Julian Assange Granted Assylum In Ecuador But Will Not Be Guaranteed Safe Passage Out Of UK.

Ecuador granted Julian Assange asylum over fears of political persecution Thursday, but it was hardly a reprieve as Britain vowed to extradite the WikiLeaks founder to Sweden to face questioning on sex crime charges.

Assange, whose website has published hundreds of thousands of once-secret U.S. government documents, has been holed up in the Ecuadorian Embassy in London since June.

Ecuadorian Foreign Minister Ricardo Patiño said Thursday there is credible fear that if Assange is sent to Sweden, he could subsequently be extradited to the United States, where he could be charged with espionage and treason.

In the United States, there are no guarantees that Assange would receive a fair trial or that he wouldn't be subject to a military or secret tribunal, Patiño added.

But Julian Assange will not be allowed safe passage out of the UK, Foreign Secretary William Hague said today as he warned that diplomatic immunity should not be used to harbour alleged criminals.

Mr Hague said it was a 'matter of regret' that the Ecuadorian government decided to grant Mr Assange political asylum but warned that it 'does not change the fundamentals' of the case.

His announcement came as Mr Assange was granted asylum by Ecuador  in whose London embassy he has taken refuge since June  in a move that is likely to spark an international row.

The decision is likely to deepen tensions between the UK and Ecuador, who have grown increasingly hostile with each other over whether Mr Assange would be arrested and extradited.

'Diplomatic immunity exists to allow embassies and diplomats to exercise proper diplomatic functions and the harbouring of alleged criminals, or frustrating the due legal process in a country, is not a permitted function.

Bobby Brown Checks Himself Into Rehab.

R&B singer Bobby Brown has checked into a "confidential rehabilitation center" last week as part of his agreement following his March arrest for drunken driving in Los Angeles.

His publicist says that Brown's plea agreement in the case requires that he requires that he get treatment for alcohol use. His attorneyChristopher Brown says in a statement that Brown "takes his agreement very seriously."

The 43-year-old singer is the former husband of Whitney Houston, who died this year. He married his manager Alicia Etheredge-Brown in June.

Brown still plans to perform scheduled solo concerts and tour with his group New Edition. His first album in 14 years came out this summer.

History in the making As The Future Awards Moves To Port Harcourt. Keynote Speaker Is Tony Elumelu.

The central working committee for The Future Awards is excited to announce that Port Harcourt – selected by UNESCO as the World Book Capital 2014 – is the official host city for The Future Awards 2012. The event will hold on 25 and 26 August in the Rivers State capital.

KennyG Files For Divorce After 20 Years Of Marriage.

Kenny G has filed for divorce from his wife,  this after his wife filed for legal separation back in January.

In the court docs  filed Thursday in L.A. by Kenny's disso-queen attorney Laura Wasser  the musician cites "irreconcilable differences" as the reason for the split from his wife Lyndie Benson-Gorelick. They've been married for 20 years.
In the docs, Kenny indicates there IS a prenup -- which is significant because Kenny's worth a reported $50 million.
Kenny also asks the court for joint legal and physical custody of the couple's minor son.
TMZ broke the story ... Lyndie filed for legal separation in January, also citing "irreconcilable differences." We're guessing Kenny just got sick of waiting for her to file for divorce, so he made the first move.

Well, 35-year-old Kariem McFarlin, of Alameda, CA has been arrested and charged with burglary and selling stolen property from the home of former Apple CEO Steve Jobs.McFarlin stole computers and personal items worth more than $60,000 from the Northern California home of the late Steve Jobs.

Santa Clara County prosecutor Tom Flattery won't say if the items taken from the Palo Alto home on July 17 belonged to Jobs or another family member. The house was surrounded by a temporary construction barrier in July.The co-founder of Apple Inc. died last year at the age of 56.Flattery refused to discuss details about the case.Prosecutors say McFarlin didn’t know it was the home of Steve Jobs. He remains jailed with bail set at $500,000 pending an Aug. 20 court hearing.The co-founder of Apple Inc. died last year after a long battle with cancer.

Just In.7 Feared Dead In Kaduna Blast.

At least four motor cycle operators and three bombers are reported to have died in an explosion this afternoon in Kaduna.
The incident happened along Ali Akilu road, between Abakpa Total/Shagalinku within the metropolis. It is not clear where the bombers where heading to with the explosives before it went off.
The operational office of the Kaduna state security task force, Operation Yaki, is located along the street directly where the bomb went off.

Fashola Orders Full Investigaton Into The Battering Of Photojournalist By LASUTH Staff.

 Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola  has ordered a full –scale investigation into the circumstances that led to the battering of a photojournalist of Leadership newspaper, Benedict Uwalaka , by mortuary attendants at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) on the allegation that he had photographs of one of the corpses of Dana plane crash.
