also underscored the need for the service to re-sharpen operational strategies for higher productivity.

Amber Rose Is Being Sued For Claiming She Bought A Strip Club

While accepting the Vanguard Award at the All Def Movie Awards on Wednesday night, former stripper Amber Rose told the audience that she had bought the popular Los Angeles strip club Ace of Diamonds. Amber, who was there with former fellow stripper Blac Chyna, didn’t elaborate on when she bought the strip club or why. She just said she bought it and that was that.

There’s just one little problem. Ace of Diamonds claims she didn’t buy it and TMZ says that they’re suing her for slander and they want $1 million. SKWS Enterprises, who own Ace of Diamonds, calls Amber’s claim “unequivocally false.” The lawsuit adds that Ace of Diamonds hasn’t been sold to anyone, much less to Amber Rose.

But it sounds like Amber is sure she’s about to be a strip club owner. TMZ says that back in December, Amber formed a corporation called Ace of Diamonds, Inc. and filed for a trademark on that name as well as a trademark for the abbreviation “AoD.” The documents for the trademark request describe the company as “entertainment services in the nature of live dance performances” and “gentlemen’s clubs featuring exotic dancing.” Basically, Amber Rose is trying to open a strip club called Ace of Diamonds. Her trademark request hasn’t been approved yet, but she tells TMZ that she plans on opening a new location in a month and a half.

I’m wondering why the owners of Ace of Diamonds never trademarked their business name? Someone is obviously going to have to change their name. Just a simple change so you don’t get hit with a cease-and-desist. Like Ass of Diamonds. Sounds kind of like the old name, and it tells people exactly what they’re getting.

Dickson tasks scholarship beneficiaries on hard work

Governor Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa has charged the 1000 beneficiaries of the Bayelsa Government secondary scholarship to be worthy ambassadors of the state and Ijaw nation.

Dickson gave the charge on Friday when he paid an unscheduled visit to the Teachers Training Academy, Bulou Orua, where the students are being temporarily accommodated.

He described the institution as a flagship secondary school.

Addressing the students, he assured that on resumption from their mid-term break, they would commence academic activities at the Ijaw National Academy, Kaiama, in Kolokuma/Opokuma Local Government Area of the state.

The governor said the school was expected to accommodate 1000 students and pledged that his administration would provide the necessary equipment to enable the school function optimally.

Dickson also enjoined the beneficiaries to shun acts capable of truncating their dreams, urging them to remain focused on their studies to justify the huge investment the government had made in the education sector.

The state Commissioner for Education, Mr Markson Fefegha, said the Dickson-led administration was nurturing a new crop of leaders in various fields of human endeavour.

He said the government had so far invested about N40 billion in the development of educational infrastructure and scholarship schemes.

Also speaking, the Principal of the Demonstration Secondary School, Bulou Orua, Mrs Violet Mama, applauded the state government for establishing and equipping the school with requisite facilities.

Mama said the school had recorded some successes, including the emergence of the Deputy Senior Prefect, Ekede Majesty, as the winner of the recent statewide essay competition.

A former Comptroller General of Customs, Abdullahi Dikko Inde, on Friday forfeited 17 exotic vehicles to the Federal Government barely 72 hours after the vehicles were uncovered from his warehouse in Kaduna.

There were strong indications last night that Inde might face trial any moment from now.

But his arraignment will begin when he returns from a medical trip abroad.

According to a statement issued by the Head of Media and Publicity of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mr. Wilson Uwujaren, on Friday night, the forfeiture order was given by Justice S.M Shuaibu of the Federal High Court in Kaduna.

The statement said: “Justice Shuaibu gave an interim order forfeiting the 17 vehicles found in the warehouse of former Comptroller General of Customs,  Abdullahi Dikko Inde, to the Federal Government.

“The order was sequel to an ex parte application by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission seeking among others, the forfeiture of the vehicles to the Nigerian Government, pending the conclusion of investigation and determination of the case.

“In his ruling, Justice Shuaibu held that the 17 vehicles which are now in the custody of the applicant ( EFCC) and as properly described and listed in the schedule marked exhibit EFCC 2 attached to the affidavit in support of the application are hereby forfeited to the Federal Government of Nigeria in the interim pending conclusion of the investigation.”

Human Right Activists and Lawyer, Femi Falana Condemns Those Celebrating James Ibori

Human right activists and lawyer, Femi Falana has condemned the way Nigerians celebrate criminals.

He said this during the symposium organized in memory of late activist, Pa Alfred Ilenre at the Femi Falana Chamber, Ikeja, Lagos, Southwest Nigeria,
The lawyer made reference to the way ex-Governor of Delta state, James Ibori was being celebrated by his people after he was convicted, served and released.
He said that it is highly out of place for a criminal who owned up to his criminal act in England and was jailed to return home and tell his people that he was not a criminal.
“Somebody shop-lifted in the UK in 1991 and was convicted. He was involved in credit fraud in 1992, he was convicted; in 1995, he stole building materials in Abuja, he was convicted, but they said they could not find the record. In 2012, he was convicted in the UK, he pleaded guilty, it is a different matter if he pleaded not guilty, he said ‘I am guilty, I am a thief,’ for allegedly stealing $250 million from the poor Delta State, he was jailed, the man now came out of prison, how can they be celebrating a criminal?”
He condemned the man who compared a convicted criminal in the Uk with Jesus Christ. He described it as an act of Blasphemy which has been rampant in the country.
Speaking about the recovered loots, he advised the government to ensure that all recovered loots are put in a dedicated account and a committee of patriots drawn from labour, women group, student group and youths should be constituted and let that committee manage this fund on job creation and fixing of our hospitals.

Nelson Mandela caused Xenophobia in South Africa – Seun Kuti

Seun Kuti, son of Afrobeat legend, Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, has reacted to violent acts against Nigerians and other nationals in South Africa.

The musician stated that the late South Africa President, Nelson Mandela, should be blamed for the xenophobic attacks.
Seun made his feelings known in a Facebook post on Friday.
He wrote: “Hey Black South Africans aren’t you ashamed of yourselves? Has your spirit of revolution completely destroyed by your rudderless ANC to the extent that you have become cowards who bully fellow Africans? Fellow Brothers?”
“Ok answer me this. If every Nigerian is deported out of South Africa there will be no more crime in South Africa? There will be no more injustice and inequality? Mandela once again thanks for your rainbow nation. Thanks for teaching your people to love whites but forgot to tell them to embrace blacks.”
Meanwhile, the Federal Government has said that talks are ongoing with South Africa on how to protect Nigerian citizens against xenophobic attacks in that country.
Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama, disclosed that the acting Nigerian High Commissioner to South Africa had met with the country’s foreign affairs top officials on the renewed attacks on Nigerians.
“We have communicated to South African government that steps should be taken to prevent attacks,” he said.

Shekau kills Boko Haram spokesman for planning to overthrow him

According to a report from AFP, Abubakar Shekau has admitted killing a spokesman of the Boko Haram sect for planning to oust him from his position as the sect's leader.

He said this in an audio recording obtained by AFP.
In the 50-minute tape of a meeting with the inner circle of his militant Islamist group, Shekau said he killed “Tasiu” — also known as Abu Zinnira — who appeared in several video messages.
“You should hear me: I killed Tasiu, hear me well,” he told the gathering in Hausa. Shekau states the date of the meeting — December 18 — and said it had been called to discuss “those elements grumbling over the killing of Tasiu”.

Abu Zinnira has on several occasions acted de facto spokesman and appeared in video recordings, including those about the more than 200 schoolgirls kidnapped from the town of Chibok in April 2014.
Abu Zinnira and “other elements” had tried to make him out to the rank and file as being “not on the right track”, Shekau added.
“Tell me, what is the punishment… for the people that plot against their leader?” he asked.

“By our code of allegiance we don’t hesitate to pass appropriate sanction on any one of us that commit an offence.”

N3.4bn NIMASA fraud: EFCC withdraws charges against Akpobolokemi, 3 accused

A Federal High Court in Lagos on Friday struck out the names of four accused charged with N3.4 billion fraud alongside a former Director-General (D-G) of NIMASA, Patrick Akpobolokemi.

Akpobolokemi, a former D-G Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), was charged with nine others on a 40-count charge bordering on fraud. Other accused charged with him are: Capt. Ezekiel Agaba; Ekene Nwakuche; Felix Bob-Nabena; Capt. Warredi Enisouh; Governor Juan; Ugo Frederick and Timi Alari.

Also charged with him are two companies: Al-kenzo Ltd., and Penniel Engineering Services Ltd. They were arraigned before Justice Saliu Saidu and had all pleaded not guilty to the charges and granted bail by the court.

However, following the transfer of Justice Saidu from Lagos to the Port Harcourt division of the court, the case was re-assigned to Justice Ayokunle Faji. On Friday, the prosecuting counsel, Mr Festus Afeyiodion, informed the court of an amended 22-count charge, in which the names of four accused had been withdrawn.

The four accused withdrawn from the charges are: Governor Juan, Ugo Frederick, Timi Alari, and Penniel Engineering Services Limited. He urged the court to strike out the names of the four accused, while a fresh plea by the remaining accused should be taken.

The counsel to Juan, Mr Ige Asemudara, expressed mixed feeling while reacting to the withdrawal.
Asemudara said that his client had been tormented, embarrassed, and emotionally tortured for the past two years on account of the charges.
He said that the damages done to Juan’s career and his family, were monumental, but gave all the glory to God.

Consequently, Justice Faji granted the prayers of the prosecution, and struck out the names of the four accused. Meanwhile, another defence counsel, Mr E.D. Onyeike, raised an objection to the appearance of the prosecutor (Afeyiodion) on the grounds that he could not prosecute without a fiat.

The court has, however, fixed March 17, for arguments on whether or not the prosecutor had a right to prosecute. In the charge, the accused were alleged to have committed the offences between December 2013 and July 2015.

They were alleged to have converted over N3.4 billion belonging to NIMASA to their personal uses.
The offences contravened Sections 15 (1), (3), and 18 (a) of the Money Laundering (prohibition) Amendment Act., 2012.

Sambo Dasuki’s trial stalled with fresh motion

The trial of Colonel Sambo Dasuki, former National Security Adviser, NSA, to former President Goodluck Jonathan, scheduled to commence on Friday, February 24, 2017 could not go on after all.
This following a fresh application by Dasuki’s counsel, Ahmed Raji, SAN.
Dasuki is facing a 22-count charge of illegal diversion of N19.4billion from the Office of National Security Adviser, ONSA account.
He was docked alongside former governor of Sokoto State, Attahiru Bafarawa and his son, Sagir.

The trial is before Justice Hussein Baba-Yusuf of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT High Court, Maitama Abuja.
Others arraigned with them are a former Director of Finance and Administration, ONSA, Shuaibu Salisu and a former Minister of State for Finance, Bashir Yuguda.

They were alleged to have conspired to steal the fund which was part of the $2.1billion meant for the purchase of arms to combat terrorism in the North-East using a company, Dahaltu Investment Limited, listed as the 4th defendant in the charge as conduit pipe for the alleged diversion.
At the sitting today, Raji told the court that he was not ready for the commencement of trial because he had an application for consolidation, pending before the court.

“It will amount to a waste of time if the issue of the application is not resolved because it has a connection with the sister case”, he said.
Responding, counsel to EFCC, Rotimi Jacobs, SAN, decried delay in commencing the trial, adding that after arraignment in 2015, the trial was yet to commence.

“Your lordship gave a sufficient time since the last sitting on January 24, 2017 in which the 2nd defendant (Dasuki) could have filed any motion, but he filed it only yesterday, and the sister case has commenced already.
“He just wanted to try his luck, this should not be a legal gambling”, Jacobs lamented.

In the sister case, Dasuki was arraigned on a 19-count bordering on diversion of funds.
All the cases are now pending before Justice Husseini Baba-Yusuf.
After listening to the submissions from parties, Justice Baba-Yusuf adjourned to March 2, 2017 for hearing on the motion.
