Fed Govt Denies Hiring Australian, Dr Stephen Davis As Mediator Between It And Boko Haram.| Says It Will Not Prosecute Sherrif & Ihejirika.

The Federal Government has denied hiring an Australian, Dr Stephen Davis, as a mediator between it and the Boko Haram sect. The Coordinator of the National Information Centre, Mike Omeri made the position of the Federal Government known in Abuja.

The official added that the FG does not have any plan of prosecuting any Nigerian for now over allegations made by Mr. Davis. The Perth-based international advisor had named a former governor of Borno State, Ali Modu Sheriff, a former Chief of Army Staff, General Onyeabo Azubuike Ihejirika and an ex-senior official of the Central Bank of Nigeria as sponsors of the violent group.

But Omeri insisted on Friday that the Federal Government has not hired anybody to negotiate on its behalf with the Boko Haram sect.“For now, the Federal Government of Nigeria has not appointed anyone to negotiate on its behalf with the Boko Haram sect, anytime it decides to do so, the Federal Government will make it known to the public.“On the various allegations made by the alleged negotiator, the Federal Government is still investigating it, whatever should be done rightly will be done but there is no plan to probe any Nigerian for now”, he said.On the taking over of Gwoza and Bama by the Boko Haram sect, Omeri said Bama and Gwoza still remained part of Nigeria.

“Bama and Gwoza still remains part of Nigeria, the Federal Government will not cede any part of its territory to any group as troops are still on ground in Borno State and are capable of defending the state no matter the situation”, he said.Omeri, however, could not confirm if 21 local government areas have been taken over by the Boko Haram sect as being alleged by some Nigerians.

Court Begins Process To Reinstate Former Gov.Of Adamawa State Murtala Nyako.

A Federal High Court in Lagos on Friday gave ultimatum to parties to file and serve processes in a suit seeking the reinstatement of the former Governor of Adamawa State, Murtala Nyako.A Lagos-based lawyer, Mr Olukoya Ogungbeje, had filed the suit seeking Nyako’s reinstatement with immediate effect on the ground that Nyako’s impeachment did not follow the due process of law.

Justice Okon Abang ordered the parties to ensure that all the processes relating to the determination of the case were filed and served to both parties before 3 p.m. on Sept. 11.Abang told the respondents to file and serve the applicant latest by 3 p.m. on Sept. 8, and the applicant to reply on point of law by 3 p.m. on Sept 9.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the respondents had appeared in court without replying the originating motion.NAN reports that the counsel to the applicant, Mr Nelson Okedinachi; counsel to the respondents, Mr Ademola Adesina and Mr M.O. Taiwo, were all in court. The trial judge had on Aug. 26, said that the case was urgent and would be entertained by a vacation judge.

He, therefore, said that his jurisdiction as a vacation judge was limited to the South West Zone.Abang, however, said  the parties would during hearing of the case, convince him that he had territorial jurisdiction to entertain the suit. The defendants in the suit are Umaru Fintiri, sued as the acting Governor of Adamawa State; Adamawa State House of Assembly; and the Chief Judge of the State as at the time a panel that impeached Nyako was constituted.Others are Justice Ambrose Mammadi, the Chairman of the seven-member panel that investigated allegations of gross misconduct against Nyako; Mr Buba Kajama of Independent Electoral Commission (INEC) and the Inspector-General of Police.Ogungbeje had in his motion paper specifically sought certain reliefs. He sought a declaration that the setting up of the seven-member panel by Justice Mammadi was biased, unlawful, illegal and unconstitutional violation of Nyako’s right to fair hearing.

He said this was as guaranteed under Section 36 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended). The lawyer also prayed the court to declare the constitution of the seven-member panel by both the House and Mammadi, against a subsisting order of court as unlawful, contemptuous, illegal, undemocratic and a flagrant violation of the constitution. He had further urged the court to nullify Nyako’s impeachment on July 15, and another order compelling Fintiri to vacate office as Acting Governor forthwith. The lawyer finally asked the court to reinstate Nyako as Governor of Adamawa. On the grounds of the suit, the lawyer explained that the case was necessitated because there had been grave constitutional infraction perpetrated by the respondents. The applicant had also contended in the matter that the failure of the respondents to serve the impeachment notice personally on Nyako was a breach of Nyako’s right to fair hearing and fair trial.Ogungbeje stressed that “apart from the fact that Nyako was not personally served with the impeachment notice, he was also not served with a copy of hearing notice by the panel, chaired by Kajama”.The lawyer also argued that the conduct and actions of the respondents had seriously occasioned miscarriage of justice and right to fair hearing against Nyako. He said that Nyako did not commit any offence to warrant the treatment that was meted out to him.The lawyer, who described himself as a Nigerian citizen, human rights activist, constitutional lawyer, property consultant, columnist, publisher, author and Lagos resident, said the suit was filed on the account that he was a patriotic Nigerian, who only wanted to challenge constitutional infraction.“I have a duty as a minister in the temple of justice and a legal practitioner to protect and defend the sanctity of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria from any constitutional contravention or infraction.“I have sworn to uphold the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in line with Rule 1 of the Rules of Professional Conduct for Legal Practitioners in Nigeria,’’ Ogungbeje said.

Ewedu Can Prevent And Cure Ebola Virus Disease-Prof Adebukola Ositelu (Consultant At LUTH Idi Araba).

A consultant at LUTH in Idi Araba, Prof Adebukola Ositelu has said Ewedu (known in English as a Long-Fruited vegetable), has the potency and capability of preventing and maybe curing the Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) by boosting the immune system. This disclosure was made known during the annual African Traditional Medicine Day organized by the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) on Thursday, September 4 at Ikeja, Lagos.Adebukola Ositelu, a professor of ‎Ophthalmology at the University of Lagos, Akoka (UNILAG), added that the vegetable could also get rid of the virus in the case of an infected person. For treatment:she said the Ewedu should be rinsed thoroughly with liquid vinegar. Then it should be blended and cooked with drinkable water, without adding salt or potash (locally called akaun) or any other ingredients. For prevention:take a 25cl or half a tumbler measure once a week, first thing in the morning before any meal, while those already infected should take it every morning for seven to five days. However, she noted that chances of being cured by an intake of Ewedu when a victim has gotten to the stage of vomiting was low, but could still be administered.Following the first Ebola outbreak reported in Nigeria, reports went viral that bitter kola could cure the ailment, Prof. Onyebuchi Chukwu however debunked the report, saying there was no scientific evidence of Garcinia kola curing the virus. After that came the “hot-water-and-salt” Ebola cure rumour which also went viral and some Nigerians, trying to avoid being infected with the Ebola virus ,decided to adopt the rumour. As a result of this, six persons were hospitalized in Makurdi, Benue, after they bathed with and drank salt water to avert the dreaded disease. Some lost their lives due to too much intake of salt in Plateau State.

#EbolaVirus : NHRC Insists On Oct.13 Resumption For All Schools.

In a bid to withhold the wide spread of the Ebola virus disease, Liveschool News reports that the National Human Rights Commission has said it will ensure that appropriate punishment is imposed on persons, particularly private school proprietors, who flout the Federal Government’s directive that schools should remain shut till October 13.

The NHRC said flouting the directive by government, which was aimed at preventing a further spread of the Ebola Virus Disease, would be viewed as “a violation of peoples’ rights” which the commission had the mandate to protect.

Executive Secretary of the NHRC, Prof. Bem Angwe, issued this threat in Abuja on Wednesday, during an awareness programme it organized on ‘the rights of People Living with HIV/AIDS’.

#BringBackJonathan Group Emerges In Abuja.

It was an ironic situation yesterday when a group of people under the hashtag, #BringBackJonathan gathered at the Unity Fountain in Abuja, where the #BringBackOurGirls Group has been holding its sit-out sessions to demand for the rescue of the over 200 Chibok schoolgirls abducted by the Boko Haram sect in April.

The group of people gathered at the location with musical instruments, playing and having fun, while shouting, “#BringBackJonathan!” just beside the gloomy looking #BringBackOurGirls Group.

Reacting to the situation, the BBOG Group said it was an insult to the Borno people, the Chibok girls and Nigerians at large, that a group of people would choose to ridicule their activities and their demand for the rescue of the abducted girls by creating a hashtag, #BringBackJonathan.

“It is a clear lack of empathy that with the current security situation in Nigeria and the fact that some of the Chibok girls are ‎still in the hands of the Boko Haram, some group of persons will come out to create a hashtag, #BringBackJonathan. This is mockery to this peculiar situation of people of Borno, Chibok girls and the North East in general,” the group lamented.

The group also said yesterday that as part of its activities to keep the issue of the abducted girls on the front burner of public awareness, it had visited the People’s Daily Newspapers office in Abuja, adding that the visit was a fruitful one.

“They told us not to give up on our struggle; rather, we should continue to speak on behalf of the Chibok girls. They promised to help put the issue of the girls on the front burner. The visit is giving us a special mileage that we have not got before. Any initiative that will keep us on the front burner should be encouraged,” the BBOG Group said.
