Ex-Minister, Mike Aondoakaa, Sues US Government Over Visa Revocation‎.

Former Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Michael Aondoakaa, has sued the American government, seeking explanation for the revocation of his U.S. non-immigrant visa.

The U.S. government had revoked Mr Aondoakaa's visa and those of members of his family soon after he left office due to his alleged link to corruption.

An unnamed U.S. diplomat, who spoke to Punch Newspapers at the time, confirmed that the former minister's visa was revoked under Proclamation 7750 that empowers the U.S. authorities to bar anyone with links to corruption from entering the U.S.

However, further details about the revocation were not disclosed.

The former minister filed a case against the State Department after a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request he filed was turned down.

He then approached a United States District Court asking it to compel the U.S. to release documents related to the revocation of his visa to him, according to court papers.

The suit, filed in a US district Court, District of New Jersey, by Mr Aondoakaa's U.S. attorney, Thomas Moseley, was instituted few weeks after the ex-minister denied he was banned from entering the U.S.

"I have not been banned from entering the United States and I have my visa intact," Mr Aondoakaa had said in a statement released on June 26, 2010.

"Secondly, none of my relatives has a student visa to the United States as claimed by some publications. Therefore, the US Government cannot revoke what they did not issue."

However, the court documents shows that on August 10, 2010, Mr Moseley filed the FOIA suit against the US Department of State asking for the release of documents showing reasons why his client's visa was revoked.

"This is an action under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) as amended, 5 U.S.C & 552 et seq. to enjoin the defendant from withholding certain records sought by the plaintiff including document relevant to the reasons for which his non-immigrant visa was revoked," the court documents read.

However, the Department of State did not provide the details sought by Mr Aondoakaa after the expiration of 20 days statutory period for the documents to be provided.

Anxiety As Chime Travels Again.

Anxiety as Chime travels again
There was apprehension in Enugu yesterday over the possibility that Governor Sullivan Chime may have travelled again to Europe as a result of his health challenges.
An Enugu Government House source told our correspondent that Chime went to Abuja but was not sure if he had left the country. Attempts to reach the governor's media aides proved abortive as they all refused to react to the question sent through text messages or pick their calls.
The Special Assistant to the governor on Media, Afam Okereke, promised to call back to answer the question but he did not before press time. But responding to the question, a commissioner, Joe Mmamel, wondered if Chime was prohibited from travelling out of the country.
Mmamel disclosed that the governor presided over the State Executive Council meeting this week.
Chime had admitted that he had nose cancer and stayed four and a half months in London for treatment. during an interaction with journalists after he returned to the country last month, the governor frowned at the speculations about his health status, saying that anybody could fall sick.

Yvonne Okoro's Romcom 'Contract' Making A Splash In West Africa & The UK (Watch The Trailer)

Scheduled to open in Nigerian cinemas this Friday is a new romantic comedy titled Contract, directed by Shirley Frimpong Manso, and starring Ghanaian actress Yvonne Okoro, South African actor Hlomla Dandala, and Nigerain actor Joseph Benjamins.
The film's plot, which is described as an unsuspecting rom-com with unusual twists, is detailed as follows:
Successful Businessman Peter Popolampo is the ultimate alpha male. He is 40 years old, rich, and a staunch bachelor. Despite his mother’s persistent attempt to find him a woman, Peter sticks to his rule of non-committal casual dates, freedom and controlling his life until a yearning to have a child arises. In his quest to find the woman who will take his money, have his child and disappear, Peter begins a roller coaster, contracted relationship with Abena Boateng, a crude but clever local girl who is anything but impressed with Peter’s affluence.

South African actor Dandala stars as Peter, while Ghanaian actress Okoro plays Abena. By the way, Okoro self-produced the film, which premiered in Accra, Ghana on December 28, 2012, to what was reported to have been an impressive turnout by audiences.
It also debuted in London (at the London Cinemas Showcase Beckton & Peckham Plex) just last week, where it's expected to run through early April.

5 African Diaspora-Interest Films That May Premiere At The Cannes Film Festival

The 2013 edition of the Cannes Film Festival, which takes place in May.
While we still have about 3 weeks before the festival unveils its full lineup lets take a look at what African Diaspora films just might be selected to debut in competition, at the world's most prestigious film festival this year - films that we've been following on the internet for the last year or 2, that have the strongest chances of being included in the festival's full lineup, once it's announced.
The 12-day festival runs from May 15 to 26,

1 - Twelve Years A Slave:
An absolute no-brainer as far I'm concerned. Steve McQueen's 3rd feature which stars a rather impressive cast of actors, including Chiwetel Ejiofor, Michael Fassbender, Ruth Negga, Adepero Oduye, Alfre Woodard, Lupita Nyong'o, Paul Dano, Benedict Cumberbatch, Scoot McNairy, Garret Dillahunt, Brad Pitt, Michael K. Williams, Paul Giamatti, Sarah Paulson and others. No word yet on a release date for the film; but I'd be really surprised if it didn't debut at Cannes this year, en route to other top-tier film festivals before opening in USA theaters in the early fall. I expect it to be an awards season favorite, especially in key roles, both in front of and behind the camera.

2 - Grisgris:

Chadian filmmaker Mahamat Saleh-Haroun's follow-up to his last work, the critically-acclaimed drama Un Homme Qui Crie (aka A Screaming Man). The film was shot last fall, and, given that Saleh-Haroun isn't a stranger to Cannes (3 of his last 5 films all premiered at Cannes) I fully expect that Grisgris will continue that trend, and debut at this year's Cannes edition. The film centers on Grisgris, a 25 year old boy with dreams of becoming a dancer despite the fact that he's paralyzed from the waist down. His dreams are shattered when his uncle falls seriously ill. To save him, he decides to work for petrol smugglers. Not quite the same father/son relationship theme that seems to run through his work (see Abouna-2002, Daratt-2006, A Screaming Man-2010), but still seemingly very much in that similar relational vein. The film stars Soulémane Démé, Mariam Monory, Cyril Guei, and Marius Yelolo (who's worked with Haroun on at least 2 other past films).

3 - Half Of A Yellow Sun:

last month, it was rumored that the film would premiere at FESPACO, but those rumors turned out to be false. And given that it skipped Berlin, I think this is primed for a Cannes debut. The film adaptation of celebrated author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie's Orange Prize-winning novel, Half Of A Yellow Sun, is directed by playwright Biyi Bandele (his feature film directorial debut), with an international cast that includes Thandie Newton, John Boyega, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Dominic Cooper, Anika Noni Rose, Joseph Mawle and Genevieve Nnaji. If both Twelve Years A Slave and this film make the Cannes selection list, Chiwetel Ejiofor will be attending the festival with 2 films in which he stars. Both films should be released in theaters (USA) this year, so, either way, it should be a big year for Mr Ejiofor, who does have at least one project on the horizon.

4 - It's a tie!

I'm anticipating that The Weinstein Company will premiere one of two films they recently acquired: either Idris Elba's Nelson Mandela biopic, Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom; or Lee Daniels' White House drama, The Butler. The former is directed by Justin Chadwick, and co-stars Naomie Harris as Mandela's wife, Winnie, in a film based on Nelson Mandela's autobiography of the same name, which highlights his early life, coming of age, education and 27 years in prison. The film also features South African actors Tony Kgoroge, Riaad Moosa, Zolani Mkiva, Jamie Bartlett, Lindiwe Matshikiza, Deon Lotz and Terry Pheto. As for the latter project, which we've covered quite extensively, The Butler has a loaded cast that includes Forest Whitaker, David Oyelowo, John Cusack, Alan Rickman, Jane Fonda, Melissa Leo,Liev Schreiber, Jesse Williams, Mariah Carey, Yaya DaCosta, and many more. Music for the film is being composed by the legendary Quincy Jones. The film is scripted to cover several decades in the life of Eugene Allen, the White House butler who served many presidents. So I expect one of these 2 projects to make the Cannes cut. The Weinstein Company could also certainly screen Fruitvale there as well - another black film they acquired earlier this year. But Cannes likes its world premieres, and since Fruitvale has already screened at the Sundance Film Festival, I wouldn't expect it to also screen in competition (the key words here) at Cannes as well. Although they might screen it out of competition.

5 - Belle:

British actor/writer/director/producer Amma Asante's period drama about the trials and tribulations of a mixed-race girl, in the 1700s, stars Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Miranda Richardson, Tom Wilkinson, Sarah Gadon, Sam Claflin, and Matthew Goode. The story takes place in the 1780s, and is based on a true story - specifically, the true story of Dido Belle, a mixed-race woman raised as an aristocrat in 18th-century England. It follows Belle, adopted into an aristocratic family, who faces class and color prejudices. As she blossoms into a young woman, she develops a relationship with a vicar's son who is an advocate for slave emancipation. Her full name was Dido Elizabeth Belle, born 1761, died 1804; she was the illegitimate daughter of John Lindsay (a white British Naval officer) and an African slave woman known only as Belle. Mbatha-Raw is of course playing the lead role. The project, which was developed and supported by the British Film Institute, also co-stars Tom Felton (from the Harry Potter movies), Sam Reid (playing Belle's love interest), James Norton and Penelope Wilton (Downton Abbey). It was announced last year that a spring debut was expected. Where could that spring debut be, but at Cannes in May?

Jay-Z Releases Romantic New Song About Beyonce .

Jay-Z loves his wife, and he wants the world to know it. He raps a pretty sick verse on Kendrick Lamar‘s new single “B*tch Don’t Kill My Vibe,” and he talks about being up in the clouds with Beyonce, so sweet.
Jay-Z On ‘B*tch Don’t Kill My Vibe’ With Kendrick Lamar

He raps on Kendrick’s song and he sounds awesome. But the lyrics are so touching and we just love it. How funny that Beyonce released her single “Bow Down B*tches” on the same day! She even talks about Jay too but says: “I’m not just his wife!”
Jay-Z’s Lyrics About Beyonce

[Verse 2 - Jay-Z]
Up in the clouds, me and my spouse
Rumors on the ground gettin’ too loud
Please turn them shits down, can’t hear myself think
Turbulence, shit, almost spilled my drink
In the White House with a mink
Running through that bitch like it’s my house
All up in the hall like a mall
Told you motherfuckers, all I do is ball
No, I don’t ‘member you, I don’t intend to empty my memory bank
It’s a million dollars in it, baby, Hilary Swank
Sittin’ next to Hilary smellin’ like dank
Presidental pardon, name one nigga out there harder than him
I’ll wait, I’ve been in my weight like 20 years straight
I’ve been on my vibe like 20 years straight
Don’t fuck up my high, don’t fuck up my high
Nights like this, I could fuck up a pie
Still keep straight and still be straight
Fall back, bitch, I got a lot on my plate
Don’t waste my breath
I don’t know how many moons a nigga got left
Back to this joint, smokin’ this shit like I’m tryna’ prove a point
I’m the highest, the highest title, numero uno
Kill my vibe, that’s your motherfuckin’ funeral

Beyonce Is The New Face Of H&M.

Beyonce HM campaign

Beyonce HM campaign

Clothing giant H&M has lowered its standards and named Beyonce as the new face of its Summer 2013 women’s line, H&M is introducing Beyonce in the new campaign as, “Beyoncé as Mrs. Carter in H&M.” Her images will be featured in print and television ads. The ads were shot in Nassau, Bahamas by photographers Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin.
Creative director Donald Schneider describes the campaign as an “epic fantasy, with glamour, drama, and also a sense of paradise.” Yes, “epic fantasy” is about right.

Beyonce who touched off a near riot by telling her fans to “Bow Down Bitches”, recorded a new song exclusively for the H&M campaign, titled, “Standing On The Sun”. H&M’s marketing department calls Beyonce “the ideal icon of women empowerment,” lol.
“I’ve always liked H&M’s focus on fun and affordable fashion. I really loved the concept we collaborated on to explore the different emotions of women represented by the four elements – fire, water, earth and wind. It was a beautiful shoot on a tropical island. It felt more like making a video than a commercial,” says Beyoncé, reading from a prepared script.
The track will be available for download sometime in May. But if it sounds anything like the horrific “Bow Down” demo, she might as well stick to modeling off-the-rack clothing because her recording career is over.

WOW!!! For a moment, you would like to think you are watching some soft porn flick, only recently we came across trailers of two (yet to be released) Nollywood movies online and I can categorically say that it is a sight to see, in as much as some find it pleasurable, the deplorable state of our movies can not be over-emphasized, ranging from poor camera angles to lack of directing abilities to poor script to below par actors and actresses, even up to the Soundtracks and Titles of most of our movies are nothing to write home about, as if these is not enough, they decided to up their game, this time, with the sex scenes, maybe as a result of the influence our Ghanaian brothers got on us.
ROOM 027 is a Nollywood movie set to be released anytime soon if not out, we can authoritatively confirm that it has been approved by the Nigerian Film and Video Censor Board for publishing.

Bold 5 Babes is another provocative nollywood movie also already approved by the film and censor board. one would like to think how much of an unbiased job the “Ogas at the top” are really doing. we were able to get the trailers available for download, download watch and share your thoughts on this, Naija which way?

Obama’s Car Breaks Down In Israel.

It was a tale of the unexpected yesterday when an armoured limousine supposed to be used to convey visiting US President Barack Obama in Israel broke down in Israel after being filled with the wrong type of fuel.

Israel's Channel 2 reports that the car had been waiting for the arrival of the entourage of the US leader when it was filled with diesel instead of petrol.

A replacement limousine had to be flown in from neighbouring Jordan, according to Maariv newspaper.

Obama, who is making his first visit to Israel since taking office, was welcomed at Ben Gurion airport, Tel Aviv, by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and President Shimon Peres.

It is believed the limousine had left the airport some two hours previously and had broken down on its way to Jerusalem where Obama was due later.

The owner of a local tow-truck company, Moti Matmon, told Britain's Daily Telegraph that the US Consulate in Jerusalem had asked him to recover the vehicle.

"They told me that this was Obama's car," he was quoted as saying. "They didn't say what had happened to it. They just said it had got stuck. Only the mechanic was there when I arrived. The driver had left in another car. The whole thing was very funny."

Matmon said the limousine was being repaired at a garage in Jerusalem.
