The Luxury Reporter Out With Maiden Print Edition

After 22 digital editions, The Luxury Reporter (TLR) magazine is out with a maiden print edition, Funke Osae-Brown, the magazine publisher has announced.

“Indeed, it is a good to dream big. The process of realising the dream could be tedious. However, it will be a tragedy not to try. We have dreamt of having a print edition of The Luxury Reporter (TLR) Magazine. So, after doing 22 digital editions which was widely accepted and read globally since December 2015, we are happy to present to you the maiden print edition of TLR in print. For us, this is a major milestone. Despite the challenges, we are happy the first quarterly print edition of TLR is out,” said Osae-Brown.

The print edition which is available for purchase at designated stores, is a celebration of Nigerian craftsmanship and emerging new lifestyle brands in the country. It heralds a rebirth of fine craftsmanship.
“Part of our vision is to discover indigenous luxury brands,” she explained. “We are glad about the efforts of a few brands we have encountered. We are launching this maiden print edition with a few of them and a fashion buyer on our cover.  The Nigerian luxury industry may not be fully developed yet in terms of its global acceptability, but one cannot ignore the efforts of some brands in attaining perfection in the production of premium products that are truly and proudly Nigerian. And so, this edition is dedicated to celebrating such craftsmanship.”
Osae-Brown explained that putting the contents of first print edition together, her team did not ignore the fact that Nigerians are still largely consumers of European and American luxury. Hence readers will find content on foreign luxury goods, like automobiles, yachts, hotels, wines, perfumery, luxury stores among others.
There is also an attempt to give an overview of the Nigeria luxury industry; how the market has evolved over the years and what can be done to fully develop it in the coming years.  It is a 100-page package you cannot help but read.
While receiving copies of the magazine at his Alausa office, Steve Ayorinde, Lagos Commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Culture commended the efforts of TLR management to beam the searchlight on country’s emerging luxury brands.

“One of the most hard-working women in journalism today and publisher of The Luxury Reporter, Funke Osae-Brown, stopped by to present the maiden edition of her magazine. Good stuff. Please get a copy,” he later wrote on his Instagram handle after the visit.
The magazine which is available for sale at Terra Kulture and Trish O Couture, Victoria Island, Lagos, will come out quarterly while the monthly digital editions will continue to be published on its, www.luxuryreporter.ng.

Police ought to be neutral, protect all ―Ortom

alt

GOVERNOR Samuel Ortom of Benue State has described as ‘unfortunate’ the statement credited to Inspector general of Police, Ibrahim Idris blaming the recent killing of innocent Benue people by herdsmen in the state on the Open Grazing Prohibition and Ranches Establishment Law of the state.

According to the statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Mr Terver Akase which was made available to Tribune Online in Makurdi on Saturday explained that the anti-open grazing law was enacted In the state to put a lasting solution to the unrelenting spate of attacks on the state.

He added that the law for the establishment of ranches was the best method of animal husbandry across the globe.

The governor said that the law which has constitutional backing followed due process with the requisite public hearings and inputs from various stakeholders.

“The police authorities had ample opportunity to also make input while the process was ongoing. They, however, failed to do so.

“The unfortunate claim by the IGP indicates that some of those saddled with the responsibility of protecting lives and property as well as maintaining law and order have abdicated their duty and become accomplices with those undermining the very existence of the country.

“If truly the IGP said what was widely reported by the media, our conclusion is that he is a clear case of a man who is either on a mission to mislead the nation or is complicit in the attacks on Benue communities and the killing of many people by terror herdsmen.

“IGP Idris needs to be reminded that Fulani herdsmen attacked Benue State more than 50 times and killed scores of people before the Open Grazing Prohibition and Ranches Establishment Law was enacted in the state. The law could therefore not have been the cause of the crisis

“The IGP should tell Nigerians if states like Adamawa, Zamfara, Kaduna, Nasarawa, Enugu, Edo, Plateau among others where armed herdsmen have killed hundreds of people also have anti-open grazing laws in place.

It will be recalled that a few days after the killings took place and all fingers were pointed towards the direction of armed herdsmen, the IGP quickly rose in defence of the herdsmen and frantically tried to divert attention from the genocide being perpetrated by herdsmen with a comment that it was a ‘mere communal clash’. Did he not know that there was a law in place in Benue State when he made that statement?

“With his latest demand that the ranching law of Benue is suspended, it is now clear where the loyalty and interest of the Inspector General of Police lies, certainly not with innocent Nigerians. He has now positioned himself not only as the mouthpiece of those who are killing Benue people but indeed as their shield. Little wonder herdsmen still proudly carry out sophisticated weapons and willfully terrorize innocent people in the state without being arrested.

“We wish to place it on record that contrary to the directive by President Muhammadu Buhari that the Inspector General of Police should relocate to Benue to ensure that the killings stop, the IGP spent only one day in Benue and left for a destination where only he could tell. No one has seen him in Benue since that day.

“Nigerians must know that contrary to the statement credited to the IGP, herdsmen are still killing people in Benue. It will, therefore, be wrong to say that enough security has been provided. At the last count after the mass burial of 73 victims of the attacks, about ten people have been killed in Guma Local Government Area, one killed in Logo and many more are receiving treatment in the hospital having suffered varying degrees of injuries with property worth millions of naira destroyed.

“Benue now has nearly 100, 000 displaced persons in seven camps established by the State Government. We, therefore, find IG Ibrahim Idris’ statement as mockery and a shameful dance on the graves of those killed in the state by herdsmen.

The statement further said that the constitutional responsibility of the police is to maintain law and order and not to make or criticise same.

That the IGP would have the audacity to blame a law made to ensure peace in the state and call for its repeal amounts to taking sides with lawless groups that gave the notice to invade and carried out their threats.
There is no surprise that the police ignored petitions for the arrest and prosecution of leaders of the Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore, the masterminds of the current invasion and the attendant massacre.

If the Inspector General of Police, Mr Idris is not competent to help bring an end to the invasion and killing of innocent people in Benue and other states by herdsmen, the noble thing to do is to resign instead of twisting facts to suit his objective.

Really Important Personal Branding Tips For Women Entrepreneurs.

Every single woman entrepreneur who has an online presence has her own personal brand, similar to what large corporations use these days. Every single blog post, photograph, tweet, and status update that is shared will become a part of the cumulative brand image of the woman. It’s really important to be sure that personal branding is strong for all women entrepreneurs, no matter what business is done or industry the woman works in.

Unfortunately, this is something that many women forget about as they focus on their businesses. This can be a mistake since there are many huge advantages of personal branding that should be considered. Here are some tips to remember as you try to improve your personal branding as a woman entrepreneur.

Share Personal Values

What you value as an individual is a huge part of personal branding. It’s really important that ideas are shared, together with opinions and advice on various professional subjects, especially through social media. As a result, readers are going to understand your strengths and will get to see exactly where you stand. People understand what they can expect from you.

Being Involved in the Community

One of the big parts of personal branding is being as involved as possible in relevant communities. You want to be 100% sure that people get to know you and feel close to you. There are endless opportunities available to be involved. For instance, let’s say there is a digital forum where people talk about the current gold charts. If you work in trading and you have advice on this topic, feel free to share in order to help people.

There is no real secret to being involved in a community. Just try to help as much as possible. Also, participate in various networking events in your industry.

Always Believe in What You Do

People are used to social media, so it’s really easy to spot the online presences that are disingenuous. When you pretend to be genuinely interested in something but the truth is that you do not really care, people will figure it out quickly. Genuine, authentic passion is vital for the creation of a personal brand that is credible for all aspiring women entrepreneurs.

The truth is you simply cannot fake passion for long periods of time. This is why you want to get involved in the things that you actually believe in. Personal greatness is only possible through passion, so this is what you want to be focused on.

Actions Speak Louder Than Words

Digital profiles are not at all difficult to use in order to reach new contracts. A personal brand, however, will go way beyond what is posted on the internet. Everyday life actions are going to be really important. You want to be do things that are going to inspire people. When you believe in the actions, you’re projecting a genuine vibe. At the end of the day, your personal brand is basically a combination of relationships — of real-life interactions. Always make sure that they are truthful and that you interact with your audience.

Royal Rumble? Oluwo Of Iwo Accuses Ooni Of Sending His Guard To Push Him At An Event

The Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Adewale Akanbi, has alleged that the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, ordered his bodyguard to push him out of the way during the meeting of traditional rulers in the country held in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital.

Oba Akanbi made the allegation in a statement, a copy of which was made available to Punch correspondent in Osogbo on Friday.

The Oluwo claimed that the incident happened on Tuesday at the Hotel Presidential when the Ooni was called to the podium to give a vote of thanks.
The statement read, “The bodyguard of the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, in what seemed to be an errand message, pushed Oluwo at the public gathering of the first-class paramount rulers held at the Presidential Hotel, Port Harcourt, the capital of Rivers State last Tuesday.

“Dignitaries at the event were taken aback by what they considered as a desecration of the crown as the bodyguard of the Ooni pushed a first-class paramount ruler, Oluwo.

“As shown in the pictures, the Ooni was called to make a vote of thanks as the Oluwo was engaging the Minister of Interior, Abdulrahman Dambazau, who came to represent President Muhammadu Buhari.

“While the Ooni was coming to his seat, his security guard descended on the Oluwo and asked him to give way or he would push him. Oluwo tried to plead with him to be patient, but he (bodyguard) resisted. He then pushed the Oluwo.
“The monarch excused himself in order to maintain peace. The Ooni was observing and he felt satisfied with the action of his guard. Oluwo stepped aside and thereafter revisited his conversation with the minister.”

But the Ooni, while reacting to the allegation in a statement issued by his Director of Public Affairs, Mr. Moses Olafare, described the claims of the Oluwo as untrue.

Olafare said, “There was no altercation between Oluwo and anybody at that venue at all.

“Kabiyesi Ooni went to make his speech in his capacity as a co-chairman of the National Council of Traditional Rulers. On his way back to the seat right beside the representative of the President, General Dambazau (retd.), on sighting Oluwo who had come to the high table to take pictures with some dignitaries while the programme was still ongoing, he waited for some minutes to allow Oluwo leave the way to his seat.”

Herdsmen attacks: We’re in IDPs camps instead of our classrooms – Benue schoolchildren

It was about 10am and the sun was already rising, making it a bright day.
For the little children at Agan Internally Displaced Persons’ Camp located at Old Toll Gate area, Makurdi, it was a normal day for football as some of the kids chased after a dusty ball.
Our correspondent spoke to some of the children and their parents at the camp and they lamented the difficulties they were facing at the camp, particularly lack of water, medical facilities and school to attend or teachers to teach.

Our correspondent, who visited the IDPs’ camp in Guma Local Government Area of the state observed that the camps were dominated by children of nursery, primary and/or secondary school age.

Apart from their inability to access schools, food is another major challenge being faced by the internally displaced persons at the camps.

The displaced persons therefore appealed to both the state and federal governments to find a lasting solution to the herdsmen/farmers crisis in the state to enable them to return to their homes and live a normal life.

For Tyohemba Joy, a primary four pupil at St. Alfred Nursery and Primary School, Torkula in Guma LGA, life has been hell without her school and the opportunity to study.

“Our village was attacked by some people, who were killing us and we had to abandon the place. Since then, we have been living in this camp.

”We had just resumed school in our area when the herdsmen came to attack our village. My parents’ property was all destroyed by the herdsmen. We were able to escape with the help of security agents.

“It is a shame that I cannot go to school now. Every morning when I wake up, I think about my friends who must be heading to school while I waste my time here,” she said.

Another victim, Vivian Shor, who is a junior secondary school one student of RCM-UBE, Kadarko, said that she had just got admitted to the school but had to abandon her studies and run with her parent to the IDPs’ camp in Daudu in order to secure her life.

Shor described her experience as terrible as she said a word of prayer for the souls of those who lost their lives to the attacks and those who were yet to experience such in life.

“Nobody would pray to have that experience or see their fellow human beings being killed or denied of what is legitimately their right; it was a sad experience,” she said.

Similarly, it has been a gloomy period for Mrs. Rebecca Orgugar, who hails from Tokula village; she said that children in the axis had stopped going to school because schools were often the targets of the attackers each time they struck.

She said many teenage girls of school age were still missing as a result of the suspected attacks by Fulani herdsmen in Kadarko.

”Since the herdsmen attacked our community, two out of my five children have been put at risk of dropping out of school because they are supposed to register for their West African Senior School Certificate Examination, but my farm and its produce, which should raise money for their registrations, have been destroyed by herdsmen.

“Now, I have no hope of getting money anywhere,” she stated.

Orgugar also urged the government to act fast to end the menace so as to allow those affected by the attacks to return to their various homes and live normal lives.

A retired solider with nine children, Thomas Agede, from Gida Sule in Guma, said that suspected Fulani herdsmen came to his residence early on Sunday morning to attack them.

He said one of his children, who was in Primary Five had been missing since then, adding that the development had made him to develop high blood pressure.

”At about 4 am on Monday, we heard that some Fulani had entered our village and killing people, so I started to gather my family members so that I could move them out, but before l was set, they had reached my area.

“I watched them slaughtering innocent people as if it was during the Biafran war. I thought l was in a war, but l could not do anything. They were with heavy guns, so l hid myself and allowed them to finish their evil act before leaving my hideout. Now my child is missing,” he said with a note of sadness.

Dooter Osuhu, a primary six pupil at Wisdom Primary School, Hagher, said her school had been shut down indefinitely because of the recent attacks.

”I have seven siblings, but all our schools have either been shut down or now being used as IDPs’ camps. This development has forced us out of school. I am calling on the Benue and Nasarawa state governments to jointly resolve this problem before it consumes us all,” she said.

James Tyor, who is a Junior Secondary School 1 student at Comprehensive Secondary School, Kuduku in Keana LGA, Nasarawa State, has taken refuge at Tse- Finds camp in Guma.

He noted that apart from lack of adequate space to sleep, water, security, health personnel and facilities, he was also worried that he had been forced out of school.

According to him, his parents lost everything to the suspected herdsmen’s attack and the situation will make it even difficult for him to return to school.

“I’m worried that I cannot go back to school, and the problem has affected many of us as many schools have been closed. We are young children, we should all be in school but we are in IDPs’ camps,” he said.

There is no doubt that Benue State is presently facing a grave challenge due to the recent killings by suspected Fulani herdsmen in two local government areas of the state. Before the recent attacks, Benue, in the last five years, had been turned to a theatre of war occasioned by constant attacks by suspected herdsmen.

That scores of people lost their lives in the recent killings is no longer news; the growing number of children of school age who are being forced out of school due to the attacks is what is also giving the people of the state sleepless nights.

According to the state governor, Samuel Ortom, over 100,000 people had been displaced by the recent attacks on Guma and Logo local government areas of the state.

A government source told our correspondent that no fewer than 75,000 of the number were youths scattered across seven designated internally displaced  persons’ camps.

The Benue State Universal Education Board had said that at least 10, 000 pupils had been forced out of schools in the two local government areas. The chairman of the board, Rev. Philip Tachin, said many schools were affected as many families fled their homes alongside the children to different camps following the attacks.

An official of State Emergency Management Agency, who spoke on condition of anonymity, described the current situation as ‘shocking and alarming’.

The source said that the figure kept rising every day as a result of continuous attacks, adding that about 35,000 children of school age had been forced out of school and now living under difficult conditions in the camps.

The SEMA official also that some of the new entrants at the camps were from the troubled Kadarko area in the neighbouring Nasarawa State.

Further checks revealed that a faith based institution had opened camps in some parts of Benue State to tackle the influx of displaced people in need of refuge.

The source said, “It was disheartening to see thousands of school children forced out of school by the invasion of suspected herdsmen on some communities in Guma and Logo LGAs; the state government is making frantic efforts to attend to the welfare of the displaced persons for now while we hope that peace will soon return to the state so that those children will be able to return to school.”

The SEMA official, who said he was not authorised to speak on the matter, even as the Executive Secretary of the agency was indisposed as of the time of filing this report, said there were about 4,000 children of school age in one of the camps in Guma alone.

“This is the multiplier effect of this genocidal operation. There are seven IDPs’ camps in these two affected local governments and if the statistics of these school children are the same across the IDPs’ camps, over 35,000 children might have been forced out of school. Understand that in one camp here in Guma, there are over 4,000 children of school age,” he said.

He added that if the Federal Government failed to decisively stop the killings, then its efforts in education would be a mere waste of resources.

“Many schools have been affected; though, we are yet to ascertain whether school buildings have been destroyed the same way houses in villages were destroyed. We spoke with one of the policemen that were attacked by the armed herdsmen and he confirmed that they were Fulani.

“They were heavily armed; the Federal Government should be honest by not playing politics with this serious security problem because it is capable of conflagration. We want one Nigeria and we shouldn’t be pushed to having a divided country,” the source added.

The Senior Special Assistant to the state governor on SEMA, Vincent Tsea, disclosed that there were 6,000 children of school age in one of the new camps in Daudu, while registrations were still ongoing as a result of the crisis, which broke up in Kadarko area of Nasarawa State.

He stated that the Wednesday’s attack in the council area made the number of school children to rise beyond what the SUBEB had earlier stated.
According to him, when registrations in those additional new camps are completed, he will be able to give out the exact figures of children of school age in the camps

Herdsmen killings: Stop calling Buhari a murderer Presidency warns

The Presidency said on Friday that it was “grossly” disrespectful and unfair to refer to President Muhammadu Buhari as a murderer over the killings by suspected herdsmen in Benue and other parts of the country.
The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, while briefing State House correspondents at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, said that people should learn to express their grievances and criticisms without resorting to name calling.

He said the President, in accordance with the constitution, had the primary responsibility of protecting lives and property and that he had been doing that.

He said, “Those beating the gongs of war and fanning the embers of discord must remember what prevailed in Rwanda before the genocide of the early 90s, during which hundreds of thousands of lives were lost as a result of consistent hate speech spewing from that country’s media.

“We must learn to express our grievances and criticisms without resorting to gutter language or to name calling, and the press has a responsibility to maintain that, even if it means calling their columnists to order.

“Calling him (Buhari) a murderer is not only grossly disrespectful but unfair, especially when the President has written a letter to the Senate detailing his efforts to quell the crisis in Benue State.

“The President had also dispatched the Minister of Interior and the Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of operations for an on-the-spot assessment of the situation in the aftermath of the unfortunate incident, and receiving a direct briefing from the IG the following day.”

The presidential spokesperson also raised concerns over some media reports on the recent killings, describing them as unfortunate.

He cited a recent column published in a national newspaper (not The PUNCH) alleging that President Muhammadu Buhari was the first to endorse the Benue massacre on New Year Day.

Shehu said the same columnist described the Minister of Defence, Mansur Dan-Ali as “a dyed-in-the-wool Fulani irredentist who places trade over and above human life” and that the writer went further to invite Nigerians to arm themselves and fight one another.

Shehu also frowned at the headline of one of the said newspaper’s edition, titled ‘Expect More Blood in Benue…’

He said some media reports on the recent Benue killings displayed lack of respect for journalism ethics and press laws.

He appealed to members of the Fourth Estate of the Realm to show more decorum and professionalism in the reportage of security and humanitarian situation in the country.

No decision yet on compensation for victims of Benue killings —Presidency

The Presidency also said that no decision had been taken on possible compensation for families who lost their loved ones in the killings that took place in Benue State on January 1, 2018.

Shehu said this during an interview with our correspondent.

He said that it was premature to be talking about whether the Federal Government would pay compensation to the victims or not at a time when the authorities were still investigating the incident.

He said that the Vice President Yemi Osinbajo-led committee, set up by the National Economic Council, on the matter was still meeting.

The presidential spokesman explained that after the committee members had completed their assignment, they would report to President Muhammadu Buhari on their findings and solutions.

He said, “You know there is the Vice President Osinbajo committee that has nine governors as members and they are discussing modalities. Whatever their conclusions are, they will definitely get back to the President.

“It will, therefore, be premature at this time to talk about whether compensation will be paid or not.

“You have to be patient and wait for the committee members to finish their work.

“In fact, at Thursday’s meeting, they set up another committee that will report back to the main committee and then the main committee will report to the President.”

Some persons suspected to be Fulani herdsmen had on January 1, 2018, attacked Guma and Logo local government areas of Benue State, killing 73 people and injuring many others.

Thousands of people were also said to have been displaced as a result of the attack.

During Thursday’s meeting, the Osinbajo-led committee set up a sub-committee that would interface with members of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria and other groups with a view to ending the killings.

The sub-committee is headed by the Ebonyi State Governor, Dave Umahi.

Chairman of the Nigeria Governors Forum, Alhaji Abdulaziz Yari, made the disclosure to State House correspondents at the end of the meeting.

Yari, who is the Governor of Zamfara State, said that the governors of Plateau and Adamawa states were members of the dialogue committee headed by Umahi.
He said that some technocrats would also be invited to join them in visiting states affected by the crisis.

Fulani herdsmen launch fresh attacks on Guma LG in Benue State. Photos

Several persons have been declared missing and many houses razed after suspected Fulani herdsmen launched attack on Nanev village in Uikpam, Guma LGA of Benue State.

Guma is the country home of the state governor, Samuel Ortom.
The commmunity was also attacked on January 1 where over 50 persons were hacked to death.
It was gathered that the gunmen, armed to their teeth stormed the village, Friday evening, shooting sporadically into the air and setting houses on fire.
A resident of the community hinted that over 23 houses were burnt down completely.
This incident came barely three days after seven Fulani natives were burnt to death in Gboko area of the state
Confirming the incident, Hon. Anthony Shawon, Chairman of Guma Local Government Area of Benue State said the timely intervention of mobile police prevented the armed men from causing more damages.
“This night 2/2/18 the Fulani militia attacked Uikpam village. The mobile police repelled them. They are now burning Nanev Villages,” he said.
Meanwhile, text message to the Benue State Police PRO, Moses Yamu was not replied at the time of this report.

Several persons injured as thugs attack APC rally in Cross River

Several persons sustained injury on Friday as unknown gunmen stormed the All Progressives Congress, (APC) Secretariat in Obudu Local Government Area of Cross River State.

The incident occurred as a gubernatorial aspirant of the APC, Mr Venatius Ikem, arrived the party’s secretariat to declare his intention to run for the 2019 governorship election.

Reacting to the attack, the governorship aspirant urged his supporters to remain calm no matter the provocation.

“Only the guilty who have blood on their hands will be caught in such violence”, he declared.

“What happened at Obudu yesterday was a study in shame and APC at the highest level has decided and will take up the matter. Those who say they were not PDP thugs should not be in a hurry because we have evidence with everybody in various video clips that have been sent to Police HQ.

“Everybody will hear from the police soon. I urge our teeming APC supporters once again to continue to show maturity and courage under fire and most importantly refrain from retaliating with violence. We aspire to lead and we will not allow them to drag us to their level. The truth is in the process of being unveiled.

“The plans of the Gov to use violence to remain in office beyond 2019 are being practiced and we are happy that God has used the Obudu APC once again to expose those plans in time.

“This is the 3rd such attack on APC at Obudu while conducting their internal party activities. I believe the party is taking notes that will be useful in planning against such dastardly acts in the forth coming general elections.
“To my brothers in PDP, I urge you to see clearly that Ayade has lost any semblance of credibility amongst his own people and can only use violence, even when APC is having their internal party business. How unfortunate! I will speak at the appropriate time and you will hear from me”, he stated.

Tinubu is a hypocrite – Jonathan’s aide, Omokri

Former presidential aide, Reno Omokri has condembed comments credited to the National leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Bola Tinubu over ex-president Olusegun Obasanjo’s coalition of Nigerians.

Tinubu had earlier spoken on Obasanjo’s newly formed Coalition of Nigerians.

He said Obasanjo had freedom of association, stressing it was not the appropriate time to respond.

Omokri in reaction accused Tinubu of being a hypocrite who is playing politics with the affairs of Nigeria.

According to him, Tinubu had nothing to offer just like his counterpart Olusegun Obasanjo.

In his tweet, he wrote “In 2013, Tinubu praised Obasanjo for writing his letter to Jonathan.
“Today, Tinubu accuses Obasanjo of ‘playing politics’ with his letter to Buhari.
“What is the difference in the 2, except that one was PDP and the other APC? May hypocrisy not kill Tinubu! May it not kill Nigeria!”

OBJ means Obasanjo-Buhari-Jonathan"

The History of Nigeria since 1969 is about three men: Dr. Olusegun Obasanjo, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari and Dr. Goodluck Jonathan. I will aptly describe them as President General, President and President at large. The trio constitute  the Presidium, even if we are not Communists.

The recent letter to President Buhari could only have come from his former General Officer Commanding[GOC] and Commander-in-Chief. And  Dr. Obasanjo’s points made a lot of sense. I am sure many of us have noticed that the image makers domiciled in Aso villa have not fired lethal shots yet.

On the part of Dr. Jonathan, he has since gone back to Abeokuta to reconcile with Obasanjo, the man who lifted him from the Creeks to the crown in less than four years. This same Obasanjo who had a running battle with Buhari as President between 2003 and 2007, teamed up with Buhari to flush out Jonathan in 2015.

To the uninformed, the three appear to be fighting themselves, sometimes but are indeed, united in their bid to control Nigeria. And the head of this triumvirate is General Obasanjo, the Balogun of Owu. All three have a lot in common.

Obasanjo was largely unknown until May 21, 1969 when General Yakubu  Gowon made him GOC, Third Marine Commando Division of the Nigeria Army in place of Col. Benjamin Adekunle. An Army Engineer who trained at the Mons Officer Cadet School, Aldershot, taking over from a Sandhurst groomed officer.

Lucky man, Obasanjo brought the Civil War to a close when the Biafrans surrendered to him at Amichi before Dodan Barracks hosted the formalities on January 15, 1970. Not much was said about Sandhurst trained GOCs like Cols. Mohammed Shuwa, Murtala Mohammed, Ibrahim Haruna and Iliya Bisalla.

That was the beginning of the rise of Obasanjo. Gowon later picked him as Federal Commissioner[Minister]for Works. In 1975, he became Chief of Staff, Supreme Headquarters[Vice President] under Murtala. Obasanjo capped it all in February 1976 when fate made him number one, following the assassination of the head of state.

Obasanjo has not left Nigeria ever since. He had a hand in the emergence of Alhaji Shehu Shagari as President in 1979. Many of his kinsmen still believe he preferred Shagari to fellow Yoruba, Chief Obafemi Awolowo.

As Obasanjo moved out of power, Buhari was on the rise. Under the civilians, the latter was made GOC 3rd Division.  We all have not forgotten that the former also was GOC 3rd Marine Commando Division. Buhari was outstanding as he repelled attacks by Chad and was almost capturing Ndjamena before he was reprimanded by Shagari.

Buhari would later oust Shagari in December 1983 with the support of young officers, and the duo of Ibrahim Babangida and Sani Abacha. IBB sacked Buhari in August 1985, and put him in detention. At that time, Obasanjo wanted to become the first African to lead the United Nations. He did not succeed. The Commonwealth recognized him as an eminent person.

Three months after Babangida stepped aside in 1993, Abacha struck. Buhari was relevant again with the Petroleum Trust Fund [PTF], an agency which controlled more funds than many states. Obasanjo was taken to jail on allegations of coup plot.

From prison, IBB and Abdusalam Abubakar, planned an Obasanjo presidency. The Yoruba did not buy into it but it worked. OBJ stayed in power for  eight years, fished out Jonathan who moved from Deputy governor to Governor, to Vice President and to President.  In 2015, Obasanjo abandoned Jonathan and voted for Buhari.

Let us see what holds them together. Obasanjo, like Buhari, graduated from Mons. And you cannot locate the Academy anymore because it was scrapped in 1972. Obasanjo was GOC during the Civil War and Captain Buhari served under him as Acting  Commander 16 Brigade when Maj.E.A. Utuk was on leave.

Obasanjo described Buhari as “ a concessional commissioned officer” and “a field commissioned officer.”Buhari fought in Owerri where one of Obasanjo’s friends, Col. Patrick Amadi, hailed from.

Obasanjo made Buhari, Minister of Petroleum. The former was a minister under Gowon. Obasanjo was Head of State and later president, just like Buhari. As president, they held on to the Petroleum Ministry as minister.

There is an accord that binds Obasanjo and Jonathan. As number two, OBJ stepped in after the number one, Murtala, died. The same happened to GEJ when President Umaru Yar’adua died in 2010. No two the Vice President [or equivalent] enjoyed that uncanny luck.

One of Obasanjo’s wives, Stella, had an Igbo mother from Delta. Mrs Patience Jonathan’s maternal home is Umuahia, Abia State. Mrs Obasanjo died during the Obasanjo Presidency. Jonathan lost his brother, Meni, while he was president.

Obasanjo’s first job as GOC began in Port Harcourt at a time the Garden City was capital of Jonathan’s state, Rivers. Jonathan’s first job after graduating from the University of Port Harcourt was at Ebekun Community School, Iresi in Obasanjo’s Yoruba land. Ebekun sounds like Ibogun, Obasanjo’s ancestral home. Jonathan bagged a PhD before he became President. Obasanjo did after leaving office.

Obasanjo, Buhari and Jonathan, are bound together by oil. Jonathan attended St. Michael’s Primary School, Oloibiri, where oil was discovered in 1956. Buhari was petroleum minister in 1977, Obasanjo became one in 1999.

This is the story of nascent Nigeria. Obasanjo has spoken. Aso villa quakes. Jonathan is watching. Nigerians should not stand aside. This is a wake up call. Our destiny is in our hands. Choose your leader in 2019.

God will expose killers, kidnappers soon - Pastor E.A Adeboye

General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor E.A Adeboye has condemned kidnapping and killings in the country.
Leading his congregation in prayers, at the February 2018 Holy Ghost Service tagged “Stronger than your enemies – Part 2”, held at the Redemption Camp, Adeboye asked the congregation, which included the Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, to pray that God should expose and deal with those that are shedding blood, and those that  are sponsoring  them.

In his words “Father, wherever those who are shedding bloods are hiding, please expose and deal with them.  All those who are condoling evil or colluding with them, wherever they may be please expose and deal with them. All those who are sponsoring evil and bloodshed, please expose and destroy them.”

Responding to those who have accused him of being silent on the issue, the General Overseer said “I am a Christian and I belong to the Christian Association of Nigeria which has a President. So whatever the President says is what I say. I am also a Pentecostal and I belong to the Pentecostal Association of Nigeria. So whatever the President says is what I say. That is how to be under authority.”

About 50 persons were murdered by Fulani herdsmen in Benue State in the first two days of January, 2018. There have also been several cases of kidnappings in some parts of the country. Reports say that the herdsmen started attack since the Benue State Government implemented the anti-grazing law, giving the herdsmen no space to feed their cows.

I Am Not Interested In Taking Over Buhari's Job...Babagana Kingibe

Babagana Kingibe, former Secretary to the government of the federation, says he knows “nothing” about the 2019 presidential campaign posters being circulated with his image.
“I am experienced enough in politics to know that you do not start a political campaign with posters without talking to anyone about your ambition,” he said in a paid advert placed in national newspapers on Friday.

The posters started appearing in Abuja and Lagos recently, fuelling speculation that Kingibe, who was running mate to MKO Abiola in the annulled June 12, 1993 presidential election, was preparing to challenge President Muhammadu Buhari for the APC ticket.

He also linked the posters to allegations that he took money from the National Intelligence Agency (NIA), pointing out that the events cannot be “coincidental”.

Kingibe wrote: “My attention has been drawn to the posters being circulated in some cities across the country purporting that I am campaigning to be President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in the 2019 elections. I want to state clearly that I know nothing about the posters.

They were neither produced nor authorised by me. I do not know how the posters came about and I know nothing about how they were circulated in those cities. I am experienced enough in politics to know that you do not start a political campaign with posters without talking to anyone about your ambition.

“In any case, I want to state very clearly that I DO NOT have the intention or the desire to contest for any elective post in 2019 or thereafter. I am fully in support of President Muhammadu Buhari and his policies, which I believe will rescue Nigeria from accumulated decay, loss of moral compass and leadership failure. I fervently believe that Nigeria is safe in President Buhari’s hands and he needs to complete and build upon the solid foundations that he is laying.”

He described the NIA allegations as “phantom”.

“I am also very much aware of fictitious petitions and statements made to the EFCC and House of Representatives Committee on Security and National Intelligence linking me to some claims of impropriety. The phantom allegations and the pasting of posters are too striking to be co-incidental. This is a miscalculated attempt to malign and defame me,” he said.

“I urge all well-meaning Nigerians to please ignore all these fabrications and falsehoods.”
Kingibe was the chairman of the panel set up by Buhari to review the operations of NIA following the discovery of the agency’s funds in a flat in Ikoyi, Lagos.

Jonathan Never Protected Fulani Herdsmen – Miyetti Allah

The Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore Socio-cultural Association have alleged that ex-President Goodluck Jonathan did nothing to protect the Fulanis. National President of the group Bello Abdullahi Bodejo (Lamido Fulbe) said this, adding that clashes between farmers and herders did not start from the President Muhammadu Buhari government.

According to Bodejo, those blaming Buhari for the recent clashes are doing so due to the present administration’s fight against corruption. He told Sun News that, “In 2014 when President Jonathan was still in power, there were crises in Plateau, Benue and Taraba states that almost destroyed the country. That time they were calling the name of Jonathan but now that the All Progressives Congress(APC) has taken power from the PDP, and changed the government, the problem has shifted to Buhari.

In addition, he said “Some people who lost the elections do not know how they can sit down without getting anything from the government. These are the kinds of people causing the problem and hoping that they would go back to power. “During the Jonathan’s time, you remember the Ombatse cult problem in Nasarawa State. That crisis alone was even threatening the country as many security agents were killed but there was no much propaganda. Now, even if a husband and wife quarrel, they would say it is a problem caused by the Fulani.

“I know why they are saying all these; it is because President Buhari is a Fulani man. Buhari is fighting corruption and all these people who looted our money are not happy and they are fighting back in many ways. “Many of them are being chased about by the EFCC and they are not happy and they want to cause problems because election is approaching. President Muhammadu Buhari is a very straight leader and is not protecting anybody.”

True love is not found on social media, says RMD

Veteran actor Richard Mofe-Damijo (RMD) has advised people searching for true love on social media to be cautious so as not to fall into the snare lies of `I love you`.

RMD in his Instagram page on the social media said this advice was necessary as the Valentine Season usually celebrated on February 14 on an annual basis draws closer.

The former Commissioner for Culture and Tourism in Delta State, said that he wanted to share his intellectual, motivational and thoughtful insights to guide appropriately those finding love on the internet to guide them against being jilted.

He said on his Instagram page, “ If I wasn’t the six foot, successful, famous, good-looking RMD, will you still love me?

“If not for the level of fame I have achieved and the success tied to my brand; will you still scream my name?

“If I was a middle-aged, gray bearded, emaciated applicant hoping to be your driver, will you give me a second look?

“If I was a half literate Warri boy who said ‘Nyam’ instead of Yam, “Shorsh” instead of Church and “I chock” instead of “I was shocked”, will you not mock and laugh at my speech?

“If I, as RMD, fell on hard times, lost my fame and fortune, became helpless and hopeless, will you show any sympathy?

“I asked, not because I do not know the answers but so that he that has ears will hear and hopefully learn a thing or may be, two, “he said.

He continued by saying, “In your desire to be loved and accepted, it is important to ask yourselves how much of the love and admiration thrown at you are genuine.

“Know that many do not love you; they love the idea of you.

“It is the same people who sing your praises when you’re up, that tear you apart when you stumble, and stomp on you when you fall.

“Don’t let the number of followers you have, the likes and comments on your pictures or the hype fool you, one wrong move and the vultures will swoop down to feast.

“This is why I appreciate the love but stay super selective when it comes to letting people in. I keep my circle small, in fact, very small.

“I keep my private life, private and thank God for the grace to also keep my public life private.

“Don’t put yourself out there and start crying foul when it blows up in your face and stop trying to sit with the cool kids, you are the cool kid. Know this and elevate above the clique mentality.

“This is really the truth, you only gain attention because of what you are achieving,“ he said.

Dignitaries who graced the service include Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo; former President, Dr Goodluck Jonathan; former Vice President, Namadi Sambo; Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha; National Leader of All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu; former Governor of Osun State, Chief Bisi Akande; Governors of Anambra, Willie Obiano; Delta, Ifeanyi Okowa; Abia, Okezie Ikpeazu; Imo, Lagos: Akinwumi Ambode; Rochas Okorocha; Enugu, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi; Edo State Deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu; former Commonwealth Secretary General, Chief Emeka Anyaoku, among others.
