Three Nigerians have participated and won one of the biggest TV reality shows in Africa known as Big Brother Africa, the African version of the Big Brother reality game show. Each country provides a contestant living in an isolated house while trying to avoid being evicted by viewers and ultimately winning a large cash prize at the end of the show. Kevin Chuwang Pam:

Kevin Pam has a BA in English Language and has 7 siblings. He's proud to be Nigerian because Nigerians stand out and survive any situation - "which is why you will find a Nigerian almost anywhere." Kevin is also a Manchester United fan whose hobbies include rapping. He once said if he wins Big Brother Revolution, he will spend his money on creating an entertainment empire and will share some of it with friends and family who have stood by him. He got married to one of his housemates and is blessed with a daughter.

When our reporter sought to find out from the winner he said things has not been so rosy because he now has more responsibilities.

"Life has been great since BBA, just a few challenges which revolves around balancing the new lifestyle with principles that have always governed my life. I'm a family man now so it means more responsibilities and demands. As most people know we were blessed with a baby girl (Malaika)so the necessary adjustments are important to us so as to give her (and the ones to come)the best while pursuing our careers.

But so far we have been working on our NGO (Naija Pikin) where we have been trying to see that the basic needs of the Nigerian/African child is met. We have done stuff like celebrating Malaika's first year birthday with the refugees in Riyom handing out relief materials to affected communities in the Jos crisis, celebrating Valentine's Day with orphans etc. Besides all these, Elizabeth has made her debut in Nollywood as an actress and her first movie should premier soon.

I on the other hand still do my anchoring of events and run my Entertainment outfit called "Down To Earth" and it is under that platform that I'm starting a talent reality show in Jos called "Jos Bring It On" in July where I hope to scout for fresh and upcoming talents from the tin city. Lastly, my book is set to be released later in the year. In a nutshell life is good because God has been faithful.' He emphasized.

Uti Nwachukwu:

The Nigerian actor, TV presenter, model and MC from Lagos and LEADERSHIP Young Person of the Year 2011 best known as one of the 12 housemates on the third season of Big Brother Africa, in 2008.

He returned to Big Brother Africa in 2010 as one of the 14 "All Stars" of Season 5, entitled Big Brother All Stars.

Uti, who appeared in a multi-national billboard advert in 2007, holds a two-year diploma in Computer Science and Education from the University of Nigeria.

The one-time bank employee appeared on the Nigerian reality series Next Movie Star, which he finished as the runner-up, before being selected for Big Brother Africa 3.

Listing his mom and dad as his heroes, Uti says the best advice he's received from a friend was, "happiness is a state of mind and it usually begins with a choice."

Uti is now a presenter on Jara, a TV programme and is loved by fans, even when there was rumour about him having an affair with Nollywood actress Beverly Naya.

A fan of Chelsea Football Club, he dislikes people going through his stuff, liars, manual labour and arrogant people.

His favourite quote: "Those who dare to fail miserably are the ones who often succeed greatly" echoes his belief in life and he says people describe him as a "cocktail of personalities."

There was a report that there have been calls from several Nigerians to make Uti Nwachukwu, the BBA All Stars winner, one of the Nigerian Tourism Development Corporation (NDTC) ambassadors, but the director-general of the corporation, Mr Segun Runsewe "will have none of that. His reason. "This guy plaits his hair and wears ear rings, which I consider unAfrican."

Uti hates it when "people try to list your faults even though they have their own".

He was born on August 3, 1982; was the last born to a family of six and was raised in Ughelli and Sapele in Delta State, Nigeria.

He went to Igbinedion Education Centre from 93-99 where he was a very popular and focused student as he was made social prefect in both junior and senior secondary school. He began his further education at the University of Nigeria where he received a diploma in Computer Science and Education before heading to Benson Idahosa University Benin City, to get a Bachelors in Computer Science and Education while shuffling in and out of Lagos to join his siblings and pursue a career in the entertainment industry.

Whilst Uti was still at university, the much coveted entertainment jobs he was seeking started to trickle in and before he knew it, he was a regular in music videos, modelling in Billboard adverts and getting his first acting break, as a contestant in "The Next Movie Star"reality TV Contest in which he was the first runner up and which led to him getting parts in a few small screen Productions.

It was also during his time at university that Uti landed a much coveted place in the Big Brother 3 house, the opportunity that has brought him to where he is today. Despite Big Brother and the regular work he was getting, Uti still managed to graduate at the Top of his Class in 2009 with a 3.9 GPA, much to the amazement of his peers.

Uti rocketed to International fame in 2008 after he was selected as the Nigerian housemate in Big Brother Africa 3. Despite not winning this put Uti on the international map which opened doors of opportunities for him all over Africa.

After Big Brother 3, Uti starred in two blockbuster movies "Fear Not" and "Bursting out". Uti also launched his anchoring profession by hosting events in Nigeria and Uganda as well as a popular television show called "U& I". 2010 was the breakout year for Uti.

When he landed the role of controversial character 'Marcus' on MNET's Tinsel Season 3.

He also surprised audiences in the summer of 2010 as he released his first single 'go down.

Uti further surprised audiences by participating in the 2010 Big Brother Africa series 5 dubbed the "BIG BROTHER AFRICA ALL STARS" edition. Former housemates that didn't win the previous editions were asked to come back for a final shot at double the original prize money. The biggest, the baddest and the boldest former housemates across Africa stormed the show.

The odds seemed to be against Uti during the show taking into consideration that a Nigerian had won the previous Edition and most especially when he lost his father during the broadcast of the show. Uti stuck to his guns, held his own and beat the odds, Finally after 3 months in the Big Brother house, Uti emerged as the ultimate winner-the REAL winner of Big Brother Africa all Stars!

Shortly after his return to Nigeria Uti has been a whirlwind of success and inspiration to the Youth as he has been involved in various Top quality features.

He surprised Nigerians again with his online radio and video release of his second single - "Once in My Life. A deep and mellow rock song. The video was shot in May 2011 and was released in summer of 2011 to much admiration of music fans around the continent. The song later won an NMVA(Nigerian music video award) for best soft rock/ alternative video in November 2011.

He hosted the 2010 Sound City Music Video Awards, and other reputable shows like Exqusite Awards, Neddlekraft Fashion Show,City Peoples Fashion Awards,Children of Haggai charity show and much more

He was on the runway of the huge international Arise fashion week 2011 and 2012, in where the audience went frantic with every appearance.

Uti is now the face and TV presenter of MNET's Africa Magic's new popular magazine show called "Jara" the most watched entertainment news show in Africa.

He has also starred in various big budget movie productions such as the Desmond Elliot directed feature, in the cupboard from the popular stables of Emem Isong's Royal Arts Academy, to Broken Silence and Weekend Getaway all directed by Desmond Elliot.

There is also True Citizen and the upcoming 2013 flick fracture (starring Uti and Monalisa Chinda) plus a new unreleased fun directed by Lancelot Imasuen titled deep inside and red hot directed by the critically acclaimed action movie Director Teco Benson .

All these movies and many more to come in 2013 are said to set Uti as a bona fade new talent in Nollywood.

Karen Igho

Big Brother Amplified winner, Karen Igho, is one lady who is absolutely hard to ignore, though highly controversial but strong and determined in the face of it all.

In 2011, she carted away the top prize of $200,000 as winner of the coveted Reality TV show alongside her co-winner Wendall. She was the first woman from Nigeria to win the Big Brother Africa show and the third Nigerian to win it in a row since 2009.

Though from the outset she was not given a chance as a contestant because people did not warm to her, but her Nigeria fans made sure she won the game joining her fellow Nigerians Kevin Pam and Uti Nwachukwu.

Before she went into the Big Brother house, she was a model.

Born in Nigeria, Karen attended Federal Government College, Jos before going to London to study Business Administration at Southwark College.

Life after the BBA has been wonderful for Karen as she recently landed a gig as an On-Air Personality at Naija FM where she hosts a show called Wetin Dey with Ifektive, proving that she can do well not just on TV, but also on Radio. She is also a lady with interesting blend of Pidgin and English.

In a recent interview she said life hasn't been easy since the big brother star game "I've been really busy and sometimes it gets to me. But I thank God for giving me this opportunity. I had no idea what Uti went through. Poor Uti. Uti and Kevin, you tried.

But one thing I've realised, when I see my fans come up to me, I know that I'm loved; that somewhere, somebody loves me. Even though I don't know the person, it feels good. Even though I'm upset, I would start gisting with the person and it makes me feel better.

"I've been going around Nigeria, presenting and hosting shows in Abuja, Calabar, Port-Harcourt, Warri, Benin, Asaba. I'm going to South Africa soon.

"I'm now working with Naija FM 102.7 on a show called Wetin Dey which I co-host with Ifektive. I'm just me, the normal me, always. I get worried sometimes, you know how it is when you've never done something before."

She is a great personality.

Althouth - a contestant on Big Brother in 2012 who passed away recently the late Goldie would have been a great addition to the game winners, the fans knew best. On behalf of the participants of the Big Brother African show, we say may her soul rest in peace.

Open Letter to Governor Gabriel Suswam.

BEFORE YOU APPOINT YOUR COMMISSIONERS;
Your Excellency,

I was woken up from sleep by a phone call, yesterday night, from a friend who wanted to confirm the breaking news of a cabinet dissolution in Benue State. At first, I dismissed it as a mere recurrent rumour; however, I was to confirm the news a couple of hours later. I am therefore prompted to write you this open letter before your party lobbyists, loyalists, stalwarts and chieftains besiege you with requests, demands and desires.

It may be necessary to define my "interest" in all of these, considering that I am an active participant and sympathizer of the cause of the opposition in the state; I am a bona fide citizen of the State and I have genuine interest, among others, in the equitable development cum evolution of a decent cityscape/built environment in our dear state. This has, in time past, informed my commentaries on the workings of your government in areas of construction contract administration and projects execution by your government. As a trained Architect, I will constrain my comments to the areas where I have the capacity to do so.

I want to thus commend you for sacking the trio of the Commissioners for Works; that of Lands and Survey as well as that of Housing and Urban Development. This should, however, not be misconstrued to mean an indictment on the character of the individuals involved, which I may not be privy to, rather it is a categorical indictment of their professional competence to man these otherwise professionalized ministries. To buttress my point, just imagine the scenario of appointing an accomplished and prudent Architect as your Commissioner for Justice AND ATTORNEY GENERAL OF THE STATE!! Without sounding unnecessarily biased, these ministries, among a few others, should naturally be manned by seasoned professionals and not necessarily politicians.

In the very recent past, I had cause to criticize your government on your approach to construction contracts administration as well as due diligence in over sighting the execution of projects in the state - key among them being the yet ongoing Benue State University Law Faculty building (which I am told, should have been delivered in November 2012, later shifted to January 2013 and now to???) and the very shoddily executed works at the Benue State University Teaching Hospital all Makurdi. You simply cannot expect to get it right when the highest decision making body in the executive is lacking in the key personnel competent to advise government accordingly, without fear or favour. You simply cannot get it when you do not have Architects, Engineers or indeed any member of the building team and/or the construction industry in your kitchen cabinet!!

Recall, at the national level, when Tony Anenih held sway at Works Ministry, a whooping three hundred billion Naira appropriated for roads (re)construction was reported misappropriated (?); now we have an Architect at the helm of affairs and the story is different. At least and for the first time in a very long while, roads were rehabilitated for the festive period that usually witnesses the highest amount of traffic on our roads.

Back home in Benue, the "planning misadventure" effected at the ACHUSA LAYOUT in Makurdi, characterized by bare-faced greed and purposelessness on the part of the Lands and survey Ministry, with the endorsement of the Commissioner in charge, is something that should not be contemplated in a city like Makurdi of the 21st century.

The perpetual lack of character of ALL towns in Benue State; the persistent haphazard "growth" of Makurdi and other towns; the inner city decay without effective actions or attempts at URBAN RENEWAL in our first class towns; the seemingly uncontrolled and potentially implosive springing up of shopping complexes in Makurdi (in particular) et al, are the results you get when you sacrifice professionalism in the MINISTRY OF HOUSING AND URBAN DEVELOPMENT on the altar of political patronage.

The poor and shoddy execution of government projects; the unnecessary and unwarranted need to employ individuals or firms as "global project consultants" with corresponding cost implication on a cash trapped State like ours; the ill-informed manner of constructing roads such that they ultimately become avenues for inhibiting the free flow of neighbouring drainage systems as witnessed with the INTERNATIONAL MARKET ROAD PROJECT et al, is what you get when your MINISTRY OF WORKS has incompetent leadership and/or leadership bereft of its core obligations.

You should not be tempted to go with the barest minimum requirement as stipulated in section 192(4) and elaborated in section 106, especially S106(4) of the amended 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, for very obvious reasons. Rather, you may need to pay closer attention to Section 193(2a & 2c) and be convinced beyond reasonable doubt that the would-be commissioners are in the mould of the expectations thereto. I therefore make bold to state that this time around you should endeavour to appoint in these three ministries, any of the following professionals:

· MINISTRY OF HOUSING AN URBAN DEVELOPMENT – An ARCON Registered ARCHITECT, qualified to practice Architecture, as a principal partner, in Nigeria. His professional affiliation and cognate experience can be of immense benefit to the state.

· MINISTRY OF WORKS (AND TRANSPORT?) – An experienced and COREN certified ENGINEER.

· MINISTRY OF LANDS AND SURVEY: - A SURCON Registered surveyor, A duly Registered Urban and Regional Planner, A TOPREC Registered Town Planner or even An ARCON Registered Architect.
You may wish to avoid the temptation of operating, in this information age, as though we were still in the Stone Age Sir; your party the PDP, in Benue State, I should assume, is not lacking in any of the aforementioned professionals. If however you are faced with the bad fortune of not getting anyone fitting within, you may wish to extend it beyond the State and even beyond the borders of our country for the Diasporas as well - for all those who actively or passively subscribe to the cause of your political party, PDP.
With a focused leadership, these can help reverse the negative course that the former may have caused the ship of the State to sail. The best time to have drawn a line between Political expedition and Professional capacity to deliver "democratic dividends" was June 2007; however, the next better time to do it is NOW!! The ball is in your court and the buck stops at your table; endeavour to do the RIGHT THING.

David Cameron is encouraging Barack Obama to leave his wife Michelle at home when he attends the G8 Summit in the UK this year.
British sources say the Prime Minister wants the summit in June to be WAG-free to ensure leaders remain 'focused' on issues like tackling tax avoidance, without the distraction of having their wives and girlfriends in tow.
Diplomats have begun the delicate process of enquiring whether the spouses of the world's most powerful individuals are happy to be left behind during one of the highlights of the global political calendar.

Samantha will break from tradition and not provide an alternative list of activities for wives and girlfriends of the G8 leaders
It is being made clear that Samantha Cameron plans to break with G8 tradition and not host a separate programme of activities for visiting wives.
If the ploy is successful it means that the likes of Michelle Obama and Valerie Trierweiler, girlfriend of France's Socialist President Francois Hollande, will not attend the summit, being held at the luxury Lough Erne resort in Northern Ireland.

Oscar Pistorius Gets Bail.

A judge just granted Oscar Pistorius bail, saying the Olympian is not a flight risk.  And the bail was set at $112,771.Pistorius was in court along with 2 members of Reeva Steenkamp's family as the decision went down.  Pistorius' family and friends were cheering the decision in the courtroom.The judge said it was highly improbable Pistorius could flee the country, given his fame and the fact that he's a double amputee.  As Pistorius' lawyer noted, going through airport security would trigger multiple alarms.And, the judge said, the prosecutor did not prove Pistorius had a propensity for violence meaning he would probably not kill again while out on bail. Before ruling, the judge asked the prosecutor an interesting question If Pistorius' story was that he believed an intruder was in his bathroom, why didn't he "stage" a break-in to make his story more believable?  The prosecutor conceded, "The fact that we have only one survivor of that tragic night is difficult for the state."The prosecutor argued ... proving premeditation doesn't mean Pistorius had to plan the murder the night before ... "He planned it that night when she locked herself in [the bathroom].Pistorius' lawyer suggested that the charge should be lowered -- to "culpable homicide" -- meaning the Olympian didn't have the intent to kill Steenkamp at all but that it was a "tragic mistake."And Pistorius' running coach said before today's hearing if he gets out on bail, he'll train Pistorius to "get his mind kind of clear."

Mimiko,Obi,Ladoja Set To Defect To P.D.P.

Ondo State Governor, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko; his Anambra counterpart, Mr. Peter Obi; and a former Governor of Oyo State, Alhaji Rashidi Ladoja, may soon defect to the ruling Peoples Democratic Party.

Competent sources at the national headquarters of the party said on Friday that the party had concluded arrangements to have these men in its fold.

Mimiko was a member of the PDP before he defected to the Labour Party in 2006 to contest the governorship election in his state.

He had wanted to contest the election under the umbrella of the PDP but then President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo insisted that Dr. Olusegun Agagu would run for a second term.

The insistence of Obasanjo made Mimiko to resign his ministerial position and defect to the LP.

Though the Independent National Electoral Commission declared Agagu as the winner of the election, the Court of Appeal sitting in Benin later reversed the decision and proclaimed Mimiko the authentic winner.

Mimiko, who also defeated other governorship candidates, including that of the PDP, Chief Olusola Oke and that of the Action Congress of Nigeria, Chief Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, in the 2012 governorship election, will be sworn in on Sunday to begin his second term in office.

A member of the National Working Committee of the PDP, who spoke in confidence with our correspondent in Abuja on Friday, said discussions had been concluded with Mimiko on his return to the party.

Mimiko, he said, would be made the leader of the ruling party in the South-West, with the mandate to reconcile aggrieved members of party in the zone.

Not only that, he said the governor, who after defection, would be the only governor of the PDP in the entire six states in the zone, will also be saddled with the responsibility of mobilising for the party in the zone.

The source said, "Mimiko is coming to the PDP. That is certain. Though we have not agreed on any date for his official defection, I can tell you authoritatively that we have concluded agreements on this.

"His coming would also help us in the South-West because of the coming governorship elections in Ekiti and Osun states. We need to win at least one of the two states.

"Mimiko is going to be the leader of the party in the zone, because right now, the party is in disarray due to a lot of factions and court cases arising from the zonal congress of the party, which was nullified by the court."

The plan to have Mimiko back in the PDP was said to have been hatched by Chief Ebenezer Babatope and Senator Bode Olajumoke.

The two men were said to have convinced President Goodluck Jonathan on the need for Mimiko to return to the party.

If he returns, he may do so with members of the LP in both the National Assembly and the Ondo State House of Assembly.

However, Mimiko and Obi said they had no plans to dump their respective platforms for the PDP.

Ondo State Commissioner for Information, Mr. Kayode Akinmade, said, "There is no iota of truth in the story. It was planted by the opposition to discredit our inauguration.

"We are focused on our inauguration and we will not give in to any form of distraction from anybody or group seeking cheap political relevance."

Chief Press Secretary to the Anambra governor, Mr. Mike Udah, said, "Governor Obi is sitting pretty in APGA. He is comfortable in the party.

"If he was moving out of APGA, he would not have taken steps to defend APGA, as he has been doing since he returned from his foreign trip, and ensuring that the party's National Working Committee is reconstituted."

Intruder Arrested For Trying To Enter Rihanna's House.

Cops say the man never entered Rihanna's home but entered the home next door believing it was Rihanna's home. He was arrested outside of that property ... not Rihanna's home.The intruder was arrested outside of Rihanna's Southern California home in the Pacific Palisades after neighbors saw the guy snooping around and apprehended him Thursday night ... TMZ has learned. Law enforcement sources revealed that the suspect has told police someone emailed him instructions on how to get into the home ... so he rolled over to the property and followed the directions the instructions worked ... because the man was able to get inside the home where he allegedly snooped around for a while before neighbors noticed something was up.. Neighbors went over to the home and confronted the man and eventually detained him when they realized he didn't belong there. Police were called to the scene and took the man into custody. The man is currently being investigated for burglary.

Fire Burns Relief Materials Worth N500Million For Flood Victims In Makurdi.

History has repeated itself in Benue state. Relief materials meant for displaced persons who suffered from last year's flooding have been allegedly damaged by fire.

An afternoon inferno engulfed a block of three classrooms in Makurdi Benue State, housing relief materials meant for last year flood victims.

After the Tiv-Jukun crisis in 2001, relief materials donated by different groups remained in the store house until soldiers burnt them.

Some residents attributed the fire out break to a wielding fault which sparked off fire inside the classroom.

Men of the state fire service struggled hard to put out the fire which destroyed most of the materials just as officials of the State Emenrgency Relief Management Agency were seen trying to remove some un burnt materials.

Security men also worked hard to wade off some residents who trooped to the area with the intention to loot the materials.

Speaking to journalists on the incidence, the executive secretary of the State Emergency Management Agency, Mr. Adikpo Agbatse lamented over the development, confirming that all materials in the classroom meant for flood victim was almost reduced to ashes.

However, a victim of the flood Mr. John Adamu who resides in Angwan Jukum, Wurukum area of  Makurdi, accused the state government officials of sabotage.

He wondered why materials meant for distribution to the victims should be kept in a store when it should be disbursed to them, noting that it is a plot to divert the materials.

Ghana defender John Paintsil has been arrested by the Legon Police in Accra for allegedly stabbing his wife, Richlove, in the eye on Friday afternoon.
The 31-year-old has been denied bail and is likely to spend the weekend in police cells to help with investigations, the Greater Accra Regional Police Command has confirmed to Goal.com.
The police have also confirmed they are holding the former Fulham and West Ham player for assault and causing harm.

 According to reports, Paintsil was confronted by his wife following rumours he slept with some prostitutes during the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations tournament in South Africa.
The allegation was first made by football enthusiast and social commentator Appiah Kofi popularly known as Appiah Stadium in a radio interview.

Appiah alleged that the veteran defender was responsible for bringing women to the Black Stars camp to have intimate intercourse with them and this culminated in the team's poor output at the Afcon.
Paintsil, however, denied the allegation and threatened to drag Appiah Stadium to court to clear his name.

The wife of the defender is reported to have questioned Paintsil on several occasions since the issue broke, but the former West Ham defender lost his temper on Friday and attacked his wife stabbing her in the eye.

Speaking to Accra-based Citi FM, the Public Relations Officer of the Accra Police Command, DSP Freeman Tettey said: "This is a clear case of causing harm to a fellow human being."
"He will be taken to court. We can assure you that. We are holding him for causing harm. We need to do proper investigations. It's too early to get to the realm of court issues."

Paintsil also attacked a neighbour who attempted to rescue his wife, according to police.
The wife is said to be unconscious after sustaining serious injuries to her eye and is currently at a nearby hospital receiving treatment.

Dame Patience Has Bragged That 100 Opposition Parties Can Never Defeat PDP In 2015 Also Says There's No Vacancy In Aso Rock In 2013.

Wife of President Goodluck Jonathan, Dame Patience Jonathan Thursday boasted that 100 political parties put together can never defeat the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, come 2015 presidential election.
Also Thursday aspirations of some politicians to the most exalted position in the land may have been dashed as the PDP through the National Women's Leader, Dr. Kema Chikwe disclosed that as a party, it will bring out President Goodluck Jonathan to contest for the position in 2015.
Both Dame Patience Jonathan and Chikwe spoke at the presentation of "PDP Women in power" calendar 2013 in Abuja.
Chikwe, a member of the National Working Committee, NWC, of the party explained that with President Jonathan coming out as the party's candidate in 2015, it would increase women participation in politics by 50 percent.

She said: "We are even more confident that when President Goodluck Jonathan returns in 2015, women would be talking about 50 percent, no longer 35 percent. As we give him unequivocal, undiluted, unreserved and unlimited support and as we march with him to 2015, PDP women will reach the promised land."
The national women's leader while emphasising the position of PDP, however urged the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Pius Anyim, who represented President Jonathan at the occasion to tell the President that PDP women were behind him.
Kema said, "tell him that PDP women in every nook and cranny, wherever we are, young or old, beautiful or ugly, tall or short, small or big, we are chatting to Nigerians: all we are saying, give us Goodluck.
"We need to start moving fast to prepare women for future elections. Until we elect 35 percent or more of women in the legislature, the impact of our progress will not be complete. We know of course that next dispensation will attract possible PDP female governors and more deputy governors."

Hailing President Jonathan for dedicating the 2013 budget to the women, the national women's leader said, "he has virtually dedicated the 2013 budget to the women.
Chikwe said: "Mr. President, the dedication of 35 percent of all construction contracts to women is really mind blowing to say the least. President Jonathan's benevolence to women is unbelievably phenomenal."

Speaking further, First Lady Patience Goodluck Jonathan said that even if 100 parties ganged up against PDP they will never defeat the party, adding that it was only the PDP that has implemented the 35 percent for women.
She said that she will never contest election in Nigeria and that anytime her husband retired she would go back home with him.
First Lady Peace Mission Building
On the First Lady Peace Mission building, Mrs. Jonathan who appealed to the Senate and the House of Representatives to pass the N4 billion budgeted for the project, explained that the building was not for her, but for Nigeria, which she said would generate employment for Nigerian youths.
She explained that when Maryam Babangida and Mariam Abacha built the Women Centre and the National Hospital they did not carry the buildings when they left government, adding that she will not go with the peace mission building when her tenure expires.
According to Jonathan's wife, the peace mission project was initiated by late President Yar'Adua, adding that other countries lobbied for the mission to be in their countries but it was given to Nigeria on a platter of gold. She noted that the United Nations and ECOWAS buildings are being maintained by Federal Capital Territory Administration.
She cautioned women to resist being used to kick against the project, as women recently demonstrated against the project, adding that if the project was for men the budget for the project would have long been passed.
She disclosed that by March, 70 percent of women will be employed, adding that Nigerian women can be President and governors of this country.

President Jonathan Bows To Pressure,Reverses MAULAG Back To UNILAG.

President Goodluck Jonathan has reversed the change of name of the University of Lagos which he renamed Moshood Abiola University in a broadcast to mark the 2012 Democracy Day.
Chairman, Governing Council of University of Lagos, Professor Jerry Gana disclosed this yesterday in Abuja during his inauguration alongside three others by the Minister of Education, Professor Ruqayyatu Rufai

The name change had been the subject of litigation and protests from students and alumni of the institution while a court recently ruled that the change was illegal.
Gana who hailed President Jonathan for retaining the name of the institution. said the president had upheld the Constitution by reversing the change of name of the university.
"This is a pointer to the fact that the current administration is committed to entrenching democracy and justice in the country.''
Gana, who was responding on behalf of the four councils, said they would ensure that the universities' communities settled down in peace.
"I assure you that we will do our best to be fair, just and honourable in the discharge of our duties." He also promised effective leadership with integrity, honour and justice.
Gana said members would work according to the rules governing the institutions.
He thanked Jonathan for the appointments and said they would put in their best as Nigerians deserved nothing less.
The other governing councils inaugurated by the Minister of Education, Prof. Ruqayyatu Rufa'I, were for the University of Benin, ObafemiAwolowoUniversity, Ile-Ife and Michael Opara University of Agriculture, Umudike.
Their Chairmen are Sen. Bob Dickson, Prof. Rowland Ndoma-Egba and Prof. Anya O.Anya respectively.
The Chairman of the Senate Committee on Education, Sen. Uche Chukwumerijie said the lawmakers' job had been made easier by the appointments.
Chukwumerijie said the committee's oversight visits to the institutions had identified lack of leadership by the absence of governing councils and the quality of members of the boards as challenges facing the institutions.
He said the Federal Government had by the appointments taken care of the issues.
"There are councils for those that did not have and the members who have been appointed are men and women of proven integrity and experience in academics.''
The lawmaker described the appointees as round pegs in round holes and the right captains in the ship.
Chukwumerijie charged the councils to immediately tackle falling standards of education, corruption, cultism and many ills that had continued to affect the development of education.
The Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission, Prof. Julius Okojie, said no university could function effectively without a governing council.
Okojie urged government to consider training and retreat for members to enable them to keep abreast of global best practices in university administration.
He also advocated financial autonomy for universities in the country.

President Jonathan Commends Lagos State Government At Eko Atlantic City Opening.

President Goodluck Jonathan on Thursday commended the Lagos State government and her partners for the successful completion of the Eko Atlanti City project.

The president made this commendation at the opening of the Eko Atlantic City, which was witnessed by former U.S. President Bill Clinton in Lagos.

President Jonathan announced that the Federal Government will soon launch a new mortgage promotion agency which will ensure that all Nigerians have access to proper housing.

He said, "I am pleased to announce that we have commenced work on establishing a Nigeria Mortgage Refinance Corporation (NMRC) to help in providing finance for the housing and construction sector.

"The NMRC, which will be private-sector led, will be established as a PPP arrangement. The partners will include the Federal Government, Nigeria's local banks and savings & loans institutions, and the multilateral institutions, especially the World Bank which is providing concessional credits of three hundred million dollars. Subsequently, the NMRC would be able to access the capital markets to raise long-term funds via bond issues."

Nike Suspends Endorsement Contract With Oscar Pistorius.

American sportswear company Nike suspended its endorsement contract with South African Paralympian Oscar Pistorius on Thursday after he was charged with murdering his girlfriend a week ago.

Nike has sponsored Pistorius since 2007, supplying him with running kit and special soles that he wears on the base of his carbon fiber racing blades.

"We believe Oscar Pistorius should be afforded due process and we will continue to monitor the situation closely," the company said in a statement, confirming the suspension of the agreement.

Nike, the world's largest sportswear company, ended a long-standing sponsorship agreement with cyclist Lance Armstrong last year after he was stripped of his seven Tour de France titles because of a doping scandal.

Nicknamed "Blade Runner", double amputee Pistorius is the world's highest profile Paralympian and also competed alongside able-bodied athletes in the London Olympics last year.

His sponsorship deals with companies including British telecoms firm, sunglasses maker Oakley and French designer Thierry Mugler are believed to be worth around $2 million a year.

NJC Axes Justice Charles Archibong And Justice Thomas Naron ,Sets Up Committee To Investigate Justice Abubakar Talba For The Recent Pension Rulling.

The National Judicial Council (NJC) on Thursday recommended to President Goodluck Jonathan the compulsory retirement of Justice Charles Archibong of the Federal High court Lagos and Justice Thomas Naron of the High Court of Justice Plateau State.

The decision was reached at a meeting that dragged till late on Wednesday. The meeting which was held at the Supreme Court Complex, Abuja was presided over by the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Mariam Alooma Mukhtar and it was recommended that the justices should retire on ethical grounds.

Justice Archibong was recommended for compulsory retirement pursuant to the 'findings" by the council on the following complaints levelled against him:

• that the judge dismissed the grievous charges against an accused without taking his plea;

• that he refused to release the certified true copy of his ruling to the lawyers;

• that the judge issued a bench warrant on some officials of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for contempt even when the counsel who was directed by the court to serve them filed an affidavit that he had not been able to serve the contempt application;

• that he made unfounded and caustic remarks on professional competence of some Senior Advocates of Nigeria;

• that there were glaring procedural irregularities which showed that he did not have a full grasp of the law and procedure of the court; and

• that he granted the leave sought for in the originating summons that had no written address of the parties and without hearing both parties in the originating summons after he had earlier overruled the preliminary objection.

On the other hand, Justice Naron of High Court of Justice, Plateau State was recommended for compulsory retirement to Governor David Jonah Jang sequel to the 'findings' by the council that there were constant and regular voice calls and exchange of multimedia messages and text messages between him and one of the lead counsel for one of the parties to the suit in the Osun state governorship election tribunal contrary to the code of conduct for judicial officers of the Federal Republic of Nigeria section 292(1((b) of the 1999 constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended.

Pending when the recommendation is enforce the NJC has in the exercise of its disciplinary powers under the 1999 constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended, suspended the two judges from office with immediate effect.

The council also set up a 'fact finding' committee to investigate the allegations levelled against Justice Abubakar Talba of a Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court in the police pension case between the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and John Yusuf and other.

Justice Talba recently sentenced Mr Yusuf who pleaded guilty to embezzling billions of pension funds to 2 years imprisonment with an option of N 250,000 fine for each of the 3 counts against him.

SSS Arrests Terrorists Gathering Information On Prominent Abuja Hotels.

The State Security Services (SSS) on Wednesday in Abuja paraded three persons suspected to be terrorists who engage in espionage activities for foreign terrorist organisations.
Parading the suspects, the Deputy Director, Public Relations of the Service, Marilyn Ogar said the service stepped up measures to curtail the spread of terrorist activities and its impact on the peace and stability of Nigeria through sustained covert operations on suspected terrorists.

The suspects, Abdullahi Berende, Sulaiman Saka and Saheed Adewumi who claimed to be working for some Iranian handlers were arrested while trying to gather intelligence on public places and prominent hotels frequented by Americans and Israelis to facilitate attacks.

Ms Ogar said  the leader of the team, Mr Berende was asked by his sponsors to establish a small business in Lagos, using that as a cover for his activities.

The three suspected terrorists will soon be charged to court according to Marilyn Ogar.

Richard Mofe Damijo On The Run For Embezzled N50Million Belonging To Delta State Tourism Board.

We are still trying to confirm this story and the authenticity of it ,but it has being reported that Philo Nkem Ajufo, the acting General Manager of Delta State Tourism Board, has been detained by the EFCC in Abuja over her role in a financial scheme. Ms. Ajufo is reportedly being quizzed for conniving with her boss, Richard Mofe Damijo (RMD), to embezzle N50 million from the state Ministry of Culture and Tourism.

Mr. Mofe Damijo, a well known Nollywood star, is the commissioner in charge of the ministry. Our EFCC said the commissioner was also being sought by the anti-corruption agency, but he has been elusive.

An EFCC source confirmed Ms. Ajufo's arrest. "As we talk, the Delta State Tourism GM, one Mrs. Nkem Ajufo, is been held in our headquarters here in Abuja over her involvement in the N50 million fraud. Her boss, Mr. Richard Mofe Damijo, is not left out but as we speak he is still avoiding us," said the source.

Two sources at the ministry disclosed to news men that the EFCC last week delivered a letter inviting Ms. Ajufo to appear at their headquarters. She was reportedly asked to bring along relevant documents concerning the N50 million that was meant for the purported 2007 Delta Expo event which never held.

The sources disclosed that Mr. Mofe Damijo went underground on learning about the current development.

Reporters claimed that the commissioner, who is reported to be building himself a massive underground edifice in Lagos, was trying to use political contacts in Delta and Abuja to scuttle the EFCC's investigation and washed his hands off the scam.

SaharaReporters learnt that Mr. Mofe Damijo denied knowledge of the money during the budget defense exercise.

Several calls and sms texts sent to Mr. Damijo and Ms. Ajufo's mobile lines were not answered. After a while, the commissioner switched off his mobile phone.
Late last year, Saharareporters had broken the news of the N50 million allegedly embezzled by the commissioner and the acting GM of the state's tourism board.

Several sources in the commissioner's office had confided that a former commissioner in the Ministry had applied for the N50 million to organize the "Delta State Expo 2007," disclosing that the state could not release the funds then due to some financial challenges. However, when the funds were released into the Tourism account in May, 2012, Mr. Mofe Damijo allegedly said that the ministry could no longer carry out the event since it had elapsed by six years and Deltans would have forgotten about the event.

Reportes obtained "Forms of Advance Warrant" on release of funds from the Ministry of Finance indicating that the N50 million was supposed to be spent on the original event for which it was approved. The warrant order, numbered 00000117, 00000114 and 00000115, was signed by one Ms. P.O. Evuojapha for the Commissioner of Finance.

SaharaReporters learnt that N35 million of the N50 million was supposed to have gone to the tourism board.

A reporter for SaharaReporters learned that Mr. Mofe Damijo issued a check to the tourism board in the name of its acting GM, Ms. Ajufo. She in turn reportedly deposited the sum into her First Bank private account with account number (3006131619) operated under her name,Nkem Philo Ajufo.Sources said she and Mr. Mofe Damijo subsequently shared the money.

Benue State Government Partners India In Agriculture,Poverty Alleviation And Economic Development.

Benue state government is to partner India in agriculture, poverty alleviation and other areas of economic interest.

This was made known during a dinner hosted by the Indian High Commissioner to Nigeria, Mahesh Sachdev, for Governor Gabriel Suswam at the Indian High Commission in Abuja at the weekend.

Speaking at the event, the High Commissioner said India's choice of Benue state for the partnership was informed by the abundant human and natural resources the state is blessed with saying: "Benue state has the potential of becoming the 'bread basket' of Nigeria."

"Being a tropical country with fertile land and plenty of unregulated irrigation that can be managed, I think Benue shares a lot of these conditions with India which can be turned into fruitful use for the benefit of both."

According to Sachdev, the partnership, which emphasis is on agriculture and poverty alleviation, would seek to showcase to Benue the Indian model of 'Green Revolution' which involves the introduction of high yielding varieties of seeds and irrigation. He revealed that a delegation from Benue state would be expected to travel to India next month to participate in this year's edition of the Indian Food Fair known as the "Aahar International Food and Hospitality Fair 2013."

Benue state governor, Gabriel Suswam, accompanied to the dinner by his wife, Yemisi, and some cabinet members, said his government had already put structures in place that would enhance the partnership with India.

Describing India as a developing country that has grown ahead of her peers, Suswam said: "The President recently commissioned a number of structures in Benue state which would make it easier for us to go into partnership India."

Apart from agriculture, Suswam who expressed willingness of the state to participate at the forthcoming Indian Food Fair, said other expected benefits from the partnership with India are in the areas of health, education, Information Communication Technology (ICT) and poverty alleviation.

The Senior Special Adviser on Media to Lagos State governor, Hakeem Bello, confirmed this to Pressmen Wednesday night, noting that the President's visit is in connection with the Atlantic City project.

The last parley the President had with business leaders in the state was in 2011 at Eko Hotel, in the run-up to the last general elections and it was a private discussion on how to drive his transformation agenda.

Police Arraign Owners Of "IBIZA" Night Club In Abuja For Assaulting Customer.

The Nigeria Police on Tuesday arraigned two club owners in Garki before a Karu Senior Magistrates' Court for allegedly beating up a customer.

The police arraigned Austin Godfrey, 35, and Owel Joseph, both of Ibiza Night Club, Area 11, Garki, Abuja.

The prosecutor, Ambi Ayuba, told the court that the accused persons were standing trial for alleged joint act, criminal force, assault, and causing grievous hurt.

Mr. Ayuba said one Chinenye Arungba of Trinity House, Mabushi, Abuja, reported the case at the Garki Police Station on February 16.

He said the complainant went to the accused persons' night club, but while he was leaving the premises around 2 a.m., the accused conspired among themselves, blocked the exit and beat him.

The prosecutor said that the complainant sustained serious injuries on his jaw for which he underwent three major surgeries at the National Hospital.

The offences are punishable under sections 79, 265 and 247 of the Penal Code Law.

The accused persons pleaded not guilty to all the charges.

The Senior Magistrate, Bashir Alkali, granted them bail in the sum of N100,000 and a surety each in like sum.

He said that the sureties must submit one of their recent photographs to the court registrar and their addresses must be verified by the prosecutor before they are released on bail.

The case was adjourned to March 27 for presentation of witnesses and hearing. NAN

Veteran Nollywood Actor Justus Esiri Is Dead.

The Nigerian entertainment industry has been hit by yet another sad death of veteran actor, Justus Esiri. He died late on Tuesday. less than a week after the sudden death of Goldie Harvey, a famous singer. Nollywood has witnessed series of deaths last year including that of Enebeli Elebuwa who was one of those who acted in "The Village Headmaster", a popular TV series that ran in the 1980s. He played the role of the Headmaster back then and Pete Eneh.

Esiri attended Urhobo College after which he moved to Germany to study Engineering. He however took interest in acting started it off in Germany. In 1968 through 69, he was the only Nigerian male acting on stage in Germany. He spoke fluent German which enabled him to work with the Voice of Nigeria, German Service as a translator.

His son Sidney Onoriode Esiri is a popular musician known as "Dr Sid" of Mavin Records.
