Petroleum Minister's Convoy Kills Journalist In Abuja.

The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) FCT Council, has expressed sadness over the death of Mr. James Momoh of Abuja based Pilot Newspapers ,he was knocked down by the convoy of the Minister of Petroleum, Mrs. Diezani Alison-Madueke, along Nicon Junction, Maitama, late Wednesday evening on his way from work.

Reports indicated that Momoh was taken to the NNPC hospital where he later gave up the ghost after the incident. This is sad, in fact there are a lot of things going on in this country. It’s just sad.

In a statement by the Chairman of Council, Comrade Chuks Ehirim, described the death of Momoh, a production staff with the newspaper, as avoidable and unfortunate.

According to Ehirim, the tragic death of Momoh brings to fore the recklessness of government convoys and their absolute disregard for traffic rules and other road users.

The NUJ FCT chairman lamented that the minister has not demonstrated any concern and human feeling for the deceased by reaching out to his relatives. He said she was rather more bothered about protecting her image.

Ehirim warned that the union will not fold its arms and watch government officials treat human lives with levity and called for proper investigation into the matter as well as proper compensation for the bereaved family.

This is a clarion call on NEMA to urgently find a solution the plight of victims  of the current flooding in Benue State and   increase the supply of relief materials to the victims of the recent flooding to  the State,they promised to increase attention but up till now,their response is very slow, the situation is worsening as i write this mail,25,000 people have being rendered homeless and are camping in primary schools nearby and uncompleted buildings in the state.
NEMA is very much aware of what is happening and i frown at their nonchalant attitude towards what is happening in my state,we are aware that this is a natural disaster but enough warnings would have being given,this is very unfair,i weep for my people.

Omotola Ekeinde Dragged To Court Over Breach Of Contract.

Top Nollywood actress, Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde who just back from  Jamaica where  she  reportedly finalised  some juicy contracts, has engaged the services of popular Lagos lawyer and human rights activist, Festus Keyamo to defend her in a case of  breach of contract filed against her company, Redhot Concepts Limited by an up and coming lawyer, Keshi Elvis who holds brief for Megafield Solicitors.

According to the lawyer, trouble started when the latter failed to honour the contractual agreement they entered into in 2010.

He said all entreaties he made to Omotola and her company to honour the agreement hit brick wall, a situation which prompted his decision to seek redress in court.

Narrating how he met Omotola, the young lawyer said one Isaac who was his younger brother 's colleague in his office introduced him to the actress some two years ago (February, 2010. ). Isaac had hinted his younger brother that Omotola was in dire need of a young and vibrant lawyer to handle her briefs. According to Isaac, Omotola's former lawyer wasn't handling her briefs satisfactorily and it was on this premise that Elvis was introduced to the actress.

The lawyer stated further that "Omotola's number was made available to me and after series of telephone discussions, we scheduled an appointment in her office. Then, she was having issues with Africa Independent Television, AIT following a programme on Kakakii, where Omotola was said to have travelled to the United States to carry out breast enlargement."

"I wrote a letter to the management of DAAR Communications, owners of AIT and Raypower 100.5. The matter was eventually resolved via retraction on the same programme and a letter of apology tendered by the company's law firm representing Jumoke Alao."

" Impressed on how I handled the matterwith AIT and other assignments, the actress entered into contractual agreement with my firm, where I insisted that my annual retainership fee would be N500,000. She negotiated for N200,000 per annum retainership fee. I prepared an MOU and after studying it, she invited me on 22nd or 23rd of February, 2010 for the execution of the MOU." he recounted.

Meanwhile, in the memorandum of Understanding signed by Omotola's company and the lawyer, Keshi explained that the actress agreed to pay him the sum of N200,000 annually as his retainership fee in addition to paying him also a professional fee as well as out of pocket expenses incurred by me while handling her brief which she did not honour.

"Both parties, without coercion, signed the agreement. I have since carried out all instructions from Redhot concepts through Omotola"Elvis said.

According to the young laywer, since the MoU,was endorsed, he has only received a cheque of N50,000 from Omotola. He has gone to court to demand for the balance of his retainership agreement for 2010 (N150,000) and the retainership agreement for 2011 ( 200,000) as well as fee for services rendered between this period which amounted to N1,150,000.

"In February 2012, I wrote Omotola where I terminated our agreement, with a letter of demand.. She ignored me all this while."

However, in a counter affidavit from Omotola's counsel, Festus Keyamo , and which was made available to WG, the actress agreed owing the complainant the sum of N350,000, and not N1,150,000"as he claimed. The case came up yesterday, at the Magistrate court 1, Ikeja, Lagos.

Meanwhile, efforts to contact Omotola over the telephone to get her own side of the story proved abortive as her cell phones were switched off.

Female Robber Apprehended In Abuja.

A lady who led a gang of robbers  to rob another female passenger was nabbed around  Area 11 Abuja where the robbery took place, luck ran out of her as people  watched her operation from a distance and attacked  them rescuing the victim who was later Identified as Obiageli.
This lady was apprehended out of the five others who took to their heels on sighting danger she was unable to escape,the robbery took place thursday afternoonn at about 2pm ,the operation was carried out in an

 ash coloured Nissan Sunny,items recovered from them included ATM cards, Passports belonging to different people and her handbag that contained phones and valuables belonging to other people.

How Humiliated 400 Level Female Student Of U.A.M Benue State Commited Suicide.

This is the story of a female 400 level student of University of Agriculture Makurdi who committed suicide recently as a result of the humiliation she went through in the hands of some traders who claimed she stole a blackberry phone. 
This girl went to Ndupet Plaza in Makurdi and stole a Blackberry phone,when the Ibo boys who are majority traders in that arena caught her,they striped her,beat her,disgraced her,abused her and reduced her to nothing for stealing a blackberry phone.It was a public scene in Makurdi as hundreds of people trouped out to catch a glimpse of the ''BLACKBERRY THIEF'',she was even forced to display some naked performance which they boys recorded on their phones and gadgets and sent out to people.
The girl was finally released to go not without another round of humiliation as  the Blackberry phone was inserted in her private part,she was paraded and escorted home naked.
We got information that the girl committed suicide ,she couldn't face the shame and humiliation any longer.  

Would you say that, parading her naked around the town and at the same time inserting the Blackberry phone in her privates was the right way of treating her? Would you say that those parading her publicly crossed the law and should be arrested? What do you think should be done now?

Lagos State University Moves School Of Communication From Surulere To Badagry

Unofficial sources have reported that the management of the Lagos State University is making plans to relocate students of the Adebola Adegunwa School of Communications (AASOC), Ojuelegba, to Topo in Badagry, where LASU Foundation Programme is run, the school and various social media have been awash with mixed reactions from students and staff.

According to some of the students, the move became necessary as children of the rightful owner of the Adebola Adegunwa Building, where the school is housed, have shown interest in reclaiming the property.

More so, it has also been said that the move to Topo coincided with the fact that the LASU Foundation Programme being run in the building, will be rounding off by October.

Inhuman treatment

As a result of this, anxiety has gripped the students, especially those in 200 and 300 level. For the 300 level students, moving them to Topo is an inhuman treatment and high level of insensitivity on the part of the university management.

According to them, this is the third time in two years that management will be relocating them to various campuses all in the pursuit of a four-year Bsc. programme.

Genesis of relocation exercise: It will be recalled that at the end of the 2009/2010 academic session which ended in February 2011, the 300 level students, then in 100 level, were informed of a relocation for an academic session from the Ojuelegba campus to the main campus at Ojo.

The students eventually resumed at the Ojo main campus, amidst mixed feelings. Joining them to resume at the main campus were the fresh students, now in 200 level.

Commenting on the move then, the management of AASOC explained that the move was due to management's decision to enable the students get a feel of what real academic life entailed.

"Moving to Ojo will make you mix and interact with students from other disciplines. In fact, by the time you are back, your life will never remain the same, in terms of the scope of knowledge you must have acquired," said Prof. A. I. Lawal, immediate-past dean of AASOC in the wake of the move.

However, despite the reasons given, reports from some quarters then, held that the move was necessitated by an upcoming accreditation exercise by the Nigerian Universities Commission (NUC).

The reports said NUC had earlier threatened to strip the school of its accreditation if it still houses four levels in the three-storey Adebola Adegunwa House, comprising about five lecture theatres each with the capacity to seat 70 people.

Further, the sources said the threat by NUC became necessary as the four levels housed by the school had over 500 students, as against NUC's expectation. The move was successfully made in the 2010/2011 academic session; March 2011 to be precise.

Second relocation:

After the end of the 2010/2011 academic session in November 2011, the students, having completed their second year, were mandated to move back to the Ojuelegba campus, leaving behind the fresh students.

This announcement by management was never without the usual mixed feelings. While some of the students lauded the move, others criticized it heavily, saying it's waste of money, time and energy.

According to them, "while in 100 level, we spent money looking for apartment around Ojuelegba and its suburb. Moving to Ojo, we spent heavily again looking for hostel accommodation. This is the third time we will be spending," they lamented.

Third and latest purported relocation: In the wake of last Wednesday's International Communication exams, news of the third relocation to far-away Topo broke, leaving the 300 level students in a dilemma.

"I have already rented an apartment and paid for two years, which cost my parents about N300,000. Getting an accommodation here in Surulere is very expensive. Having spent this much securing an apartment, not considering the stress, why this new relocation?" asked one of the students who pleaded anonymity.

For some 200 level students, the move to Topo-Badagry is not worth it as some of them have already made arrangements for hostel accommodation within Ojuelegba.

Sport League Bloggers Award Release Nominee List.

Candidates for the end-of-the-season League Bloggers Award (LBA) have been picked by the organisers.

The League Bloggers Award will be competed for in ten categories by clubs, players and coaches in the 2011/2012 Nigeria Premier League (NPL) season.

Also, there will be Special Recognition to corporate bodies on the award day for their support to the nation's top flight.

The ten categories to be competed for are Rookie of the Year, Best Goalkeeper, Best Foreigner, Club of the Year, Best Designed Club Jersey, Highest Goal Scorer Award, Manager of the Year (NPL), Manager of the Year (Africa), Best National Team Player and Player of The Year.

Head of the LBA, Ojeikere Aikhoje, revealed that the panel for the award had to include the Best Goalkeeper as a way to support the men between the sticks.

"Goalkeepers have often been relegated to the background in our league. Concentration has often been on the strikers but we want to show that the goalkeepers are important elements in any team by adding an award for them," Aikhoje explained.

There will be two categories for the Manager of the Year and Aikhoje explained the rationale behind it.

"We will have two awards in the Manager of the Year. One is for the NPL and the other is for managers, whose teams competed or are still competing in Caf club competitions. It is a way to encourage them to put in their best," said Aikhoje.

The end-of-the-season League Bloggers Award for the Nigerian top flight, organised by three bloggers, is expected to hold in Lagos in October.

When i chatted with George Akpayen he confirm that this maiden edition has a panel of trusted men and women who will use certain yardsticks to pick the winner.

The LBA also organised of the monthly award in the Nigerian top flight between January and August this year.

 is it true that President Goodluck Jonathan appointed an inter-ministerial committee to look into the many problems affecting this stadium and finding a way to totally rework the poorly managed venue. Is it also true that an agreement had been worked out with a construction firm to re-grass the main pitch. But until the basic clearing of weeds is carried out at the venue, it will surely be a shame and waste of resources for a country with a poor economy and citizen who are barely able to meet their basic needs.

New New Monkey Specie Found In Congo.

I saw this new specie of monkey on CNN,it looks like a creature crossed with a human being,i don't want to believe it is anyway but view it closely,the eyes,nose and lips.hmmmmmm looks like oyibo well. 

Scientist are claiming they discovered this specie of monkey in Congo. the scientists describe this new species that they call Cercopithecus Lomamiensis, known locally as the Lesula whose home is deep in central DR Congo's Lomami forest basin. The scientists say it is only the second discovery of a monkey species in 28 years.

US Embassy Issues Warning To Citizens In Nigeria.

The US embassy in Nigeria  warned Americans about the threat of attacks by extremist groups following the violence in Libya and Egypt, urging extra caution.The “emergency message” issued to Americans living in Africa’s most populous country came after militants attacked the US consulate in Benghazi, killing the US ambassador and three other Americans, hours after a mob attacked the US embassy in Cairo.“Extremists may attempt to target US citizens and other Westerners in Nigeria,” the embassy said in a statement.It noted that radical groups in Nigeria have killed hundreds in recent months in attacks on a range of targets.“The situation in Nigeria remains fluid and unpredictable,” the statement said, urging Americans “to consider their personal security.”On Wednesday, Nigeria’s police chief ordered “24-hour water-tight security” at all foreign embassies.The attacks in Cairo and Benghazi were initially believed to have been perpetrated by mobs outraged over an amateur Internet film made in America that insulted Islam but US officials later said the Benghazi attack might have been planned.Religiously-linked violence has killed thousands of Nigerians in recent years. Robbers Shoot 1 Year Old Boy On The Head.This Boy Needs N500,000 For Treatment.

Taiwo Lawal, a one-year-old baby, who was shot in the head by armed robbers in the Gbagada area of Lagos State on Sunday needs N500, 000 for treatment.

Taiwo, along with many others were shot by the robbers who robbed victims in various parts of the state with impunity.

Taiwo’s father, Wasiu Lawal, told our correspondent that the toddler was hit by a stray bullet during the robbery.

He said, “On Sunday afternoon, Taiwo and my neighbours’ children were playing in the compound when the robbers began shooting.

“Taiwo is still toddling. The other children immediately ran into their houses but Taiwo was hit in the head by a stray bullet.”

Eyewitnesses said Taiwo was hit by the robbers’ bullets when they opened fire on a policeman, Emmanuel, and another victim, Sikiru Abiodun, who later died on Monday during a surgery to remove the bullets in his body.

A vulcanizer, who craved anonymity said, “I don’t know the exact number of robbers that invaded our neighbourhood that day but they came in a Nissan Armada Sports Utility Vehicle.

“The robbers were said to have snatched the car from someone at Ogudu. The robbers forcibly took the vehicle’s owner with them in case the car had a security device.

“One of the robbers was a woman while the men were dressed in native attire. The robbers opened fire on the policeman and shot indiscriminately. It was in the process that Taiwo was shot.”

Our correspondent learnt that Taiwo and other victims were immediately rushed to Gbagada General Hospital but Taiwo was immediately placed on oxygen and drip.

PUNCH Metro learnt that Taiwo was subsequently transferred to the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, Idi-Araba because of the severity of his injury.

Our correspondent, who visited the hospital, learnt that Taiwo was admitted at Modular Operating Theatre Centre where a surgery was immediately performed on him.

The victim’s aunty, Mariam, told our correspondent that the bullet was successfully removed from Taiwo’s skull but added that he was still in critical condition.

She said, “When we got to LUTH, a scan was done and it was discovered that the bullet pierced through one end of Taiwo’s skull to the other end but the bullet did not exit through the other end. The bullet also missed his brain.

“According to the doctors, if the bullet had exited his skull, he could have bled to death. Although the nurses have prevented us from seeing him since the surgery on Tuesday because visitors are not allowed to enter the Intensive Care Unit, they assured us that he is doing fine.

“However, raising money for treatment has been very hard. So far we have spent over N120, 000 and we will need more money. CT Scan, drugs and other medical procedures which will be done will cost a lot of money. We don’t know how much everything will cost but we were told that we would spend at least N500, 000.”

The victim’s father appealed to members of the public as well as the state Governor, Mr. Babatunde Fashola, to come to his aid.

“All the security agents that were wounded are being taken care of by the government. I’ve spent all my money. I appeal to the governor to assist me so that my son will not die,” he said.

Meanwhile, the LASTMA official who was shot by the robbers, Moruf Sosan, has been discharged from the hospital.

A LASTMA official, who confirmed this to our correspondent on the telephone, said Sosan would only be going for regular check-up but would be confined to bed rest at home.

Yemeni Protesters Storm US Embassy In Protest To ''Mohammed Film Trailer.''

Protesters angered by an anti-Islam film made in the US have stormed the grounds of the American embassy in the Yemeni capital, Sanaa.Police shot in the air in an attempt to hold back the crowds, but failed to prevent them gaining access to the compound and setting fire to vehicles.A number of people were reported to have been injured.On Tuesday, the US ambassador to Libya was killed in a fire started after the US consulate in Benghazi was stormed.Security force reinforcements in Sanaa used tear gas, water cannon and live fire to drive back protesters.They have now regained control of the Sanaa compound, but protests are continuing outside.Earlier on Thursday, US officials said they were investigating whether the attack in Libya was planned, citing suspicions that a militant jihadist group may have co-ordinated the violence.Three other US consul staff and several Libyans died in that attack, along with Ambassador J Christopher Stevens, who is believed to have died from smoke inhalation.

Security increasedThere have also been clashes in the Egyptian capital, Cairo.On Wednesday, demonstrators in Cairo angry at the film - Innocence of Muslims - breached the walls of the US embassy and tore down the flag. Clashes continued in the early hours of Thursday morning.President Mohammed Mursi has appealed for calm, saying Egyptians "reject any kind of assault or insult" against the Prophet Muhammad."I condemn and oppose all who insult our prophet. But it is our duty to protect our guests and visitors from abroad," he said in a statement broadcast by state media."I call on everyone to take that into consideration, to not violate Egyptian law... to not assault embassies."

Security has been increased at US embassies and consulates around the world in response to the rising tensions.

US President Barack Obama has vowed to work with the Libyan authorities to bring those behind the Benghazi attack to justice.
