UCLA Health System Reports Cyberattack, 4. 5 Million Patients Likely To Be Affected.

The UCLA Health System said Friday that it has been the victim of a criminal cyberattack possibly affecting 4.5 million patients.

The attackers accessed a computer network that contains personal and medical information, but UCLA Health said there was no evidence that any such data was taken.

UCLA Health said it was working with FBI investigators and had hired private computer forensic experts to secure network servers.

“We take this attack on our systems extremely seriously,” said Dr. James Atkinson, interim associate vice chancellor and president of the UCLA Hospital System.

In an interview, Atkinson said the hospital saw unusual activity in one of its computer servers in October. An investigation confirmed in May that the hackers had gained access to patient information.

"They are a highly sophisticated group likely to be offshore," he said. "We really don't know. It's an ongoing investigation."

Federal officials investigate breaches of patient privacy and they can levy significant fines for violations.

Breaches of patient records have been a recurring problem for hospitals in California and across the country.

The UCLA Health System found itself at the center of a scandal in 2008 involving workers who snooped into the medical records of Britney Spears, Farrah Fawcett and Maria Shriver, among others.

One former employee was convicted of selling celebrity medical information to the National Enquirer. UCLA agreed to pay $865,500 as part of a settlement with federal regulators.

The federal Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 protects the privacy of individual medical records. It bans, in most cases, the release of patient records without their consent and sets penalties for any unauthorized release.

BSU SUG President Denies Accusing Gov Samuel Ortom Of Sending Thugs To Beat Him Up.

The Students Union President of Benue State University, Mr Bobby Tavershima has denied media reports that he said the Governor ordered an attack on him.

The SU President had told BENUE.COM.NG that he was attacked was by some student leaders who claimed to be acting on the instructions of the governor but he said the incident was blown out of proportion by the media.

” Please don’t quote me wrong, I did not say the governor sent people to beat me.”

He explained that those who attacked him were aggrieved student leaders who thought that he was using protest to get money from government without sharing with then, an allegations he denied.

” they think I’m getting money from protest but I have not collected a kobo from anybody. Nobody has given me anything since this strike started” He said.

Mr Bobby said what happened was a part of local school politics which he promised to deal with internally as the President. He also said the university management was on the case and warned that nobody should pit against the government.
“The government is working and paying salary. Students will soon resume so please nobody use me to fight a peace-loving governor like Ortom.”

Meanwhile, sources close to the Benue State Governor, Dr Samuel Ortom have revealed that the Governor had nothing to do with the attack on the Benue State University Students Union President, Mr Bobby Tavershima.

“The Governor is not happy about the incident and is looking into it. Ortom is a god fearing man. It is the work of mischief makers who want to drag the Governor’s name in mud”, Our source who pleaded anonymity said.

Zimbabwean Prophet Allegedly Open Girl's Private Part With Holy Oil.

Popular and controversial man of God in Harare, Zimbabwe, Prophet Walter Magaya, has stirred another round of storm when a statement from his church claim his ‘holy oil’ managed to open a young girl’s vagina that has been closed since her birth, reports My Zimbabwe.

The girl’s grand mother who spoke to the online paper, said doctors had told her that there was nothing they could do about the sealed private part but that Prophet Magaya’s anointing oil was all that was needed to work the miracle.

Magaya’s church said in a statement:

“Mai Chinyoka’s grandchild had no vaginal opening since birth and they sought medical help upon which they were told that it was completely closed up.

On the 15th of May 2015, her mother brought her to church and by the special grace of God she had an encounter with the Servant of God Prophet W. Magaya who blessed her with the anointing oil and instructed her to administer on her child.

She did exactly that and by the special grace of God, the vagina has since opened up.

They took her back to the doctor who was shocked to date as they had told them that their child could not be assisted in any way.

She had to live with no vaginal opening for the rest of her life but God the specialist of impossibilities turned it all around. We give God all the glory.”

Gunmen Kill Family Of 4 In Katsina Ala, Benue State.

Unidentified gun men yesterday killed four members of the family of one Ternongo Ajai of Gbengen community of Katsina/Ala local government area ofBenue state in their home

A source from Katsina Ala told Daily Times that the gunmen stormed the homes of the deceased on a motorbike at about 8pm and open fire killing all the family members.

The source narrated that on hearing the gunshots, the people of the community, dashed to the scene of the killing with the intent to apprehend the armed men, and also rush the victims to the hospital, but they could not do much because the victims were all cold dead and gang escaped on their bike, pretending to be chasing the murderer

When contacted, the Benue stateCommissioner of Police, Mr. Hyacinth Dagala confirmed the brutal killing of the trio, saying further that the matter was being investigated.
Dagala who said the State Police Command and other sister security agencies were working together to ensure that Benue remain one of the safest in the country, urged the people to avail the Police information that could facilitate the arrest of criminals in their neighbourhood.
