Benue State Governor Dr Samuel Ortom To Borrow Another N5Billion, This Time For Counterpart Funding .What's Your Take On This?

Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom, has disclosed that he would approach the State House of Assembly for approval to borrow N5 billion for the payment of counterpart funding of joint projects with development partners. He made the disclosure at the Banquet Hall of the Benue Peoples House Makurdi during a courtesy call on him by the partners.

Governor Ortom said in spite of the economic downturn he had just approved the release of N20 million to UNICEF as counterpart fund to enable it carry out its projects across the state.

He explained that having realised the importance of development partners in complementing government efforts towards enhancing service delivery in different sectors of the state he was determined to meet the obligations of the state government.

Governor Ortom disclosed that as a practical demonstration of his commitment towards partnership he had compiled all counterpart commitments across the board and would approach the State Assembly to approve a N5 billion loan to procure and pay.

He expressed optimism that with the payment he was sure that the partners would commit much more while assuring that whatever funds meant for development of the state would be judiciously applied. Governor Ortom restated the commitment of his government to fight corruption and ensure compliance with due process and the rule of law adding that his insistence on doing the needful was predicated on his covenant with God and the people.

In a remark, the Director General of the State Planning Commission, Mrs. Dorcas Ukpe stated that the partners had assisted the state government to improve on service delivery in various sectors including agriculture, health, education, security as well as human and material development. Earlier, head of delegation from UNICEF zonal office Enugu, Mr. Charles Nzuki, expressed hope that with the commitment shown by the administration, donor agencies would be encouraged to put in their best.

DSS Posts Marilyn Ogar To Maiduguri, Posting Currently On Hold.

Acting Director General of Department of State Services (DSS), Lawal Musa Daura, has reportedly transferred Marilyn Ogar to Maiduguri, Borno state. 

Ogar, who was until recently DSS deputy director, public relations, was transferred this week, however, the posting has now been put on hold following insinuations that it was “punitive”.

''Right now, she is just hanging around in Abuja awaiting the next order,” a source at the agency informed TheCable.

Ogar, as spokesperson, was responsible for defending the DSS in the media and she is believed to be paying for some of her pronouncements.

Miami Police Officer Under Investigation for Her Past in Adult Films

Police officer Sabine Raymonvil, an eight-year veteran of the Miami Police Department, is the subject of an internal investigation that includes allegations she performed in pornographic movies while serving as a cop.

Raymonvil refused to answer questions while on camera, but later telephoned the station and said that her work in porn films was done prior to her becoming a police officer.

“Right now there is a lot going on with this whole situation,” Raymonvil said. “It’s currently under investigation by two police agencies. So I can’t say very much. I’m willing to speak with you after the investigations are closed. I never made porn while I was a police officer.”

A source close to the investigation alleged that Raymonvil appeared in the porn films well into her tenure as a cop. Her social media postings show a woman who enjoys the club life, sporting photos of Raymonvil with Snoop Dogg, football player Daunte Culpepper, actor Idris Elba, actor Laz Alonso, Hollywood film director John Singleton and Miami Commissioner Kion Hardemon, among others.

There are no direct rules forbidding officers from engaging in pornography, but it could fall under other common police policies such as conduct unbecoming. In 2009, a Hollywood police officer named Mike Verdugo was fired after it was discovered he’d appeared in a single gay porn film three years prior to his becoming a cop. The reason for that firing was that he failed to disclose he made the film in his application to become an officer.

The Miami Police Department, citing an open investigation, refused to comment.

Explosion Rocks Maiduguri Town.

A blast suspected to be from a vehicle loaded with explosives, has occurred in Maiduguri, the capital of Borno state.

The explosion occurred around Bulumkutu area just in front of Shehu Elkanemi college.

A witness who spoke via phone, told PREMIUM TIMES that “the vehicle exploded on traffic and there were two people inside the car”.

He called in afterwards to clarify that the blast was from the popular commercial tricycle, Keke, which was riding behind a packed police patrol vehicle.

The witness said it was likely all occupants of the Keke and the police vehicle were dead.

A resident of the area, Mallam Sheriff, confirmed the incident.

“Yes, we just heard a large explosion from the direction of the area and I can see many ambulances and military vehicles heading in the direction. God help us, ” he said.

President Buhari & Vice President Osibanjo To Take Only 50% Of Their Salaries.

President Muhammadu Buhari says he will only receive 50 percent of the salary paid to his predecessor, Goodluck Jonathan. The president’s decision to take a 50 percent pay cut was conveyed to the office of the secretary to the government of the federation on Friday by the permanent secretary of the state house, Nebolisa Emodi.

“I write to forward the completed IPPIS registration form of Mr President and to draw your kind attention to Mr President’s directive that only 50 percent of his salary be paid to him,” Mr. Emodi wrote in the letter with reference number PRES/81/SGF/17.

Yemi Osinbajo, vice-president, has similarly given up half of his official remuneration. The current annual remuneration of the president of Nigeria, as published by the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) is N14 million.

President Buhari earlier rejected a proposal for the purchase five armoured Mercedes cars valued at N400 million for his use.

President Buhari To Give Tinubu 4 Slots For Ministers As Peace Offering.

President Muhammadu Buhari is set to give Bola Tinubu, National leader of the All Progressives Congress, APC , four ministerial slots as a peace offering.

NIGERIAN TRIBUNE reports that the President is making the move to help cement his relationship with former governor of Lagos State following the cracks between the duo over the management of National Assembly leadership crisis.

Tinubu’s camp is said to be angry over President Buhari’s failure to back its strategies that would have ensured the emergence of candidates of the party for the positions of Senate president and Speaker of the House of Representatives.

Governor Wike Renames Rivers Polytechnic after Ken Saro-Wiwa.

Rivers State Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike, has renamed the State Polytechnic, Bori, after the late author and environmental rights activist from Ogoniland, Ken Saro-Wiwa.

Wike explained that renaming of the institution, located in Bori, Khana Local Government Area, Ken Saro-Wiwa Polytechnic was in honour of the late activist’s achievements and legacies.

The governor, who disclosed this in a statement issued in Port Harcourt on Thursday, said Saro-Wiwa fought selflessly for the good of the society and humanity.

He explained that the former Ogoni leader and his achievement should not be consigned to oblivion, saying Saro-Wiwa was known and revered beyond the shores of Nigeria.

“In honour of his monumental achievements and legacies, the Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, has renamed the Rivers State Polytechnic in Bori as Ken Ule Beeson Saro-Wiwa Polytechnic.

“The memories of avatars like the late Saro-Wiwa, who fought selflessly for the betterment of society and humanity should not be consigned to oblivion, more so, when such personalities are revered beyond the shores of the country,” Wike said in the statement signed by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Sir, Opunabo Inko-Tariah.

21 Lawyers Bag Senior Advocate Of Nigeria Title.

The Legal Practitioners’ Privileges Committee has conferred the rank of the Senior Advocate of Nigeria(SAN) on 21 lawyers.

The successful lawyers include, National Legal Adviser of the All Progressives Congress, Dr. Muiz Banire, Dr. Oladapo Olanipekun, who is a son of a former President of the Nigerian Bar Association, Chief Wole Olanipekun, and Emeka Etiaba, a son of a former Deputy Governor of Anambra State, and Mrs. Virgy Etiaba.

Also benefited were Legal Services of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Ibrahim Bawa; Edward Ashiekaa, Benson Nwankwo, Joseph Bamigboye, Patrick Okolo, Prof. Maxwell Gidado, Dr. Tahir Mamman, and Dr. Akinpelu Onigbinde.

Others were Samuel Zibiri, Adeniyi Adegbonmire, Aderibigbe Adedeji, Emmanuel Aguma, Abimbola Akeredolu, Olumuyiwa Akinboro, Gordy Uche, Uchechukwu Obi, Kehinde Eleja and Prof. Paul Idornigie.

Gidado, Mamman‎, and Idornigie were of the academic category while the rest of the 18 lawyers were conferred with the rank as advocates.

‎The only female among the 21 successful lawyers, Akeredolu, was one of the three females in a total of 124 applicants that applied for the rank when the application entry opened in January.

Chief Registrar of the Supreme Court and Secretary to the LPPC, Ahmed Saleh, announced the name of the successful lawyers at a press conference on Friday.

He said the rank was conferred on the 21 lawyers at the 119th general meeting of the LPPC on Friday “as a mark of excellence to the under listed members of the legal profession.”

The 21 lawyers were selected after an interview of the 50 shortlisted candidates held on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Keyamo was shortlisted for the final interview last year but did not make the final list. ‎This made the second time he got so close to getting the rank after previous attempts that failed to earn him an opportunity for the final interview.

Also, a former National Adviser of the Peoples Democratic Party, Chief Olusola Oke, who is now an APC member, was also shortlisted for this year’s final interview but failed to make the final list.
The LPPC secretary, while briefing journalists, said 124 applicants applied for the rank.

Saleh said the 21 lawyers would be sworn in on September 21 at a special court session marking the beginning of the 2015/2016 legal year.

The new SANs will join 408 lawyers both living and dead who had been conferred with the rank since its inception in 1975.

FCT Police Arrests Man Parading Himself As President Buhari's Son.

Operatives of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) have arrested a man, who allegedly paraded himself as the son of the Nigerian president in order to defraud his unsuspecting victims.

A source at the FCT SARS told our reporter that the suspect continuously promised to secure contracts for his victims from the president, saying he had made billions of naira through this illicit venture. 

According to city news,the suspect had enriched himself using names of big politicians and businessmen to defraud his victims.

“He mostly approached big contractors, who were desperate to see the president or any of the governors. He would put fake calls across to the supposed politicians in the presence of his victims and convince them to book appointments. From there, he would demand that the politician’s security officials needed to be settled with huge amounts of money before the contractor would be granted audience with the president or the governor,” the source said.

Trouble started for the fake president’s son when one of his victims, a contractor, repeatedly took his case to SARS, complaining that after collecting lots of money from him, he was not taken to the politician. It was gathered that the suspect has been on the wanted list of the FCT Special Anti-Robbery Squad. 

City news also gathered that he had superimposed pictures with the president, an action that made his story believable.

When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer, FCT command, Anjuguri Manzah, confirmed that acting on a tipoff, SARS operatives arrested the suspect last Saturday at about 2 a.m. 

“The truth is that the suspect had defrauded so many people. To perfect his act, he paraded himself as the son of the president. Three Mercedez Benz and one Peugeot 406 cars were recovered from him as exhibits,” he said, adding that investigations are ongoing.

Police Foil Attempt To Bomb Fed High Court Port Harcourt For Ruling On Dissolution Of Local Government Chairmen.

Police in Rivers State today foiled an attempt by arsonists to raze the Federal High Court in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital.

There were speculations Thursday morning that two explosions went off at the premises of the court.

But FabmimiBlog investigation through Government House Port Harcourt revealed that there were no explosions as speculated.

“The Court was billed to hear two cases brought before it by the APC local government chairmen in the state against the Rivers State government,” a journalist at Government House said.

“However, the local council chairmen had said earlier on local radio stations today that they had withdrawn their case at the Federal High Court to enable them continue with same case at the Industrial Court, Yenagoa, Bayelsa State.” 

FabmimiBlog put a call to a government official who disclosed that the judgement on the Dissolution of Local Government Councils in Rivers State caused an attempted bomb blast but the police detonated the bombs to save the situation.
