APC vows to restore Nigeria’s economy

All Progressives Congress (APC) has reinstated its commitment, to restoring Nigeria’s economy on the path of growth.

The ruling party gave this assurance on Saturday, in a goodwill message to Christians as they celebrate Easter.

APC spokesman, Bolaji Abdullahi, in a statement, also urged citizens to continue to support President Muhammadu Buhari.

“The All Progressives Congress (APC) extends its best wishes to Christians in the country and indeed all Nigerians on the joyous occasion of Easter which celebrates the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,” it said.

“Easter signifies a time for renewal and rebirth. We hope that there will be a rebirth of the belief that each of us is our brother’s keeper, irrespective of our religious, tribal, political and sundry affiliations.

“Indeed, the Easter festivities remind us to be selfless as Jesus Christ was during his time on earth. As we gather with family and friends, let us also spare a thought, prayers and show love to the needy in our respective communities.

“As the country gradually slides out of economic recession, the APC assures Nigerians of government’s determination to restore the economy on the path of growth.

“The APC calls on Nigerians to continue to support the President Muhammadu Buhari APC-led administration as it works to deliver on the promises made to Nigerians,” it added.

Fire guts over 12 houses in Bayelsa

Two separate  fires in Yenagoa, Bayelsa state capital, that happened between Friday and Saturday,  have  destroyed properties worth millions of Naira.

The first incident occurred on Friday night at  Amarata, near where NAN and Vanguard newspapers have offices.

The second occurred early today in Ovom, a suburb  of the state capital .

The houses gutted at Aritalin, Ovom were all wooden structures and the occupants were mainly commercial sex workers.

Miss Joy Onuh, a resident in the area, explained that the fire started from a locked room.

“We do not know  how the fire started. And we never knew it would spread because we thought that it was just an ordinary smoke. Then,  it became serious.

“We still appreciate the  efforts of the state fire fighters in putting out the fire, though they arrived late,” she said.

Jully Bobby, one of the affected residents, sobbed as she recounted her losses.

She said all her belongings including money, clothing and mobile phone were lost in the fire.

At Imgbi Road, Amarata, where the second fire happened,  a car and shops were destroyed.

The fire was believed to have been sparked by adulterated fuel and kerosene loaded in the car.

“It would have been a disaster if not for the help of the fire service. The car was fully loaded with fuel; I commend the efforts of the state fire fighters,” a female resident said.

Mr Prince Ogun, Station Driver, Bayelsa Fire Service Command, urged the people to promptly call the fire service  when they have an emergency.

“The one at Imgbi Road was in the night, Friday, about 8pm; we went there with our fire fighting personnel and we were able to put out the fire.

“In fact, the two incidents were shocking, many houses were burnt but no life lost.

“I am advising members of the public against the use of candle and to desist from illegal bunkering to avoid fire incidents,” Ogun said. (NAN)

Ikoyi $43 Million: Magu, Presidency In Dilemma Over The Discovered Cash

Magu, Presidency in dilemma

The Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibrahim Magu, might have put himself and the Presidency in a tight corner over the latest foreign cash seizure, which is said to be over N13 billion when converted.

This is coming on the heels of confusion over the ownership of the funds. While there had been brickbats over the temporarily forfeited sum, a Presidency source told Saturday Telegraph that some people within the corridors of powers are not happy with Magu for not letting The Presidency know about the latest operation before rushing to the media.

The EFCC had on Wednesday circulated photos and video footage of the cash hoard, which was recovered at Osborne Towers at 16, Osborne Road, in Ikoyi area of Lagos on Wednesday.

The hidden money, said to be in different currencies; $43,449,947; £27,800 and N23, 218,000 were hidden in safe cabinets inside one of the apartments in the building.

The source, who happened to be a high-ranking officer in one of the armed forces, explained that most of those who had spoken about the issue were not happy with Magu because he had put the Presidency in a difficult situation.

“It was silly of the EFCC to have rushed to the media. Now, it has put itself in trouble because the money belongs to those we call BGP (Big Government People) in our own phraseology.”

“How do you now expect the issue to be handled? And you know with the anti-corruption posture of the government, President Muhammadu Buhari and his people will wash their hands off.

And this will cause bad blood. Magu has really goofed this time”, he said. However, in the midst of claims and counter claims about the ownership of the building as well as the fund found in it, a former Minister of Aviation, Chief Femi Fani- Kayode, had alleged that the money belonged to Amaechi, the incumbent minister of transportation.

Though the Nigeria Intelligence Agency (NIA) had reportedly claimed ownership of the money, Fani-Kayode disagreed on his tweeter handle, saying that the “NIA does not keep cash in minister’s flats”.

The former minister, who twitted to put the record straight after conflicting reports on the issue wrote: “The $43 million is Rotimi Amaechi’s. He owns the flat it was found in too.

NIA story is fake news.” But a media aide to the minister, Mr. David Iyofor, who replied Fani-Kayode on the same channel, wrote that the ex-minister is spreading “FAKE NEWS”. Iyofor in a replied tweet said: “Show us the title documents with Amaechi’s name as the owner or shut up.

Someone will just sniff something then come on Twitter to rant incomprehensible nonsense.

Some fellows really need help, serious help. Lying outright to defame someone is not politics”, he said. However, sources within the EFCC also told the Saturday Telegraph that the NIA had denied knowledge of the report linking it with the money.

The EFCC source hinted that some NIA officials were at the anti-graft agency’s office in Lagos on Thursday to deny the report. In the same line of refutation, a former chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Adamu Mu’azu, who declared to have originally owned the high-rise home also denied any link with the cash, claiming to have sold the building to repay a bank loan.

The former Bauchi State governor in a statement issued on Friday explained that he built the property with a credit facility acquired from a bank, but had since sold it to repay the loan.
“I acquired the land and jointly develop it using a bank loan I obtained about nine years ago.

However, all the flats had been sold to prospective buyers in order to pay back the loan. I do not own or occupy any of the apartments.

“I sold all the apartments through established estate agents as such I have no knowledge or interest in who purchases or rents any of the flats. I strongly believe that the efforts being made will surely unveil the real owner of such flat and the money recovered,” Mu’azu stated.

On the alleged ownership of the money by the NIA, the source said that the stunt being put up by the intelligence agency is a face-saving effort aimed at shielding the real owner of the money.

He further noted that the money is a pool of fresh notes recently brought into the country from the United States by a top government official who is very close to the corridors of power. “Such money is not brought in by ordinary people.

It takes only a very strong government personality with powerful backing to bring in such tranches of money. “We use private jets and special government flights to freight such huge currencies, especially when it is US notes.

The US government does not just allow such big amount to move anyhow. There are procedures.

“Did you notice the large size and the blank wrappers? That shows it is fresh from the mint.

It can only be brought in with special status as it is done with government money. “The NIA is just trying to defend the indefensible. If the money belongs to them, they should have kept it with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) or place it in an escrow account, as it is the normal practice with security agents”, he said. Asked whether the Presidency would sanction the leadership of the EFCC, he noted that the BGP are in a dilemma as to the next line of action.

“Though they are not happy with Magu’s rush to the press, there is nothing they can do to him now, because he is seen in public as fighting Mr. President’s war against the Senate. “If they fire him, the Senate will win and if they leave him, the BGP will not be happy with Buhari.

It is a like matter between the devil and the deep blue sea, because some of the BGP actually believe that Magu knew the owner but deliberately wanted to rubbish them.

“These are some of the people that does not want him confirmed as the EFCC chairman and it is not unlikely that he is fighting back to expose them. Some of them believe that he knew and he purposely put the matter in public domain”, the source noted.

When contacted, the phone of Femi Adesina Senior Special Adviser (Media) to the President rang out. But an online portal, Premium Times, quoted him as saying that the issue is a security matter and not a presidency issue, so he couldnt comment.

Buhari’s govt rubbishing its anti-corruption war – Fayose speaks on $43m saga

Governor of Ekiti State, Mr Ayodele Fayose, has faulted claims by the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) that the N13 billion cash discovered at Osborne Towers, Lagos, belongs to it, stating that the development has only succeeded in rubbishing the Federal Government’s anti-graft war.

He said: “Yesterday, it was made public that the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) claimed ownership of the $43,449,947, £27,800 and N23, 218,000 seized on Wednesday by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) from Osborne Towers, a luxury residential complex in Ikoyi, Lagos.

“This, to my mind is one cover-up too many and this federal government seeming plot to protect the original owner of both the money and the apartment where it was found has further shown that the anti-corruption fight is political, selective and therefore a ruse.

“Nigerians should recall that I have consistently maintained that the APC-led federal government was not fighting any corruption. Rather, the government is using the anti-corruption fight as a major political tool to cripple opposition and turn the country to a one party state.

“Therefore, for once, the federal government should operate with the mind-set that Nigerians are no fools. They are capable of asking questions and they are already doing that.

“Some of the questions being asked are: who is the owner of the apartment in which the money was found? does the apartment also belong to the NIA? if the apartment belong to the NIA, when was it bought and from whom,? if the apartment does not belong to the NIA, from whom and when was it rented?

“How could a whistle-blower be aware of movement of money into one out of many apartments in a building without knowing the owner of the apartment? if truly the NIA was carrying out a “covert operation” as claimed, was President Muhammadu Buhari not briefed of the so-called “covert operation” when he took over power?

“Was the National Security Adviser (NSA), whose office controls all intelligence agencies, including the EFCC and DSS not aware of the “covert operation”? was there any security presence at the vicinity of the apartment to suggest that it was being used as warehouse for over N13 billion cash belonging to the NIA?

“Does NIA need an unprotected apartment to keep such huge sum of money purportedly meant for “covert operation”? how much was released for the so-called “covert operation”? how much has been spent and to who was account rendered up to date?

“As for me, the script being acted on this discovered cash is a cover-up that will mar the EFCC and the federal government. It is a movie well scripted for some alawada (comedians) but acted so badly.

“It is case of a dog that has been eating other people’s children to the admiration of its owner suddenly attacking the beloved son of the owner’s friend and they are now trying to cover-up the dog owner.

“It is a major test of the integrity of the APC federal government’s so-called anti-corruption fight, and the earlier the proponents of the cover-up plot come back to their normal senses and tell Nigerians who owns the apartment in which the money was found, the better for them.

“In the last few weeks, we have been served with dramas of recovery of funds by the EFCC.

“N49 million in cash was said to have been found in Kaduna Airport and was promptly “arrested” by EFCC officials. But up till now, Nigerians have not been told the identities of those who brought the five sacks in which the cash was found into the airport despite the presence of CCTV cameras at the airport.

“EFCC also fed Nigerians with tales of recovery of N448,850,000 (Four hundred and forty eight million, eight hundred and fifty thousand naira) cash from a shop at LEGICO Shopping Plaza, Ahmadu Bello Way, Victoria Island, Lagos. We were told that the shop had not been opened for two years and one wonders how the cash got into the shop.

“Up till today, EFCC is yet to tell Nigerians the identity of the owner of the shop and Nigerians are asking whether or not the Legico Shopping Plaza, Ahmadu Bello Way, Victoria Island, Lagos, is not owned by anyone and the owner of the Plaza won’t be able to identify his or her tenant.

“As for this latest drama, which has boomeranged, even though we know that the APC-led federal government has the capacity to sweep it under the carpet like many others before it, Nigerians will have it on record that they are being ruled by a government of “the more you look, the less you see.”

Amaechi slams Wike, says he knows nothing about seized N13bn

Wike and Amaechi

Minister of Transportation and immediate past governor of Rivers State Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi has dismissed the false claims by his successor Nyesom Wike that the $43,449,947, £27,800 and N23,218, 000 recovered by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, from an Ikoyi apartment in Lagos belongs to him.

Wike, in a suspicious, hurriedly arranged press conference on Friday night, told journalists that ‘the money in question belongs to the former Rivers State Governor, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi.’ Wike also insinuated that the ‘houses’ in Ikoyi belong to Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi.

Amaechi in a statement titled ‘$43MILLION TALE: AMAECHI SLAMS WIKE’ released by his Media Office on Saturday, Amaechi described the claims as malicious, frivolous and another failed attempt by Wike to divert attention from the mess he has created in Rivers State.

According to the statement:
“Rivers State is perpetually in crisis, the state in a mess as Wike has made a total mess of governance in the State. That child who sits there as governor is confused, he doesn’t know what to do. Wike’s only solution is to attack Amaechi.”

“Since he became governor, Wike sleeps and wakes up everyday, with a sole, one-point agenda to attack and denigrate Rotimi Amaechi, no matter how ridiculous and silly he sounds. Everyday in Rivers State, there is one frivolous, false story of what Amaechi did or didn’t do. Same pattern, the same blatant lies with no proof, same old concocted stories of corruption allegations against Amaechi told with different flavours

At this rate, if Wike is unable to perform his spousal duties, he will blame it on Amaechi. Yes, that’s how despicably low he can go in his consuming fixation to throw mud at Amaechi.”

“This latest outburst by Wike is typical of him. We are aware that Wike first tried to float the fake news of Amaechi’s ownership of the recovered $43million and the Ikoyi house in the social media using his minions and lackeys, spending huge sums of Rivers money on the failed project. His minions and lackeys were calling journalists, bloggers and media organizations to run the fake story with promises of almost irresistible mouth-watering compensation for using the fake story. When that failed and the story didn’t gain traction that was when Wike decided to hurriedly hold the press conference Friday night, to rant and spew his outright lies, yet again without providing any proof of Amaechi’s ownership of both the property and the money.”

“For clarity and emphasis, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi is not the owner of the $43million and the Ikoyi apartment in which the money was recovered from. Amaechi has no business, link or connection to the money or property. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi does not know who owns the money or Ikoyi apartment.”
“Wike’s malicious allegation of corruption against Amaechi in the sale of the Gas Turbines is not new.

This false claim has been punctured repeatedly with facts and evidence of the transfer payments for the power plants into Rivers State government accounts by Sahara Energy. The records of how the funds were spent and what it was spent on are in the records of the State government. Amaechi has absolutely no business or any interest whatsoever in Sahara Energy. The company was already a thriving business concern before Amaechi’s emergence as governor of Rivers State in 2007.

“We urge all right-thinking members of the public to completely disregard all the false, politically motivated no-proof claims by Nyesom Wike and his minions as it concerns Amaechi and the $43million and Ikoyi property.

“Yet again, we challenge Wike to charge Amaechi to court if he has any shred of evidence that the money belongs to Rivers State and was kept in the Ikoyi apartment by Amaechi. But like his numerous frivolous accusations in the past, we know he won’t go to court. He has nothing to substantiate his blatant lies. This Wike’s recent tale like his previous ones is a big sham, a disgraceful political drama, and a campaign of calumny to defame and destroy the sterling reputation of Rotimi Amaechi. This is now Wike’s sole life ambition.”

“Finally, we want Nigerians to note that Wike’s reckless, irresponsible and fictitious tirade against the President Buhari administration at his media briefing of Friday is a declaration of war against the Federal Government. This has been his regular past time in recent times, making false allegations against the Federal government and threatening the President Buhari administration with fire and brimstone”, the statement concluded

Tomato seller claims ownership of N250million discovered by EFCC at Balogun Market.

AS controversies rock the nation over the discovery of a staggering N15 billion in an Ikoyi, Lagos apartment, a man has reportedly shown up at the Lagos office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) claiming ownership of the N250 million found at the Balogun Market, Lagos, on Monday.

An EFCC source who did not want to be named informed Saturday Tribune that “a man came on Wednesday claiming the money belonged to him and that it was the proceeds of his trade in tomatoes.”

“We asked him what business fetched him the money, the man said he deals in bringing tomatoes from the North to sell in Lagos. We asked him why he did not put the money in bank, he said he does not use banks. Meanwhile the money is in bales with bank wrappers bearing stamps dated as recent as 6th April, 2017.

“The man was arrested, his statement taken but has been given an administrative bail as investigations continue,” the EFCC source told Saturday Tribune while adding that the money had been deposited with the Central Bank.

As of press time, EFCC spokesperson in Lagos, Sammin Amadin, was yet to respond to an inquiry on the matter.

N15 billion: EFCC, NIA face off

Meanwhile, the anti-graft agency is intensifying investigations into the source and ownership of the $43.5m, £27,000 and N23m (about N15 billion) found in Osborne Towers in Lagos on Wednesday. It was learnt that searchlights are being beamed on the ownership of the company managing the building.

An EFCC source, who confirmed this, added that a search of the ownership of the company “may show some interesting links with Flat 7b where the money was found.” He did not elaborate on this.

The source, however, confirmed that someone who claimed to be “a diplomat” and an operative of a sister security agency, the NIA surfaced at the apartment while the operation was on on Wednesday and was arrested.

“The man was arrested and made to sit in the sitting room of the flat till the operation was concluded. He protested that he was a diplomat working with the NIA but since we had no order to defer to him, we held and interrogated him. I cannot tell what the position is now about him,” the source added.

The whole money, he disclosed, was moved to the CBN on Thursday.

Director General of the NIA, Mr Ayodele Oke, did not pick calls put through to his mobile telephone line by Saturday Tribune on Friday evening.

An online newspaper, Premium Times, reported, however, on Friday that the NIA  boss confirmed to it that the money belonged to his agency but declined further comments on what it was meant for.

Banks jittery as large deposits dry up

A senior banker told Saturday Tribune that deep suspicion is causing deep division between the senior and lower cadres in the sector, regarding those suspected to be blowing the whistle on suspicious accounts, withdrawals and movements of cash, which the anti-graft agencies are reportedly after.

The agencies, particularly the EFCC, have been raking in suspicious cash hauls all over the country with billions in major currencies allegedly recovered.

The recovery attention has suddenly shifted to Lagos with different huge cash amounts allegedly abandoned in different areas of the state being displayed by the EFCC as recoveries yet to be claimed by any owners.

The latest recovery totalling about N15 billion on Wednesday at an apartment in Ikoyi, has introduced a new dimension into the recovery efforts, with National Intelligence agency reportedly claiming it as operational fund.

The public display of the cash, including the bale-load of newly-minted dollars still bearing the logo of the Bureau of Engraving and Printing (BEP), the agency statutorily empowered to print US currency notes, is reportedly generating ripples in government circle, as the other security agency continued to kick against EFCC’s perceived indiscretion.

While the security agencies battle each other out over the latest discovery, banks are also said to be quietly sorting out their future without being seen to be impeding the anti-corruption project, particularly in the area of whiste-blowing.

The current raid on the accounts of “highly-valued” customers is said to be giving banks nightmare about their future with the most-treasured “fat-accounts” said not to be coming in again.

Prized depositors and customers are also said to be developing cold feet in doing “huge business with us again. I’m sure you know huge businesses usually come with small small problems”.

While senior officials of banks are always the ones being seen in the public to be cooperating with the investigating anti-graft agencies, it was learnt that the real face of whistle-blowing in the sector, are the junior staff, who have access to “our major banking operations involving major clients”.

Saturday Tribune was told that while strong evidence had connected the junior staff as “the moles”, there is a belief that those involved are doing it mainly for the pecuniary.

“It is all about the commission attached to blowing the whistle on suspicious accounts. They (junior staff) are not doing it because they are anti-corruption agents. It is all about making quick cash and possibly move on, before they are caught. But I can tell you they are mortgaging their future, because all these things (anti-corruption war) would end one day and once they are known as moles, who will engage them going forward. There is nothing that would be hidden forever” a top source said.

There is also the possibility of many junior staffers coming under the sack hammer soon.

Saturday Tribune was told that those suspected are being monitored and may be moved against at the appropriate time.

The cash-trail exercise which is said to have reduced huge deposits drastically, according to a banker-analyst, would soon make the junior staff redundant, because majority of them, is hired to facilitate the coming-in, of such huge deposit.

“Many of them (junior staff) will have to be relieved of their duties. One, objectively speaking, it would be unkind to expect them to start bringing the usual billions in at a time like this. This is an unusual banking season in Nigeria when you have to explain what you have even when no one has accused you of stealing or being in possession of any missing money. Two, the junior staff are mainly the information-source, drying up huge deposits or transactions. So, in the long run, they will have to pay for the emergency millions they make speaking about their customers to government. Anyway, we have heard many of them (junior staff) say that there would be no problem getting their retirement benefit from government early in their lives, through the whistle-blowing commission” the source explained.

A junior staff simply told Saturday Tribune she was already searching for a new job, saying “everything is so much stress”, without divulging much information about what is happening inside her bank.

Saturday Tribune learnt that deliberate efforts are also going on in banks to ensure that “major operations” are shielded from the prying eyes of “those who think they have no future in the system among the staff”.

Months back, Saturday Tribune learnt that about 238 accounts with “curious” lodgements and transactions were being investigated by security agencies.

Though many of the accounts, with huge balance, were said to be under corporate shield, they were suspected to be owned by individuals using their friends in corporate world to hide what is thought to be slush funds.

One of such accounts was under the trade name of a major player in a thriving sector, with a balance in the region of units of billions.

A particular investigative agency moved in for the account, after realising that the balance was not touched for any operational expenditure for years, despite the company obviously needing cash after running foul of a regulatory agency directive.

An order of the court was procured to confiscate the balance.

A big politician friend of the company’s director is suspected to be the owner.

The “curious” accounts are suspected to be housing illegally-made money which could not be kept in a personal account, without raising suspicion, considering that a formal report must be made by banks to anti-corruption agencies when huge deposits come in.

As more Nigerians embrace the whistle-blowing policy, domestic staff and disgruntled employees are said to be leading information providers to anti-corruption agencies.

A more organised whistle-blowing network is also reportedly being put in place, particularly by those with security background, collaborating with unemployed youth who in turn tap into the domestic staff and employee of their targets to monitor movements and file reports.

Private security agencies are also said to be recruiting unemployed youth, with a focus to deploy them as whistle-blowers.

The EFCC spokesperson, Wilson Uwujaren, wasn’t also available for comments on the issue of another security agency laying claim to the N15 billion and other issues concerning the whistle-blowing policy.

He neither picked his call nor replied to an SMS sent to his mobile line.

Dino Melaye escapes assassination as gunmen invade his home

Controversial Nigerian Senator representing Kogi west senatorial district, Dino Melaye, today, escaped assassination attempt on his life as unknown gunmen attacked his residence in Ayetoro-Gbede, Ijumu local government area of the state.

The assailants were said to have invaded the residence at about 12 am, shooting sporadically into the building.

After the rain of bullet that lasted over one hour, two of the vehicles parked within the premises were damaged, while part of the building was also destroyed.

Narrating his ordeal to newsmen, the senator said the assailants came in
some minutes after 12 midnight and started shooting indiscriminately into his building.

He said the hoodlums shot at intervals with little break for more than one hour where two vehicles, a security van and caravan bus were destroyed.

The lawmaker however accused chairman of the local government, Taofiq Isa, of masterminding the attack because of his criticism of the state government.

“I got a rousy welcome from Kabba to my home town yesterday (Friday) and I know it angered the power that be in the state which mobilised for this assassination attempt on my life.

“At about midnight we started hearing gunshot. They fired more than 200 rounds of bullet into the house. This attempt to kill me will not stop me from speaking the truth.
“If I speak the truth I will die, if I lie I will die. Me, I’ve decided to speak the truth and die. I’m not afraid of death. I only respect men I don’t fear them.

“This attempt is being championed by the chairman of my local government. He had said it many times that he will do everything to stop me from coming home. Beside, those assailants when leaving were chanting ‘We will know if it’s Taofiq that owns the land or you.

“I am championing an administrative course. I will continue to speak and be voice to the voiceless. I’m not deterred, I remain resolute to make Kogi better. Noting will stop me from coming home.”

Melaye also said accused the Police division of Aiyetoro Gbede that allegedly failed to come to his house until three hours after the assailants had left despite...

Melaye also said accused the Police division of Aiyetoro Gbede that allegedly failed to come to his house until three hours after the assailants had left despite being a stone thrown from his house.

“The DPO did not come to my house until three hours later. Even the area command in Kabba was not notified until I called the CP. I suspect a satanic collabo between Taofiq and the police in Aiyetoro because the duo had a meeting two days ago.

“Only God will protect us in this country but definitely not the police”.

However, the local government chairman, who is also the Association of Local Government of Nigeria (ALGON), said he had no hand in the alleged attack on the senator.

He said he had never been a violent person, saying he had been busy attending to his sick wife.

Isa, who challenged Melaye to prove his allegation against him said;

“I’ve never been a violent man. My running battle with Dino if any is because I have asked him to stop vilifying the state governor, Yahaya Bello.

“Let him (Dino) prove it. I lost my uncle a week ago, I’m still attending to my sick wife and busy supervising the APC re- registration programs. I’m a democrat and law abiding. I challenge Dino to prove his case.”

Meanwhile, the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), William Aya, said the command had already commenced investigation into the issue.

7 Struggles Every Man Faces When Dating A Hot Woman

Photo: Poka Arts

Men are always drawn to hot women.

However, having a pretty girlfriend can be more trouble than it is worth, especially because of the attention that she attracts. Sometimes the cons seem to outweigh the pros when dating  gorgeous women, but it’s normal for us men to risk it all either way.

Here are a few struggles to expect when dating a gorgeous babe.

1. You are constantly jealous.

You are always be worried that other guys are trying to sleep with her. Given the way you worked tirelessly to get her too, can you even blame them? It doesn’t matter how much trust you have between you. There’s something irksome about knowing that basically everywhere she goes, guys will be coming up with excuses to talk to her.

2. People are always be looking at her.

When you date a hot woman, people keep looking at her like she’s a celebrity or precious gem. If you are a secure man then you will love that other people are eyeing your girlfriend, you are proud to show her off and that she is yours. But sometimes the looks can get disturbing and even overbearing. Sometimes people will even forget you are there. others will wonder what she’s even doing with a guy like you.

Image: Giphy

3. You get into random fights and confrontations.

Because your girlfriend is so good looking she attracts the attention of a whole bunch of random guys who could quite frankly care less that she is in a committed, solid, loving relationship. You may have to use excessive force so those random guys can get it through their thick skulls that your girlfriend is simply not up for grabs. Men love a challenge, so as many times as you say “no” or “she is taken”, there will always be that one guy who is up for that challenge. Get ready to throw some effective right hooks; if she is truly worth it.

4. You are always trying to please her.

A man is easily manipulated when dating a hot woman. Uneven power dynamics plague almost every relationship at some point, but especially relationships like these. It’s one thing to try to please her, but do you ever say no? At first being the indulgent boyfriend will feel like the right thing to do, but ultimately it leads to resentment.

5. She knows she is hot and sometimes that makes her proud.

Here’s where the “I know my value” kind of thinking comes into play in relationships. The world does a great job of constantly reminding hot women how hot they are. Given the fact that she knows she’s in demand, It will be easier for her to move on when she is ready and leave you in the dust whereas, you may be more inclined to beg for her to come back or put up with her crap simply because she is beautiful. The minute that you try to bruise her ego you can guarantee that she will shut you down and just as quickly tell you how many other guys she could get that are better than you.

6. You are forced to deal with a protective brother.

Even brothers know that their sisters are hot. When you are dating a hot woman, the brother always thinks you are up to no good. He always feels you want to take advantage of her or something. You could be a great guy with great intentions but unfortunately for you, there have been some real losers in the past that she has gone home and cried about, and her siblings have had to come to the rescue. They are thus paranoid,  Watch your back; if you fail to break the ice with them in the beginning, you may never get another chance to do it.

7. You might be staying with her for the wrong reasons.

You may become blinded by her looks that you overlook any serious personality flaws that she may have. You will find yourself justifying the fact that she is an egomaniac or unfaithful. You might feel lucky to have her hence you just tolerate her misdemeanors.

Dalung: I want to be remembered as the beret-wearing minister

Dalung

Certainly many sports followers and analysts must have been confused in their attempt to understand current Minister for Youth and Sports, Barr. Solomon Dalung.

Since his assumption of office in 215, the Plateau State-born politician, has left nobody in doubt that he is a unique personality, who for both the right and wrong reasons, always wants to be seen to be different.

For instance, as the Minister for Youth, one should have expected him to dress in a manner that will portray him as a role model worthy of emulation by the leaders of tomorrow.

But always appearing like a guerilla fighter in his special khaki and red beret in the views of most Nigerians is not so deserving of a man occupying such an important position, which can even make or mar the lives of many young minds.

Interestingly however, Dalung seems to be aware of the controversy his special attire causes because from time to time he usually makes reference to it.

For instance, during the Stakeholders Forum for the Guidelines for the conduct of elections into the boards of the National Sports Federations (NSF) held last Thursday, the Minister said he would love to be remembered as the beret-wearing minister.

“”If I remain a minister, even if I do not achieve anything, I want to be remembered as the man who used to wear his red beret, even if as they say, I know nothing in sports, I want to be remembered as the man who  insisted that the norms of democracy were respected in the conduct of the elections.”

In fact there are a lot of instances of the many occasions when the Minister crossed the line while trying to prove to his audience that he is truly in charge.

But the ever boisterous Dalung, has also won for himself some fans, when at the same forum he technically slammed the door against some perennial federation presidents when he said that anybody who has served two terms or more will not contest the forthcoming election.

With this, the likes of Habu Gumel of Volleyball, Sani Ndanusa of Tennis, Solomon Ogba of Athletics as well as Tijani Umar of Basketball federations have all be sent packing.

NIA’s ownership of seized N13bn hogwash, bunkum and balderdash – Ozekhome

Ozekhome

Constitutional lawyer and human rights activist, Chief Mike Ozekhome, SAN has alleged that the billions of Dollars, Pounds and Naira, recovered by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, from an Ikoyi apartment in Lagos was all an “arrangee discoveries ” meant to divert attention from the hunger, squalor, fear, disease, non-performance and cluelessness of APC government.

Ozekhome made this known in a statement Friday saying that “the farcical story that National Intelligence Agency (NIA) , Nigeria’s external secret Police has claimed ownership of the sum of $43.4m, £27, 800 and N23.2m is total hogwash, bunkum and balderdash.

“Let this government and its minions credit Nigerians with some modicum of sense and capacity to reason, even with their valiant attempts to cow, browbeat and intimidate all opposition elements and critical voices in their so called corruption war.

“At least, not even the terror halo cast on our individual and collective psyche has dulled our analytical minds.

“The entire theatricality and Baba Sala’s Alawada Kerikeri buffoonery ought to be reserved for some circus show at the National theatre or Trafalgar Square, where comedians and humour merchants entertain.

“The emergent facts do not show NIA’s ownership of the money, but grand cover-up of a serving minister’s ownership of the money.

“It is so, so sad that all these national diversions are simply geared towards highlighting and emphasizing the omnipotence and indispensability of just one man, Ibrahim Magu, as Executive Chairman of the EFCC.

“We should build strong institutions, not strong individuals.

“Before Ibrahim Magu, there was a Nuhu Ribadu; there was a Mrs Waziri: and there was an Ibrahim Lamorde.

“After Magu, there would still be another EFCC Executive Chairman.

“All these so-called humongous recoveries of orphaned monies are simply geared towards showcasing ineffable efficiency, effectiveness and matchless proficiency.

“It simply doesn’t work that way. In the USA, wherefrom we borrowed our presidentialism, the equivalent agency works silently behind the scene, only seen, but never heard, except where it becomes absolutely necessary.

“But, here in Nigeria, the EFCC engages in grotesque media trial, hifalutin and shocking disclosures of orphaned monies whose destinations after the media hype are never known.

“Where are all the alleged recoveries of are vast sums, attached properties, etc, made by the EFCC, kept and how much are they?

“When asked this question by the Senate during screening, Magu told a shocked and bewildered Nation he did not know!

“We seem now fixated to name, shame and humiliate Nigerians with the paint brush of shame, odium, obloquy and denigration.

“How can about N15 billion be found in highbrow Osborne Road, Ikoyi, by no means a back squalid street?

“How can a foreign arm of the Nigerian secret Police, the equivalent of CIA, keep such hard currency in cash at an unguarded apartment, tucked away with many other apartments in a block of flats, not in a separate heavily fortified and fiercely guarded stand -alone building that has “keep off” carefully imprinted on it?

“What was it meant for and who approved it and in which budget?

“Who was the whistle blower that could identify that such money was “hidden” in the bedroom in flat 7A, leaving out flat 7B, yet not knowing who kept the money there or its ownership?

“Why was EFCC not pictured or videod going into the apartment, before we suddenly saw an arranged “counting” of money?

“Is there no CCTV in such a highbrow wealthy society members abode?

“Can we see the footages please? Only last week, N49m orphaned sum was “arrested” at Kaduna Airport!

“Then, suddenly another sum of orphaned N448m was “discovered” in an ownerless shop in Victoria Island.

“Who owned the plaza? Who sold there? Are there no CCTV there? Can we see them please?

“The truth is that all these simulated “arrangee” “discoveries “can only temporarily divert attention from the hunger, squalor, fear, disease, not performance and cluelessness of this government.

“But, unfortunately, even lies have their expiry date. Truth is inexorable, immutable and eternal.

“The chicken will finally come home to roost”. he said

Man pays N42m tithe to Benue church

A man whose identity has been shielded by a local church in Makurdi, has shocked church members with a tithe offering of N42 million.

Investigations by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Makurdi revealed that the money was paid into the UBA account of the NKST Church High Level Makurdi.

Although the pastor of the church, Dr. Frederick Ikyaan, initially denied knowledge of the offering, a copy of the church’s quarterly financial report, covering the months of January – March, confirmed the payment of N42million tithe to the church.

The report showed that the lodgement was the highest single offering from an individual for the quarter.

The money was paid into the church’s account in January.

The breakdown of the church’s financial report showed an income of N56.2 million and an expenditure of N33.7 million within the same time frame.

The church’s records also showed that out of the income, N44.6 million was generated from tithe offerings while a single person accounted for N42 million.

Reacting to the financial report, the pastor said his initial denial was based on the allegations that the donor was an appointee of the Benue government.

” I still stand by my words that the person that gave us that money is not an appointee of the state government. In fact, he does not even stay in Benue but is an indigene of the state.”

He said there was nothing wrong with the offering and insisted that the church had nothing to hide.

Meanwhile, the tithe offering has stirred controversy in a state struggling to pay the salaries of workers.

Public discussion centred on the legitimacy of the donors income, as a man who pays N42m to a church as tithe must have made an income of N420 million in the month that he paid.

The NKST Church is an abbreviation for ‘Non go Kristu U Sudan hen Tiv’, meaning the Church of Christ Amongst the Tiv.

Ogbia Brotherhood mourns Obua, Jonathan’s former CSO

Gordon-ObuaObua, who hailed from Ogbia Local Government Area, died of heart attack on Thursday at the National Hospital, Abuja.

Ogbia Brotherhood, a socio-cultural group of Ogbia people of Bayelsa across the world, has expressed dismay over the death of Mr Gordon Obua, the former Chief Security Officer (CSO) to former President Goodluck Jonathan.

Mr Fred Obua, a family member to the late CSO, who confirmed the death in a telephone interview with NAN on Friday, however declined further comments.

He said: “I am on my way to Abuja as we speak in connection with Gordon’s demise, may be we can talk later,” Obua said.

Chief Benson Agadaga, President of Ogbia Brotherhood, also told NAN that the news of Obua’s death came to Ogbia kingdom as a shock and had thrown the entire community into mourning.

Agadaga said he was saddened by the development, given the fact that the deceased was much younger than he.

“Even though I cannot say exactly how old he was, he was several years younger than me, and in our culture, the death of a younger person is usually very painful.

“The CSO was like three years behind me and ex-President Jonathan in Secondary School, so his death to us is shocking and sad.

“We had hoped that we can leverage on his wealth of experience that culminated to his becoming the CSO to the former president to develop the Ogbia kingdom, but unfortunately he died too soon.

“The matter of life and death lies in the hands of God. We all have a space of time on earth and we take this as God’s making.

“We are down cast by this, but we cannot question God. May his soul rest in peace,” Agadaga said.

Unclaimed $45m: We Need to Examine Wike’s Mental Status – Peterside

Wike

An All Progressives Congress (APC) stalwart in Rivers State, Dr Dakuku Peterside has questioned the mental status of Governor Nyesom Wike after claiming that the $45m found at a residence in Ikoyi, Lagos State belong to Rivers State Government.

Dr Peterside, who stated this in a chat with newsmen at the Port Harcourt International Airport, rubbished insinuations by Governor Wike that the money found in Lagos were part of proceeds Rivers State Government realised from sale of gas turbines by the Amaechi administration.

Wike was also quoted to have claimed that the house in question belongs to Amaechi, who has since issued a statement denying ownership of the said building.

He accused the Rivers State governor of turning governance to a circus show and lacking in sense of dignity by constantly being in the news for all the wrong reasons.

“Not too long ago, Wike apparently suffering from overdose of self delusion said he had awarded road projects in far away Benue State and had mobilised contractors to site.

“The same Wike has also accused the Inspector General of Police of plotting to assassinate him through the new CP in Rivers State.

“We thought these were jokes taken too far. But the clownish governor has surprised himself with another tales by moonlight in trying to link his former boss and benefactor to the unclaimed money.

“I think we need to check the sanity and mental status of Governor Wike. Time and time again, he is bringing ridicule to the office he occupies and embarrassing the people of Rivers State who are known to be intelligent, responsible and decent in upbringing,” he stressed.

He explained that Amaechi had since denied owning the said house in Lagos and challenged the Rivers State Government to provide evidence to the contrary.

Peterside, who was commissioner for works under Amaechi, noted that the money realised from sale of gas turbines were paid into the account of Rivers state and the money used for projects.

“While Wike can never come near the record of Amaechi, the current governor is doing everything to reverse the unmatchable records of his predecessor.

“As at today, no one has seen copies of 2016 and 2017 budgets of Rivers State. Schools and health centres are shutting down with thousands of school age children out of school. Rivers children on scholarship abroad have been withdrawn. The same governor has wasted Rivers money to host two failed conventions of a sinking PDP. His party chairman has accused him of using $6m to influence judicial officers.

“Wike has the unenviable record of governing a state having the most state-linked killings in Rivers history. He rose to become the governor of Rivers State on the bloods of innocent people.

“It is people like Wike who have made Nigerians to call to question the issue of immunity in the Constitution. He is taking immunity as shield to abuse the dignity of the office of Governor.

“The governor can still retrace his steps and follow the path of dignity, decorum and respect the office he occupies for he holds it in trust on behalf of Rivers people,” he summed up.

Buhari’s Easter Message to Nigerians

President Muhammadu Buhari during the Federal Executive Council Meeting held at the Council Chamber State House Abuja.

President Muhammadu Buhari has urged all Nigerians to live together in peace and harmony, in the spirit of Easter.

“I urge all Nigerians to live peacefully with one another and do their utmost to make Nigeria a beautiful place to reside”, President Buhari said in a special message signed by him to mark Easter..

Notably, peace was the theme of the special message as the president underscored its importance:

“It is in our collective interest to live in peace because without peace, no meaningful and sustainable development can take place.

”Lack of peace in one part affects in one way or the other, all parts of the country. Our people must rediscover the values of peaceful co-existence, social justice, religious tolerance, dignity of labour and patriotism.”

President Buhari, who will mark the second anniversary of his administration next month, also seized the occasion to assure Nigerians of his commitment to repair the economy and battle corruption,  insecurity and terrorism.

“In the almost two years of this administration, we have worked hard to meet the expectations of Nigerians by improving security, especially in the North-East, sustaining the campaign against corruption and revitalise the economy”, he said.

“We are determined as never before to continue with the fight against terrorism and insurgency; sustain the peace in the Niger Delta through engagements with stakeholders; and restore peace and stability in other parts of the country.”

Here is the full statement by President Buhari:

I congratulate our Christian brothers and sisters on the celebration of this year’s Easter.

I rejoice with you on this historic occasion signifying the triumph of good over evil, light over darkness, redemption over condemnation, and hope over despair.

The commemoration of this special season in Christianity, is always preceded by fasting, piety, humility, penance and prayers of intercession in the build up to the death of Jesus Christ on Good Friday, an event which reunited man with his Creator.

The message of Easter is filled with themes of love, faith, sacrifice, dedication, commitment, fulfilment of prophecy, hope, expectation and victory, as espoused in the Scriptures and the teachings and lifestyle of Jesus Christ.

As we celebrate yet another Easter, I urge all Nigerians to live peacefully with one another and do their utmost to make Nigeria a beautiful place to reside.

In the almost two years of this administration, we have worked hard to meet the expectations of Nigerians by improving security, especially in the North-East, sustaining the campaign against corruption and have taken steps to revitalize the economy.

We are determined as never before to continue with the fight against terrorism and insurgency; sustain the peace in the Niger Delta through engagements with stakeholders; and restore peace and stability in other parts of the country.

It is in our collective interest to live in peace because without peace, no meaningful and sustainable development can take place. Lack of peace in one part affects in one way or the other, all parts of the country. Our people must rediscover the values of peaceful co-existence, social justice, religious tolerance, dignity of labour and patriotism.

I enjoin all Nigerians to keep faith in the determination and ability of this administration to change the Nigerian story for the good of all.

I wish all Nigerians happy Easter celebrations.

President Muhammadu Buhari

Amaechi’s aide replies Fani-Kayode over ownership of EFCC’s Lagos found billions

Recovered Money

Transport Minister, Rotimi Amaechi’s media aide, Mr. David Iyofor has replied the former Minister of Aviation, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode who, in a tweet, alleged that Mr. Amaechi indeed owns both the apartment and the billions of money in both local and foreign currencies found on Wednesday by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, in Lagos.

Chief Fani-Kayode had in the tweet, said that, “The $43 million is Rotimi Amaechi’s. He owns the flat it was found in too.NIA story is fake news! NIA does not keep cash in Minister’s flats!”

However, Mr. Iyofor, while replying Fani-Kayode, said, “FAKE NEWS. Show us the title documents with Amaechi’s name as the owner or shut up. When normal peeps talk, this one also want to talk. SMH.”

“Someone will just sniff something then comes on Twitter to rant incomprehensible nonsense. Some fellows really need help, serious help.”

He went further to say that, “Lying out rightly to defame someone is not politics but pure madness. I just hope someone has not stop taking his meds.”

Recall that the anti-graft agency, on Wednesday, discovered the sums of $43million, £27,800 pounds and N23 million from an apartment in the Ikoyi area of Lagos.

Although a Federal High Court sitting in Lagos has ordered the temporary forfeiture of the sums to the Federal Government, nobody has come out yet to claim ownership of the money.

When Patience Jonathan called those of us in the north almajiris .., – Shahida, Sanusi’s daughter

Daughter of the Emir of Kano, Muhammad Sanusi II, Shahida, has said her father had always wanted to be an emir, but that he would not for the sake of preserving his stool, compromise his integrity by aligning with those who punish the poor.

Saying that ‘When Patience Jonathan called those of us in the north almajiris, we got angry, but come to think of it, is that not what we really are?We give birth to children and just abandon them. There are no schools for the poor. There are no hospitals for the poor”, she lamented.

Shahida who is the first non-titled individual to represent the emir at a public event, bared her mind Friday in Abuja at the maiden lecture to commemorate the abduction of over 200 school girls in Chibok, Borno state.“My father had always wanted to be an emir, but that does not mean that he will now shy away from the truth. He was once suspended as CBN governor and he is not afraid”, she said, adding that everything in life is ephemeral as only God enthrones and dethrones kings.According to Shahida, rather than fight critics, the north must do more to to change the rhetorics and be the master of her own destiny.

U.S., UK Embassies react to SSS ‘arrest’ of Boko Haram suspects targeting their missions

The embassies of the United States and the United Kingdom in Abuja have reacted to Wednesday’s announcement by the State Security Service that five suspected Boko Haram operatives with ties to the Islamic State terror group were arrested while plotting to attack the two missions.

In the announcement, which was circulated to the media on behalf of the SSS by Tony Opuiyo, the secret police said the terror plots were thwarted following a nationwide crackdown on terrorists and kidnappers between March and April.

The SSS identified the suspected terrorists as Isa Jibril, Jibril, Abu Omale Jibril, Halidu Sule and Ahmodu Salifu. They were arrested between March 25 and 26, in Benue State and Abuja, the agency said.

“The group had perfected plans to attack the UK and American Embassies and other western interests in Abuja,” the SSS said.

In separate reactions to the announcement, the U.S. and U.K. Embassies said their respective governments appreciate the efforts of Nigerian authorities in neutralising terror threats.

“The United States appreciates the work of Nigerian security forces in fighting terrorism and keeping citizens and residents safe,” U.S. Embassy spokesperson, Russell Brooks, said in an email to PREMIUM TIMES. “Nigeria and the United States continue to have a strong partnership in countering violent extremism.”

Also responding to PREMIUM TIMES’ enquiries, Joseph Abuku, spokesperson for the U.K. Embassy, conveyed British government’s gratitude to Nigerian security agencies in protecting their diplomatic staff and premises, adding that they were “in regular contact with the Nigerian security authorities concerning potential threats to UK interests in Nigeria.”

Both spokespersons declined specific comments relating to the announced foiled terror attacks.

A diplomatic source, however, told PREMIUM TIMES that no email was circulated to personnel of the embassies about the development, and also raised questions about why it took days for it to be announced.

“That usually means the embassies have not been briefed or able to independently verify the claims of the SSS,” an official said. “It’s also curious that they had to wait several days to add such high-profile operation in what seemed like a routine press statement.”
