News and Gist Blog in Nigeria,
Before you call me out, can you confirm that Chief Ortom has allegedly picked former Commissioner and onetime NTA Board Chairman, Engr Benson Abuonu As his running mate,
Someone called me privately to inform me of this development, am yet to confirm.
Even though the APC governor ship flag bearer tuzzle is in court, Ortom is confident of emerging as the flag bearer of the party.
While APC is still trying to sort this out Ortom might have settled for Benson.
Benson served as a commissioner in Sen Akume's regime as Governor, he was also a onetime Board Chairman of NTA.He hails from Apa local ggovernment.
Abuonu i know is very hardworking and ok for the job.
Before primaries PDP Primaries‘’
One of my fans has been disturbing me to post this statement by CSO.
Please read the following remarks by Samuel Ortom, today he seeks to be governor on this Muslim platform.
My dear good people of Benue, over the past few months; I have been plagued by calls from various groups for me to contest for the office of Governor of our great state.
These calls have humbled me as they go a great way to show how much believe and trust the good people of Benue have in my person and abilities.
It is on the basis of these calls and the good works of our Governor that I have offered myself up to contest for the office of Governor. You see, I was once a motor park boy, loading passengers in the motor park.
I have been at the lowest ebb of society, I have seen poverty yet, I have not allowed the antics of poverty or my situation hold me down. I have come from the lowly state to become a Cabinet Minister.
If I can do this, so can you. I have put together a highly sophisticated plan that will transform Benue State into a hub of international business.
Let me state here that at the core of our development agenda is job creation. As an individual, I have about 400 people employed in my businesses.
As Governor of Benue State, I will bring my job creation skills to bear and create jobs for the teeming Benue Youth. Before I end, I must thank the Executive Governor of Benue State, Mr Infrastructure, Rt Hon. Gabriel Torwua Suswam who has done so well for this great state of Benue.
He has worked so hard that we sometimes wonder what the next governor will do because he has done practically everything. Don’t mind the opposition, the Aggrieved Politicians Congress. They are bent on tarnishing the good image of our governor but Benue people know better.
They have nothing to offer to the good people of Benue State. My people, we must not allow the likes of Akume and co drag us into opposition politics; we must stay in the mainstream, which is where the future is.
Why must Benue which is the melting point of northern politics join the Muslim boko haramic party? We reject APC, the Muslim conspiracy and we camp with the People’s Democratic Party, the biggest party in Africa. PDP is here to stay. Yes to PDP, no to the opposition. Thank you and thank you. PDP, Power to the people’’

Dep Gov of Benue State Chief Steve Lawani has described as a mere rumour aimed at smearing his political career the claim that he has perfected a defection plan to an opposition party any time soon to realize his governorship ambition.
Speaking through his Press Secretary, Ejimbe Oguche, Lawani yesterday told newsmen unambiguously that as a loyal party man, he has no intention of dumping the party and has actually put the outcome of the party primaries behind him in the overall interest of the state and the party.
Oguche quoted him as sincerely expressing his deep appreciation to Benue people, delegates and the party for their overwhelming support during the party primaries and lauded the confidence of his supporters and delegates in massively voting for him, urging them not to continue keeping faith with the party.
Lawani assured that he would continue to justify the confidence of his supporters by always providing them the necessary leadership, while also counting on their support.
No fewer than five persons have been killed and several villages destroyed in Agatu Local government area of the Benue state during a renewed attack by suspected Fulani militia. The PUNCH gathered that there have been silent killings of Agatu farmers by armed militia suspected to be Fulani. Investigation by our Correspondent ggv that as at Monday, hundreds of Agatu farmers were displaced from their ancestral homes, just as schools and churches were closed to avert further destruction of lives and properties.
The member representing Agatu state constituency in the state assembly, Alhaji Sule Audu told newsmen that the heinous attack occurred on Sunday.
According to him, the natives were preparing to go to church when the insurgents unleashed the mayhem.
Audu maintained that several houses in various communities including the Adeka and olegadeje villages were completely destroyed. The lawmaker added that farm lands and properties were also damaged in the renewed attack.
He however, appealed to constituents to remain calm as serious efforts were on to provide succor and also fish out the perpetrators. The lawmaker urged the state government to provide relief to the displaced persons. Efforts to speak with the Benue state Police Commissioner Mr Hyacinth Dagala proved abortive as he did not pick calls and text messages put across to him.

A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has been asked to stop the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from presenting one Christian Abah as its candidate for election into the House of Representatives for the Ado, Okpokwu and Ogbadibo federal constituency of Benue State.
The plaintiff in the suit, Hassan Saleh, through his counsel, Emeribe Mathias, alleged that Abah forged the National Diploma (ND) certificate he submitted to the PDP upon which he was cleared to participate in the primaries to select the party’s candidate for election.
Abah won the highest votes at the party’s primaries held on December 6, 2014 to select PDP’s candidate for election into the constituency. However, Saleh, who came second in the primaries, is alleging that the certificate presented by Abah was a forgery.
Saleh is asking the court to declare that the National Diploma certificate in Accountancy purportedly obtained in August, 1986 by Abah from the Federal Polytechnic, Mubi in Adamawa State, which was presented to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), was forged.
He also asked the court to hold that Abah was not qualified to present himself for the primaries of the PDP by virtue of the fact that the document he presented to INEC was forged. The plaintiff asked the court to declare that the clearance given to Abah by PDP was null and void and of no effect in as much as it failed to comply with the party’s electoral guidelines and the 1999 Constitution as amended.
