Islamic terrorists – some of whom fought and killed British soldiers in Afghanistan - caught in Saudi Arabia are to receive 'luxury rehabilitation'.
The conservative oil rich state is hoping to steer jailed al-Qaeda militants away from religious extremism with counselling, spa treatments and exercise at a luxury rehabilitation centre in Riyadh, news agencies there are reporting.
The luxury facilities, which the country has spared no expense on providing, include Olympic-size indoor swimming pool, a sauna, a gym and a television hall.

Media representatives are given a tour of a new centre for the rehabilitation of suspected 'terrorists' and potential al-Qaeda recruits in Riyadh

The new centre, which is built on 76 thousand square metres and hosts suspects from 41 different nationalities has similar facilities to a recreational resort

The new facility is to offer prisoners a 'taste of luxury as an incentive to moderate their beliefs'
For those who have shown signs of good behaviour, two day breaks may be granted for those who wish proximity with their wives, in special 'suites' which are part of the complex.
The program will accommodate around 3,000 prisoners in 5 centres in the kingdom but it is the new facility in Riyadh, however, which is to offer prisoners a 'taste of luxury as an incentive to moderate their beliefs'.

All the centres bear the name of the current interior minister, who lead the government’s crackdown on Al-Qaeda within Saudi Arabia following deadly attacks by the group between 2003 and 2006 in which more than 150 Saudis and foreigners were killed.
During the crackdown, many militants fled south into Yemen’s lawless southern and south eastern regions where the network formed 'Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula' in January 2009 -- classified by the United States as the jihadists’ deadliest branch.

'In order to fight terrorism, we must give them an intellectual and psychological balance... through dialogue and persuasion'” said the director of the rehabilitation centres, Said al-Bishi.
He said a total of 2,336 Al-Qaeda prisoners have now been through Saudi rehabilitation schemes.
But not all Al Quada inmates who go through the program become 'converted' to their rehabilitation.
In fact, the director of the centres admits in an interview with journalists that around 10 percent of those who go through the program go back to their terrorist cells. Moreover, there have been some high profile individuals who went through it before leaving and returning to even greater notoriety in Al Quada in that region.
Furthermore, critics in the region have argued that the religious instruction given to inmates is not moderate enough and is too close to many of the jihadists’ interpretation of the Koran and too close to Al Qaeda's own views.

Former Deputy Governor of Benue State Prince Ogiri Ajene has died ,Ogiri passed on in London after a brief illness.
Details of his death are still being awaited as we are still trying to contact his Special Assistant.
Late Ogiri was a very humble and friendly politician ,he became a Councillor after serving as a Deputy Governor for 8 years.
He is also the son of former Ochi Idoma .

One of the best moments the 21st century has bequeathed to the world undoubtedly is the times we are in now, beginning with the invention of interactive media of communication namely: facebook, twitter, youtube and the likes.

Business and social communications have never enjoyed the degree of flexibility the social media offer today. Perhaps its greatest strength lies in the unscripted language that people use in communicating on these platforms.

Though the newspaper, radio and television revolutionized businesses, social and other forms of communication in their early years, social media have taken social and economic transactions to new heights never imagined in the late eighteen/early nineteen centuries when man replaced the manual way of production and distribution with the use of machines.

With facebook, millions of friends and relatives who for years were out of touch, have reconnected, businesses across the globe now make brisk sales on these social media, and the one action that bridged the age gap between president Goodluck Jonathan and Nigerians was the opening of a facebook account.

That action endeared him to millions of Nigerians who saw him as a departure from the old school of leaders. Beyond the social appeal of social media however, countries across the globe are deploying this IT genre to very serious sectors like governance, tax administration and the likes.

Voluntary compliance, which is the desire of most tax administrators can be achieved with ease, if efforts are made by tax officials to secure the friendship of a taxpayer on a platform like facebook.
There, all the questions the taxpayer wants answers to can be adequately answered by the tax officer.

Nelson Gutierrez, in his article entitled  ‘Information Technology In Support Of The Tax Administration Functions And Taxpayer Assistance’  said, “The new technologies reduce processing times and production cycles, permit rapid adjustments in the procedures, grant greater flexibility, which translates into increase in effectiveness.

The impact of the new technologies in the tax administrations, is a consequence of their employment on a worldwide basis. Their rapid expansion, growth and increasingly lower cost, permits us to achieve clear advantages to  improve our administrative processes.”

Explaining the attendant gains of using ICT in this sector, he adds, “Now we can offer services which were not feasible before. We can locate our offices to attend the taxpayer in any part of the world in which a PC connected with Internet exists. Our services can be available to anyone, without requiring physical presence in any of our geographical offices.

Taxpayers can file returns or make their payments from their homes 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and our operating costs to provide this service, are minimal compared with the traditional operating schemes.

Technology allows us increasingly to know more details of each taxpayer and administrate this information to be able to offer personalized services and specific specialized controls.

The quality of the information of the transactions carried out by the taxpayers with the tax administration improves significantly.
Not only can we capture the data from the source that generates them, but we can offer the programs that allows them to generate the data, prepare their returns, settle their taxes and in general allows them to comply with their tax obligations.

We can also increase the means to receive mass information from taxpayers and information agents, reducing significantly the time for processing and availability of that information. Many of the controls that were applied traditionally through massive subsequent procedures can now be applied interactively on line.

It is now easier to capture more and better information from the external environment in which our administrations interact. The possibility of capturing internal information also grows.

In addition to the obvious advantages related with the contact with taxpayers, internally the benefits are very important. In the first instance, we can have direct contact, on line and interactive with all our branches and employees. The aspects of releasing information to employees at all levels is simplified by publicizing the information in our internal portal or the simple use of e-mail.”

Counting the gains of ICT in tax administration, the Indian Finance Minister P.Chidambaram was quoted as saying recently that  “there is need to move towards a technology driven tax administration” and called on all assesses to file tax returns.

“We will have to get each one of the 28 lakh tax deductees (under TDS). The tax amount would be credited to the government and refund would be credited to the deductee. And this can be done only if we move to technology,” Mr. Chidambaram said. A technology-driven tax administration would assist the tax deductor, tax collector and also the payee, he said, adding it will help all the three get linked to each other without being manually involved in the process,” he added.

However, the social media add human face to online communication and if well managed in tax administration can create the friendly environment which eliminates suspicion of the motive of tax administrators, which makes voluntary tax payment impossible.

Chevron Nigeria Limited Donates Chest Clinic To Benue State University Teaching Hospital.

Chevron Nigeria Limited and its partners at the Agbami Oil fields has donated and commissioned a Chest Clinic at the Benue State University Teaching Hospital, BSUTH.

In his speech, the General Manager, Policy, Government and Public Affairs, Chevron Nigeria Limited, Mr. Deji Haastrup said that the clinic was meant to add value to the lives of the people and also contribute positively to the socio-economic development of the country.

Haastrup said that several other projects, mainly chest clinics and science laboratories constitute an aspect of the strategic intervention plan of the Agbami partners in the six geopolitical zones of the country.

Commissioning the clinic, the State Governor, Dr. Gabriel Suswam who was represented by his Deputy, Chief Stephen Lawani commended the Agbami partners for the gesture. noting that the clinic would help in addressing the health needs of the people especially as Benue was rated high in the area of HIV/AIDS and TB prevalence.

Suswam also urged the people to see the project as an opportunity get adequate treatment by patronizing it to improve their health.

Responding, Chief Medical Director, BSUTH, Prof. Orkuga Malu thanked the Agbami Partners for citing the project in the state stressing that the clinic would help in combating rising cases diseases like Tuberculosis ,earlier the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Health said,12,000 persons are infected with tuberculosis across the 23 local government area of Benue State.
This accounts for over 53 per cent of patients suffering from the disease in the entire North Central zone in the country.

43 Years After Train Accident, Ailing Survivor Dies .

The only surviving victim of the 1970 train accident in Langa Langa, Benue State, Mallam Bala Adamu, is dead. He passed on at a government hospital in Kaduna.

LEADERSHIP Weekend had, a fortnight ago, reported that Adamu, 72, had been bedridden in a government hospital since the tragic incident that claimed over 81 lives.

On Friday, February 18, 1970, Mallam Adamu, who was 29 years old at the time, had concluded arrangements for his marriage, which never took place as fate would have it. He spent the greater part of his life in the hospital.

Confirming the story, the chief matron of the hospital, Mallam Shehu Makarfi, said Mallam Adamu died on Wednesday.

He said the deceased was buried at the Tudun Wada burial ground on Thursday at 2pm in accordance with Islamic rites.

According to him, “We have buried him and a lot of people attended the ceremony but we could not get his family because we don’t have their contacts.”

Mallam Adamu had boarded the Enugu-bound passenger train from Zaria, but before he reached Port Harcourt, his destination, fate came knocking as the train derailed and fell into a canyon at Langa Langa, Benue State, killing at least 81 people on board.

The late Adamu who was on an errand to Port Harcourt was given money for taxi fare, but he opted for the free train ride which his friend had offered him. He bid his fiancée and family members farewell at the station; unknown to him, destiny was going to change his life forever.

Adamu’s injuries were grave: he had broken his spinal cord and lost his right leg in the accident which also left him blind. He remained in the hospital until his death.

The deceased, who had spoken to LEADERSHIP Weekend a fortnight ago from his hospital bed, said, “I have been on admission in the hospital for 43 years now. I was brought to Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital (ABUTH) in Kaduna after suffering a spinal cord injury following the train disaster in 1970 at a bridge called Langa Langa, close to a town in Kotoko, now Benue State.”

When asked how he boarded the train, Mallam Adamu explained, “I was not travelling to Benue State that fateful day. I was sent on an errand to Port Harcourt, the capital of Rivers State, when the accident occurred. Though I was given money to take a taxi, when I couldn’t get one to take me straight to Port Harcourt, a friend of mine that worked at the railway station offered to give me a free ticket by train. The accident occurred when the bridge collapsed, killing so many people.”

I think and worry about how much I weigh constantly. I'm a normal weight for my age and height, and I wear a size 14or 16,However, I'm obsessed about what I weigh and I'm always wishing I could lose 10 pounds. I refuse to buy new clothes just in case I lose that 10 pounds and go down a size. Every time I eat I worry if I will gain weight from it.and if I gain or lose a couple of pounds it always returns to where it is now on its own.
I think I'm being irrational, and a huge burden would be lifted from my shoulders if I could let this go. How do I do it or am I Fab and trendy this way?

Lauryn Hill EVICTED For Not Paying Rent!

Lauryn Hill may be gearing up to go from one big house...to another.  She's being sued by her landlord for eviction.  Deets inside...As she prepares for her sentencing next week for tax fraud, Lauryn's landlord is pissed she skippeKd out on paying rent last month.  

Lauryn's been renting a mansion in South Orange, NJ since 2009.  TMZ reports her landlord filed court documents demanding her to pay up or GET OUT!  Apparently, she didn't come off any dollars, so the lawsuit for eviction is a GO.  Right now, she's technically a squatter.

And if she gets sentenced to prison for tax fraud next week, she'll be moving out that house anyway and into the other big house.

Kris Humphries & Kim Kardashian Finally Divorced.

After 536 days of fighting over a 72 day marriage, a settlement has been reached between Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries, ending their 72 day marriage. 
Though they spent more time divorcing than they were actually married, a "confidential" settlement has finally been reached in the divorce battle between Brooklyn Nets balled Kris Humphries and his ex-bride Kim K. 
Though both camps have been silent thus far, (except for the "confidential" leak to TMZ which likely came from the Kardashians), it's expected that an announcement will be made in court today.
As both parties have racked up nearly $300,000 in court fees, we imagine Kim and Kris were both tired of depositions, fighting in the press and being summoned to court.  Plus, despite the seemingly obvious evidence, Kris couldn't prove Kim was fraudulent in getting him to marry her for her show.
Though Kim is expected in court today (since she lives in LA and doesn't have a "job" that ties her down), Kris will likely miss the hearing (as he did others due to his JOB) because he's preparing for the NBA playoffs across the country in Jersey.  No word on why his lawyer didn't negotiate for dates he could actually make it. 
Reportedly, the settlement was likely reached after Kris caved in on wanting an "annulment" versus a "divorce."  The change means he won't have to prove that Kim committed fraud when she married him.
As least now, Kim is free to marry Kanye West before their child is born...but since 'Ye's already stuck for 18 years...will he want to wife her up right away?
