Investigations have revealed that the official of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) who escaped from quarantine in Lagos is named Olu-Ibukun Koye.Koye fled to Port Harcourt after coming in contact with index case, Patrick Sawyer and hired a doctor, Iyke Enemuo to treat him in a hotel.Enemuo died on August 22, 2014 and his wife and child have been quarantined while the diplomat recovered and returned to Lagos.Reports have it that Koye might face manslaughter charges due to his actions which more or less caused Enemuo’s death.

Sister Of Dead Ebola Doctor Escapes From Port Harcourt As 200 AreQuarantined In Rivers State.

According to SaharaReporters ,a sister of a Port Harcourt-based medical doctor, Iyke Enemuo, who recently died from the Ebola virus, fled to Abia State to avoid being quarantined along with others who came into contact with the late doctor. Former Bayelsa Gov,Timipre Sylva's Uncle Dies In Kidnappers Den.

Pa Benson Adigio-Eseni, the 87-year-old abducted uncle of the former Governor of Bayelsa State, Chief Timipre Sylva, has died in his captors’ den.
He was buried by the kidnappers in a shallow grave at the entrance of Kula community, a border town between Rivers and Bayelsa State.Though the state’s police command is ready to conduct autopsy on the remains to determine the cause of his death, a suspect apprehended by the police explained how the old man died.

The 27-year-old suspect identified as Nelson disclosed that their victim died in the creeks on August 14.Nelson, an indigene of Rofogbene in Burutu local government area of Delta State, said the octogenarian died before they collected N5million ransom from his family.

The suspect who claimed to have completed his secondary school said he was coerced by the leader of the gang to join in the criminality.Identifying their gang leader as Ebino, Nelson said they bought a Turaya phone from Robinson Plaza in Warri, Delta State, which they used to establish contact with their victim’s family and negotiate for ransom.After the deal, Nelson collected N250,000 as his share of the ransom.He, however, said the octogenarian would not have died if the gang leader had listened to their earlier pleas to let him go.Narrating how the old man died, he said: “We begged the leader to release the man because as at that time the family had refused to discuss ransom.“The old man looked sick. At night, while he was eating, he started choking and slumped. We rushed to his aid but he died before we could help him,”

Former Staff Of Gen TY Danjuma Defrauds Him To The Tune Of N2Billion.

The Special Fraud Unit (SFU) of the Nigerian Police yesterday charged a special assistant to former Defence Minister, Lt. Gen. T. Y. Danjuma (rtd), Mr. Manasseh Obadiah Zorto, before a Lagos federal high court  for allegedly defrauding his boss to the tune of about N2 billion.The accused, who was said to be on the run, could not be arraigned before Justice Okon Abang on Friday.When the matter came up, SFU lawyer, Chief Godwin Obla (SAN), told the court that the police were having challenges in bringing the accused to court.He said at the appropriate time, the police would apply for bench warrant for the arrest of the accused, but that the court should give the police more time to arrest him.“My lord, we are in court today so as not to allow the matter to be unattended to. We humbly pray the court to grant us more time to bring the accused to court for arraignment,” Obla said.“For now, we don’t want to apply for bench warrant but we will make more efforts to arrest the accused,” he added.Justice Abang consequently fixed October 2 for arraignment.According to the charge marked FHC/L/221C/14, the accused was said to have fraudulently used his position as an employee of Tita-Kuru Petrochemicals Ltd, T.Y Holdings Ltd and Central Realities Ltd, all companies linked to Danjuma, to steal about N2 billion from the firms.Zorto was said to have used his position as executive director and special assistant, finance and investment to the chairman of the companies (Danjuma) to perpetrate the alleged fraud.In the 19-count charge filed by the SFU, the accused was said to have defrauded the companies about N1.6 billion and $121, 468.

Northern Groups Warn Asari To Desist From Insulting Northerners.

Some Northern groups have risen to the defence of their political and religious leaders and warned the leader of the Niger Delta Volunteer Force, Alhaji Asari Dokubo, to desist from making uncomplimentary remarks against them. 

  The groups, Arewa Citizens Action for Change (ACAC) and Arewa Youth Development Foundation (AYDF), also urged President Goodluck Jonathan to call him to order.   In a statement issued yesterday by ACAC Director, Mallam Aminu Adam, and AYDF National President, Mallam Ali Usman, groups said they “have observed with great concern the persistent, unrestrained verbal attacks on the generality of the people of Northern Nigeria and their interests by Ijaw community’s trouble-shooter, Asari Dokubo.”  

According to them, “most recently, Dokubo, perhaps emboldened by government’s backing, has graduated to attacking the revered Sultan of Sokoto, the distinguished Emir of Kano and respected leaders like Generals Muhammadu Buhari and Ibrahim Babangida, and also our great politicians, Atiku Abubakar and Lawal Kaita”. 

  “We feel obliged to respond and to warn him to desist forthwith from uttering further uncomplimentary remarks against the north, its leaders, elders and people by reminding him that both he and his paymasters do not have monopoly of the apparatus of rascality.”   “While we join our brothers in urging the northern elders not to respond to utterances by Asari, we still warn him that we are equal to the task of protecting the interest of every northerner and ready to take on him anytime.”

3 Hotel Attendants Remanded In Kirikiri For Recording Customer's Sex Escapades.

Three hotel attendants, who allegedly recorded a customer’s sexual affair and demanded a ransom of N10 million, were on Thursday charged before an Ogudu Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.

The employees had used the hotel’s CCTV to record the guest’s sexual exploit with his girlfriend.The accused: Sunday Okon, 23; Rita Emmanuel, 28; and Goodness Akpan, 24, whose addresses are unknown, are facing a four-count charge of fraud, demanding property with menace, conspiracy and indecent practices.Prosecutor Uche Simon told the court that the accused had on Aug. 13 at a hotel in Ogudu area of Lagos conspired to record a guest while sleeping with his girlfriend.

According to him, the accused produced a VCD on it which they circulated to residents of the area.He alleged that they also demanded a N10 million ransom and threatened to post it on the facebook if the man failed to part with the money.

“The accused actually posted it on the facebook between Aug. 13 and 23.’’Simon said the offences contravened Sections 136, 166 (d), 299 and 409 of Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.The  accused may be sentenced to a minimum of three years each on conviction.The three men pleaded not guilty and were granted bail in the sum of N100, 000 each with two sureties each in like sum.

NAN also reports that the three attendants were taken to Kirikiri Prisons pending the fulfillment of their bail conditions.The Chief Magistrate, Mrs O. J. Awope, adjourned the case to Sept. 19 for mention. (NAN)-

Rivers State Gov.Rotimi Amaechi Speaks On The Outbreak Of Ebola Virus In PortHarcourt.

Rivers State Governor, Chibuike Amaechi, on Thursday, issued a statement on the recent challenge of the Ebola Virus Disease in the State.The Governor’s statement read in full:“My dear people of Rivers State, we woke up this morning to the sad confirmation that the dreaded ebola virus disease has claimed its first victim in Rivers State.

Dr. Iyke Sam Enemuo died last Friday, August 22, 2014 as a result of what was suspected to be ebola virus disease. The State Ministry of Health on becoming aware of the conditions of his death, immediately commenced investigations and contact tracing. As at today, about one hundred contacts from a hotel, patients of Dr. Enemuo and patients of the hospital where the late Enemuo was treated until his demise have been identified and restricted.

The different locations are being decontaminated.Our investigations reveal that:

1. A staff of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) on the team that received late Dr. Patrick Sawyer, the Liberian American diplomat who died of ebola haemorrhagic disease in Lagos, Nigeria made a trip to Port Harcourt where he checked into a hotel and met with Dr. Iyke Sam Enemuo.

2.About a week after his departure, Dr. Iyke Enemuo took ill and was rushed to a hospital with symptoms of fever, diarrhea and vomiting. In the course of treatment, the managing physician became suspicious and took blood samples for investigation.

3. A few days later, Dr. Iyke Enemuo died, precisely on August 22, 2014. Dr. Iyke Enemuo’s widow, who is also a medical doctor and who cared for him during his illness has taken ill. She is being quarantined.

4. The diplomat who was seen by late Dr. Iyke Enemuo is alive and well.There’s no need to panic. Everyone should remain calm and go about their normal businesses.

The Government of Rivers State is doing everything possible to contain the effects and spread of the ebola virus.We have the material and human resources we need to fight and defeat the deadly virus. Officials from the Federal Ministry of Health and other international agencies are already here working with the state ministry of health to contain and combat the virus.Now, we must all endeavour to adhere to basic hygiene rules.

Wash your hands regularly with soap and water and avoid unnecessary body contacts like shaking of hands.Anyone with symptoms indicative of diarrhea, high fever, vomiting, abdominal pain, excessive weakness of the body and unexplained bleeding, should call these our ebola emergency numbers:

9 Children Drown Trying To Escape Crisis Between Fulani & Eggon Tribes In Nasarawa.

 

 

 

 

Nine children, between the ages of two and ten, fleeing the renewed fighting that broke out Wednesday between the Fulani and Eggon tribes of Nasarawa state have drowned in the Guyaka River of Ughah in Assakio area of Lafia local government council of the state.

Confirming the incident to PREMIUM TIMES, Abdullahi Akye Magaji, the paramount ruler of Ugah, said the nine children were among 13 other kids attempting to escape the violence through the river.

Breaking News | Another Diplomat Has Taken Ebola To PortHarcourt.

The diplomat, who was part of the team who met with Patrick Sawyer in Lagos, flew to PortHarcourt, Rivers State for treatment, evading Nigerian federal government surveillance for the disease.
Liberian-American Patrick Sawyer, has died of Ebola in Nigeria.
The doctor, who is yet to be named, died on Friday. His wife has also taken ill and has been quarantined in Port Harcourt.
Interestingly, the diplomat the doctor treated is still alive.
The late doctor took the Diplomat to a hotel for treatment secretly.
As a result of this, 70 people have been
quarantined. The doctor's hospital, Good Heart Hospital in Rivers State, has been shut down. The unnamed hotel, where the secret treatment took place, has also been shut down.
The Minister of Health and the Rivers State government are expected to make a statement on the incident.

PDP presidential candidate to emerge November.

 

The Presidential flag-bearer of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, for the 2015 election would emerge November, three months to the election.
According to report, the National Working Committee, NWC, of the ruling party would conduct a Special National Convention to formally approve the appointment of Alhaji Adamu Muazu who took over from Alhaji Bamanga Tukur as PDP National Chairman in January 20, 2014.
