Army finds missing General's vehicle in Jos pond. Photos

General Alkali’s car has been found in the Jos pond. Four other cars also found inside it

The Jos pond, where the car of missing Major General Idris Alkali was found on Saturday, contained other shocking secrets: four other cars were also found inside it.

“This pond contains a lot of hidden secrets. There are four more cars that we have discovered to be inside for now. We are determined to unveil all the secrets in it,” said Major General Augustine Agundu, Commander Special Task Force.

Alkali’s car registered as MUN-670-AA Kwara State, was pulled out of the pond at about 7 p.m, with the combined effort of NEMA, the Fire Service and local divers.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Alkali, former Chief of Administration Nigerian Army was declared missing since Sept. 3.

Agundu told journalists that the search started on Sept. 22 at the site after receiving intelligence reports about the location of the vehicle.

Agundu explained that the missing general was caught up in a fracas at Dura-Du on Aug. 2, when irate youths blocked roads and attacked travellers following an attack in the community on Sept. 2 where 13 persons were killed.

“We started this search on Sept. 22 when we were ordered by the Chief of Army staff to find the missing general.

“We recall that on Sept. 2, the Du District was attacked by armed bandits where 13 were killed and others sustained injuries.

“The general who just left service after 35 years was travelling to Bauchi and he drove himself having left service. Unfortunately he ran into the irate youths who blocked the road.

“We got information about his movement and swung into action to find him. We got intelligence report and convinced ourselves that this pond was where he was dumped.

“There are about 32 abandoned mining sites in this community but to single this one out, you must know a lot of intelligence gathering was done.

“On the first day of operations, some organised women resisted our operations claiming the pond was their source of drinking water and ancestral water but they were all lies.

The GOC, 53rd Army Division, Maj. Gen. Benson Akinroluyo while confirming the discovery said that the car belonged to the missing general. He said Alkali’s body has not been found.

Akinroluyo said that the search for the body will continue immediately and advised members of the community to go about their lawful duties. He stressed that the army will not intimidate them on the findings.

“The vehicle is indeed that of missing Major General Alkali. We have not seen the body but the plate number on the car is his own.

“The Army T-Shirt found has his name tag on it. So I can confidently confirm all these we have found here belongs to him.

“The army is a professional body which carries out its operation according to best practices and human rights. We will not arrest anyone not involved.

“Our intelligence pinpointed where his vehicle was pushed to. So you will know that we have credible intelligence on who and who is involved and we will get them arrested,” he said. (NAN)

Hamzat steps down for Sanwo-Olu ahead of Lagos APC guber primary

Obafemi Hamzat has withdrawn from the Lagos state governorship race.
Hamzat was a governorship aspirant on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

While announcing his withdrawal during a press conference on Saturday, Hamzat directed his supporters to vote for Babajide Sanwo-Olu at the party’s primary on Sunday.

He said he is stepping down for Sanwo-Olu because he can vouch for his personal integrity and intelligence.

“I’ve resolved to step down and source resources together with my brother and friend, Babajide Sanwo-Olu. So, all my supporters are hereby directed to vote tomorrow for Mr. Sanwo-Olu to emerge as the governorship candidate of the APC in Lagos,” he said.

“Apart from the fact that I can vouch for his personal integrity and intelligence, Mr. Sanwo-Olu is someone I’ve had close interaction with over the years.

“We are both fortunate to have worked closely with the present vice-president, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, getting the wise counsel of those I consider to be political fathers and mothers.”

Sanwo-Olu is seen as the major challenger of Akinwunmi Ambode, the incumbent governor of the state.

A former banker, he is believed to have the backing of Mandate Movement, a group loyal to Bola Tinubu, chieftain of the APC.

2019: Crisis hits Kogi PDP as aspirants accuse Saraki of favouring Dino Melaye

Aspirants on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party for its Kogi West Senatorial District ticket have vowed to work against the party in the 2019 general elections.

The aspirants in Abuja on Saturday protested what they called their unjust disqualification by the party from the race.

They, however, vowed not to quit the party but work against it in the 2019 elections, should the party leaders fail to do the needful over the alleged injustice they claimed had been meted to them.

In a statement in Abuja on Saturday, the aspirants also accused the President of the Senate, Dr. Bukola Saraki, of being the architect of their last-minute disqualification.

They said they were meted with the treatment in order to pave the way for Senator Dino Melaye who recently defected to the party from the All Progressives Congress.

The disqualified aspirants are a member of the House of Representatives, Sunday Karimi; a one time Speaker of the state House of Assembly and former Acting Governor of the state, Mr. Clement Obafemi; a two-time member of the state House of Assembly, Mr. Henry Ojuola and a former member of the State House of Assembly and former Chairman of Yagba East Local Government of the State respectively, Mr. Oreniya Salaudeen.

The national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC),Adams Oshiomhole currently is trending on social media over a 'blunder' he made during a press conference on Friday.

Oshiomhole made the gaffe while commenting on the Osun governorship rerun election which was won by Gboyega Oyetola, his party’s candidate.

“I think that for democracy to flourish, only people who can accept the pain of rigging…..”, he said. However, regaining consciousness, the outspoken APC chairman rebuffed the phrase ‘pain of rigging’ and said “I think that for democracy to flourish, only people who can accept the pain of rigging, sorry of defeat should participate in an election.”

Aisha Alhassan Switches To UDP After Dumping APC

Some few hours after she quit the All Progressives Congress, Aisha Alhassan, the former minister of women affairs, fondly known as Mama Taraba announced she has switched to United Democratic Party (UDP).

She took to Twitter to make the announcement. The same platform she earlier today announced her resignation both from President Muhammadu Buhari’s cabinet and withdrawal from the All Progressives Congress.

APC national chairman, Adams Oshiomhole said she was not cleared to run for the primary  governorship ticket of the party, which takes place tomorrow, but Alhassan appeared keen in joining the race for the governorship of the state as she immediately moved to UDP.

She Tweetted:

“I have officially JOINED my next POLITICAL PARTY with 7 state Assembly Members, all @APCNigeria executives from 169 wards of Taraba State. All 16 local Government exco’s of APC All states executives of APC, we are now in UDP”.

Dele Momodu Makes Shocking Revelations About APC-Led Administration (Must Read)

Ovation Magazine publisher, Dele Momodu has via his weekly column, the ‘Pendulem’ made shocking revelations about the just concluded Osun State governorship election. According to him, “APC merely used the elections in Ekiti and Osun as dress rehearsals of what to expect in next year’s general elections” because if Buhari loses they would end up manipulating the result same way they did in Osun state, He also disclosed that a former President had told him months ago that Nigerians should not expect President Buhari to lose the election and quit quietly like President Goodluck Jonathan did in 2015…

Read his insightful and mind-blowing article in full:

Fellow Nigerians, let’s not mince words today and go straight to the crux of the matter. What transpired in the State of Osun, as my dear Brother, the Governor, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, loves to refer to our State, was not a Gubernatorial, but prelude to Presidential election. The interest and resources galvanised for that election demonstrated that it was a civil war and not a civilised election.

The election was seen and executed as a referendum on the tenure of President Muhammadu Buhari and its wobbly government. While the ruling party appeared determined, or maybe ‘desperate’ is the appropriate word, to win, the main opposition party looked jazzed and disinterested. But for the merciful interventions of former Vice President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and the President of the Nigerian Senate, Dr Abubakar Bukola Saraki, the PDP candidate, Senator Nurudeen Ademola Adeleke, could as well have been a virtual orphan. It was that bad.

What manner of opposition would sit at home, arms akimbo, after seeing how the President, Vice President, Governors, Ministers and party Chieftains all invaded, and flooded, Osun as if their lives depended on it? I fail to understand how PDP can parade over a dozen Presidential aspirants yet only few of them are showing irrevocable commitment to serious party matters while the rest are only pursuing personal agenda.

Adeleke was just lucky to be blessed with a family that had the means to fund his campaign and in particular a megastar, David Adeleke (aka Davido), who unleashed his monstrous talent on the campaign. The ways of politicians are certainly not the ways of ordinary mortals. I could not believe how they turned Osun into a theatre of war because of a few thousand votes. I thought that, by now, Nigeria had passed this disgraceful and embarrassing stage.

I have no doubt that c. A former President had told me months ago that we should not expect President Buhari to lose the election and quit quietly like President Goodluck Jonathan did in 2015, but I disagreed most vehemently. Thank God, we did not take a bet because with what happened in Osun, in particular, I don’t see the APC apparatchik agreeing to vacate power without a truculent fight.

Many people, Nigerians and non-Nigerians have come to the incontrovertible conclusion that what we currently have is an army of occupation and we should accept our fate with equanimity. But no country can afford not to have a virile opposition. This is why it is sad and tragic that those who were in opposition only yesterday are perpetrating the same unfortunate acts we collectively rejected and dismissed not too long ago.

It is also a shame that political parties have become over-proliferated in our dear beloved country. This has made it difficult for us to have a unified resolve to challenge what may ultimately turn into a Gestapo and most oppressive civilian regime. The PDP that should fight back stoutly to give a good fight is already gasping for breath because of multiple ambitions of individuals who may choose to turn coat at the drop of a hat. From the multitude of PDP aspirants and even the cacophony of permutations about who can challenge Buhari to a duel, it is becoming clear, to discerning minds, that there are only two, possibly three serious challengers and no more.

Of these three, two currently stand tall. One is old and the other is young. It seems patently obvious, from the recent shenanigans that we have seen, that President Buhari and his people would do everything humanly possible to avoid confronting either of these two candidates at the polls next year.

Moving on, let me say with every emphasis I can muster, no candidate from the core North can compete against, and defeat, Buhari simply on the basis that they come from the core North. It is practically impossible.

The jejune argument that PDP should pick a candidate who can divide the core Northern votes is either a joke carried too far or a deliberate decision to hand power back to the incumbent on a platter of gold. What the PDP needs urgently is a candidate who can explode its votes in the entire South and the North Central. I do not hereby advocate for any candidate. I make my thesis only on the basis of empirical analysis.

Buhari lost elections three consecutive times because he couldn’t saunter across those zones. If you doubt my assertion, let’s examine the figures, in practical terms. In 1999, PDP scored 4,226,330 in South South while ANPP/AD recorded 1,205,087. PDP 2,307,712 in South East and ANPP/AD 978,997. PDP 1,092,216 in South West and ANPP/AD 4,366,993. This was Chief Olu Falae versus General Olusegun Obasanjo.

The Yoruba can mobilise humongous votes when they feel they have their own in the race. The sentiment was in favour of Falae. PDP 3,675,027 in North Central and ANPP/AD 1,461,840. PDP 3,552,354 in North East and ANPP/AD 1,412,426. PDP 3,887,536 in North West and ANPP/AD 1,684,934. In 2003, PDP jumped to 6,953,679 in South South and ANPP 365,161. PDP 3,161,150 in South East and ANPP 253,079. PDP 5,031,288 in South West and ANPP 195,024. PDP 3,257,956 in North Central and ANPP 1,993,705. PDP 2,941,208 in North East and ANPP 3,694,367. PDP 2,764,846 in North West and ANPP 6,453,437.

This was the year Buhari started contesting the Presidency. On this occasion he contested on the platform of ANPP. In 2007, PDP had 6,118,608 in South South and ANPP 365,161. PDP 4,985,246 in South East and ANPP 253,079. PDP 2,836,417 in South West and ANPP 195,024. PDP 3,376,570 in North Central and ANPP 1,744575. PDP 1,832,651 in North East and ANPP 3,660919. PDP 3,466,924 in North West and ANPP 6,453,437. Buhari again contested as ANPP Presidential candidate.

In 2011, PDP recorded 6,118,608 in South South and ANPP 49,978. PDP 4,985,246 in South East and ANPP 20,335. PDP 2,786,417 in South West and ANPP 321,609. PDP 3,123,126 in North Central and ANPP 1,612,999. PDP 1,832,622 in North East and ANPP 3,624,910. PDP 3,395,724 in North West and ANPP 6,453,437.

Buhari was again the flagbearer of the ANPP. In 2015, PDP secured 4,714,725 in South South and APC 418,590. PDP 2,464,906 in South East and APC 198,248. PDP 1,821,416 in South West and APC 2,433,193. PDP 1,715,818 in North Central and APC 2,411,013. PDP 796,580 in North East and APC 2,848,678. PDP 1,339,709 in North West and APC 7,115,199. The import of these figures is that whosoever can checkmate Buhari from the Middlebelt downwards would always defeat Buhari.

This does not necessarily mean such a candidate should come from these regions, but it would be ideal. A candidate with cross-over appeal from the North East and North West would also do well provided he does not believe that his place of origin means he should concentrate his effort in that region or adjunct region. PDP should forget the pipe dream of competing favourably against Buhari in the North East and North West.

He has consistently won overwhelming in those two regions. However, if President Buhari can be restricted to those two zones while opposition locks down the other four zones of the country, then the prospects of the opposition PDP resoundingly beating the APC candidate becomes much brighter.     PDP or any intelligent party must apply Isaac Newton’s third Law of Motion: “actions and reactions are always equal and opposite.” Buhari would be 76, his opponent must be the opposite by being much younger. 70 percent of the electorate are under the age of 45. Opposition requires a candidate who can readily galvanise a multitude of first-time voters.

Nigeria is long overdue for a candidate in the mould of Barack Obama, an energetic and cosmopolitan leader. Politics as a game of numbers must be approached meticulously. Buhari has stupendous State appurtenances and resources to deploy, his opponent must have access to similar armoury or have sufficient wherewithal to match the substantial resources of State and not be a scavenger in search of m0rale, audacity and finance. I’m not sure about what the third force can produce. I have expressed this publicly and privately.

There are those like my dear friend, former Governor Donald Duke, Frank Nweke Jnr. and others who feel a third force can fly next year. I sincerely doubt this. Indeed, I would like to dismiss this as mere wishful thinking. There may also be a fourth force, the Take Back Nigeria Movement being propelled by Omoyele Sowore who has worked extremely hard across Nigeria, but I believe he still has a lot of distance to cover.

The reason is simple. He would have gone very far if he could muster the support of other younger candidates. Same with Fela Durotoye, Kingsley Moghalu and others. I truly wish there could be a consensus candidate, but alas! Where do we go from here, realistically? I think the toughest opposition can still come from PDP if it can rescue itself from certain interests and manage to pick a kamikaze candidate who is not docile and who is ready to fight all the way with everything at his disposal.

No meek or lily-livered gentleman can fight and conquer Buhari next year. The lesson to pick from Osun, while litigation processes are being cooked, is that the next Presidential election is not going to be the stuff of conventional warfare. A serious opposition must prepare for the use of ballistic and anti-ballistic missiles. This is the reality of what to expect.

In his words, ‘I sincerely advise PDPN that irrespective of who gets their Presidential ticket, they should make Davido a member of the Presidential Campaign Council. Wherever the Presidential candidate goes, Davido should go with him. They can thank me when they win’.

‘Don’t let Boko Haram kill our daughter’ – Leah Sharibu’s parents cry out to Buhari

Parents of Leah Sharibu have appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari to ensure their daughter is not killed by the Boko Haram sect.

The insurgents had threatened to eliminate Leah, should the government failed to meet their demands before October.

But the mother at a press conference on Saturday in Jos, the Plateau State capital, appealed to President Buhari to do all within his power to stop the terrorists from carrying out their threat and as well ensure the safe and speedy release of her daughter.

Speaking amidst profuse tears, Mrs. Sharibu thanked all those who have been standing with the family in prayers, moral and motivational support not to relent until her daughter is returned.

“Since February that my daughter alongside her schoolmates were abducted, it has been heartbroken for me as a mother, especially after her colleagues were released and she was held back.

“I’m appealing to President Muhammadu Buhari to apply all efforts used in ensuring the release of her colleagues; same should be used to free her as well, because there should be no reason, whatsoever, why her matter should be different.”

In the same vein, Leah’s father said since the abduction of their daughter the family has never being the same.

Speaking to journalists via a phone call that was put on speaker after his wife’s address, Nathan, also reechoed his wife’s plea for their daughter’s release.

He further explained that since the incident happened, there has been no threat to the family whatsoever, except the frequent enquiries from individuals, groups/bodies nationally and internationally.

The Arole Oodua & Ooni of Ife, Ooni Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, Ojaja II, has returned from his seclusion after moving into ILEDI house at Iremo quaters in Ile-Ife last Sunday where he was incommunicado in an annual 7-day seclusion to kick-start the 2018 Olojo festival.

The monarch ended the 7-day seclusion on Saturday (today) as he’s set to appear to the public with the Oduduwa’s sacred AARE CROWN traditionally worn once in a year by the Ooni.

The Ooni said that the 7-day seclusion was used as a point of contact to the Almighty Olodumare(GOD) praying for the Kingdom of Ile-Ife, State of Osun and the entire Nigeria for a new dawn of socio-economic advancement.

The Ooni who is the Co-Chairman of National Council Of Traditional Rulers Of Nigeria congratulated the government and people of the State of Osun for conducting themselves maturely before, during and after last Saturday’s governorship election.

19-Year-Old Boy Strips Woman Naked In Order To ‘Deliver Her From Evil Spirit’

A Lagos court has handed a 19-year old, Saheed Emmanuel, two years imprisonment without an option of fine for scamming a 60-year old woman by stripping her naked under the false pretence of delivering from evil spirits.

The incident took place at Governor’s Road in Ikotun area of Lagos where Emmanuel met the 60-year old victim said to be suffering from an undisclosed ailment.

The convict’s journey to prison started after he told the woman that he was born a spiritualist and had powers to heal sicknesses and diseases; both physical and spiritual and she believed him.

The woman opened up to him about her predicament and he assured her that he would deliver her through his spiritual powers. He then asked her to bring N120,000 for the spiritual work, she collected the money from his son and gave to him.

Thereafter, Saheed asked her to prepare for the spiritual work and took her to a river at the Badagry area of Lagos.

At the river, he asked her remove her clothes which she did. While she was naked, he touched every part of her private under the false pretence of conducting the said deliverance. He also instilled fear in the 60-year old woman and her condition became worse. At that point, she opened up to her children and told them about the alleged scam.

The matter was reported at the police at Ikotun Division and Saheed Emmanuel was arrested and later charged before the Ejigbo Magistrates court where he pleaded guilty.

The prosecutor, Inspector G. Simon, presented the facts before the court and he admitted that he did so.

Thus, the Presiding Magistrate, Mr. L.K.J. Layeni, found him guilty as charged. He was taken to prison custody where he will spend the next six months as the court ordered that the terms will run concurrently.

NYSC: I will like to serve – Shittu

Minister of Communications, Dr Adebayo Shittu

The minister of communications and a governorship aspirant of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Oyo State, Dr. Adebayo Shittu, Saturday, expressed willingness to attend the mandatory National Youths Service Corps, NYSC Scheme if the need arise.

Speaking exclusively in an interview with a well known Ibandan-based broadcast journalist, Edmund Obilo, on his programme ‘State Affairs’, Shittu averred that he is not Kemi who forged her certificate, noting that Kemi was a victim of circumstance.
His words, “I am not Kemi Adeosun because I didn’t have any forged certificate of exemption. When asked if he would like to serve, Shittu opined, “Of course I will go; it will be a pleasant thing to go after I have been governor by the grace of God,”

When Mr Obilo again asked him whether he would like to serve in Daura, he responded in the affirmative.

“Whichever camp…it doesn’t matter, Daura is part of Nigeria.  “I will serve in any place if it becomes necessary for me to go.”

Again, Mr Obilo asked Mr Shittu whether he would serve if he does not become the governor of Oyo state.

“If it becomes necessary I will, but Court will have to decide whether serving in the house of assembly and being minister is not superior and does not replace service in the NYSC.”

Recall that Shittu was among those disqualified by the All Progressives Congress, APC, due to the controversy surrounding his failure to undergo the National Youth Service Corps NYSC scheme.

BREAKING: Nigerian Army Finds Missing General’s Vehicle In Pond

The Nigerian Army has recovered the vehicle of a missing military general inside a pond in Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State.

The vehicle was in a pond at Dura Du, but it is unclear if it was empty.

Major General Idris Alkali (Retd) has been missing for weeks and the military authorities have since launched a search for him.

The Commander of the 3 Division of the Nigerian army and leader of the search and rescue mission, Brigadier-General Umar Mohammed, told Channels Television on September 20 that the troops had been deployed to Dura Du.

According to him, following a preliminary investigation, the vehicle of the missing officer was seen close to the pond.

He explained that the military had also received information that some vehicles had been pushed into the pond.

Consequently, Mohammed stated that the Force will do its best to find the missing officer even if it meant draining it (the pond).

“We came here for the past three days seeing if we could salvage anything from the river. But this river, being a mining site is very deep. You can see that we have a crane. At the last resort, we have now decided that we will evacuate the water from the pond so that we can see what is inside,” he said.

The retired general was said to have been travelling from Abuja to Bauchi in a black Corolla vehicle on September 3 before he went missing.

Mimiko dumps Labour Party

The former governor of Ondo State, Olusegun Mimiko, has dumped the Labour Party for the Zenith Labour Party.

The spokesman for the former governor, Eni Akinsola, who confirmed this during an interview with TheCable, said Mimko has joined the ZLP

According to Akinsola, Mimiko said he is bothered by the “subtle hijack” of LP by the All Progressives Congress’ national chairman, Adams Oshiomhole, using the Nigeria Labour Congress leadership.

Akinsola said, “Yes, he has left the Labour Party. Yesterday, he consulted with all his political structures across the state, and he updated them with fact, with what has been happening since he went to LP.

“On the day he declared for the presidency, the NLC chairman said he was not wanted, one Omotosho claiming to be factional chairman of the Labour Party too claimed he was not welcome.

“Like they say, once beaten, twice shy. Issues in PDP about who was the chairman then, who was not, made us lose Ondo state in 2016, nothing else. I tell you now if we had time and opportunity to campaign like every other party, we would have won Ondo state but that is gone anyway.

“The issue now is that Dr Mimiko is not ready to expose himself and his followers to such kind of things again. This same Omotosho went to Ilorin, Kwara state and promised to deliver 16 million votes to Buhari.”

BREAKING: Lagos APC gov primary: Hamzat steps down for Sanwo-Olu

A governorship aspirant on the platform of the All Progressives Congress in Lagos, Dr. Femi Hamzat, has withdrawn from the race.

Hamzat, who spoke during a press conference in Lagos on Saturday, said he took the decision to support the ambition of another aspirant, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

He also directed his supporters to cast their votes for Sanwo-Olu during the party’s primary tomorrow.

According to him, he can vouch for Sanwo-Olu’s integrity and personal intelligence.

Sanwo-Olu, who was also at the event, would tomorrow contest the party’s governorship ticket with the incumbent governor, Akinwunmi  Ambode.

New video shows moment rapper is ambushed and killed outside dealership

video footage of ambush

Police released video footage showing a new angle of the moment rapper XXXTentacion was shot and killed by armed robbers outside a motorcycle dealership in June.

The video footage shows a black SUV blocking the rapper’s BMW i8 in the parking lot of the dealership in Deerfield Beach, FL. Two armed robbers wearing hoodies jump out of the SUV and approach the driver’s side of X’s car.

Both suspects point guns at the 20-year-old, whose real name is Jahseh Onfroy. The shorter suspect reaches into Onfroy’s car and appears to struggle with him.

The footage shows the moment when the taller suspect shot Onfroy, killing him.

The suspects stole a Louis Vuitton backpack containing $50,000 in cash that Onfroy withdrew from a bank earlier that day.

Suspect Robert Allen’s bail was denied following the release of the videos. Three other suspects are being held without bail in connection with Onfroy’s death.

Nigerians Come For Simi Over Her Tweet On Osun State Election

Award winning singer, Simi has come under some serious backlash after she made a very sensitive tweet on the the just concluded Osun elections.

The just concluded Osun rerun elections, that saw the APC led administration return to power in the state; a development that was not well received by some Nigerians. The singer in reacting to the victory of APC asked:

“Why would you want to lead people that don’t want you to lead them? #stumped”

And some social media users replied the question by attacking her severely.

One referred to her as a ‘shameless bot that needs to be ignored’.

And another asked “why would you want to release a song everyone don’t want to listen to?” And another twitter user called her an ‘idiot’ for asking such a question, while one requested she directs her question to APC…

Governorship Ticket: Why APC disqualified Shittu, Al-Hassan – Oshiomhole

The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Adams Oshiomhole, on Friday said the party had to disqualify the Minister of Communication, Adebayo Shittu and his Women Affairs counterpart, Aisha Al-Hassan in order to protect the party’s core values.

He said this at a press conference, in Abuja, on Friday.

Oshiomhole said the party’s governorship screening committee was not convinced with explanations offered by Shittu that his service as lawmaker in the Oyo State Assembly and Minister was equivalent to the National Youth Service Corps scheme.

According to him, Nigeria’s laws were clear on the issue of the NYSC. As for the Minister of Women Affairs, Aisha Al-Hassan, he said she was disqualified because the party was not convinced about her loyalty.

Oshiomhole said “As for the Honourable Minister of Women Affairs, she has issues that have to do with party loyalty. Our constitution is clear and it dictates that to contest elections or even hold office in the APC, you must be loyal to the party in every material concern.

“From all she had said in the past and even her comments and general attitude during the screening, the NWC reviewed everything taken together and we arrived at the conclusion that she does not possess the level of loyalty that the APC requires for her to contest elections on our platform.

“We made it clear when the defections happened that the APC may well benefit from these defections if it helps us to be more critical in terms of whom we give platform to contest elections and that there are core values that binds the APC together and they are non-negotiable.

“The Electoral Act and the APC constitution forbid anyone from being a member of more than one political party at a time. You cannot be a member of APC and be a card carrying member of another party but when you have a situation where it would appear, based on what you know and based on what I know that someone is probably APC in the day time maybe for the purpose of retaining certain offices and they are PDP at heart.”

Earlier, the party had cleared the Kaduna state Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, his Kano and Kebbi State counterparts, Abdullahi Ganduje and Abubakar Bagude respectively, to run as sole aspirants in Sunday’s APC Governorship primaries in their States.

This was contained in a statement signed by the acting National Publicity Secretary, Yekini Nabena, in Abuja, on Friday.

Nigeria must do more to fight poverty – Pastor Adeboye

The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has said the recent report that Nigeria is the poorest in the world is the hypocrisy of the West against Africans.

Notwithstanding the report, the cleric said it should propel Nigerian leaders to do more in the fight against corruption and fighting poverty.

According to a statement, Adeboye stated this recently in Lagos at a special prayer and thanksgiving service for men, organised by the RCCG National Headquarters, Throne of Grace Parish.

At the programme tagged, “Dominion over the mighty,” the cleric said western countries also had the “poorest of the poor” among them but oftentimes were underreported.

He said, “You will move round some so-called developed countries and one will be shocked by the level of poverty that the people are experiencing.”

Adeboye, who spoke through his Assistant General Overseer, Personnel and Administration, Pastor Johnson Odesola, asked, “Who is doing the categorisation of developed countries and some undeveloped countries. It is the opinion of the few people whose facts can be contested.

“When they talk, they talk about the things that favour them and they want us to continue in the trajectory that our system is failing so that they will continue to benefit from our failures.”

Still, he urged the government at all levels to use the report as an opportunity to double their fight against the scourge of poverty and inequality ravaging our country.

Controversy trails alleged resignation of Women Affairs minister

There are strong indications that the Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Aisha Alhassan, may dump the ruling All Progressives Congress to the United Democratic Party.

An aide to Mrs. Alhassan, who pleaded anonymity, told newsmen that the former minister resigned her appointment on Friday morning.

She was said to be waiting for President Muhammadu Buhari’s response before joining the UDP.

However, when contacted, the media aide to Alhassan, Mr. Bala Maina, said the resignation remained a speculation and that the former minister would react at the appropriate time.

He said, “We can’t say anything for now, but note that the masses own the party and we shall always align ourselves with their verdict.”

A source close to the minister said her resignation had to do with the decision of the National Working Committee of the APC, which refused to grant her clearance to contest the governorship primary of the party in her home state of Taraba slated for Sunday.

Alhassan and the Minister of Communications, Adebayo Shittu, who is from Oyo State, were not cleared to contest for the governorship primary by the National Working Committee of the party.

Though no reason was given in the case of Alhassan, Shittu was not cleared following his failure to participate in the mandatory one-year National Youth Service Corps scheme.

Another source told newsmen in Jalingo, the capital of Taraba State, that Alhassan was not surprised by the decision as she was privy to an alleged plot by the National Chairman of the Party, Mr. Adams Oshiomhole, to frustrate her ambition of becoming the next governor of Taraba State.

It was gathered that the open declaration by the former minister in support of the presidential ambition of a former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, put her in the bad books of the APC leadership.

The source said, “The minister is a force to reckon with in Taraba and nobody can win her among those contesting for the party’s gubernatorial ticket in the state.

“Her political weight became a threat to the bigwigs in the party who are out to satisfy their personal interests. Clash of interests in the APC led to the decision not to clear the minister whom they believe will win the ticket against their preferred candidates given whatever mode of primary that would be adopted by the party.”

$115M US fighter jet crashes in South Carolina.

A US F-35 pilot was forced to eject midair after the $100million fighter jet crashed in South Carolina.

The aircraft was completely destroyed in the crash during a training exercise Friday, officials said.

The crash appears to be the first of its kind for the troubled F-35 program, marking an unfortunate moment for the most expensive plane in history.

Speaking on condition of anonymity ahead of an official announcement, a defense official told AFP that the Marine Corps F-35 had crashed outside Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort in South Carolina.

The aircraft was completely destroyed in the crash during a training exercise Friday, officials said, leaving a smoking wreck

'It's a total loss,' the official said.

The Beaufort County Sheriff's Office said the crash was reported about 11:45 a.m. Friday near the Grays Hill community.

The pilot is being checked for injuries. No one on the ground was hurt.

A military official says the plane is a Marine F-35B fighter jet, capable of short takeoffs and vertical landings, on a routine training mission.

The crash comes just one day after the US military first used the F-35, which has been beset with delays and cost overruns, in combat. Multiple Marine Corps F-35s struck Taliban targets in Afghanistan.

Launched in the early 1990s, the F-35 program is considered the most expensive weapons system in US history, with an estimated cost of some $400 billion and a goal to produce 2,500 aircraft in the coming years.

Osun Election: PDP attacks Buhari for celebrating ‘stolen mandate’

The Peoples Democratic Party on Friday said that it was wrong for President Muhammadu Buhari to have congratulated the All Progressives Congress candidate in the Osun State governorship election, Adegboyega Oyetola.

It said that the President by the action, had shown that the Presidency was behind the alleged electoral manipulations, outright rigging and bloodletting that the PDP said marred the process.

In a statement in Abuja on Friday, the PDP said it was sad that Buhari chose to ignore the observations of both local and international observers who he said monitored the rerun.

“Nothing can be more reprehensive; while the entire world is condemning the process and the blood of the innocent that were maimed by the APC thugs is yet to dry on the streets of Osun State, the Presidency and the APC are busy celebrating a stolen mandate,” the party said.

This came just as civil rights groups and chieftains of the PDP, including the President of the Senate, Dr. Bukola Saraki and ex-Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, berated the Independent National Electoral Commission and the Buhari-led administration over the conduct of the Osun State governorship election.

Osun poll, a demonstration of tyranny – Atiku

Atiku, in a statement on Friday, described the declaration of the candidate of the APC in the election, Alhaji Gboyega Oyetola, as the winner as triumph of tyranny.

He said the announcement did not tally with what happened in the state on Saturday, September 22, and Thursday when the rerun in seven polling units was held.

According to him, the PDP candidate in the election, Senator Ademola Adeleke, won the poll.

The former Vice-President stated, “The result just declared today (Friday) in Osun by the INEC in favour of the APC and its candidate is a travesty of justice. That was not democracy. That was a demonstration of tyranny.

“The victory of the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Senator Ademola Adeleke, was firmly established last week on Saturday the 22nd of September, 2018.

“This so-called victory of the APC is not a democratic victory. Observers, both foreign and domestic, reported the brazen intimidation of voters and outright suppression of voting in the PDP strongholds with even the PDP agents physically prevented from being at the polling units.”

It is an embarrassment to Nigeria’s democracy –Saraki

On his part, Saraki said the supplementary election was a charade and an embarrassment to Nigeria’s democracy.

In a statement on Friday in Abuja by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Yusuph Olaniyonu, Saraki stated that the rerun was not needed in the first instance while the supplementary poll was unfair.

The statement read, “Yesterday (Friday), we witnessed another display of the subversion of the will of the Osun people during the rerun gubernatorial election in the state. The election was characterised by widespread voter intimidation, violence and harassment. Accredited observers were denied access to polling units and duly registered voters were prevented from participating in the electoral process by thugs and compromised security agents.

“Like I said a few days ago, this needless rerun election was only designed as an avenue for the ruling party to perpetrate electoral fraud. The nature of this election is an embarrassment to our democracy and casts an alarming pall on the institutions responsible for protecting the will of the Nigerian people as stated through their votes. That was why for more than 10 hours, INEC could not collate and announce results in just seven polling units with just over 2,000 votes.”

PDP calls for Yakubu’s resignation

Meanwhile, the National Executive Committee of the PDP called for the resignation of the Chairman of INEC, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu.

The National Publicity Secretary of the party, Mr. Kola Ologbondiyan, stated this while briefing journalists after the NEC meeting on Thursday.

The party accused the Yakubu-led INEC of connivance and manipulations of the electoral process in Thursday’s governorship rerun in Osun State.

The PDP spokesman said, “NEC warned against allowing the current INEC leadership under Prof. Mahmood Yakubu to continue in office as it has shown it cannot conduct a free, fair and credible election at any level.”

INEC declines comment

However, INEC refused to make any comment on the PDP allegations on Friday. Mr Rotimi Oyekanmi, the Chief Press Secretary to the INEC Chairman, declined to speak on the matter.

A top source in the commission, however, said, “This is the fifth or sixth time that the PDP would make such call for the chairman’s resignation and all is because of the elections that they have lost. In a democracy, when you are the loser, it is easy to make noise.”

Osun election: IGP Idris reacts to ‘arrest, harassment of observers, voters, journalists’ by police

The Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris on Friday refuted claims that security agencies harassed and arrested election observers and journalists in the just concluded governorship election in Osun State.

Idris insisted that no election observer and journalists were arrested by his men during the just concluded election.

In a statement issued by the Force spokesperson, Jimoh Moshood, Idris also commended men of the Force for their professionalism during the election.

The statement reads, “The Inspector General of Police, IGP Ibrahim K. Idris, NPM, mni has expressed utmost satisfaction with the implementation of the Robust Security Arrangement for the Osun State Gubernatorial Election and commends the Deputy Inspector General of Police, Department of Operations, the entire Police Personnel, Officers and Men of other Security and Safety Agencies under the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES) deployed for Election Security during the just concluded Osun State Gubernatorial Election on Saturday, 22nd September, 2018, and the Re-run election of Thursday, 27th September, 2018.

“The IGP appreciates the commitment and civility of the entire security personnel in ensuring adequate security and conducive environment for a credible Gubernatorial Election in Osun State.

“The IGP further extols the high-level professionalism, politeness, firmness and unbiased conducts of the Police Personnel, before, during and after the election. The Nigeria Police Force equally appreciates the law-abiding attitude and peaceful conduct of the good people of Osun State, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Election Monitors/Observers, Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), the Media and other critical stakeholders for a good working relationship with the security personnel deployed for the election. The good disposition and spirit of sportsmanship exhibited by most of the political parties in the election which doused fear and tensions during the election is gratifying and highly commendable.

“As a lead security agency in election security in a democracy, the IGP further commends the entire security personnel deployed for the election for their personal sacrifice, collective patriotism and commitment in ensuring that the election was conducted in an atmosphere of peace devoid of any breach of public peace and security throughout the period of the election, the Commissioners of Police and their personnel in the States contiguous to Osun State who were placed on Red Alert by the Inspector General of Police are equally appreciated.

“The impressive performance of the Police personnel to ensure law and order and a successful election is a clear testimony of the capability of the Nigeria Police Force in its renewed commitment to continue to adhere to International Best Practices in the conduct of elections in the country now and in the future.

“It is imperative to state that, there was no any Election Observer, Journalist or Electorate arrested, detained or prevented from carrying out their statutory civic responsibilities/duties during the period of the Election. There were also no official complaints of violence or injury to persons reported by any individual(s)/group at any Police Station/Division in all the Seven (7) Units where the re-run election were held on 27th September 2018, however, any member of the public with any complain now should do so at the nearest Police Station for immediate investigation.

“Members of the public are hereby implored to disregard and discountenance claims in some certain sections of the media that the security agencies intimidate Journalists, Election Observers and voters during the re-run election as untrue, unfounded and entirely hear-say.

“The Nigeria Police Force will continue to sustain and improve on the election security successes recorded in the Gubernatorial Elections in Edo, Ondo, Anambra, Ekiti States and the just concluded Gubernatorial Election in Osun State as an index for the conduct of subsequent elections in the Country.”

Osun election: East to boycott 2019 presidential elections

The Eastern Consultative Assembly, ECA, has condemned what it described as the brazen rigging of the governorship election in Osun State, saying that the region will not vote in the 2019 presidential election as the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, has made it impossible for people’s vote to count.

This was contained in a statement jointly signed by the Deputy Leader of ECA and the Secretary, Evangelist Elliot Ugochukwu-Uko, after a meeting of the group in Enugu, yesterday.

The statement read, “The horror of the brazenly manipulated Osun rerun elections confirms the fears of all and sundry, that this inept government, will never allow a free, fair and credible presidential elections next year.

“The daylight robbery in Edo plus the brutal show of force in Ekiti, both warned the world of what to expect in 2019.

“The macabre dance of shame in Osun, has removed whatever doubts remaining in our minds, that 2019 elections will be sham elections.

“The ruthless use of security forces to oppress and intimidate supporters of the opposition, the clear employment of the army, the police, the Department of State Services, DSS, and other government security agencies in open aid of the ruling party, plus the subtle endorsement of vote-buying, all, have made it impossible for us to have confidence in the electoral process as managed by the present arrogant government.

“Accordingly, we find it difficult to cue in the hot sun to cast our votes, only for a vicious cabal with a born-to-rule mentality,to ensure our votes do not count.

‘Therefore, we are shouting it out loud, we will boycott the presidential elections. Our people desirous of voting in local elections (governorship and state assembly) may vote, if they so wish. But we will boycott presidential elections in order to allow General Buhari rule his Nigeria with iron fist until he is 130 years old.

“Now we know why all military and security agencies are deliberately placed in control of one particular region, now we know why the 97%/5% policy of the central government is implemented with single mindedness.

“Because decision has already been taken, that votes will not count, even INEC has also been placed under total control of the ruling party. Why would any sensible person, bother to go out to vote.

“The confidence of the people in the electoral process, has been completely destroyed by the armed robbery that was Osun Rerun election.

The fact that the perpetrators of this heist, are boastful about it, confirms that we are in big trouble as a country.

“Going through the brigandage and pillage of the former ruling party, only to fall into the hands of this ruthless and vicious cabal, is a costly mistake.

We hereby apologise to the IPOB, who saw clearly, earlier than anybody, that this inept government do not have the intention to ever conduct fair and credible elections.”

2019: "SDP will accommodate Ambode if denied APC’s ticket"

Dr Adetokunbo Pearse, Chairman, Strategy and Mobilisation, Social Democratic Party (SP), South-West Zone, on Friday said that the party would accommodate Gov. Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos State in 2019 election.

Pearse, a University teacher, told newsmen  in Lagos that Ambode would be welcome to fly SDP’s ticket if his (Ambode) party, All Progressives Congress (APC) denied him second term ticket.

NAN reports that Ambode’s second term ticket has been facing some opposition within his party following speculations that he has fallen out of favour with his political godfather, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.

Tinubu is said to be currently rooting for a former commissioner in the state, Mr Jide Sanwo-Olu, who has already declared his intention to contest the governorship on the platform of the APC party, where Ambode also belongs.

Analysts view the development as a trying political season for Ambode, who has since announced his readiness for the party’s direct primary on Sept. 30 to slug it out with his opponents.

Sanwo-Olu, the Managing Director, Lagos State Development and Property Corporation, and Femi Hamzat, a former Commissioner for Works, are in the race for the APC’s governorship ticket.

Pearse said: “I have to tell you the truth that our national leaders have asked us in Lagos to reach out to Ambode and to let him know that we will be ready to accommodate him in our party if he so chooses.

“The reason being that Ambode has not performed excellently but we think, he should have an opportunity for second term to complete some of the works he has started.

“More importantly, we see Ambode as a man who seems to be standing up to greed. That’s they reason why we feel Ambode should be given an opportunity.

“They are fighting him because he has not agreed to sell Lagos totally. So, we will welcome him if he comes.”

The SDP’s chieftain, however, said that whether Ambode came or not, the 2019 general elections were going to be the end of the ruling APC in Lagos.

He said that the National Leader of APC and former governor of the state, Sen. Bola Tinubu had made a big mistake by allegedly bringing somebody that is totally unknown.

“They can win the primary (against Ambode) but let it come to the general elections, people will show that this state does not belong to them”.

On SDP’s alliance with some other opposition parties ahead of 2019 elections, Pearse said that the alliance at the national level still subsists and would be used to oust the APC in the state.

He said: “We understand that it might be difficult to oust the incumbent that has been there for years. We need an alliance and that alliance by the grace of God will come into being.

“With that alliance we are sure to win 2019 elections for the people and to retire APC in the state.”

On the outcome of Osun poll, Pearse said that the alleged flaws that characterised the election and runoff had shown that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) was not prepared for 2019 elections.

“INEC is not prepared for 2019 general elections with the conduct of Osun gubernatorial election. INEC is not independent at all and cannot conduct a fair, credible and acceptable elections.

“The reason being that, once the President of the country is the person who appoints the Chairman of INEC, the INEC is already compromised.

“Looking at the decision of INEC on Osun gubernatorial election, do you think if APC had been the party that won with 353 votes in Osun, they would not have declared the party’s candidate as that winner?

“So, INEC must be trustworthy, incorruptible and fair. People must stand firm to ensure that INEC is uncompromising.”
