Underwear-bomb maker believed dead in Yemen strike.this is the guy that made Murtallab's underwear bomb.

  • FILE - This undated file photo released by Saudi Arabia's Ministry of Interior on …
  •  A Saudi militant believed killed in the U.S. drone strike in Yemen constructed the bombs for the al-Qaida branch's most notorious attempted attacks — including the underwear-borne explosives intended to a down a U.S. aircraft, and a bomb carried by his own brother intended to assassinate a Saudi prince.
  • The death of Ibrahim Hassan al-Asiri would make the Friday drone strikes on a convoy in the central deserts of Yemen one of the most effective single blows in the U.S. campaign to take out al-Qaida's top figures.
The strike also killed Anwar al-Awlaki, a Yemeni-American cleric who had been key to recruiting for the militant group and a Pakistani-American, Samir Khan, who was a top English-language propagandist.
But Christopher Boucek, a scholar who studies Yemen and al-Qaida, said al-Asiri's death would "overshadow" that of the two Americans due to his operational importance to al-Qaida in the Arabian Peninsula, the Yemen-based group that is considered the most active branch of the terror network.
Late Friday, two U.S. officials said intelligence indicated al-Asiri was among those killed in the strike. The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because al-Asiri's death has not officially been confirmed.
The 29-year-old al-Asiri was one of the first Saudis to join the Yemen-based al-Qaida branch and became its key bombmaker, designing the explosives in two attempted attacks against the United States.
His fingerprint was found on the bomb hidden in the underwear of a Nigerian man accused of trying to blow up Northwest Airlines Flight 253 over Detroit on Christmas Day 2009, according to U.S. counterterrorism officials. The attack failed because the would-be bomber Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab botched detonating the explosives, ending up only burning himself before being wrestled away by passengers.
The explosives used in that bomb were chemically identical to those hidden inside two printers that were shipped from Yemen last year, bound for Chicago and Philadelphia in a plot claimed by al-Qaida. The bombs were intercepted in England and Dubai.
In perhaps his most ruthless operation, al-Asiri turned his younger brother, Abdullah, into a human bomb in a 2009 attempt to kill Saudi Prince Mohammed bin Nayef, the kingdom's top counterterrorism official and son of its interior minister.

Emerging Star-Kenneth Kumbur From Benue Steps Into Jay Jay Okocha's boots.

Kenneth Kumbur, who competed in the 2010 edition, is one of the emerging stars available to the Nigerian youth system.

His impressive performance in last year’s edition of the Shell Cup earned him the Most Valuable Player award.

Kumbur was incorporated into the 2011 Under-17 squad, but the team failed to progress in the Africa Under-17 championship. Despite the elimination of the team, Kumbur’s performance didn’t go un-noticed as he won the Best Young Player category at the prestigious AIT Football Awards.

The good news is that players from all four schools that have converged on Lagos for the final stage of the 2011 edition have a massive opportunity to take their career to another level.

Kenneth Kumbur Amia is a rising football star who is currently fighting for a shirt in the national U-17 team. A student of Mbagba Nanev Community Secondary School Adikpo in Benue State, the young prodigy emerged the most valuable player at this year’s shell Cup for secondary schools in Nigeria. He also missed the top scorer’s award by whiskers as he ended the tournament with seven goals while the player who eventually bagged the award netted nine goals. His rival’s last two goals which gave him the prize were scored on the final day of the competition.
Born on February 5, 1994, the teenager who hails from Kwande Local Government Area of Benue State was instrumental to his team’s impressive run in the 2010 Shell Cup competition. He was the pillar of the team as he ensured that his school remained in the competition and also played in the finals against all odds. Indeed the odds were daunting as on more than two occasions, members of his team were screened out leaving only the required seven players for his side to do battle against other team’s who had full complement of their members. Even as it appeared like mission impossible on several occasions, he continually propelled his side to resounding victories which took them to the Cup finals.
The immensely skillful player was the cynosure of all eyes as he dazzled fans with mesmerizing football skills. Although not endowed with physical strength, he is blessed with high football sense. On and off the ball, he is a delight as he continually conjures breath taking moves which keep soccer fans on the edges of their seats. Except for those who have watched him play, this will certainly sound like an exaggeration.
It is therefore no surprise that at the end of the final match of this year’s Shell football competition between Benue State and Imo at the Liberation Stadium in Port-Harcourt, the legendary former Super Eagles captain, Austin Jay Jay Okocha had no option than to publicly attest to the teenager’s football prowess. He is said to have confessed that throughout his interaction with the upcoming generation of footballers, he has never come across a youth who is an embodiment of almost all his football skills. Without mincing words, he instantly anointed the player for greatness in the round leather game.
Even before he was anointed by Okocha, the man saddled with the responsibility of producing the next national U-17 football team, Coach Monday Odigie had spotted the player right at the quarter finals of the Shell Cup.
Those who have watched this player will be in a better position to appreciate why Jay Jay Okocha could not conceal his love for him. When  reporters visited the team’s training camp, an official of the team who did not want his name in print confirmed that the player is the next Jay Jay Okocha.
This is the brief story of the young boy who is destined for greatness according to Okocha who cannot be faulted when it comes to identifying a talented footballer. Ordinarily, any player anointed by one of the most successful players to emerge from Nigeria should feel on top of the world but Kumbur’s case is slightly different. He is excited but not distracted by Okocha’s accolades.
A humble boy from a humble background, the player is still oblivious of what he is endowed with. Even if he is going to be the next Jay Jay, he seems not to know. All he knows is that he likes playing football and it is just want he enjoys doing.

Celebrating Nigeria's Independence In Low Key.

Mr. Labaran Maku Mr. Labaran Maku

The Federal Government yesterday explained why it opted for a low-key celebration of the nation’s 51st Independence Anniversary.
It said the austere celebration has nothing to do with bomb explosions and threats by some militia groups.
Information and Communications Minister Mr. Labaran Maku said government set aside the celebration to reflect on issues, adding that “it is not every year that the government would roll out the drums.”
Maku said in the last one year, the country has had two elaborate celebrations – Nigeria’s 50th anniversary in 2010 and the inauguration of the President Goodluck Jonathan administration last May 29.
He said this is not the first time Nigeria would be avoiding an elaborate anniversary celebration.
The minister debunked yesterday’s reports in a national newspaper (not The Nation) linking the low-key celebration with security concerns about a possible attack by the Boko Haram sect.
He said: “Firstly, I’m disappointed by one of the front page stories in one of the leading newspapers today (yesterday), claiming that the Federal Government has stepped down celebrations in this year’s anniversary because of “Boko Haram ccare.” That story was the highest level of irresponsibility.
“Nigeria belongs to all of us and we must put the interest of this country first. The President has just signed the Freedom of Information (FoI) Act into Law as a sign of this administration’s commitment to promoting freedom of the press.
“It is increasingly a matter of concern the way a few newspapers have been reporting the security challenges this nation has. In the first instance, every Nigerian is aware that even during the military regime, it was not every anniversary that the nation celebrated with military parade.
“As a former commissioner in this dispensation, I know that for several years, we never celebrated independence with military parade, where pupils engage in march past.

Clinton Advisor: “Obama Will Bow Out of Presidential Race”

A former President Clinton adviser says U.S. President Barack Obama will give in to pressure from Democrat leaders and bow out of the 2012 presidential race.
Clinton’s former campaign manager Dick Morris stated that the Democrats no longer have confidence in Obama’s leadership skills.
In an interview with conservative radio icon Sean Hannity, Morris said, “I asked a top Democratic strategist the other day and he thought that it was possible that, in January, Harry Reid comes to Obama and says, ‘Look you cost us control of the House last year, you’re going to cost us control of the Senate this year. For the good of the party you have to step aside’” said Morris.
it is “very possible” that President Obama might acquiesce to requests from the Democratic leadership in Congress and bow out of the 2012 race, leaving the door open for him to return sometime in the future.

Appeal Court orders retrial of forgery case against Suswam.

THE Court of Appeal, sitting in Makurdi, has ordered that the case of certificate forgery against the incumbent Governor Gabriel Suswam of Benue State should be retried by the state Election Petitions Tribunal.

Ruling on the appeal filed by the governorship candidate of All Nigeria People’s Party (ANPP), Prof. Daniel Saror, the appellate court held that the lower tribunal erred by holding that the certificate issue had nothing to do with the election of Suswam, when it actually formed part of the conditions for his qualification for the election.

The presiding judge of the court, Justice Munir Ladan, sent the case back to the lower tribunal for retrial.

Following the ruling, the governor called on his supporters to remain calm, saying that the appeal court’s ruling would be challenged at the Supreme Court.

Briefing newsmen at the Benue Hotels in Makurdi after the ruling, Special Adviser to Governor Suswam on Media and Public Affairs, Dr. Cletus Akwaya, said the governor was aware of the ruling and expressed satisfaction and unshakable confidence in the judiciary.

‘The governor has been fully briefed and has taken it with philosophical calmness even though he made it clear that the ruling would be challenged’, the media adviser said.

The governor, according to Akwaya has urged his supporters to remain calm, law abiding and continue to be supportive of his administration since his lawyers are working tirelessly to handle the ruling at the Supreme Court.

AN OPEN PROTEST LETTER AGAINST THE EXECUTIVE GOVERNOR OF BENUE STATE RT. HON. GABRIEL TORWUA SUSWAM

AN OPEN PROTEST LETTER AGAINST THE EXECUTIVE GOVERNOR OF BENUE STATE RT. HON. GABRIEL TORWUA SUSWAM
TITLED : MANIPULATION OF JUSTICE, CORRUPTION, INSECURITY, AND
UNDERDEVELOPMENT IN BENUE STATE

WRITTEN BY:
BENUE MONITORING TEAM
September 29, 2011

Distinguished men and women of the world, our leaders in government of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and the most respected members of the press community.
We come out here fully mobilized as Benue people. We have grievances against the Government of Dr. Gabriel Suswam, which it is our desire to be heard. We want the Federal Government of Nigeria, people and the world community to know our predicament.
Before we proceed, may we acknowledge this wisdom of one of Nigeria’s great leaders, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, he said;
“What it takes evil to prevail in any situation
Is for men of good will to keep silence in
Times of moral crises and decadence”

We the people of Benue State are today confronted with a multiplicity of problems in this practice of democracy institutionalized by constitution of our great country Nigeria.
As law abiding people, we had accepted wholeheartedly and submitted our collective will to the tenets of democracy since its inception in 1999.
Democracy as you know is government of a people by elected representatives of their own people. Abraham Lincoln apathy capture it as “government of the people, for the people and by the people”
Considering all these definitions, the people of Benue state like every other Nigerians were happy with the institutionalizing of this system in 1999, and greeted it with great enthusiasm. We believed that with democracy, our views will be heard. It was in our collective opinion that a Government elected by our people shall save us from all the incongruous practices of deceit, corruption, and organized brutality. Above all, we were confident that our votes will count and would always be counted in compliance with substantial justice.
Unfortunately, since 2007, at the inception of the administration of Governor Gabriel Suswam, till date, Benue State have been under siege of dangerous practices and organized criminality perpetrated by the Governor and his cronies.
We still maintained patience; most especially that democratic leadership in Nigeria is constitutionally bound by tenure of 4 – years.
In April 2011, general elections, Benue people voted. We all spoke with one voice, and our common word was “CHANGE”
We opted for change because Benue people could no longer afford to pay children school fees, the cost pedestal for training children was raised far above our means of life. Again, change became an option of because joblessness  dominated the Benue community, There exist abject poverty, and we are completely subjected to dehumanizing and extreme conditions of oppression, suppression, assassinations, political slavery, and most dangerously economic inequality became extreme.
We expected that our franchise will be protected by a lawful and just system where fair elections will happen. BENUE PEOPLE massively and decisively voted for the Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, Governorship Candidate, Prof. Steve  Torkuma Ugbah. However, and most disappointedly, our mandate was stolen by broad day robbery, still as a peaceful people and law abiding citizens of Nigeria, Benue people maintained calm. We submitted to the assurance that substantial justice will be done by our Judiciary.
It is however, unfortunate that our confidence and hope in the judiciary has been betrayed. There are concerted efforts by the President of Nigeria, to infiltrate, frustrate and eliminate the conscience of the judiciary from the top. Here in Benue State, we are bothered with seemingly corrupt tendencies and most unprofessional conduct of judges following confused judgments with conspicuous biases against Benue people at the election tribunals and the appellate tribunals.
The book of Ephesians 4:27, says “Do not give the devil a chance” And now, we have heard enough and seen the devil. Governor GABRIEL SXUSWAM has publicly and severally declared that he has concluded election matters with Mr. President and Benue people shall see no justice.
At this point, upon Governor SUSWAM’S PUBLIC DECLARATIONS, the recent display of confusion and recklessness by the judiciary and the scheduled visit of President Goodluck Jonathan to celebrate Hon. Dr. Gabriel Suswam purported victory, is most pre-emptive of the evil ahead. We are therefore constrained to act a warning today. We come out in great numbers, yet peacefully; to demand to be heard by the people and Government of Nigeria, and the world community.
The world should know that there is great injustice happening in Benue State, and this, if not averted, it may degenerate into and irreparable confusion.
We are not unaware of the rebel options as it happens in most part of the world and even Nigeria. However, Benue people have always taken the part of honor, and today are also evident in history.
Today the people of Benue have demonstrated but peacefully, as a mark of Warning to all authorities in Nigeria and the world, that in this 21st century, a people cannot be governed without their consent.
In conclusion therefore, that our collective patience has exceeded its limit today. We demand for a more convincing adjudication and substantial justice in Benue state. We shall no longer condone any further provocation of injustice and Government of oppressors.
We would better accept to die than to take these dwelling slave conditions in our home land of Benue.
ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!

OUR DEMANDS ARE FEW
v The school fees at the BSU should be reversed immediately.
v SUSWAM lost at the April election, so he should step down
v   Government should Stop using Benue money in buying judgment
v Return back the stolen billion of our tax payers money
v Make available the disputed WAEC result for public consumption
v Restore all the civil servants that were sack upon your Government perception that they voted for Prof. Steve Torkuma Ugbah
v Governor Suswam should fulfill his earlier that killers of Bar. Jande, Tony Udu and Pastor Adoor will be brought to justice
v The Government of Benue state should regard the law in compliance with the minimum wage act in Nigeria.

Suswam confident of victory in certificate forgery case

Youths protest ‘miscarriage of justice in favour of Suswam’
FOLLOWING the Appeal Court ruling, which ordered for a re-trial of the certificate forgery petition filed by the All Nigerian Peoples Party’s (ANPP) governorship candidate in the last election, Prof. Daniel Saror, against Governor Gabriel Suswam, the Benue State government has expressed unshakeable faith in the judiciary.
Addressing a press conference at the Benue Hotels in Makurdi, the state capital, shortly after the ruling, Special Adviser to Suswam on Media and Public Affairs, Dr. Cletus Akwaya said the governor has been fully briefed and unlike his opponents, has taken the ruling with calmness.
Suswam, according to Akwaya, has urged his supporters to remain calm, law abiding and continue to be supportive of his administration, assuring that competent lawyers have been hired to appeal the ruling at the Supreme Court.
Akwaya spoke just as youths numbering over 600 suspected to be Suswam’s opponents, blocked the popular Wurukum round-about linking the north to the eastern part of the country in protest against what they tagged, ‘Benue Tribunal: Miscarriage of Justice in favour of Governor Suswam.’
Initially, it was unclear which group was behind the mayhem, but it was later noticed that some of the irate youths, under the aegis of Benue Monitoring Group, carried a coffin with the inscription, ‘Obituary for PDP.’
As a result, workers who had prepared to resume at their various offices that morning had to scamper for safety as the angry youths chanted war songs and burnt tyres, blocking the major roads linking Makurdi.
Just as the confusion engulfed the major roundabout, another group, National Union of Benue Students (NUBESS) were seen circulating fliers around Wurukum Market area to the state university gate, accusing Suswam of allowing arbitrary increase in their school fees.
In a sharp reaction to the pandemonium in the Wurukum area, the state government condemned in strong terms the protests just as it warned leaders of opposition parties and their sponsors to desist forthwith or face the wrath of the law.
Akwaya quoted Suswam as directing the police and other security agencies to employ all lawful means to maintain law and order in all the nooks and crannies of the state.
Meanwhile, Suswam’s class-mates at Government College, Makurdi, 1982 set, have described the certificate forgery allegation as the handiwork of backstabbers and warned them to stop dragging their friend’s name into the mud.
Addressing journalists at the Benue Hotels in Makurdi yesterday, class Governor of the set, Mr. Asue Mede said the set has a duty to set the records straight and put the gossipers to shame.
While presenting copies of the computer printout of the controversial certificates, which were brought by the present Principal of the school, Honourable David Asema Chahul, the set said Suswam scored six credits at a sitting.

MEND threatens retaliation against Boko Haram

Boko Haram and Mend Boko Haram and Mend

An epic terrorist  battle is looming over the country.
The Movement for the   Emancipation of Niger Delta  (MEND) yesterday declared its intention  to rejoin the bombing fray in confrontation against Islamic fundamentalist group Boko Haram.
The Niger Delta group, which bombed Abuja on the nation’s 50th Independence anniversary  last year, told The Nation on the telephone yesterday that it will return to its bombings from tomorrow “as a retaliation against Boko Haram’s activities and the killing of national youth Corps members in the North”.
A MEND official who gave his name as Peters Timi called The Nation’s head office yesterday.
He described himself as the European representative of MEND. He called from a hidden number and declined to reveal where he was calling from.
He urged our reporter to get in touch with him on email address ryrosane@yahoo.com for further  clarification.
The MEND official said nationals of six countries living in Nigeria “should leave or become targets of our bombings. We shall target them and their business interests in Nigeria”.
He listed the countries as Sudan, Niger, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Libya and Mauritania.
MEND also said it is embarking on bombings “to prove a point to Boko Haram that they cannot humiliate President Goodluck Jonathan out of power”.
The president hails from Bayelsa in the Niger Delta.
The group called for the immediate stoppage of the trial of MEND leader Henry Okah and his brother Charles, and their release from custody “to reunite with their families.”
Henry is on trial in South Africa while Charles is facing trial in Abuja alongside others, in connection with last October bombings in Abuja.
Also yesterday, the Association of ex-militants warned Boko Haram and their sponsors to stop further attacks on innocent Nigerians.
Smith Bounanaowei and John Government, leader and national chairman of the group, spoke in Ughelli, headquarters of Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State. They warned the Boko Haram group not to kill innocent people or disturb the Jonathan administration.
The group wondered why Northern leaders like former Heads of State, Generals Ibrahim Babangida, Muhammadu Buhari, Abdusalami Abubakar, and ex-Vice President Atiku Abubakar and others cannot call the Boko Haram men to order.
They said for more than 38 years when the North ruled the country, there were no bombings. They wondered why it is now that President Goodluck Jonathan is in power that the Boko Haram sect suddenly surfaced.
“We, the ex-militants of the Niger Delta region want to warn that when we were agitating for our right, we didn’t bomb United Nations office but rather oil facilities in our domain. We expected them to do same by burning rice, tomatoes and beans farm and not killing innocent Nigerians. We want to warn that if anything should happen to President  Jonathan, it means the end of this country because we are ready to make it ungovernable for anyone that will succeed Jonathan”, they said.”

Pastor Caught With Male Church Member Inside Hotel Room

The police at Ijesha Police Division in Lagos State, Southwest Nigeria, have arrested a suspected homosexual pastor, Prince Egimonele, in a hotel as he attempted to have sex with his male church member.

The victim, Chidiebere Mozie, a drummer in the pastor’s church, reportedly played along and informed the police of the appointment with the pastor before they went inside the hotel room to have sex. The police laid ambush for the pastor A police source informed TODAY'S GIST that the pastor, Egimonele, the General Overseer of Jesus Intervention Ministry at Ijesha Community Hall, a native of Abia State, Southeast Nigeria, was arrested inside the hotel along Ijesha Road, where he had gone to have fun with Chidiebere Mozie, 23, whom he allegedly lured with N100,000.

However, luck ran out on the pastor when policemen arrested him in the hotel. Items recovered from the randy clergyman inside the hotel room include a pack of viagra, a drug that boosts male libido, Rough Rider condoms, cream and fruit juice. After police investigation, the pastor and an accomplice Lawrence were arraigned before a Cele Magistrate’s Court in Lagos on a four-count charge of having sex with a male partner and an attempt to have unlawful carnal knowledge and indecent practice with a male person in a hotel.

The offences, according to the prosecutor, are punishable under Sections 516, 214 and 217 of the Criminal Code. Section 214 of the Criminal Code Act, Chapter 77, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 1990 reads:“Any person who has carnal knowledge of any person against the order of nature; or has carnal knowledge of an animal; or permits a male person to have carnal knowledge of him or her against the order of nature is guilty of felony, and is liable to imprisonment for fourteen (14) years.” Section 217 of the Criminal Code Act reads:

Any male person who, whether in public or private, commits any act of gross indecency with another male person, or procures another male person to commit any act of gross indecency with him, or attempts to procure the commission of any such act by any male person with himself or with another male person, whether in public or private, is guilty of a felony and is liable to imprisonment for three years.

The accused persons pleaded not guilty when the charge was read to them. The presiding magistrate, Mrs. D. T. Olatokun, admitted the pastor to bail in the sum of N250,000 and Lawrence, N100,000 with two sureties each in like sum. She adjourned the matter till 10 November, 2011 for mention. The accused were moved to Kirikiri Maximum Prison, Apapa, Lagos, when they could not perfect their bail conditions in good time.

Immigration Arrests 100 Libyans In Kaduna.

THE Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS), in Kaduna, has arrested over 100 suspected mercenaries from Libya. They were suspected to have fled the country and arrived in Kaduna through the Niger-Nigeria border at the weekend, after the fall of the regime of Libyan leader, Muammar Gaddafi.

The suspects, according to an eyewitness, arrived in the state at about 2.00 p.m. on Friday looking exhausted and unkempt. According to the eyewitness, “as they filed through heavily armed Immigration officials at the Kaduna zonal office of the Nigerian Immigration Service(NIS),they were made to sit on the ground on the premises right in front of the office of the Zonal Comptroller under the watch of heavily armed officials while documentation procedure went on.”

The suspects were said to be with some members of their families, including children, and were conveyed in two luxury buses. “One of the suspects, who craved for anonymity, said that they had been wandering in the desert for the past three weeks before they were apprehended by the Immigration officials at the Niger-Nigeria border.

He said they left Libya and wandered in the desert before their arrest and subsequent conveyance to Kaduna from the Niger-Nigeria border. So Is It True That Men Whose Dads Cheated Are More Likely to Follow Same Path?

Corbis
If you're worried that your guy is a cheater, you might want to check his dad's track record.

A team of Czech researchers found that men whose fathers have been unfaithful while they were growing up are likely to pick up the same behavior themselves.

Women, on the other hand, weren't significantly affected by their mothers' infidelity.

Lead scientist Jan Havlicek and his team looked at 86 couples, asking each partner separately about their feelings and attitudes toward relationships and sex as well as their family histories with infidelity.

Researchers found that good-looking sons of handsome fathers were more likely to cheat. Meanwhile, pretty women who had beautiful mothers aren't necessarily going to be "unfaithful." Instead, they're just likely to be selective when it comes to choosing a significant other.

Since men's main motivation in a relationship is sex, he will likely stray if his "appetite" is unsatisfied and he wants more sex or sexual partners. But if a woman cheats, it's because she isn't happy with her significant other or her relationship, the researchers said.

Same Sex Marriage To Be Banned In Nigeria, N50K Fine

Unlike some parts of Europe and United States where same sex marriage is legally permitted between homosexuals and lesbians, the Nigerian Government has condemned it, saying that the practice is immoral and ungodly.

From the bill passed  by the Nigeria Senate (upper house of parliament), anyone who contract same marriage would be arrested and taken to court. The punishment attracts jail term. Anyone seen to have also encouraged such marriage would also be punished jailed but with an option of N50,000 as fine.
President Goodluck Jonathan will have to sign the bill before it can finally become law. Those in the know strongly believe that Nigerian president will not think twice before signing it into law.

Bitter war between Helen Prest Ajayi and Nike Osinowo-Soleye

One story that is making the rounds in the Lagos social circle is about an alleged bitter war between former Miss Nigeria and ageless beauty,Helen Prest Ajayi and her erstwhile protégé and ex Most Beautiful Girl In Nigeria pageant,Nike Osinowo-Soleye.
According to the gist, the two women do not see eye to eye and each of them in recent time, has been bad mouthing the other.
Those who peddle the gist, claim that the issues stems from a seeming”lack of respect” for her elders on the part of Nike Oshinowo-Soleye.
Those who hold this view, claim that years ago,Nike was a protégé of Helen Prest Ajayi, who is one of the most evergreen Miss Nigeria pageant winners.
As they put it,it was Helen Prest that persuaded Nike, who was then living in England to return to Nigeria to contest the Most Beautiful Girl in Nigeria crown which she (Nike) won at the time.
The gist peddlers say her victory, was also with the aid of the former Miss Nigeria who groomed and guided her through the processes that saw her tops.
Years later however, they claim that Nike,”grew wings” and was claiming equality with Helen Prest who incidentally is also five years or more older than her.It was this equality claim that tore the two erstwhile pals apart and started their unending war.
But even as they battle each other,a lot of celebrity women in their circle are already taking sides. Many say Helen Prest Ajayi is a little envious of Nike Oshinowo whom they claim dwarfs Helen Prest and is perhaps Nigeria’s most acclaimed and most celebrated beauty queen ever.
They allege that with her(Nike’s) achievement,Helen Prest should not expect her to be perpetually crawling to her even if it was she who pushed her into returning to contest the MBGN years ago.But Helen Prest’s supporters are saying that despite Nike’s popularity, that she lacks the sterling quality of a real queen.
They also claim that she is disrespectful and should kowtow to Helen Prest as her elder and erstwhile mentor. They claim that Nike has no substance to her persona except the media hype that follows her.
This they say is why she has fallen apart with all her friends including Erelu Dosunmu,Doyin Abiola,Biola Okoya and Nkiru Anumundu.

Oil militants threaten independence day attacks

Militants from  oil producing Niger Delta on Wednesday threatened to bomb areas in the capital Abuja, scene of last year’s Independence Day bombings which killed 12 people.
Abuja’s Eagle Square which MEND threatened to target usually hosts the main celebrations of Independence Day which comes up on Saturday.
“The Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND) intends to place bombs within the vicinity of Eagle Square, venue of the proposed 2011 independence anniversary celebrations,” the group said in a statement.
MEND which claimed responsibility for last year’s twin bombings near the same venue, issued the threat in a statement emailed to journalists.
It warned the members of the public to take the warning seriously, adding that the attack “will be novel in nature”.
The group has been known to carry out most of its threats.
It is not exactly clear if authorities plan to hold any festivities this year, given a series of attacks that have rocked the capital recently.
An Islamist group, known as Boko Haram, has staged several attacks mainly in the north and in the capital city this year, including a suicide attack on the UN headquarters which claimed 23 lives in August.

PDP Chieftain Son’s Body Rots Under Makurdi Bridge,Identified As ''AWANGE''.

Capital of Benue State in NigeriaImage via Wikipedia

The decomposing body of the 22-year-old son of a chieftain of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, was found dangling under the old Makurdi Bridge, Makurdi, Benue State capital, yesterday, in what seemed like suicide.
The deceased, whose name was given as Daddy Awange, was said to have just finished writing his school certificate examinations and was not known to have exhibited any sign of madness or ill health before he left the family house last Tuesday at about 10pm. He failed to come back.
The scene of the bizarre incident attracted many sympathisers and by-standers who thronged the scene to see the hanging corpse, thereby creating huge vehicular traffic jam on the route.
One Tartor Suemo, who identified himself as a cousin of Awange, said the deceased was declared missing a week ago after disappearing from the house.
Suemo said: “Awange mysteriously left home last Tuesday at about 10pm and nothing was heard from him until the story of his alleged suicide was reported to the family.
”This is strange because Daddy had no history of mental disorder. He had just finished writing his school certificate examinations. This is just unfortunate.”
Vanguard further gathered that the deceased was the fourth child of the PDP stalwart and Gubernatorial Liaison Officer, GLO, for one of the local government councils in the state (names withheld).
Attempts to reach the deceased’s father were unsuccessful as he had reportedly travelled out of town and could not be reached on telephone.
Meanwhile, family members and policemen were removing the corpse for burial at the time of this report.
When contacted, Benue State Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Assistant Superintendent Ejike Alaribe, stated that the Police was investigating the matter, adding that efforts were being intensified to unravel the cause of the death.
‘’We are not ruling out anything in our investigations,” he added.
