   The body of the late footballer was buried this afternoon amid tears from relatives, representatives of the Nigerian Football Federation, former colleagues and sympathisers.
The gangling striker, who was the toast of Nigerian football fans in his hey day, was buried in Ira near Offa, Kwara State according to Islamic rites.
A large crowd of mourners gathered for the funeral of the striker, who died on Friday at a private hospital in Ibadan aged 48.
Wrapped in a white apparel, Yekini’s corpse was buried on Saturday  amid sprinkling of water and leaves and wailing by mourners.He is survived by 3 wives and 3children.
May his soul rest in peace amen.           

It Will Be Difficult To Reclaim Lagos From ACN-Ambassador Musliu Obanikoro.

Nigeria’s former High Commissioner to Ghana and a stalwart of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Lagso State, Ambassador Musiliu Obanikoro, has said that the challenge to reclaim Lagos State from the Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, is very huge.
Obanikoro stated this during an interview with Political Platform at his Park View Estate residence, Ikoyi, Lagos, southwest Nigeria.
He said it was for that reason that he rconciled with Chief Olabode George, another stalwart of PDP in Lagos State.

Nigeria's Firstlady To Introduce Lady Taxi Drivers In Abuja Soon.

 

 

The First Lady, Mrs Patience Jonathan, says the FCT and its environ will notice a change in driving culture on the roads and highways soon with women as commercial drivers.

Jonathan made the statement in Abuja on Friday at the inauguration of Lady Chauffeur Training Scheme (LCTS) by the National Directorate of Employment (NDE) in collaboration with Women for Change and Development Initiative.

The collaboration is aimed at training female drivers, starting with 200 women.

``I am confident that when this first batch of 200 ladies complete their training, Abuja and its environs will notice a change in driving culture and attitude on the roads and highways.

Rashidi Yekini Is Dead.

Rashidi Yekini ,one of Africa's best Footballer has died,he died this evening after suffering from a prolonged illness.  Rashidi Yekini, 48 was allegedly in dire straits as regards his sanity. The two-time African footballer of the year was rumoured to be walking  the streets of Ibadan barefooted, a development that shocked many people who knew him from his active playing days. Rashidi  suffered delusions, a neurological illness which hinges on belief that is pathological and held, despite evidence to the contrary.
He was born on the 23 Oct 1963.We remember him for the goal he scored at the world cup.
May his gentle soul rest in peace.

The New York chapter of the National Association of Black Journalists will award the singer a first-place prize in arts and entertainment in its magazine category for a story Beyonce wrote for Essence magazine.The articled appeared in the magazine's July edition last year - and in it, she talks about how taking a break from music changed her life. Beyonce will get the award at a May event in New York.Beyonce has had a lot of news articles written about her. But now she is getting attention for a magazine piece that she has written.

Samsung Unveils Latest Galaxy Rival To iPhone

Samsung Electronics unveiled a new top-of-the-range Galaxy smartphone in London on Thursday, updating the most direct rival to Apple’s iPhone with a larger touch screen and more powerful processor.
The South Korean technology group, which overtook Finnish company Nokia as the world’s biggest cellphone maker earlier this year, said the new Galaxy SIII model would go on sale in some markets in late May and around the world from June.
Last week, Samsung reported a record $5.2 billion quarterly profit, boosted by Galaxy smartphone range whose sales outstripped the iPhone.
Samsung sold around 45 million smartphones in the first quarter and contributed most of its operating profit.
The new Galaxy SIII model will have a 4.8 inch touch screen, 8 megapixel camera and will use the latest version of Google’s Android software.
Analysts said the expected massive marketing campaign and features of the handset – billed as the official smartphone of the London 2012 Olympics- were likely enough to generate strong sales, but the launch left many of them unexcited.
“It is not an eye-catching device that will overwhelm consumers,” said IDC analyst Francisco Jeronimo.

A team of ultimate heroes such as Thor, Iron Man, Captain America and many more are all featured in the movie with an unexpected enemy that emerges to threaten global safety and security.
The premiere at the Ozone center featured life size images of the heroes in the movie and it gave the movie goers, ample opportunity to take photographs with them.
Director of the international peacekeeping agency known as S.H.I.E.L.D. played by Samuel.L Jackson, finds himself in need of a team to pull the world back from the brink of disaster. Spanning the globe, a daring recruitment effort begins for the action full heroes via The Avengers initiative.
The movie stares Robert Downey as the Iron Man, Chris Evans (Captain America) , Mark Ruffalo ( Hulk), Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Scarlett Johansson, Samuel .L. Jackson.
The movie was written and directed by Joss Whedon.

Edo Politics Becomes Bloodier As Oshiomhole's Aide Was shoot dead.

Mr Olaitan, the personal secretary to Governor Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State, was assassinated this morning.
Eye witness accounts state that the governor's aide was shot by gunmen who broke into his house early Friday morning.
The state's police command has confirmed the killing, though the state government is yet to react as the time of this report.

2 Doctors Remanded In Prison Over Death Of Pregnant Woman In Benue State.

Two doctors in Benue State are now cooling their heels in Makurdi prison for allegedly carrying out a surgical operation on a pregnant woman, which resulted in her death after they mistakenly cut her intestine.

The doctors, Fabian Iortyumbe and Samuel Anjembe, who hail from Buruku Local Government Area of the state, were remanded in prison following an order by the trial magistrate, Dan Ogo. They are facing a of criminal conspiracy and culpable homicide.

When the case came up, the pleas of the accused persons were not taken for lack of jurisdiction and the police prosecutor, Gabriel Ebonyi asked for another date to enable the police complete their investigation.
According to the police First Information Report (FIR), the court was informed that a 31-year-old woman who was in labour, was taken to a clinic in Buruku where the two medical doctors carried out operation on her without the husband’s consent.

Ruling on the case, the trial Magistrate, Dan Ogo adjourned the matter to June 3 for continuation of hearing.

Arsenal Confirms Nigerian Visit For August 5th.

English Premier League club, Arsenal have officially made public when their first-team will make the tour of Nigeria.

The Gunners announced on their official website on Friday that their “first-team squad will travel to Nigeria this summer for a pre-season match in Abuja on Sunday, August 5.”
“Arsenal Football Club is delighted to announce that the first-team squad will travel to Nigeria this summer for a pre-season match in Abuja on Sunday, August 5.
“In what will be the Gunners’ first match on Nigerian soil, Arsene Wenger’s side will play at the 60,000 capacity Abuja National Stadium. Arsenal’s opposition will be confirmed soon and is likely to be a leading African national team,” the announcement read on the official website of Arsenal.
“The visit to Nigeria will conclude an exciting pre-season tour schedule for Arsenal, who return to both China and Malaysia in July, following the success of last term’s Asia Tour.
“Further details regarding the match in Nigeria will feature on Arsenal.com as soon as they are confirmed.”
The Gunners will start their overseas tour in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on July 24 before travelling to China and Hong Kong in same month of July.

Segun Arinze Resigns As AGN President.

 

 

 

If feelers reaching us from Tunsel town are anything to go by, then, embattled president of Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), Segun Arinze has formally resigned his appointment as leader of the association.

His resignation came shortly after the botched AGN election in Edo State.

His resignation letter reads:

The Chairman board of trustees Actors Guild of Nigeria.

In view of the recent happenings in the actors guild of Nigeria and the recently botched elections in Benin. It is indeed a sad development for AGN. In actual fact my tenure as president ended on the 9th of December 2011 but stayed on as president in deference to the BOT and the vast majority of our members who prevailed on me to oversee a successful transition to a new president through a free and fair election. The events in Benin on the 28th of April 2012 is now common knowledge. I know I constituted an independent Agnec that was to supposed to be devoid of any electoral rancour or external influences. For my integrity and honour, I hereby resign as president of actors guild of Nigeria and it comes into effect immediately. I want the BOT for all the support given during my tenure, the state chapter chairmen, my fellow presidents from other guilds in Nollywood, all AGN members and especially the media for their tremendous support and positive given during my tenure. I want to thank profoundly my wife julie for holding on during the challenging period of service to the guild.

I wish the guild the very best as we move forward.

Air force jet crashes, no casualty recorded

A Nigerian Air Force F7-Ni single seat fighter jet, on a routine training exercise, crashed on Wednesday close to the Kaduna International Airport.
This was contained in a statement by the Director, Air Force Public Relations and Information, Air Commodore Yusuf Anas, the News Agency of Nigeria reports.
The statement said the pilot on board the aircraft ejected safely.
A Search and Rescue Team from the Nigerian Air Force 301 Flying Training School, Kaduna, immediately rescued the pilot who is in a stable condition, the statement said.
The statement said the pilot was receiving treatment at the Nigerian Air Force Aero Medical Hospital, Kaduna.
It further said that no fatality was reported on the ground.
Meanwhile, the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Mohammed Umar has ordered an investigation to ascertain the cause of the accident.
The statement also announced the death of retired Air Vice Marshal John Yisa-Doko, Chief of Air Staff from 1975-1980.
He died on Tuesday after a brief illness, the statement said, adding that burial arrangements would be announced later.

From their brunette hair to their dress sense, twin sisters Vicki and Valerie Darger have a number of things in common.

But the 42-year-olds share more than just their looks - they are both married to the same man.

The sisters are in a polygamous marriage with Joe, 43, who is also wedded to a third woman - their cousin Alina.

The Dargers, who are fundamentalist Mormons from Salt Lake City, Utah, live together in a large family home and have 24 children between them.

Vicki, currently a stay-at-home mother, has been married to Joe, who runs a construction company, for 22 years.

Valerie joined the family as his third wife in 2000.

In the eyes of their Fundamentalist Mormon religion, all three women are equally married to Joe.

They each have their own bedroom, and Joe alternates between the three rooms each evening.

Valerie, who works in the family cleaning business with Alina, 43, said: 'The fact that Joe was married to Vicki didn't bother me at all. I took it as a sign he would be a good husband for me as well.

'As teenagers, Vicki and I liked some of the same guys. I thought it might even be good if we married the same man.
