Things Fall Apart, the world best-selling novel by Nigerian author, Prof. Chinua Achebe, has been translated into Persian by Ali Hodavand and has been released in Iran.
Things Fall Apart is an English-language novel by Achebe, published in 1958.
It is seen as the archetypal modern African novel in English, and one of the first African novels written in English to receive global critical acclaim, according to IBNA.
It is a staple book in schools throughout Africa and widely read and studied in English-speaking countries around the world. The title of the novel comes from William Butler Yeats’s poem “The Second Coming”.
The novel depicts the life of Okonkwo, a leader and local wrestling champion in Umuofia — one of a fictional group of nine villages in Nigeria, inhabited by the Igbo people (archaically, and in the novel, “Igbo”).
It focuses on his family and personal history, the customs and society of the Igbo, and the influence of British colonialism and Christian missionaries on the Igbo community during the late nineteenth century.
The novel is studied widely in Europe and North America, where it has spawned numerous secondary and tertiary analytical works.

Andriy Shevchenko is to hang up his boots and head into the political arena

The 35-year-old striker, who played for the Ukraine at Euro 2012, made the announcement in a statement released by his club, Dynamo Kiev.
"This will probably shock everyone," Shevchenko said.
"My future will no longer be in football … I will be going into politics. I hope for your support," he added.
Shevchenko earned his reputation as one of Europe's most prolific strikers in two successful spells with AC Milan.
During his combined time with the Rossoneri, he scored 175 goals in 322 appearances and helped them lift the Champions League in 2002-03 and the Serie A title the following season.
His two stints with Milan sandwiched a three-year spell at Chelsea, although he struggled to make his mark at Stamford Bridge.
Shevchenko also won five league trophies with Dynamo having started - and now ended - his career there.
He is the all-time leading goalscorer with Ukraine's national team, netting 48 goals in 111 matches.

Paris And Prince Jackson's Mother Debbie Rowe Speak Out On Her Kids.

We haven't heard much from the biological mother of Michael Jackson's eldest kids, Paris and Prince, but with all the custody drama that has emerged Debbie Rowe has decided to voice her concerns.
Reportedly Debbie wishes Katherine Jackson would consult with her before making any changes to the agreement made before MJ died.
It has already been determined that the guardianship of the children will temporarily be given to TJ Jackson, the pop king's nephew.
According to the Daily News:
"Debbie would like Katherine to consult her before making any changes to the agreement they worked out together after Michael died," the source said. "This would set up a whole different dynamic. She needs to see more details."
Rowe raced back to southern California from a horse show last weekend when she heard family members reported Katherine missing, the source said.
While most have thought the 51 year old has had no involvment with the kids at all the site reports:
Though she handed Michael full custody of son Prince Michael, now 15, and daughter Paris, now 14, when they divorced in 1999, and didn't intervene after his death, Rowe has seen the kids on more than one occasion in the last three years, the source said.
The source continues:
"As long as Katherine is still actively involved (with the kids), there shouldn't be a problem. But they never agreed to let TJ be a decision maker. (Rowe) knows TJ from when he was little. She knows he's close to the kids. But she might ask for more custodial responsibility if he's making decisions she doesn't agree with,"
And the saga continues.
Hopefully all parties can reach a mutual agreement on the matter soon!

Mystery In Abuja: Patient Vomits Live Lizards In Hospital.

Hospital where the incident occurred, Asuelimen and The lizards

A strange incident is scaring the residents of a community near the Federal Capital Territory.
The residents of Kubwa, a community on the outskirts of Abuja, got the shock of their lives when an unusual incident involving a businessman occurred about two weeks ago.
The businessman, Edward Asuelimen, had woken up in the morning of July 16 with severe pain in his stomach.
“I woke up a few minutes after 5 am. In less than two hours, I had visited the toilet four times. Then I felt excruciating pain in my stomach. It got to a point where I could hardly prepare my children for school,” Asuelimen recounts.
Even his wife was very worried. But he managed to pull himself together and left their home with the children.
Halfway to the children’s school, the pain became unbearable and he decided to get some drugs from a store on the way.
Yet, a few minutes later, Asuelimen barely managed to walk out of the store by gripping the walls for support.
“I prayed hard to get back home. Anybody who saw me at that point wouldn’t have believed that there was something wrong with me,” he says.
He kept praying and fighting the pain raging in his stomach until he got home. He was so weak that he could not step out of his car.
Asuelimen’s wife was alarmed at his condition. She suggested that he should seek medical attention in a hospital after he gasped and said, “Help me quickly, I can’t breathe.”
The businessman had no choice other than to listen to his wife. Eventually, he was admitted at Unity Clinic and Maternity Home, which was nearby.
At intervals, his panic-stricken wife called out his name just to be sure that he was still alive.
“I had never experienced that kind of pain before. I was merely hanging on with all my strength and faith in God. At the hospital, the medical director and his staff were already having their morning devotion.
“When my wife called the doctor and he helped me to come out of my car, the only thing I could say was, ‘my tommy, my tummy’ I was given an injection and somebody stayed with me, all the while praying as the rest continued the morning devotion.
“The Holy Spirit pushed me to speaking in tongues at that point. Not long afterwards, I felt a strong urge to vomit and I did.”
Asuelimen vomited two live lizards in the hospital. The incident however caused consternation among members of the staff of the hospital and other patients present.
“When my wife tried to get something to clean my mouth and pack it, I saw a lizard crawling out from the vomit on the ground. The nurse that attended to me saw another one and wanted to kill it,” he says.
When he saw the lizards, the first thought that struck him was that he had been poisoned. But the pain ceased after he vomited the reptiles. The doctor told him that he had just received divine healing.
“I got well almost instantly. Even I joined the hospital staff in burning the lizards. I went home had my bath and continued the day’s business as if nothing had happened to me,” he says.
The news of the event spread like wildfire. Soon Asuelimen started receiving phone calls from his friends, relatives, neighbours and associates. They congratulated him for surviving a close shave with death.
Eventually, the incident became the talk among the residents of Kubwa. Everybody seemed to be mystified and for some time, they discussed the incident in hushed tones.
The lizards are sstill the subject of debate in the community and the residents are torn between accepting the mystery and waving it aside, since they are convinced that it cannot be proved scientifically.

Jigawa State Governor's Daughter Is Seeking To Divorce Her Husband Hon.Rep Member Musa Sarki -Adar

As the month of Ramadan gets underway, the daughter of Governor Sule Lamido of Jigawa, Hadiza Sarki-Adar, has approached the Kubwa Upper Area Court, Abuja, to dissolve her marriage to Representative, Musa Sarki-Adar.
Hadiza told the court that she was seeking the divorce because she had lost interest in the union.
But the governor's inlaw, Sarki-Adar, who represents Gada/Goronyo Federal Constituency of Sokoto State, objected to the petition, arguing that there was no reason for it.
"We have been married since 2007 and lived amicably until April 1, 2010, when Hadiza packed out of the matrimonial home without any provocation," he said.
"All efforts to settle the issue remained unsuccessful as she insisted on putting an end to the union."
Sarki-Adar suggested that Hadiza be sent for a psychiatric evaluation, as her actions appeared abnormal.
The presiding judge, Alhaji Mohammed Lawal, turned down the suggestion, saying there was no basis for it.
Dissatisfied, Sarki-Ada said he would like to take the psychiatric matter to the Upper Sharia Court in Dutse.
The case was then adjourned indefinitely, pending the pronouncement of the court in Dutse.

Senate President ,David Mark Thinks Nigerians Use Social Media To Insult Her Leaders.

Senator David Mark, the Nigerian Senate President on Thursday called for a check on the use of the social media in the country, saying that people now use them to demean their leaders. Senator Mark was speaking in Umuahia, Abia State, while declaring open a two-day retreat for Senate Press corps.
The senator said the need to check the social media became necessary, as they do not have the avenue for retraction of whatever they have done. While acknowledging that that the media has come to stay, as part of the process of governance in the country, since the return of democratic government in 1999 and performing its social responsibility of checking the excesses of the leaders, Senator Mark however, urged reporters to always cross check their facts before writing so as not to mislead the people, who depend on them to know what goes on around them.
In proving his point, the Senate President cited as examples varied figures usually quoted by various media in times of tragedies, saying that the figures were always inconsistent. Describing the media as one of the stabilizing factors in the scheme of things, Mark cautioned that Nigerian social media users should learn how to always say positive things about their country.
In his words, “we need to change our attitude on how we report things about our country, and we should emulate the foreign reporters, who never report negative things about their countries.”
