Large turnout at pre-election trial in Niger

There was a high turnout of registered voters at the pre-election trial of the card reader devices by the Independent National Electoral Commission in Niger on Saturday.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that residents of Egwa-Gwada area of Shiroro Local Government Area started coming out as early as 8am to participate in the exercise.

BREAKING: Suicide bomber strikes in Maiduguri market, kills many.

At least 10 persons are feared killed in a bomb explosion from a suicide bomber riding in a Keke Napep in Maiduguri.
The explosion, which occurred at a crowded commercial area in Maiduguri, went off about an hour ago.
Witnesses said many people were affected. The suicide bomber tried to enter Baga fish market motor park, residents said.
A top security officer, who requested not to be named because he is not authorised to speak to the media, confirmed this to PREMIUM TIMES.
“About ten persons were confirmed killed so far but the blast was massive”, said the security officer. “We are still taking count of casualties.”
The police in Maiduguri could not be reached at this time to comment for this story.

Muslim & Christian Religious Leaders In The Inter Faith Prayer Forums To Hold Special Prayers For Jonathan And Sambo.

Muslim and Christian religious leaders in the Inter-faith Prayer Forum are to hold a joint prayer rally for President Goodluck Jonathan and Vice President Namadi Sambo in Abuja on March 20.
The organizers said churches and mosques taking part in the prayer session number more than 3,000.
Archbishop Leonard Kawas and Sheik Dan Zanga, joint leaders of the prayer forum made this known when they paid a courtesy call on the Director General of the Peoples Democratic Party Presidential Campaign Organisation, Dr Ahmadu Ali, in Abuja.
Spokesman of the Inter-faith Prayer Forum, Kawas said they are in support of the administration of Jonathan and applauded the PDP-led administration for doing “great works.”
According to him, no one can ascend the presidency if he does not have the blessing of God and that is why religious leaders have been praying ceaselessly for the present administration.
“Koran and the Bible agree on the fact that only God Almighty gives power,” he said.
