15,000 youths to welcome President Buhari from vacation

The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), says it has mobilised no fewer than 15,000 Nigerian youths to welcome President Muhammadu Buhari at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport Abuja, from vacation.
The President proceeded on a 10-day vacation in London on Jan. 23 and is expected to return to Nigeria on Feb. 6, 2017.

Malam Gambo Jagindi, Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the President of NYCN, Murtala Gamji, made the disclosure in a statement made available to newsmen on Friday in Abuja. J

agindi said that time had come for Nigerian youths, who are the future leaders of the country to show
love, solidarity and support for the President, who is their current leader.

“ The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) has concluded arrangements to mobilise not less than 15,000 of its members to be at Abuja airport on Feb. 6, to welcome President Buhari from vacation.

It is on record that integrity, discipline and honesty are gradually returning to our public life unlike in the past when impunity was the order of the day,’’ the spokesman said.

He berated those spreading rumours of death about the President. He said:

“we all know that they do not have the interest of our country at heart and are only wishing to carry on with the looting of our treasury in the absence of our president.’’

Jagindi said that Buhari’s assignment for Nigeria was not yet over, adding that only God could determine who lived or died. He commended the president’s efforts to rid the country of what he termed, “undesirable elements’’ who did not mean well for Nigeria and Nigerians.

He urged Buhari to continue with the good work as the youths of Nigeria were solidly behind him. He noted that in spite of the “corrupt mafias’’ working to undermine the anti-corruption war, Nigerian youths under NYCN would continue to support Buhari’s laudable programmes.

Nigerian man who lured and scammed American women online is sentenced to 27 years in prison.

A Nigerian man who scammed hundreds of lonely U.S. women online was on Thursday, February 2, sentenced to 27 years in federal prison and ordered to repay $1.7 million, by U.S. District Judge David Herndon. Olayinka Ilumsa Sunmola bilked dozens of women in Missouri and Illinois alone, driving some to bankruptcy and at least one to the brink of suicide, prosecutors said.
Sunmola and others would pretend to be members of the U.S. military stationed overseas or businessmen working there, some of whom were widowers with children.

They used pictures of men in uniform they found online, sometimes lifting pictures of dead servicemen from memorial websites.

They wooed their "soul mates" via emails, instant messages, flowers, candy and other gifts. Some of the women bought wedding gowns or began to use the fake last names that Sunmola and the others were using. The scammers then began to concoct emergencies that grew ever larger until their victims' assets were gone, prosecutors said.

One Bond County, Ill. woman bankrupted herself buying electronics and shipping them to Sunmola, re-shipping things he bought using stolen credit card numbers and taking out cash advances on a credit card.

A woman identified in court last year only as Jane Doe No. 6 was a recently divorced single mother when she met Sunmola, who was claiming to be a U.S. Army major. She is also partially disabled and a survivor of an abusive relationship.

Sunmola's victims didn't know that credit cards and checks he sent to them were bogus, and that the electronic items were fraudulently purchased. Sometimes victims would be tricked a second time, when contacted by fake foreign “investigators” who demanded thousands of dollars in customs payments to send back items they claimed to have seized. Sunmola persuaded some victims to send sexually explicit photos or videos, then used them for blackmail. In one case, Sunmola shared the pictures with a victim's relatives even after she paid him, prosecutors said.

While "systematically destroying" the women, Sunmola used their money for lavish parties, two Range Rovers, four properties in South Africa and a $363,000 home in Nigeria, prosecutors said. After two days of a jury trial in U.S. District Court in East St. Louis in March, Sunmola pleaded guilty to eight felonies, including mail fraud, wire fraud, conspiracy, and interstate extortion.

Sunmola was arrested in 2014 as he was preparing to board a British Airlines flight from Heathrow Airport to Johannesburg. The U.S. attorney’s office in Southern Illinois worked with the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, Homeland Security Investigations, the U.S. Secret Service and the Illinois attorney general’s office, which referred the case to prosecutors.

CNN Mistakes Faith Hill For Faith Evans

CNN mistook Faith Hill for Faith Evans in an embarrassing Twitter screw-up on Friday. See screen grab above...

The outlet published online a story about Evans announcing she is releasing a new album featuring unreleased music from the Notorious B.I.G., her late husband who was infamously murdered nearly 20 years ago. While the article on the CNN website was accurate, its tweet promoting it was not. Along with a split photo of Evans and Biggie, it was said, “Faith Hill is releasing an album of duets with The Notorious B.I.G, 20 years after his murder.”

Though also a singer, Faith Hill, of course, is an entirely person from Faith Evans. CNN quickly realized its mistake, and sent a new tweet 11 minutes later. The follow-up message stated, “Correction: Faith *Evans is releasing an album of duets with The Notorious B.I.G, 20 years after his murder.”

Still, the mix-up led “Faith Hill” to become a trending topic on Twitter as fans of all three artists discussed the gaffe. @revconnorgwin, for instance, posted, “1. That’s not Faith Hill, that is Faith Evans… 2. Can you imagine an album of Faith Hill/Biggie duets????” @Izzy_ohsopretty guessed, “Faith Hill at home confused as f*ck right now.”

“JFC, that is Faith Evans. Faith Hill is blonde and married to Tim McGraw,” tweeted @hboulware. And @LongLiveRaj even said, “Smh. Hidden Fences. Faith Hill. We are now in the David Trump era of disregard.” The Twitter user was referring to the “Hidden Fences” Golden Globes controversy that erupted when Jenna Bush Hager, among others, mistakenly confused Hidden Figures with Fences. Check out a screengrab of CNN’s tweets below.

Man with machete shouting "Allahu akbar" attacks soldier in Paris

A man has attempted to attack a French soldier with a machete near Paris' famed Le Louvre art gallery.
The interior ministry said the "attempted assassination" was being treated as a terror attack, amid the country's continuing state of emergency.

The soldier opened fire in self defence near the Carrousel du Louvre shopping centre at around 10am local time (9am GMT), police said.

Michel Cadot, the head of Paris police, said the man was shouting "Allahu akbar" and injured the soldier's scalp.
The shot the attacker five times in self defence, hitting the man in the stomach, Mr Cadot added.

He was seriously injured in the incident at around 10am local time (9am GMT) and is being given medical treatment.

Bomb squads were deployed to check the area for safety but found no explosives in two backpacks the attacker was carrying.

The Paris public prosecutor's office said the incident was being investigated as an "attempted assassination connected with a terrorist enterprise and association with terrorist criminals".
A spokesperson for the French interior ministry said a "serious public security incident" was underway, saying security forces were at the scene.

The ministry urged people not to spread "false information" and to follow authorities' instructions.

An American tourist visiting Le Louvre described how sirens sounded before emergency escape doors lifted from the ground.

“Four armed guards then sprinted around the grounds outside of the pyramid entrance looking for something,” he wrote on Twitter.

Hundreds of people were evacuated from Le Louvre art gallery, Carrousel du Loure shopping centre and surrounding gardens.

It came following a series of Isis-inspired terror attacks in France, with the group calling on its followers to attack "infidels" and members of the security services.

The group killed 130 people in a series of shootings and bombings in November 2015, and its followers have killed shoppers at a Kosher supermarket, a police officer and his wife and a Catholic priest.

Tuface’s protest: Even if an Angel comes to rule Nigeria, people will still complain – Presidency

The Special Adviser to President Muhammadu Buhari on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina has said that even if an angel comes to rule Nigeria, people will still complain.

The President’s aide has equally accused those who lost in the 2015 general elections and corrupt politicians as the brain behind the proposed anti-Buhari protest slated to hold on Monday, February 6th.

Adesina who spoke in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital Friday morning at a BCOS “AM 120” magazine program monitored by newsmen informed that those who believed in free money while in government will also join the protest.

Innocent Idibia, fondly known as 2Face has concluded arrangements to mobilise Nigerians in a protest to kick against the inability of the present government to find solution to the plight of teeming Nigerians who are going through serious economic hardship occasioned by high inflation, shortage of food and other social problems.

The protest which is titled “Occupy Nigeria” according to reports will take place simultaneously in major cities of Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt, Kano.

Reports also indicated that some activists in Ibadan have indicated interest to join the Monday protest.

It will be recalled that the Commissioner of Police in Lagos State, Mr. Fatai Owoseni has refused to grant 2Face the permission to stage the protest in his State.

But Mr. Adesina, while answering questions from the anchors informed that Nigerians have right to protest but the police also have the right to deny them the permit so as to avoid crises.

He said that those planning the protest were people who will always complain even, “if the angels come to rule”.

“In a democracy, protests are legitimate, also the security agencies have the right to ensure that they do not degenerate.

“The president is not home now, in Nigeria today you have a large number of people who seem not to forget that the 2015 elections have gone and have been won. The other group is the group that will always complain, even if angels come to rule Nigeria, they will always complain, they will complain.

“Then you have people who believe in free money, there is no more free money, those people will also join the protest.

“Genuine concern people have ways to protest, there are millions of people who are with the president, and I believed that the people who are with the president are more than those who are not with the president.

“If the concerns were genuine, once those who speak with the president once they said all is well, they should have to go and rest”

“When he returns to the country, will the rumour continue?”

He said the presence of social media which has been a tool for social mobilisation has been abused by many Nigerians.

“It depends on the way social media is being used. Social Media is a tool for social mobilisation when used in good ways. Some people are using social media for malice.

“You must tell yourself I am going to be responsible, if they want to make legislation on social media now, people will say that it is tyranny.

“Change is both tangible and intangible, there are many ways that change is manifesting both tangible and intangible. There is less impunity now. So, you have intangible change, yes people are going through economic crises but yet things will turn around. We will exit recession this year, the world bank has said it, the government has said it.

“What people expect is that President Muhammadu Buhari will change things overnight, but the administration has a mandate of forty eight months, change is manifesting and it will continue gradually.

Mr. Adesina said antagonism, malice and hatred are not the best options but the people should continue to cooperate with the government.

“Antagonism, hatred and malice are not an option for Nigerians to keep government on its toes, but good will, patience and cooperation with the government is the best option.

“What the people need is to cooperate with the government. Nigeria over decades turned itself into a mono-economy, look at the country that is earning 3.5 billion dollars, but now it has reduced to about 190, what is happening in Venezuela is very hard, we don’t pray such thing will happened in Nigeria, things is gradually changing”.

Mr. Adesina said the problems facing the country did not come overnight but gradually and will fade gradually.

“The problem of Nigeria is a cumulative problem, all the refineries are down, but now the three refineries are working, so the problems did not start today, what Nigerians need to do is to encourage the government.

Speaking on the backlog of salaries many states are owing their workers, Adesina posited that the only thing the federal government can do is to bail the state out but cannot intervene on the payment.

“In a federalism, that is the only thing the federal government can do is to bail the states out, but the federal government cannot go to those states and pay the workers, the federal workers are being paid, the government has said the no worker should lose his job because they are not the ones that led us to the economic crises.

“The problem is a human problem, when the Israelites were passing through hardship. They cry but they later forgot when those problems passed away, so it is a human problem”.

He asked people to support the anti-corruption war of the President so that it will manifest as expected.

“Unless the whole populace own the anti-corruption war, it will be a Buhari thing. There is heavy corruption in Nigeria, when they asked the president he said it was true, he always speaks his mind”.

On the rescue of Chibok girls, Adesina said there is still hope that the remaining girls will soon be rescued. If you want to be honest with Nigerian government you will know that the level is not the same as it was in the past. What is going on is mopping up process.

“A president should always engage his citizens, we will talk with him for another presidential media chat.

“What Nigerians need to do is to understand is that they can not hand over a template on how they want to relate with the president, the president has the right to hand over the template on how he want to relate with them. If they have issues, let them speak up. Well you know that there are certain things that are off limit like the age of the president, I don’t talk about his family. Presidential media chat is just one of the many ways the president can speak with Nigerians.

“My message is that Nigerians have a leadership they can true, a leadership that is people focus, people need to give them time, at the end of this administration people will be happy that they voted for him. I go to the market, I know how much things are going”. Adesina maintained.
