Uche Okafor Former Super Eagles Player Found Dead In America.

Former Nigeria international, Uche Okafor, was found dead at his Dallas, Texas home in the United States of America (USA) early Thursday.

Ben Iroha, a former Nigerian team-mate of Uche between 1990 and 1994, told SuperSport.com that he received the shock news via a telephone conversation from the United States that the 43-year-old has died.

"Seriously I still find it hard to believe when I got the call from the US yesterday (Thursday) evening. This is a really sad way to begin the year," said Iroha.

Iroha added that he is yet to know what really transpired up to the death of his former teammate. "I am yet to know what happened. But I feel so sad to hear this because he was a very marvelous friend and brother," said the former Heartland assistant coach.

However, there are still no details concerning surrounding the death of the former winner of the Africa Cup of Nations. The former Nigerian footballer was said to have taken his daughter to school early Thursday and was later found dead in his US home.

The police in the United States are said to have cordoned off the home of Okafor, as a coroner is carrying out an inquest into circumstance surrounding his death.

Okafor's professional career began at defunct ACB of Lagos before he moved to KRC Mechelen.

The late Nigerian player has also played for Hannover 96 before ending his career at Sporting Kansas City, formerly known as Kansas City Wizards.

Late Okafor also featured in one of the four matches of Nigeria's Super Eagles at the 1994 Fifa World Cup in the USA. He was also a football pundit on African football for ESPN until his death.

Vivica A. Fox Engaged to Young Concert Promoter PopEater Staff

Congrats are in order for 'Independence Day' actress Vivica A. Fox, who got engaged over the holidays to her much-younger boyfriend, Omar "Slim" White.

According to a Page Six source, the 27-year-old concert promoter asked for Fox's hand in marriage on Dec. 26 with an eight-karat rock while the two were staying at the Ritz Carlton in Miami Beach. Fox, 46, showed off the huge ring at LeBron James' 26th birthday party a few days later.

Her rep has confirmed the engagement but the star has not commented.

Fox said she and Atlanta native White are hoping to have a baby in 2011.

"My career has been my baby for such a long time and I've done well by that," she said. "I waited for God to send me a good man, and he's a good Southern man."

On concerns it may be a challenge to get pregnant at 46, Fox explained, "I'm very fertile, so I don't think that I would have a problem."

This will be the second marriage for Fox, who divorced singer Christopher Harvest in 2002 after a four-year union. The actress, whose films include 'Kill Bill: Vol. 1' and 'Juwanna Mann,' also made headlines in 2003 for dating rapper 50 Cent.

Basket Mouth was on hand to compere the event. The book was preceded by a Red Carpet session in a cool breezy evening. Jacqueline Iheme was well grounded with the synopsis, a brief story and process of the book and the writer. A happy mother, Mrs. Iheme took her turn to praise her loving daughter ‘ she reminds me of her late father’ asking for support from all for the book, as she was the first to launch the book on the night. It was followed by review of the book by Mrs. Obasi. The launch continued with support from Chief Emeka Etiaba, Chief Mrs. Nina Ekechi,Mrs. Ify Anasomu Akerele- DG Chamber of Shipping, as several support was welcome from the audience. Mrs. Fisayo, Principal Christ the Cornerstone International School ( CTC), also rained praises on her former student, as well support the book launch. It was the turn of Geraldine Iheme to speak about her book, according to her it took her three years to write the book. She decided to write it, because a lot of issues are not been talked about and it is hurting in every sense. To her her it’s a captivating and intriguing story of unspoken truth and a definite ‘must read’. Fellow housemates from South Africa and Mozambique were present to give their own support. The night was blended with comedy by Basket Mouth and Fx and musical performances by super vocalist Bez and sensational Modele and chike. It was indeed a memorable evening, and a book launch experience that has never been experienced before.

Oprah Winfrey Finally Launched Her New TV Cable Network.

Oprah Winfrey finally launched her new TV cable network this Saturday and it's only a matter of time before its popularity with viewers is gauged.

The network, called OWN aims to capitalise on Winfrey's phenomenal fan base as a presenter.

"Happy New Year everybody and welcome to OWN. This is a very exciting day for me kicking off the next chapter of my life with all of you. Yes, the Oprah Winfrey Network is finally on the air," the Telegraph quoted her as saying.

Her very first programs to be aired on the channel are "Finding Sarah", hosted by Ms Ferguson, and "Why Not?" with Grammy-award winning Canadian diva Shania Twain.

But will the show strike a chord with viewers?

"Oprah has a very powerful brand name, but it's really difficult to get people to change their viewing habits and find a new channel," said Derek Baine, an analyst for industry consultant SNL Kagan.

"Plus, the fact that she'll still be on her syndicated show will probably be confusing to some people."

Winfrey admitted in a recent interview with the Wall Street Journal that it may take time to translate the success of a show she'd done 140 times a year into a network which airs 24 hours a day.

"If you're on the outside looking in, of course it looks like a big risk. But for me, it's not so much about going wider. It's about going deeper, so that you have a platform that has a deeper impact," she said.

The chat show queen added that for the first time she had given cameras full access to the "very private world of Oprah Winfrey".
