New Quit Notice Alert: “Vacate Middle Belt Region Before October 1st Or Face Total War” – Middle Belt Youths Tells Herdsmen

A coalition of Middle Belt Youths has asked herdsmen to vacate the region before October 1 this year.

The youths under the aegis of Middle Belt Renaissance Forum, which met in Abuja over the weekend, threatened total war at the expiration of the ultimatum.

The meeting which was attended by representatives of youth groups from all the states making up the middle belt region discussed extensively pressing issues confronting the area.

A communiqué by its convener, Comrade Jones Simon Alfa, urged governors from the region to be alive to governance and desist from harassing media practitioners.

“The Middle Belt Governors should sit up to their responsibility of governing the people who voted them to power instead of the sudden primitive accumulation of wealth at the detriment of the suffering voters,” it reads.

“The Middle Belt Youths will no longer take the recklessness of the Governors in arresting Media Practitioners, Bloggers and Social Media Crusaders e.g Kaduna Governor and that of Kogi who are clear examples.

“The region is not in any way part of the agitation for Igbo to vacate the north on October. We have been living with the Igbo peacefully and will not join in the call for secession

“All herdsmen should vacate the Middle Belt Region before 1st October, 2017 or there will be total war if they are not ready to live in peace.”

The group called on the core north to stop using the middle belt people in achieving what it said was selfish political, economic aims and objectives.

The youths stated that the middle belt people are not northerners.

Fashola, siblings honour father with foundation

The Fashola Photographic Foundation in honour of the late father of the Minister of Works, Power and Housing, Babatunde Raji Fashola, has been unveiled in Lagos.

CHILDREN, grandchildren and other legatees of the late Alhaji Ademola Fashola, former-Advert Manager of Daily Times, pioneer General Manager of the Times Leisure Services,  avid photographer and father of the Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Babatunde Raji Fashola (SAN), converged on City Hall, Lagos Island, last Saturday  to launch a foundation in his honour.

The Fashola Photographic Foundation, a not-for-profit organisation that will soon include trainings in its activities, is a thoughtful gesture by off springs of the patriarch who passed on in August 2013 at 79 years.

Focussing on his love for photography, Pa Fashola’s descendants decided that the best way to keep his memory alive is to assist young photographers hone their craft with quality training within and outside Nigeria.

Consequently, they were joined at the event, which also featured an exhibition of photographs and old Daily Times publications, by friends, associates and eminent Nigerians, including the Oba of Lagos, Rilwan Akiolu, former Inspector General of Police, Musiliu Smith and Supo Shasore (SAN), among others.

With Big Brother Naija contestant, Bisola Aiyeola, coordinating events and after guests had, had their fills of the lovely photographs produced by the young photographers that had participated in a photo workshop curated by The Temple Management Company, the evening commenced formally with a welcome address by Dr Ademola Keji Fashola.

But in ensuring that the event was not just for pleasure, veteran photographer and writer, Tam Fiofori was on hand to speak on Photography as a noble profession. In the well-researched presentation, Fiofori reflected on the roots of photography in Nigeria, the early practitioners, genres   importance and gave tips on how to succeed in the profession.

Works minister, Fashola, who gave insights into the Foundation’s activities, disclosed that he and his siblings agreed that it was a good way to commemorate their father’s “simple but profound life.” Pa Fashola, he said, gave him his first camera at 13 and his first professional camera at 21.  Photography, he added, runs in the family.  “My father represented the fourth generation, I am the fifth and my children and their cousins are the sixth. All of us are lovers of photography. It was the sixth generation that planned this event and I’m proud of what they’ve done.” The minister assured that the Foundation would not discard good ideas that could improve it from the public.

The highpoint of the evening, however, was the announcement of the winner of the Foundation’s photography contest. Vivian Nwobi, one of the 13 photographers that participated in the training facilitated by Yetunde Ayeni-Babaeko, Lukman Olaonipekun, Sola Animashaun and TY Bello. The winner was announced by retired IGP Smith and given her gift – a two-week training in photography at the New York Film Academy in January 2018 – when a runner up, not originally in the plan, was chosen.

An anonymous guest decided to sponsor a second beneficiary with Kehinde Yusuf emerging the lucky winner. The duo, unsurprisingly, were emotional.  Nwobi said: “This is one of the amazing things that happened to me this year. I had no idea I would win. I was in class with 12 amazing photographers and you should see their works. I am super grateful to the foundation and Temple Management for this once in a lifetime opportunity.”

Yusuf also said,  “As a full-time event and documentary photographer, I can tell you that women in photography put in that ‘extra’ to make our work stand out in a male-dominated field.”

Earlier, a traditional band, Inufele and singer 9ice had entertained guests while a speed painter, Fola Davies, painted Pa Fashola’s portrait right there on stage. CEO of Temple Management Company, Idris Olorunnimbe, later presented the painting to the Foundation.

Jonathan Blasts Critics, Says Only PDP Can Lead Nigeria To Greatness

Former President Goodluck Jonathan has faulted critics of his administration and the Peoples Democratic Party, saying the party is back and is the only one that can lead the country to greatness.

Mr Jonathan’s comments came at the PDP’s non-elective national convention today in Abuja, one month after the Supreme Court resolves the prolonged leadership tussle in the party.

“I am here to reassure you that nobody should intimidate PDP. PDP is the only party that can take Nigeria to greatness. I believe in the PDP. Even God believes in the PDP,” he said.

The PDP has attracted heavy criticism for its 16-year rule, especially in the build up to the 2015 general elections and since the All Progressives Congress replaced it as the ruling party with the current administration levelling serious allegations of corruption against the Jonathan administration.

But Jonathan dismissed the allegations, insisting that the party did well.

“I read the papers and people always want to diminish the PDP. It is difficult to beat us; you cannot beat us. And I tell us, PDP members, that from the days of (Olusegun) Obasanjo through the days of (Umaru) Yar’Adua to Jonathan, we have done well. Nobody should intimidate you,” he said.

The Jonathan administration has also been blamed for the current economic crisis in the country, which has seen inflation soar, led to the loss of jobs and as companies and governments have battled to pay salaries.

But the former President would have none of that even though he admits that the PDP is not perfect.

He said, “As a human institution we cannot claim to be perfect, but obviously as a political party, our accomplishments up till 2015 are clear for everybody to see. Our giant development strides are there for all Nigerians to see. There is ample evidence to show that our party has indeed proved to be a party of vision and accomplishment.”

On the political front, he used the elections conducted as examples of his party’s success.

“The elections we conducted, especially from 2011 to 2015 general elections and other elections – senatorial and governorship elections – were accepted globally that they met global standards because PDP is a party that wants to place Nigeria globally to compete favourably with other countries. We don’t look back and we have done well. We succeeded in doing that because of the leverage and autonomy we gave to INEC,” he said.

“Also, even on the economic front, we provided focused leadership through institutional and sectoral reforms which impacted positively on the fundamentals for growth especially in the last four years of my time in power.

“The effect was that we tamed inflation at single digit, maintained price stability, grew the economy to become the largest in Africa with a GDP of over half a trillion dollars and the number one foreign investment destination on the continent.”

He took a swipe at the APC’s handling of the economy, particularly the high food prices, claiming that despite heavy flooding in 2012, which affected many farms across the nation, his administration was able to keep food prices stable.

30 killed in Ozubulu brothers’ drug war in S/Africa

The drug war between indigenes of the Ozubulu caused by mistrust may have claimed 30 lives in South Africa. The deaths occurred following a collapsed business deal.

The deaths resonated in Ozubulu community in Anambra state when the Catholic Church was attacked leaving more than 13 people dead on Sunday, August 6.

According to the Vanguard, the quarrel among the indigenes of Ozubulu in residing in South Africa was caused by the suspicion among them over failure to keep to business deals.

The theatre of war shifted to Amakwa village, causing last Sunday’s shooting incident at St Philip’s Catholic Church, in which 27 worshippers were also injured.

The shooting took place during 6.00am Mass.Five of its indigenes were killed this year in South Africa.

Some of the villagers revealed to Vanguard which visited Ozubulu after the Sunday killings.

“In 10 years about 30 people from this place have been killed in South Africa,” a woman who preferred anonymity for security reasons told us.
“It had to do with one deal or the other”, she said

Vanguard made inquiries about the owners of the mansions and discovered that most of their owners reside in South Africa and were either dead or had not returned home for a long time due to fear associated with the nature of their businesses.

Looking at some of the houses, it was obvious that they had been abandoned for a long time. It was gathered that many of the people who own the houses consistently contribute meaningfully towards community development through their relations, especially in the area of church building, road rehabilitation, market construction, among other projects.

Take the case of Chief Aloysius Ikegwuonu, popularly called ‘Bishop’ for instance, he started contributing towards the development of Ozubulu many years ago and before he returned home and got involved in community development. Some years ago, he was awarded a chieftaincy title by the community even in his absence due to his contributions towards the development of the community.

The Monarch of Ozubulu, Igwe Oruche confirmed that the problem started about 10 years ago when ODU, which has a branch in South Africa, wanted to elect a new President- General there. He said:

“This created a major disagreement over who would be their leader in that country and it eventually tore them apart. But the overall President General both in Ozubulu and in Diaspora, Engr. Norbert Anigbogu intervened by inviting the two factions back home for a peaceful resolution of the problem. “When they returned, a traditional oath was prepared for them to take in order to enthrone brotherliness among them and to further quell the rift between the factions, but most of them refused to take the oath on the basis that they are Christians. “At that point, an alternative was made and a Catholic priest was invited to perform the Christian aspect of oath- taking which was done and everyone appreciated it. “But later, the conflict was rekindled by some of them who reneged the agreement made during the oath taking alleged that since I, the traditional ruler, was not present during the exercise, the reconciliation was null, void and improper.”

A suicide bomber on a motorcycle has targeted a military truck with a bomb killing eight soldiers and seven civilians in the south-western city of Quetta, Pakistani officials have said.

Kabeer Khan, an explosives expert who examined the site, said after collecting forensic evidence that it was a suicide attack and that the attacker was carrying some 25kg of “incendiary explosives” on a motorcycle that he rammed into the military truck.

A military statement said the bomb also wounded 25 people, including 15 civilians. It said the explosives sparked fires in nearby vehicles. It added that all the victims were taken to a military hospital.

Pakistani army chief Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa condemned the attack. He said in a statement that it was an attempt to mar the independence day festivities. “Our resolve won’t succumb to any challenge,” Gen Bajwa said.

Maria Sharapova Claims Serena Williams Called Her A “Little Bitch”

Former Wimbledon champ (and doping suspendee) Maria Sharapova’s memoirs come out in September. People (by way of Metro UK) got a hold of an excerpt in which Maria addresses her long-running professional feud with tennis superbeing Serena Williams. Maria says that beating Serena at Wimbledon in 2004 resulted in the tennis legend referring to her as a “little bitch.” Maria got off lucky. She could have shared the same fate as one of Serena’s racquets!

In a passage from Unstoppable Except For When I Test Positive For Performance Enhancing Drugs: My Life So Far, Maria says that her Wimbledon victory over Serena at age 17 made the both of them into even fiercer competitors. And she claims it’s all because Serena knows that Maria overheard her losing her shit that day. She says that, after her win, Serena congratulated her on the court and was cheesing it for the cameras. But it was a whole ‘nother story in the locker room.

What I heard when I came into the locker room was Serena Williams bawling. Guttural sobs. I got out as quickly as I could, but she knew I was there.

People often wonder why I have had so much trouble beating Serena; my record against her is 2 and 19. To me, the answer was in this locker room.

Later on, Maria says that a mutual friend told her that Serena wasn’t exactly singing her praises.

I think Serena hated me for being the skinny kid who beat her, against all odds, at Wimbledon. But mostly I think she hated me for hearing her cry. Not long after the tournament, I heard Serena told a friend – who then told me – “I will never lose to that little bitch again”.’

As Maria pointed out, she has only beaten Serena twice in her career. Serena, on the other hand, has kicked that ass 19 times. That is a motivated lady! Serena must have spent her training time just slamming balls at the head of a cardboard cutout of Ms. Sharapova over and over as well as boycotting Russian vodka and caviar.

Gospel Singer, Kenny Saint Brown Says Its Okay For Her Daughter To Date Once She Is 15 Years Old

Gospel singer, Kenny Saint Ogungbe married husband Eddy Asiedu Brown in 2006 and changed her name to Kenny Saint Brown. The couple divorced in 2012 after 6 years of marriage and two children together, she has since been taking good care of her children since then.
Talking to Saturday Beats, KSB was asked the age she would allow her teenage daughter to have a boyfriend, she said when she attains the “penis envy” stage.
Wikipedia described the ‘Penis Envy’ as a stage theorised by Sigmund Freud regarding female psychosexual development, in which young girls experience anxiety upon realisation that they do not have a penis. However, the singer said that her Philosophy lecturer in school defined it as a stage in a young girl’s life when she realises that she attracts the member of the opposite sex.
KSB also said she started dating when she was 15 years old so she would be a wicked mother to deny her child from dating a man at that age.

When I was in the university, I took a course in Philosophy and they taught us that there is a particular age that girls start dating and they call it the age of ‘Penis Envy’.
It is not that the girls are necessarily looking for sex, it is just a stage in their life whereby they realise that they are pretty and they can be attractive to a guy.

For me, once my daughter is 15 years old then it is okay for her to date. It is not that they would be walking around holding hands but it has to be a civil and responsible relationship. I am not a regular parent, I feel it is okay for a female child to be aware that she is attractive to guys and she should also know that the guy would woo her. That was the age it happened to me and I would be a wicked mother to expect that at the age of 15, my daughter would not have someone wooing her or telling her the usual lies guys tell ladies.
So for my boy, if he is 17 and I notice that he is always talking to someone on the phone and always smiling, it is okay. It does not mean that they are going to be practising sex; it just means that they are understanding matters of the heart and love apart from the love they get from their parents,” she said.

I’M OKAY, ONLY NEED TO OBEY DOCTORS’ ORDERS, PRESIDENT BUHARI TELLS VISITING MEDIA TEAM

President Buhari’s media aides, visited him today at the Abuja House in London, and the President who said there’s tremendous improvement in his health, further disclosed he wishes to return home.
According to Femi Adesina, the President said he’s only obeying his doctors orders. Here’s what Femi Adesina wrote;

President Muhammadu Buhari says there is tremendous improvement in his health, indeed, he wishes to return home, “but I’ve learnt to obey my doctor’s orders, rather than be the one issuing the orders. Here, the doctor is absolutely in charge.”

The President spoke while receiving the presidential media team, and the Senior Special Assistant on Diaspora Matters, at Abuja House, London, on Saturday. Alhaji Lai Mohammed, Minister of Information and Culture, led the visiting team, accompanied by Mr Femi Adesina, Special Adviser on Media and Publicity; Mallam Garba Shehu, Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, and Lauretta Onochie, Personal Assistant on Digital/Online Media. Also there was Mrs Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Senior Special Assistant on Diaspora Matters.
When the team expressed delight at the much improved health of the President, he retorted: “I feel I could go home, but the doctors are in charge. I’ve now learnt to obey orders, rather than be obeyed.”

On how he felt hearing different conjectures about his health, an amused President Buhari said he followed events at home closely, lauding Nigerian television stations, and the media generally, for keeping him informed.

When told that prayers were going on fervently for him, not only in Nigeria, but all over Africa, and round the world, a delighted President said: “What we did in The Gambia early this year fetched us a lot of goodwill on the African continent. It gave us a lot of latitude. I thank all those who are praying. May God reward them.”
President Buhari sent appreciation to all Nigerians, expressing hope that he would be with them soon.

PDP won’t support separatist agenda – Akpabio

Acting President Yemi Osinbajo Chats with Senate Minority Leader, Godswill Akpabio

The Chairman of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Senate Caucus, Sen. Godswill Akpabio, has assured Nigerians that the party will not support any separatist agenda in the country.

Akpabio made this known while speaking at the Non-Elective Convention of the PDP in Abuja on Saturday.

He said the party would continue to promote anything that would ensure the peace and unity of the country.

The lawmaker, who is also the Minority Leader of the Senate, condemned hate speeches in some parts of the country, saying that the unity of the country was non-negotiable.

He assured of the PDP’s support to policies of the present administration, which were aimed at taking the country out of recession.

He, however, said that the party would not support any policy that would plunge the country into depression.

On the PDP’s stance on fight against corruption, Akpabio said that it believed strongly in the course, adding that it was PDP’s government that established the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

“Corruption is endemic and it was brought about by the colonial masters.

“In 1960 when the Governor-General of Nigeria was handing over to the elected government of Alhaji Tafawa Balewa, one of the things he said was that the problem of Nigeria was corruption.

“So, it is not a Nigerian invention and PDP has been fighting it.

“However, we must distinguish between the fight against corruption and the fight against political opponents.

“We must distinguish between fighting corruption and persecution. They are two different things,’’ he said.

Akpabio lauded the recent Supreme Court judgment on the leadership of the PDP, and said that the judiciary restored sanity in the party.

He said that with the judgment, the party was poised to act as a viable opposition, while working towards ensuring good governance.

“What a beautiful moment this is for democracy in Africa.

“Nigeria is the largest black nation in the world, and a country with the population of over 170 million people cannot afford to disintegrate.

“The only way the black race can have respect is for Nigeria to have a stable democracy and the only thing that shows democracy is the legislature.

“That is why we are here in our numbers as senators, House of Representatives members and all of you gathered here today.

“We all represent democracy and that is what the PDP stands for. PDP stands for a show of the will of the people to determine who leads them,’’ he said.

Akpabio assured party members who had defected to other parties and anyone willing to join the party that its doors were open to accommodate them.

He congratulated the Chairman and members of the National Caretaker Committee of the party and pledged the continued support of PDP senators in moving the party forward.

NYSC Denies Launching Portal For Payment Of N75,000 To Ex Corps Members

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has today on its official Facebook page denied launching a portal for payment of N75,000 to ex-NYSC corps members.

Earlier this week, the news of the NYSC scheme launching a portal for ex corps members to register and get N75,000 stipend has been circulating, but the scheme has come out to say its all false.

In the Facebook post by the NYSC, the scheme stated that the information is false, and misleading, as they advised the general public to disregard the claims.

See the full post below;

RE: NYSC DG LAUNCHES PORTAL FOR PAYMENT OF N75,000 TO EX-NYSC CORPS MEMBERS

The attention of the NYSC Management has been drawn to publications with the above caption by some online platforms.

The blogs, ‘Safe Job’ and ‘Vanguard News’, cited a purported passage of bill on payment of stipends to ex-Corps members by the Senate, and published information claiming that the NYSC Director-General had launched a portal for the payment of the said stipends.

A fake Facebook account, NYSC Online, has also been spreading the content published by the two blogs.

Management wishes to state that the information is not only false, but also misleading; and should, therefore, be disregarded.

We further wish to inform our esteemed stakeholders that the so-called “NYSC Online” is NOT the official Facebook page of the National Youth Service Corps.

For the avoidance of doubt, authentic information from the NYSC Scheme can be accessed through our official Facebook page with the following link: www.facebook.com/officialnysc

Thank you.
