Tragic bottom implant girl thought having illegal injection would make her a hip hop star

  • Dancer Claudia Aderotimi believed 'bigger booty' would make her famous
  • She was dumped from music video for wearing bottom-padded trousers
  • Police quiz woman who carried out the procedure
  • Procedure used 'industrial' silicone and cost up to £2,000
  • Surgeon fled hotel where Miss Aderotimi had op after she fell sick

The British student who died after jetting to America for an illegal 'butt enhancement' operation thought having a shapelier backside would make her a Hip Hop star.
Claudia Aderotimi, 20, believed a 'bigger booty' would help in her quest to appear in more music videos, her distraught friends have claimed.
One even revealed the aspiring dancer - stagename Carmella London - was dropped from one shoot because directors discovered she had been wearing padded trousers to help enlarge her bottom.
Talent scout Tee Ali, who met the university student when she filmed a video, told The Sun: 'She was a dancer and choreographer.
'The problem was she didn't have no butt, and she wanted a butt.
'She went to audition for one video shoot wearing fake booty pants and she got all the attention.
'But when they found out it was fake she didn't get asked back.'
He described her as 'victim' of social pressure to be perfect and thought a larger bottom would make her famous.'
The Thames Valley University student developed chest pains and struggled for breath 12 hours after she had the illegal silicone injections at a budget hotel.
She was taken to hospital but could not be saved.
A preliminary examination found the silicone filler had leaked into her bloodstream, leading to heart failure.
American detectives are investigating whether she was treated with cheap ‘industrial’ silicone, normally used as a sealant, rather than medical-grade material used in breast implant surgery.
She was dropped from one shoot because directors discovered she had been wearing padded trousers to help enlarge her bottom.
Victim: Claudia Aderotimi, 20, died of a heart attack after having buttock-enhancing injections
CARMELLA CLAUDIYAH also known as Claudia Aderotimi - A British student has died of a heart attack after travelling to the U.S. for an operation to give her more shapely buttocks.

It was not the first time Miss Aderotimi had had the procedure.
She is believed to have been treated in November and the latest injection on Monday may have been a ‘top-up’ procedure.
Accompanied by three friends, she travelled from London to Philadelphia for the treatment, thought to have been an early present to herself for her 21st birthday, which was due later this month.

But a day later she was dead.
Buttock enhancement surgery is becoming popular in the U.S., among women who aspire to the shapely curves of Jennifer Lopez, Beyonce and singer Nicki Minaj.
Minaj has become almost as famous for her posterior as for her voice, and rumours have spread across the web that the Massive Attack singer underwent surgery or uses pads to boost her bum, especially on urban gossip sites such as Bossip and mediatakeout.com. She, however denies having had surgery.
The illusion of a larger backside has become increasingly more fashionable among young women since the rise of the 'Hip Hop Honey' phenomenon.
A bigger behind has become almost a prerequisite for any aspiring dancer wanting to make it on the music video scene.
But the hip hop industry has come under fire for objectifying women in music videos where dancers - or Hip Hop Honeys - chasing fame can often leave themselves open to financial and sexual exploitation.
And in their desperation to beat off the competition, many resort to surgery to get ahead.
'Top up' procedures are only legal when the silicone gel is contained and sealed within an implant. But illegal injections of the material are also widely available from unlicensed back-room medics.
Last night one expert said having a direct injection of silicone gel – long outlawed in the U.S. and Britain, even for breast surgery – is ‘like playing Russian roulette’.
One of Miss Aderotimi’s friends is said to have had the same procedure but survived. Experts warned the silicone could still prove lethal for her in the future if not removed.
Police have searched the homes of the two women ‘doctors’ who injected the silicone and are investigating whether they are part of an organised gang who lure the unwary over the internet.

A surgeon gets ready to perform a plastic surgery on a woman (posed by model). A British woman has died in America after undergoing an illegal buttock-enhancement surgery Young women are taking enormous risks in pursuit of a smoother, rounder bottom, an expert said yesterday.
Paul Harris, consultant plastic surgeon at the Royal Marsden hospital in London, warned against going overseas for such treatments.
‘Bottom augmentation is becoming more popular and originated in South America, in places like Brazil,’ he said.
‘More and more people are coming forward in the UK for this procedure.’
Last year a former Miss Argentina, Solange Magnano, died at 38 after a buttocks-enhancement procedure at a medical clinic in Buenos Aires.
Mr Harris said he had dealt with two patients who suffered problems after receiving silicone jabs overseas.
‘The problems are two fold,’ he said. ‘Firstly, if you use a low volume amount of silicone it can promote rejection – the body trying to ward it off. That causes a long-term abscess which can damage the surrounding tissue.
‘Elsewhere in the world it has been reported to cause problems with pulmonary embolism, a blood clot to the lungs, which may have happened in this most recent case.’
The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery says the safety of the use of liquid injectable silicone for cosmetic purposes is controversial, and should not be used outside legitimately approved clinical trials.
Last night more than a dozen distraught friends and family gathered at Miss Aderotimi’s home in Hackney, East London.
Her sister Vivian was in tears as she said: ‘We found out on Tuesday. We’re still in shock. We need to think about what we have to do.’
Miss Aderotimi’s mother, a healthcare assistant at Homerton Hospital in East London, said she was too upset to speak about her daughter’s death.
A neighbour said: ‘We are struggling to cope with what happened. One girl died and one girl lived.’
Miss Aderotimi and her friends flew out to the U.S. on Saturday.
She and another woman checked into room 425 at the Hampton Inn hotel, Philadelphia, a mile from the city’s airport, while her two other friends went to a party in New York. They paid around £100 for the room.
Miss Aderotimi had the buttock injections on Monday – thought to have cost around £1,300 – while her friend had the same procedure along with a hip enhancement treatment.
The ‘doctor’ who injected the silicone left soon after and was not there when Miss Aderotimi began complaining of chest pains.
Paramedics were called to the hotel and she was taken to Mercy Fitzgerald hospital where she died 90 minutes after being admitted on Tuesday.
Miss Aderotimi was born in London of Nigerian parents. Yesterday detectives raided the home of the woman they believed set up the illegal operation.
Computer files, emails and telephone records were seized from the house in Bergen County, New Jersey.
Emails from Miss Aderotimi arranging the procedure were among the material seized, but police said no formal arrests had yet been made.
Dr Rajiv Grover, president-elect of the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons, said: ‘Buttock augmentation isn’t a very commonly done procedure here, which is probably why these girls have resorted to going abroad.
'If correctly done, it involves implanting solid silicone implants into the buttock just like breast .

Mubarak: World's Richest Man?

Napolitano-Mubarak
Hosni Mubarak may be the richest man in the world—by far—if reports are correct. The Guardian reported that Middle East experts put the Egyptian leader’s family fortune at some $70 billion, which the New York Post notes is quite a bit more than the riches of both Mexican businessman Carlos Slim Helu and Bill Gates, whose fortunes clock in at $53.5 billion and $53 billion, respectively, according to Forbes.
The money is held in foreign bank accounts as well as tied up in real estate in New York (whose whereabouts remain a tightly kept secret, notes the Post), Beverly Hills, London, and the Red Sea coast. Mubarak has benefited from hugely profitable investments as president. “There was a lot of corruption in this regime and stifling of public resources for personal gain,” says an expert. But other Middle Eastern leaders may boast comparable fortunes of between $40 billion and $70 billion, a political science professor tells ABC NEWS.

Pictures From Bowling For Boobs Event.

Saturday 29th January 2011 at The Dome Entertainment center Abuja was the day many Nigerian celebrities used their celebrity status to raise funds and awareness for the fight against breast cancer.
The event is the brain child of STAND UP FOR CANCER NAIJA, an NGO focused on the fight against breast cancer. The red carpet was lit up by celebrities like Uti, Ini Edo, Uche Jombo, Julius Agwu, Bryan Okwara, Coco Couture, James Lulu (bag designer) and many more.
Celebrities like Ini Edo, Uche Jombo and Uti Nwachukwu came with their team of bowlers to contest against each other in a bowling game and the winner had to square up against the best of Abuja bowlers, team uche won the bowling game.

When asked what her take was on the fight against cancer Uche Jombo said cancer had been happening to people she never knew until she met the lady that inspired her movie "Holding Hope"

“What we came here to do today is something real. Do you know there are people in very remote areas that when they examine their breast and see a lump, they’ll say it’s something spiritual; it’s the devil, but in reality it’s a cancer lump. Such women are the ones we’re really trying to reach out to”

Ini Edo on her part said cancer is a disease that takes away from every woman and needs to be stopped.
Mrs. Ada, a breast cancer survivor spoke on the need for all, including men to constantly examine themselves for possible traces of lumps as that remain the best and easiest way to detect early signs of the disease.
Caleb Egwuenu the Project Director of the Stand Up To Cancer Naija the host organisation talked on how more awareness is needed in the grassroot, he reiterated the fact that those in the grassroot are they reason the event Bowling for Boobs was organised.

In her vote of thanks, the Media Director of Stand Up To Cancer Naija Ms Debie Magnut said she was so happy that the celebrities took time out of their busy schedule to attend the occasion. She called on more celebrities to join in the campaign which will be held subsequently in Lagos, Accra, Nairobi, Johannesburg, London, Calgary and Houston.

Nigerian Man With 86 Wives to Sue INEC

The celebrated polygamist, Pa Abubakar Masaba, is heading for a showdown with the Independent National Electoral Commission and the police following allegations that members of his family, numbering over 5,000 were denied registration by suspected thugs in the just concluded voter registration exercise.

Our correspondent gathered that suspected thugs allegedly thwarted efforts by members of the Masaba's family to participate in the voter registration exercise at a registration unit in Bida Local Government Area of the state.

Masaba is reported to have 86 wives.

It was learnt that the thugs specifically prevented INEC officials from registering the Masaba family and that security operatives allegedly refused to come to his rescue.

The lawyer to the family, Mr. Shehu Jubril, told  correspondents in Minna, Niger State, that over 10 hoodlums frustrated efforts of the Masabas to register.

He alleged that the thugs, led by one Gimba, created pandemonium in a registration unit close to Masaba's residence as they stormed the area beating and wounding members of the family who had queued up to register.

He said the hoodlums overpowered officials of INEC and prevented them from registering Masaba's family members.

He claimed that about nine members of the family were wounded by the attackers, lamenting that despite complaints lodged by Masaba to the police area commander, nobody was arrested in connection with the incident.

He accused the police of connivance and said Masaba had concluded plans to seek redress in court.

He said the development amounted to a breach of fundamental human rights and assault.

“The recent interview granted by the area commander in a local newspaper has however indicated that police have taken sides on the matter as he went on saying that the family has no business registering at their own Masaba 'A' polling unit”, he said.

When  correspondents contacted the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Mr. Richard Oguche, he said he was yet to receive the report.

He said the district police officers would brief the command on developments in their various areas on Monday (today).

Also, INEC state Public Relations Officer, Alhaji Abdulmalik Wase, claimed ignorance of the development and said he knew nothing about Masaba and his family.

CITY PEOPLE HONOURS EMEM ISONG!

emem_2

It was a night to remember as Nollywood gathered to celebrate with their 'Big Sister' in the industry as she celebrates 15 years as a writer/producer in the business! I have never seen so much Star power in one room as several A list stars like Stella Damasus, Desmond Elliot, Uche Jombo, Ini Edo, Stephanie Okereke, Omotola Jalade Ekeinde, Monalisa Chinda, Zik Zulu Okafor,Julius Agwu and many from the corporate world came to felicitate, rejoice and celebrate with an Icon that has given so much and done so much in the industry, Nollywood.

But then, such is the clout and influence that Emem wields and many came up to reminisce and talk about their first experience working with her. Several  attested that it was she that gave them their first break in movies or made their first commercially successful film through her.  For the first time we heard celebrities tell how they had it rough and tough climbing the rungs in the industry, with her. Many lauded the fact that she was one of the few that always portrayed women as strong in her movies and applauded that she had created alot of opportunities for them in the industry. The event was put together by entertainment and lifestyle magazine, City People led by the magnanimous and unassuming Publisher, Mr Seye Kehinde  and one has to commend the organisation for doing this.  Often times people see the stars not the star-makers, so it is good once in a while to celebrate someone that has been such an inspiration to many.  Enjoy pix from the event!
