Lauryn Hill Underwhelms her US Tour

Lauryn Hill has left fans "confused" and "underwhelmed" on her present US tour.

The former Fugees singer has habitually appeared up to three hours late for dates during her tour and confused the audience by playing unrecognisable versions of her own songs.

At a recent show in Atlanta, the Everything Is Everything singer reportedly said from the stage how she was tired of "playing the same music night after night".

A disgruntled concertgoer told SandraRose.com: "Lauryn said, 'I want crowd participation,' but nobody could participate because nobody knew the music! Everybody was looking around like, 'What song is this?'"

"It was new music completely. The lyrics were the same, but every single record she played she put a different spin on it. She changed the whole thing.

"You can't just say 'I don't wanna play my music night after night.' That's what we pay our money to hear!"

Meanwhile her former bandmate Wyclef Jean has spoken about Lauryn and third Fugees member Pras Michel, saying that while he loves them, the group - who split up in 1997, but reunited briefly from 2004 to 2006 - will not get back together again.

He said: "It was the first band of hip-hop in our generation. At the end of the day, Pras is my brother and Lauryn is my sister, despite what the media say.

"The Fugees are not meant to be. We're rock stars from a locked group. You're going to have egos and differences but at the end of the day I love them both very much."

Meet Your Presidential Aspirants For 2011 Polls.

...
Now that most of the primaries have been completed, and the presidential flag bearers for the parties have been selected, I think it’s a good time to present the presidential candidates for the 2011 Nigerian Presidential Elections in April. To the best of my knowledge these are the only presidential candidates that have publicly declared their intentions, and still remain as flag bearers for their parties.
The information below was gotten from their websites and Wikipedia for clarification. I have no bias, neither am I encouraging anyone to vote for one person in particular. This is just to raise awareness, so to speak. I encourage everyone to read up about each presidential candidate via their websites, and other resources available to us online. We are at an era where information is a google click away from us as opposed to when we relied on newspapers, propaganda, and rumors to get knowledgeable.
For more information on each candidate, visit their respective websites, read more about them and their platform and vote wisely. Voter Registration is currently open all over the country so if you haven’t registered you have till january 29th to do so.
I wont go into too much grammar, so here goes. A brief introduction and mini bio if you will of all the presidential candidates for the 2011 elections.

I hope this helps those who need a bit of info on each of the candidates. As earlier stated, it’s important you do a bit of research before you vote or support (as the case maybe). There’s really no need complaining if you don’t intend to vote. Let’s leave the negative attitude till after elections. It doesn’t help any to be negative, but it just might pay off to have a positive attitude. Peace. #RSVP.

loy2.0

Loy Okezie is a digital media strategist and founder of Startups Nigeria, the first online technology start-up community in Nigeria.
He has consulted for several small and mid-size companies and helped start-up CareersNigeria.com, one of the leading job portals in Nigeria in 2007.
Loy works full-time as a Content Developer for ConnectNigeria.com, an information search portal for Nigeria similar to Yahoo! and AOL.
One of Loy's biggest moments was when some of the world's biggest blogs VentureBeat and GigaOM, tried to break his servers by linking to this blog after he broke the news about the Encipher Inye, Nigeria's first tablet PC.
he also writes about startup companies for Memeburn, a technology news and analysis site.
.EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW You’re a business graduate right? What influence do you think attending University has on an entrepreneur’s life? Do you think it makes you more aware and prepared to start your own business?
Yeah, I think that University should prepare us all for the business world. Whether you have a background in IT, Business or Arts, I think that the knowledge, skills and networks you build over the years at the University should be leverage for you when starting a business.
As a result of some knowledge, skills and networks acquired while studying at the University, I started a small training outfit that helped over 100 students from different backgrounds to improve on their presentation skills.
From that experience, I learned how to deal and handle people with different abilities while improving my communication skills. Ultimately, I learned some practical lessons on managing people and running a business.
How did you get involved in technology and start-ups?
I grew up with computers and although I didn’t have my first PC until I was in the University, I developed a lot of interest in the technologies (I use every day), the companies (that innovate them), the people (behind them) as well as emerging technology developments in the new web space.
My inspiration came from several books I read on how technology companies such as Google, Yahoo and eBay started. Then, I started reading technology blogs such as TechCrunch, Mashable, VentureBeat, GigaOM and RWW, all of which provide a daily dose of Internet companies and their activities.
That said, my most inspiring entrepreneurial driving force is Sir Richard Branson, best known for his Virgin brand of over 360 companies. His adventure into space tourism with Virgin Galactic which takes paying passengers into suborbital space is the most audacious venture I’ve ever heard of.
Thus, upon returning from France in 2008 where I spent about 3 years studying, I invested a lot of my time and resources exploring web start-ups. As a result, I founded Startups Nigeria in order to showcase technology-related companies especially web 2.0 and mobile start-ups from Nigeria.
This has afforded me the opportunity to meet some of the smartest brains behind some of the best start-ups as well as some potential investors in the web and mobile space.
Tell us about Startups Nigeria?
Back in April 2008, I founded Startups Nigeria as a startups and technology news-related blog with an international focus on Nigeria. The blog eventually became very popular, influential and highly respected within the Nigerian and African technology and social media space.
Today, Startups Nigeria is a youth-driven, online community for technology enthusiasts, internet start-ups, companies, entrepreneurs, investors and students, all pioneering innovations in Nigeria’s emerging start-up eco-system and Internet economy.
With the new platform found at www.startupsnigeria.org (still in private beta), users can build their profile page, add and promote their start-ups, share their start-up stories, photos, videos, follow other start-ups, find ideal start-up partners, find technology-related jobs, find entrepreneurs and investors and lots more.
The idea of the platform is to help build Nigeria’s emerging dot-com Internet industry and contribute towards a knowledge-based economy in Nigeria by the year 2020 and beyond.
In the future, we hope to become a technology start-up incubator and help fund financially viable start-ups from Nigeria and African entrepreneurs.
What companies are you excited about in the Nigerian start up community?
Basically, I’m excited about companies that are using innovation to create value and solve problems. Thus, if there are any entrepreneurs and start-ups out there that apply this principle, I’ll be singing their praises louder and possibly backing them financially.
What change are you looking for in the Nigerian start up, changes that should be adopted to bring growth and expansion in the start-up community?
We need to see a lot of innovative thinking and approach.
We need to see new and exciting business revenue models.
We need to see collaboration with other entrepreneurs in Nigeria and Africa.
We need to see a vibrant technology community that fosters healthy discussions on the emerging web, mobile and Internet industry.
We need to see our Universities teaching emerging web and mobile app technologies.
We need to see web and mobile app development competitions sponsored by huge technology companies and targeted at University students.
We need to see technology incubators and angel investments.
Do you think it’s important that any internet company fully engage in social media to be successful?
Not necessarily, but it could go a long way in building a community faster and easier.
You’ve typically been ahead of the curve with tech and social trends (video blogging, social media, etc). What do you see as the “next big thing” – a technology or trend that will change the game yet again?
Location-based services like Foursquare and Gowalla.
Any other words of wisdom for young entrepreneurs looking to start a new business?
Never Think Average. Never Quit.
So what’s next for you?
Building an emerging digital media brand that will change the way we live.
Thank you for your time loy, hope to speak to you soon.

The Future Awards Pre -Conference

The organisers of The Future Awards have formally announced the Keynote Speaker for this year’s edition which holds on Sunday, January 30, 2011. This is the sixth edition.
The keynote address is a yearly tradition that has seen some of the nation’s most respected role models from across the world address the brightest and best Nigerian young leaders directly in an intellectually charged environment – one of the unique attributes that have made the awards stand out in stature and impact. 2008’s Keynote Speaker was former Minister for Education and Vice President of the World Bank, Obiageli Ezekwesili and 2010’s Keynote Speaker was Managing Director of the World Bank, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala.
Indeed Dr. Okonjo-Iweala’s turn at the podium last year is memorable for injecting into the media and youth culture the revelation that the youth constitute 70 per cent of the population. That information and the charge from her speech for young people to take charge of the change process has been credited as the launching pad for initiatives like Nigeria’s largest coalition of youth groups working for free and fair elections, Enough is Enough Nigeria and other initiatives for good governance.
This year’s Keynote Speaker is expected to walk in that fine tradition. Olusegun Aganga, former Managing Director with Goldman Sachs is Nigeria’s Minister of Finance as well as Chairman of the 2010 Board of the World Bank and International Monetary Fund (BWI).

The Future Awards (TFA) 2011 this year holds at the Landmark Events Centre in Lagos. Winners will be unveiled in categories from Best Use of Science and Best Use of Technology to On-Air Personality of the Year and Creative Artist of the Year.
TFA continues to blaze a trail as Africa’s biggest youth awards and Nigeria’s most influential youth event, partnering over the years with the World Bank, the British Council, the Federal Ministries of Information, Education and Youth, amongst others, and reaching up to 10 states of the country as well as Ghana, South Africa and the United Kingdom.
This year’s edition is supported by Access Bank, HiTV and the Miccom Golf Resorts. Official media partners are Y! (www.ynaija.com), Cool FM and Wazobia FM. More information is on www.thefuturenigeia.com.

A new fragrance by perfumer Patrick McCarthy, entitled simply 'Money', has been created to smell just like the real money..

A new fragrance by perfumer Patrick McCarthy, entitled simply 'Money', has been created to smell just like the real thing. Even the packaging has been pimped up, with the bottle lounging in a bed of real shredded dollar bills. Money was inspired by a Japanese study that found the smell of the green stuff made us work more efficiently. Tests on workers in factories showed that they worked harder when the smell of money was pumped through the air vents. Designed for wearing in the workplace, the fragrance makers hopes to achieve some seriously profitable results. 'Her Money' tries to reproduce 'the clean scent of freshly minted bills', according to manufacturers Liquid Money, who've described the scent as subtle but layered with the aromas of tropical fruits. 'His Money' imitates the 'woodier' bank note, combining wafts of rosemary and precious woods with ocean breezes and bright citrus. The makers promise that the fragrance will, 'create your own personal scent of success.' Currently available in the US only ( $35 for 50 ml), we're hoping that the scent will soon be available in the Nigeria so that we can all spray ourselves successful.
