Benue Voters Accuse INEC Ad Hoc Staff Of Demanding N50 From Them Before Registeration.

Eligable voters from Benue have accused Inec Ad hoc staff of  extortion by collecting N50 from them before they are registered. This and more criticisms have continued to trail the just concluded voters registration exercise in Makurdi Benue State

The exercise ended 2 days ago as eligible voters scrambled to be registered. INEC adhoc staff capitalized on that to extort money from the voters. It was learnt that some registrants at the Fiidi polling unit in Makurdi alleged that they were asked to pay the fee but they resisted while others paid in order to get registered before the close of the exercise.

Ngodoo Orban, Umeyi and Rachael Orban all complained that Youth Corps members who worked as adhoc staff collected the said amount from them in order to buy fuel to charge the Direct Data Capture Machines, DDC. According to one Mr. Innocent, the decision to collect the money was a unanimous one taken by members of the community to avoid the exercise being marred.

Reacting to the issue, an INEC officer in Makurdi Local Government Area, Mr. Abu Ofene, condemned the act and cautioned youths corps members against collecting money from the people. Ofene later gave money to the adhoc staff to purchase fuel and implored the people not to panic as registration will continue at the local government headquarters. Also commenting on the allegation, INEC Public Relations Officer, Mr. Louis Ochai, condemned the act as illegal.

In another vein, there were complaints of non presence of INEC officers in Kanshio, a suburb in Makurdi, even as allegations that some politicians hijacked the DDC machines and diverted the to their homes. “Some politicians are using this registration to get support for their political ambition.

Most of them in collaboration with INEC diverted the machines and are registering their supporters in their houses. In other cases, areas seen as strong opposition polling units, were deliberately left out. This is undemocratic”, Mr. Afatyo Msen, a resident of Kanshio lamented.

Nigeria Army Today Seized 3 Nigerian Newspaper Distribution Vans With Current Editions.

Three Nigerian newspapers said the army seized parts of their Friday print-runs and stopped distribution vans across the country, with one accusing the military of a rare crackdown on the media.

The Ministry of Defence said soldiers had searched a number of vehicles for unspecified sensitive material that it had heard was being transported with the
newsprint, but insisted it had no intention of stopping the newspapers themselves.

The Punch, a widely-read daily, reported on its website that distribution of its edition and other newspapers had been disrupted at Lagos airport and other hubs in moves "reminiscent of military dictatorship in the country". Staff from The Nation and Leadership papers told Reuters some of their vans had also been halted without explanation. Nigeria came out of years of military dictatorship in 1999 and is now widely-admired for its outspoken free press, with columnists and cartoonists regularly lambasting leading figures including President Goodluck Jonathan himself.

The army has faced particularly harsh criticism for its handling of a mounting Islamist insurgency in the northeast and its efforts to free more than 200 schoolgirls abducted by Boko Haram militants. Earlier this week the Defence Ministry issued a statement denying local media reports that some of its senior officers had been court-martialed on charges of backing the rebels.

Defence headquarters said the newspaper searches "followed intelligence report indicating movement of materials with grave security implications across the country using the channel of newsprint-related consignments," without going into further details. The newspapers said on Friday they had been given no explanation for the stoppages.

The Nation's edition led on suggestions from an unnamed source that the government might be ready to free detained insurgents in exchange for the adducted girls.

US Finally Stops The Importation Of Crude Oil From Nigeria,Nigeria Is Looking For New Markets Now.

FOLLOWING the discovery of Shale oil and gas in commercial quantity, the United States (U.S.) has finally stopped the importation of crude oil from Nigeria.

The Minister of Petroleum Resources, Mrs. Diezani Alison-Madueke, who disclosed this in Abuja Wednesday, added that Nigeria had begun a search for alternative markets.   At an interactive enlightenment workshop on  the Petroleum Industry Bill (PIB), the  Group Executive Director ( GED), Corporate Strategy and Planning, Dr. Timothy Okon, on behalf of the minister  urged the country to adopt sustainable economic policies following the changes in global economy.

According to her, the prevailing global economic arena demands adaptation of  policies .   Her words: “The global economy is changing and Nigeria must adopt  a  sustainable economic strategy. I know many of you must have  heard  about the Shale gas and the Shale oil revolution. This has knocked out Nigeria from the export to the USA. So Nigeria must adopt. We must change our ways and policies that we may hold dear which may cause us economic stress in the future.

So this market there called the Shale oil and gas has resulted in Nigeria seeking new markets for its oil.”  The minister called for competitiveness in the sector, noting that there was the need for new policies to strengthen the industry.  She stressed the importance of natural resources in economic transformation, urging that it was important to diversify the  economy .   Alison-Madueke again reiterated her call for the urgent passage of the PIB, saying,  “the country expects to attain a vibrant economy due to initiatives such as gas price reform, gas commercialisation , gas infrastructure framework and other policies that are enshrined in the bill.”  She explained that the passage of the PIB would herald much job creation by restoring Nigeria’s industrial capacity.   The minister hinted that the gains  from  transformation agenda of the  administration had already been demonstrated from the privatisation of the power sector.

She maintained that the country was looking forward to accessing investments in the power sector following its liberalisation.    In his speech, the Chairman, House Committee on Petroleum (Downstream), Dakuku Peterside,  said  the operators in the sector were expected to stop gas flaring three years after the passage of the bill.  He noted that the bill must stop pollution and emission from gas flaring when it takes effect.   According to him ,   the bill which has passed the second reading in both chambers of the National Assembly, is delayed partly because the lawmakers insist on doing a thorough job  since the sector is critical to the survival of the country.   Peterside urged the labour movement to support the National Assembly to realise the passage of the   bill.   A Vice President of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Issa Aremu, who chaired the occasion advised the National Assembly not to wait for the congress to picket it before passing the PIB into law. He described the PIB as one of the progressive laws that this democracy could give the citizenry.  To Aremu,  if the bill becomes a law, it could culminate in the creation of 19 fresh companies from the unbundling of the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC).  He noted that since the bill provides for local content, different sectors would engage Nigerians from different professional backgrounds.  In his submission, the Chairman,  Nigeria Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (NEITI), Mr. Lidum Mittee,  recommended that there should be a clear definition of community in the bill before its passage into law.  He also urged the Federal Government to remit fund collected as  penalties  from gas flaring to the communities that suffer the environmental pollution.

Because we are presently in a rot garbage and a smelling dustbin and our people have suffocated enough.”He also vowed that whosoever will emerge candidate on the platform of APC will defeat Governor Mukhtar Ramalan Yero with landslide victory saying, “Defeating those running government of Kaduna state now is as easy as ABC. Because the state is decaying, what remained is just picking the state from the mess. Majority of the people are not happy with this inept government and they will push them out.“Nothing is left of the PDP in Kaduna state but packages of lies; some people are just discovering and waiting for the time. People there knew the truth; there will be no space for any manipulation or upturning people’s destiny. We are up and doing and up to the task”, he said.He clarified that there was no crisis in APC, “There is no crisis in APC. Have you ever seen power struggle without those involved conflicting for power control. There are huge paper tigers who will always want everything. It is the people that are deciding what they want and if anyone has a complaint, let it be with the people at the grass root who are deciding our fate.

R.Kelly's Daughter Is Transguy And Wants A Sex Change.

R.Kelly’s daughter Jaya identifies as a “transguy” on her social media page. A transguy is a biological girl who is transitioning into life as a boy. Jaya, who calls herself Jay, dresses in boys clothing and emulates the testosterone fueled behavior of boys in her peer group. Jay’s mom, reality TV personality Andrea Kelly (Hollywood Exes), seems to be accepting of her daughter’s condition.

We don’t know how dad R. Kelly feels since he is not a constant presence in his daughter’s life. The teenager follows in the footsteps of other celebrity kids who suffer from gender disorders, such as Cher’s daughter Chaz Bono, 45, a transgender male who now dates a cross dressing man.

If Jay plans to undergo a sex change she will have a difficult time finding a doctor willing to perform the surgery. In 1979, as chief of psychiatry at the prestigious Johns Hopkins Hospital, Dr. Paul R. McHugh famously shut down the sex gender reassignment clinic at Johns Hopkins hospital. Many hospitals in America quickly followed suit and closed their sex reassignment clinics. Some of the doctors expressed relief at not being “commandeered” to perform the radical surgeries which left the patients with no sexual feelings. In a 2004 article, Dr. McHugh explained his controversial decision. He said he tracked down sex change patients who were contented with their surgery and that only a few regretted it. “But in every other respect,” he wrote, “they were little changed in their psychological condition. They had much the same problems with relationships, work, and emotions as before. The hope that they would emerge now from their emotional difficulties to flourish psychologically had not been fulfilled.” As for the adults who came to us claiming to have discovered their “true” sexual identity and to have heard about sex-change operations, we psychiatrists have been distracted from studying the causes and natures of their mental misdirections by preparing them for surgery and for a life in the other sex. We have wasted scientific and technical resources and damaged our professional credibility by collaborating with madness rather than trying to study, cure, and ultimately prevent it.

Yah!!!! La Toya Jackson Is Engaged.

La Toya Jackson is getting ready to walk the aisle and adopt a daughter that she’ll name Paris…ya know, like her late brother’s daughter.

After months of speculation and rumors, the singer and reality TV star set the record straight in an interview that aired on “Good Morning America,” telling ABC’s Abbie Boudreau: “Yes, I am. I’m engaged. And I’m excited about it. Yes, I’m very much engaged … And it’s wonderful.” Showing Boudreau her 17.5 carat diamond ring, the 57-year-old Jackson said she was engaged to Jeffre Phillips, her longtime business manager. Jackson has been single for nearly 20 years after an abusive marriage. “I felt that I didn’t want to have anything to do with men or that they would control me… But things have changed,” she said. “And now I’m open.” The second season of her reality show, “Living With Latoya,” premieres this week on OWN. In it, a nervous Phillips can be seen asking Joe Jackson, the family patriarch, for his daughter’s hand in marriage. “And my father, mind you, he’s a nice guy, but he’s not the easiest person to talk to,” she said, laughing. Jackson, who was once very private, explained why she decided to do the reality show. “This is something that I feel like the world needs to know this. And when I first starting feeling this way is when, I guess, my brother (Michael Jackson) passed, because the world didn’t really know him the way we knew him … My mother goes, ‘Honey, this is the best thing you can do because people got it all wrong.’ Because they think we’re strange and we’re weird. And we’re just like anybody else,” she said. Jackson and Phillips haven’t set a wedding date yet, but there already is talk of adopting. “I’ve always wanted to be a mother, all my life,” she said. If she adopts a daughter, she could be named Paris, like her late brother’s daughter.

Obama's Mannequin Found Lynched And Hanging With A Rope On The Highway.

A fully clothed mannequin wearing a President Barack Obama mask was discovered hanging by a rope from a highway overpass in the Kansas City area on Monday, police said.

Interstate 70 was closed down briefly while a bomb squad investigated because sheriff’s deputies saw a suspicious device attached to the mannequin, said Sergeant Ronda Montgomery of the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office.

No explosives were found on the mannequin, which was discovered on a bridge about 25 miles (40 km) east of Kansas City, Montgomery said. The mannequin was reported to the authorities around daybreak and it is unclear how long it had been hanging from the structure, she said.

A rope was used to string up the mannequin but authorities were not
releasing specific details, Montgomery said, adding that the incident was still under investigation.

“We are trying to put pieces of the puzzle together, but it’s early,” Montgomery said.

Gunmen Invade And Attack Students Of CAPS In Benue State.

Armed men believed to be robbers yesterday raided the College of Advanced and Professional Studies (CAPS), Benue State, and attacked the students. This came barely two weeks after gunmen robbed and raped female students of the Benue State University, Makurdi.
In yesterday’s attack, about six gunmen invaded the institution about 4:30am and forced their way into the female hostels while the girls were sleeping, apparently to rape them. It was gathered that the gunmen had on arrival at the college, tied and blindfolded the unarmed security men before carrying out the operation.
However, upon hearing the noise of banging on the doors, the students raised the alarm which attracted the attention of their mates in other blocks, who joined them in shouting. This forced the invaders to take to their heels. But before they fled, the robbers had snatched valuable items such as handsets, iPads, laptops, etc.
The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Daniel Ezeala, said no report of such incident had reached him at press time. But the Sole Administrator of the CAPS, Dr Tyotom Keghku, confirmed the attack to journalists. He, however, said two female students, who were injured in the attack, were rushed to a private hospital in Makurdi for treatment, adding that they were discharged later.

Idomas Vow To Boycott 2015 Elections If Not Allowed To Produce The Next Governor Of Benue State.

Ahead of the 2015 election, the Idoma speaking people of Benue State have warned that they may not participate in the guber election if the next governor is not from the place.

The president of Idoma National Forum (INF), Dr Okopi Alex Momoh, stated this at the weekend, in Otukpo, the trado-political seat of Idomaland during the maiden edition of a memorial lecture of the first paramount ruler of Idoma nation, HRH Ogiri Oko, Ochidoma 1, Dr Momoh, who accused the Tiv brothers for using numerical strength to dominate the state’s political space since 1976, warned that the nation might be forced to boycott 2015 governorship election if the it was not considered for the position.

He noted that the state must embrace the concept of balanced governance and create a sense of belonging for everybody as enshrined in the constitution, stressing that other states had embraced the concept. According to him, “some multi-tribal states in the country such as Akwa Ibom and Cross River states are adopting rotation of the governorship position on senatorial basis. “We expect same to happen in Benue State starting from the 2015 governorship election by allowing the Benue South senatorial district to produce the governor of the state in 2015.” “If we do not get the concession on rotation, we will not participate in the governorship election in 2015,” he said.
