Fayose To Spend Weekend In Prison,Struggled To Meet Bail Conditions

Former governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose who was granted bail by the Lagos Division of the Federal High Court on October 24th will spend the weekend in prison as he failed to meet his bail condition before the close of work on Friday.

Fayose who is facing an 11-count charge of conspiracy and money laundering amounting to ?2.2 billion was granted a N50 million bail and the judge ordered that he should provide two sureties who must issue a ?50 million bond in a reputable bank as well as possess three years tax clearance. She also directed that the former governor deposits his international passport with the court.

However, Fayose, who pleaded not guilty to all the charges leveled against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has struggled to meet the bail conditions and could not do so on Friday before close of business.

His media aide, Lere Olayinka on Friday afternoon tweeted, ‘on Fayose’s bail, as at 2pm today, all necessary documents were filed before the court and verified. Hopefully, he should be out of custody by Monday. We thank Nigerians for their support’. He will therefore spend the weekend at the Ikoyi Prison in Lagos, where he is currently being held.

18-Year Old Barber Drugs 14-Year-Old Neighbour, Defiles Her While Sleeping

The police in Lagos have arrested an 18-year-old barber, Bakare Ismail, for allegedly defiling his neighbour, a 14-year-old girl.

Ismail had reportedly lured the girl, Bidemi (pseudonym), to his parents’ residence on Banjo Street, Owutu in the Ikorodu area of the state on Saturday, October 13, around 4pm.

While the victim was seated, Ismail allegedly offered her a soft drink laced with a sedative. She was said to have slept off minutes after taking the drink.

Saturday Punch learnt that the suspect had s-x with Bidemi, who reportedly woke up to find bloodstains on her pants.

The victim told the police that she was running an errand for her aunt when Ismail, who lives in the next compound, approached her and demanded to have a talk with her. She said she went back to him after delivering the message her aunt sent her.

“While I was in his apartment, he offered me a soft drink which I drank. As we were talking, I did not know when I slept off. When I woke up, I saw bloodstains on my clothes. I rushed home to change my clothes.

“I was crying because I knew my aunt would punish me if she knew I had been raped.”

However, the suspect denied committing the crime, adding that he did not give Bidemi any drink that day.

“I was not at home throughout that day. My dad was not around either. He locked up the house before he left. So, I did not have s-x with her. She was lying,” he added.

The victim was taken to Mirabel Centre in Ikeja, where a test conducted on her reportedly revealed that there was a laceration in her private parts.

Ismail was consequently brought before an Ikeja Magistrate’s Court by a police prosecutor, Inspector Benson Emuehi, on one count of defilement.

President Trump Addresses Largest Gathering of Young Black Conservatives at White House

President Trump commented on the arrest of serial bombing suspect Cesar Sayoc when he addressed the 2018 Young Black Leadership Summit in the White House on Friday.

Federal agents arrested Cesar Sayoc at an Auto Zone store in Plantation, Florida on Friday morning. The 56-year-old Caucasian male is suspected of mailing at least 11 suspicious packages to former Presidents Bill Clinton and Barack Obama, as well as Hillary Clinton, Debbie Wasserman Schultz, Eric Holder, and actor Robert De Niro.

The president addressed the largest gathering of young Black conservatives ever assembled in the East Room at the White House on Friday.

“I’m pleased to tell you that a suspect has been arrested and taken into custody,” Trump said to loud cheers.

More cheers erupted when the President asked how many people in the room wanted to be president some day.

Many of the young Black conservatives are concerned about healthcare, education in the Black community, and illegal immigration affecting Black-owned businesses.

“Our Black-owned businesses are turning into taco stands overnight because of illegal immigrants,” said one attendee.

Celebrities and politicians expected to speak at the Summit include Donald Trump, Jr., conservative activist Candace Owens, Larry Elder, actress Stacey Dash, Dr. Ben Carson, and Christian conservative Melissa @sweetweetertot2, whose Twitter account was reinstated on Thursday.

Nigerian musician Seun Kuti nominated for Grammy Awards

Oluseun Anikulapo Kuti commonly known as Seun Kuti, a Nigerian singer and son of Nigerian music legend, Fela Kuti has been nominated for Grammy awards in the best world music album category.

Sharing news of his Grammy awards nomination, Seun Kuti wrote;

All my Grammy voting friends. Y’all know the vibes

See the post below:

This is coming after the singer called out Kanye West for saying he has the spirit of Fela in him, also extended the blast to all Fela wannabes.

According to Seun Kuti, all Fela went through in the hands of the Nigerian army, he had his family as his support.

He added that Fela’s legacy is his family’s responsibility to protect and nurture and not that of Fela wannabes.

He wrote;

Whatever you think Fela went through, he went through with his family. We were his rock. My mother used to tell me bed time stories about all the scars on her. My step mum, Najite was the first person the soldiers saw in kalakuta, she was swimming, they picked her up by her head from the pool and broke her neck!! My mother had a broken bayonet stitched into her and she couldn’t walk for 18months. The amount of state sanctioned violence I have seen in my life as a child. When I was 9 I saw the cops shot and kill one of my dads boys in front of shrine and just left him there for nothing. Fela tried to protect us but u can’t protect anyone from that! You know these fucking cops would come to our house and just shoot up the place at least 2ice a week? Do y’all know that? Or u think this is just play play? See Fela’s music is a gift for the world and everyone is welcome but our legacy is ours alone, to protect and nurture. Y’all fakers stay waaaaay back. This isn’t your space.

''N30k minimum wage not feasible even if public office holders sacrifice their pay'' - Femi Adesina

Special Assistant to President Buhari on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, says the N30, 000 minimum wage the leadership of the Nigerian Labour Congress NLC is clamouring for at the moment, is not feasible even if all public office holders are asked to contribute their monthly income for this purpose.

Adesina who was a guest on Channels TV today to speak on national issues, was asked to speak on the lingering faceoff between the Federal government and NLC over an increase in minimum wage.

He said it is unfortunate that some state governors cannot pay the N18, 000 minimum wage at the moment and so asking them to pay N 30, 000 as minimum wage is quite ridiculous.“So if they can’t pay N18,000 and labour is asking for N30,000 and they refuse to come lower, there may be a stalemate which will not be good for the country.

I think in the spirit of negotiation, labour should not insist on N30,000'' he said Asked if the political class “especially members of the All Progressives Congress (APC)” agreeing to reduce their salaries will not make the new minimum wage demand possible, Adesina replied“I doubt. Even if they decide not to collect anything, it still doesn’t take care of N30,000 minimum wage; it doesn’t. Maybe if the members of the national assembly concede part of their salaries and allowances, it can make a dent on minimum wage.

But other office holders dont earn anything outrageous.”The Labour Unions have agreed to go on a national strike on November 6th if the government fails to adopt the N30, 000 m,inimum wage.

Full text of President Buhari’s speech in Rivers

President Muhammadu Buhari was in Rivers State on Thursday to commission the new International Wing at the Port Harcourt airport.

Here is the full statement of the President’s speech.

I am very pleased to formally commission the new International Terminal of the Port Harcourt Airport, Omagwa today. This ceremony represents a significant landmark for International air travelers, particularly from the South-South region, and the entire Country.

2. You will recall that after opening the major airport terminals in the country in the late 70s and early 80s, not much was added to increase the passenger handling capacity of these facilities by successive administrations.

3. Following the large increase in the national population with consequent surge in air passenger traffic, the capacity of the airport terminals became woefully inadequate to cater for the increase in passenger traffic.

4. Although, palliative measures were periodically carried out, the facilities were fast giving-in to the effects of wear and tear. It therefore became necessary to take decisive action to ensure our terminals meet minimum international standards for the travelling public.

5. The Federal Government responded to a global trend in which aviation became a catalyst for economic growth as a result of massive and speedy movement of persons, goods and services in a safe and secure manner.

6. As part of the infrastructure renewal program, the construction of four new international terminals at Abuja, Lagos, Port Harcourt and Kano airports was embarked upon by the Federal Government with a view to modernising the aging airport infrastructure to meet global aviation standards and improved service delivery in tandem with best international practices.

7. At the presentation of the 2017 Budget to the National Assembly, I promised to upgrade and develop Nigeria’s transport, power and health infrastructure, and complete a number of stalled infrastructure projects.

8. These include construction of new terminals at the country’s five major airports; numerous major road projects; key power transmission projects; and the completion of the Kaduna – Abuja as well as Itakpe to Warri Railway lines.

9. Nigeria having an advantageous central location within the sub-region and our desire to develop into a regional air transportation hub must upgrade its facilities to take advantage of its assets. The recent decision by the Federal Government to remove Value Added Tax from domestic air transportation is in line with global best practices.

10. This will make air travel more affordable and subsequently lead to the creation of jobs by the air transport service value chain as well as increase revenues for government.

11. Today’s commissioning is an example of Government’s deliberate policy to sustain the development of infrastructure for economic growth in all geo-political zones of the country.

12. I, therefore, wish to commend the people of the South-South Region and airport users for their patience during the period of construction.

13. Let me also praise the efforts of the Federal Ministry of Transportation, particularly Aviation, the Chinese government and the China Exim Bank for their financial support and the various roles they played leading to the successful completion of this project. I also wish to say well done to the contractor, Messrs CCECC for timely service delivery.

14. It is therefore with great pleasure that I commission the new International Terminal building of Port Harcourt International Airport.

Thank you and God bless the Federal Republic.

Nobody will remove Oshiomhole, we will stop it – Senator Omo-Agege

Senator Ovie Omo-Agege representing Central senatorial district, Delta State, in the Senate, Thursday, declared that nobody would remove Comrade Adams Oshiomhole as National Chairman of the party, saying: “We will resist it and it will fail.”

Besides, he stated that Oshiomhole enjoys the support of President Muhammadu Buhari and power brokers in the Presidency, while a Reconciliation Committee comprising leaders of the party would soon move out to dialogue with those still upset over the outcome of the primaries.

Senator Omo-Agege, who spoke to Vanguard amid report that stakeholders of the party in the South-South, the home base of Oshiomhole, have begun search for his replacement, dismissed the move.

However, ex-APC presidential aspirant, Alhaji Mumakai Unagha, who spoke to journalists, confirmed the hunt for “an acceptable and mature candidate” to replace Oshiomhole.

Unagha asserted: “Gentlemen of the press, following the clarion call on the National Chairman of the All Progressive Congress (APC) Adams Oshomhole to resign, we, APC stakeholders, in the South-South have commenced search for his replacement.”

“Oshiomhole is no longer a saleable candidate, he is a bad product that cannot be hawked in the public market nor advertised.

“Whether the position of the national chairman will still come from Edo State for now I do not know as the immediate past chairman, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun as well as the current chairman are all from Edo state

“We are working within the time frame to come out with an acceptable and mature candidate that would savage the party and deliver it to victory in the 2019 general election.

“We, the stakeholders wish to assure APC faithful across board that hope is not lost yet as the party will come out stronger and deliver President Muhammadu Buhari in the forth coming election.

“We call on the national chairman to respect the wishes of the people by resigning since the clarion calls is also a no confidence vote on him.

“We also call on President Muhammadu Buhari to save the situation to relieve the chairman of the party so that he can face his corruption case or cases that are pending in courts. APC is a party of integrity and genuine change. APC is a party of integrity and genuine change,” Unagha stated.

Dismissing Unagha, Senator Omo-Agege said: “I am not aware of any move to replace Oshiomhole and to the extent that there is any such move, it will fail. It will fail because I know that Oshiomhole enjoys the confidence of Mr. President, he enjoys the confidence of who is who in the Presidency.”

“Yes there are lots of agitations and allegations flowing from the primaries. You will imagine that as a family that there are bound to be problems after the primary, it is the ability of the party to address the post-primary challenges that makes it strong or otherwise.

“ I know that a Reconciliation Committee is about to be put in place and leaders are going to be reach out to those who are aggrieved, but I can tell you there is no legitimate move to go after Oshiomohle’s seat.

“I repeat, to the extent that it is being contemplated, we will resist it and it will fail. We are talking seriously and you are talking about people who do not matter in the party. For the major stakeholders, there is nothing like that, we are satisfied with the stewardship of Comrade Oshiohole.

“As I said earlier, yes there is bound to be agitation in every primary, it does not matter who is superintending over the primary, even if you bring an angel to conduct it, there will still be challenges, once again, it is the ability of Oshiomhole to rise above the post primary challenges and addresses it that matters.

“But I can tell you any move from the South-South or anywhere to remove Oshiomhole from that seat will be resisted and it will fail,” he added.

Don’t go to courts if you want peace, says CJN

The Chief Justice of Nigeria, CJN, Walter Onnoghen has said that any party to any dispute who desires peace should not approach the courts.

Justice Onnoghen also said that arbitration and Alternative Dispute Resolution, are the true means by which parties to a dispute can get peace.

Witness insists Obasanjo’s in-law forged oil contract documents

He said the courts determine the rights, liabilities and responsibilities of parties to a dispute but does not ensure peace because, according to him, the judiciary system is not designed to ensure peace.

Justice Onnoghen made the statement on Thursday at the ongoing 2018 Annual Conference and Gala Nite of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIArb), Nigeria Branch.

According to him, “Having experienced both sides of formal court system and the traditional arbitration, I can assure you and I want you to know that the judicial system is not designed to ensure peace. If you want peace, don’t go to courts.”

He said the court does not provide peace to parties in dispute because, in court, “you are either right or wrong.

We determine the rights, liabilities and responsibilities of parties. It is not designed to ensure peace.”

He said parties in a dispute case who adopt settlements outside of courts follow “no formalities, you are free and when you are free, there is understanding.”

Reelecting Buhari will ensure return of power to south-west in 2023 -Fashola

Babatunde Fashola, minister of power, works and housing, has urged the people of south-west to vote for President Muhammadu Buhari in the 2019 elections to guarantee a return of power to the region in 2023.

The minister said this at a special town hall meeting on infrastructure organised by the ministry information and the National Orientation Agency (NOA).

Lai Mohammed, minister of information, led Fashola, Rotimi Amaechi, minister of transportation; and Suleiman Adamu, minister of water resources, to the town hall meeting.

Fashola said besides, the massive investments by the Buhari administration on infrastructure across the country and in the south-west particularly, the region would benefit politically by voting for Buhari.

The minister, who spoke in Yoruba, said: “Do you know that power is rotating to the south-west after the completion of Buhari’s tenure if you vote for him in 2019?

“A vote for Buhari in 2019, means a return of power to the south-west in 2023. I am sure you will vote wisely.”

On the performance of the administration, Fashola said that the government had kept its promises to Nigerians in the three key areas of security, fighting corruption and rebuilding the economy.

He said the essence of the town hall meeting was to showcase what the administration had done in three and half years.

IGP summons top Akwa Ibom PDP leaders over ‘destruction of Buhari’s campaign materials’

Ibrahim Idris, inspector-general of police, has summoned some Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leaders in Akwa Ibom state to Abuja over the violence which led to the destruction of some campaign materials of President Muhammadu Buhari’s reelection bid.

Supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the PDP clashed in Uyo, Akwa Ibom state capital, earlier in the month.

Ini Okpodio, chairman of the APC in the state, was said to have written a petition to the police over the issue, prompting the invitation by Idris.

Among those the IGP invited are Idongesit Nkanga, campaign coordinator of the reelection of Udom Emmanuel, governor of the state; Paul Ekpo, chairman of PDP in the state; Onofiok Luke, speaker of the state house of assembly; Iniobong Essien, commissioner for environment; and Fubara Duke, senior special assistant to the governor on security.

In a chat, Charles Udoh, commissioner for information, criticised the action of the police, wondering why APC members in the state were not also invited.

A top official of the Akwa Ibom government, who craved anonymity, alleged that the invitation is part of the plot to take over Akwa Ibom in 2019.

“The issue here borders on destruction of Buhari’s Presidential campaign billboards in Uyo, Akwa Ibom state , a charge PDP and the environment commissioner have denied and clarified,” he said in a statement.

“The general plank for the invitation, according to the police, openly revolve around instigation to cause violence. A security agency established by law has invited us so we have to honour. We obey laws here. It started with the billboard issue and the IGP sent a team from Abuja that investigated and even detained the commissioner for Environment for no just cause.

“The APC conducted their governorship primaries in this State and three persons were killed, no petitions, no investigations, no arrest, no prosecution. As a fallout from the primaries, a police station was burnt in Okobo Local Government Area, and other sundry but weighty infractions, yet the police looked at the left and ignored the incidences at the right even with photo evidence and outcry.”

Jimoh Moshood, police spokesman, was not available for comment as of the time this report was filed. He neither answered his calls nor replied the text message sent.

I’m very disappointed in the Nigerian media -Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari says he is disappointed in the Nigerian media for failing to highlight the progress of his administration in the agricultural sector.

Buhari said this at a dinner he hosted for young political appointees at the presidential villa, Abuja, on Wednesday.

The president said under him, agriculture had become so attractive that those who cannot get white-collar job have taken up farming and are reaping the reward.

He added that his government had reduced importation of rice by 90 percent.
“I’m very disappointed with the Nigerian press. They didn’t give this government the credit of the `go back to land programme’,” he said.

“We have cut down the importation of rice by at least 90 percent… I foresaw our problem in agriculture and did the right thing and today, people are much better. In terms of unemployment, our able-bodied persons that do not have education and can’t get white-collar jobs, went back to till the land and today, none of them is regretting it.”

He condemned the rush by some Nigerians, especially the youth, in search of greener pastures abroad, saying his administration is determined to transform the country.

He said: “If people don’t feel good about this country, let them go and find out what is happening elsewhere but we are going to stay here and we are going to salvage this country together.

“I have gone through a lot, I have been Governor, I was in charge of our petroleum sector for over three years, I was Head of State and now I have come without the uniform and have visited each of the 774 Local government Areas in this country.

“The intention of this administration is to do the infrastructure and give education and healthcare to our people especially the poor.”

Senator Ita Giwa dumps APC for PDP, gives reasons

Barely a year after moving to the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Florence Ita Giwa, on Thursday, announced her return to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

In a statement, Ita Giwa called the main opposition her “original home”.

According to her, she had not seen the kind of confusion she met in APC in spite of the kind of forthright President (Muhammdu Buhari), the party produced in 2015.

“I cannot understand why out of sheer negligence party will not be able to present candidates for elections in several key states nationwide.

“I cannot understand how any party will have in its ranks popular and trusted leaders who can, muster tremendous goodwill for the party and yet treats them with disdain.

“The experience of the supposed recent direct primaries was also a taste of sour experience where factional interests simply allocated figures and manipulated same as votes after shutting out other aspirants in the race,” Ita Giwa said.

She further called on her supporters to join her, as she returns to the PDP and ensure victory for the party at all levels

Buhari commissions new Terminal Building of the Port Harcourt International Airport(Photos)

President Muhammadu Buhari was in Rivers State on Thursday to commission the new Terminal Building of the Port Harcourt International Airport, Rivers State.

According to the President, that project t is a landmark not only for air travellers in the South South but nationally.

I commissioned the new International Terminal of the Port Harcourt Airport. A significant landmark for International air travellers, not just from the South South region, but also the entire Country.
We will continue to upgrade Nigeria’s transport and power infrastructure. Our intention in this administration is simple and clear: we will fix Nigeria’s infrastructure; we will improve the lives and living conditions of the poor, through our emphasis on agriculture and social investment. We will invest in the people of Nigeria.

The president said that the common wealth of the nation, for a longtime only benefitted a greedy minority. Buhari noted that though there were years were crude oil sale boomed, it didn’t translate into development for the country.

For a long time Nigeria’s wealth was used to benefit only a greedy minority. Years of high oil revenues failed to translate into improvements in infrastructure or quality of living.

He further stated that his administration will not follow the path of its predecessors.

Our administration was elected to break free from that past; we will be steadfast in this mission.

STATEMENT BY PUBLISHER/EDITOR-IN-CHIEF OF DAILY NIGERIAN AT THE INVESTIGATIVE HEARING OF KANO STATE HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY ON GOV. ABDULLAHI GANDUJE’S BRIBE-TAKING VIDEOS PUBLISHED BY THE ONLINE NEWSPAPER I, Jaafar Jaafar, am a member of the Board of Directors of Penlight Media Limited, the publishers of DAILY NIGERIAN do hereby submit this statement in answer to the invitation extended to me by the Investigation Panel of the Kano State House of Assembly. Introduction

1. The DAILY NIGERIAN made a series of publications pertaining to the receipt of several videos of His Excellency the Executive Governor of Kano State, Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje collecting of bribe/kickbacks from some contractors in Kano State.

2. Consequent upon the publications, we received an invitation dated October 18, 2018 with reference number KNHA/ADM/VOL .I/04 from the Kano State House of Assembly requesting us to appear before it in the conduct of its constitutional functions as contained in Section 129 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

3. The invitation letter also requested that we submit a written statement containing the incidents pertaining to the investigation.

4. Below is the narration of our understanding of the events as it relates to the videos.

The videos

5. More than two years ago, a contractor friend of mine complained to me that the governor had been receiving kickbacks, ranging from 15 to 25 percent, for every project executed in the state from contractors.

6. We then agreed to plant spy cameras on his kaftan lapel so that he can capture the brazen act in hard evidence. He captured at least 15 clips, nine of which fully showed the governor’s face, body and hands collecting bundles of dollars.

7. Before DAILY NIGERIAN publishes stories, pictures or videos on its website (www.dailynigerian.com), the editors subject them to rigors of verification to establish their authenticity or otherwise.

The video showed the governor receiving bribe from a contractor in foreign currency specifically the monies were United States Dollar denominated.
