"Biafra represents war, blood, and death"- Sam Nda-Isaiah,

FORMER Presidential Aspirant of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Publisher of Leadership Newspapers, Mr Sam Nda-Isaiah, declared on Saturday that Biafra represents war, blood, and death; warning that the ogre of Biafra should not be allowed to resurrect.

Speaking at the National Youth Leadership Conference organised by the Nigeria Solution Group in Abuja, Nda-Isaiah, stated that if someone resurrects the ogre of Biafra, it would be going beyond the pale.

The publisher, who was speaking on “Nigeria’s Unity and Development,” regretted that since independence not much have been made since independence.

Nda-Isaiah said: “The greater wonder is that we have been speaking on this one thing since independence and not much progress appears to have been made. We even fought a bitter civil war to show for it at the very high cost of nearly two million souls.

“One would have thought that by now our unity should be a given. Unfortunately, it is still a subject of very bitter and sometimes, unreasonable debate.

“We can quarrels as siblings of the same family from time to time, that would be okay. That happens everywhere even in the nuclear family. That would not mean we are not united. But if someone resurrects the ogre of Biafra, then that would be going beyond the pale.

“The name Biafra represents war, blood, and death. It also represents the carrying of arms against the Federal Republic of Nigeria and if anyone thinks he can bring Biafra up again after it had been defeated without consequences, then he or she must think Nigeria is a jungle.”

Liking Biafra to Hitler’s Nazi in Germany, he warned that anyone who stands up today in Germany to resurrect it, would not survive it.

Biafra nation, according to him belongs only to our museum and should be consigned to the saddest part of our history.

He said: “The Biafra war has been fought and won. Even Odumegwu Ojukwu himself, the originator of Biafra, came back from exile and was pardoned and even contested to be President of Nigeria. Small minded people should not be allowed to take us back to war and bloodshed simply because they are getting money from it.”

President of Nigeria Solution Group, Ekpa Stanley Ekpa, said the group intended to mobilize the youths from various organization to engage in active participation in politics.

He pointed out that the challenge of youth participation in Nigeria politics is age limitation and the issue of politics, regretting however that many of the youths go into politics because of money.

Lekki Big Boy, Akpaikpe, Nabbed For "Internet Fraud"

The EFCC has arraigned a suspected Internet fraudster, Akpaikpe Etim, before Justice J.E. Oyefeso of the Lagos State High Court sitting in Ikeja, Lagos on an eight-count charge bordering on possession of fraudulent documents and obtaining money by false pretence.
Akpaikpe, 30, who is said to be a member of a syndicate of fraudsters operating in the Lekki area of Lagos, among other alleged offences, obtained the sum of $4,000 USD from a victim in Singapore, after posting a dog for sale on an online platform.

An investigation also revealed that the suspect, who does not have a stable job, had several inflows of money into his account, which he could not satisfactorily account for.
The suspect pleaded not guilty when the charge was read to him.In view of his pleas, the prosecution counsel, Banjo James, asked for a trial date and prayed the court to remand the suspect in prison.
In his response, counsel to the defence, O.V. Adoro, urged the court to grant his client bail. However, the prosecution counsel opposed the bail application.

Consequently, Justice Oyefeso ordered the suspect to be remanded in Kirikiri Prisons and adjourned the case to February 18, 2018, for a hearing of bail application.

Doyin Okupe attacks Fashola over Lagos bridge, says APC members reckless, crooks

Aide to former President Goodluck Jonathan, Doyin Okupe, has described everyone in the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC as reckless and crooked.

Okupe further stated that he was aware that the current President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration was going to destroy the economy, adding that he is not disappointed so far.

In a Facebook post, the former Presidential aide singled out former Lagos State Governor Babatunde Fashola for saying the Lekki-Ikoyi bridge cost Lagos State Government N29 billion.

According to him, “The information below translates thus: The world’s longest bridge cost $36m per kilometre.

“Now ponder this: According to then Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola, the Lekki-Ikoyi bridge cost Lagos State government a whopping ₦29 billion. The bridge is just 1.68km long, meaning it cost about ₦17b per kilometre.

“In dollar terms, that would mean Fashola built Lekki-Ikoyi bridge at the heart-rending cost of $107.68m per km.

“LEKKI-IKOYI BRIDGE, CROSSING A SHALLOW LAGOON, COST MORE THAN 3 TIMES PER KM THAN THE WORLD’S LONGEST BRIDGE, WHICH CROSSES A SEA!
“This is one of the things I saw which made me believe ALL in APC to be reckless or crooked, or both. I knew they would DESTROY the economy, AND THEY DID!”

Lulu-Briggs escapes assassination attempt in Rivers

alt

An oil mogul, Chief O.B Lulu-Briggs, the Regent of Abonnema, on Saturday, escaped assassination attempt at his home town Abonnema, Akuku-Toru Local Government Area of Rivers State.

Lulu-Briggs had visited Abonnema for a peace and reconciliation meeting between chiefs, opinion leaders and elders of the area in respect of the crisis rocking the position of the Chairman of Council of Chiefs of Abonnema.

Chairman of the Council, Chief Disrael Gbobo Bob-Manuel, was last week suspended from the position based on an allegation of witchcraft levelled against him.

Consequently, Lulu-Briggs was appointed in acting capacity to man the position till the controversies raised were resolved.

Based on the development, Lulu-Briggs had visited Abonnema in order to broker peace, but was held by hundreds of youths, who attacked his convoy and damaged several cars including the bullet proof vehicle carrying the High Chief.

Youths numbering over 200 gathered at the community palace took over the scene immediately the convoy arrived and were hauling stones and other weapons on Lulu-Briggs' team, as well shooting.

Speaking, a chief, who witnessed the incident narrated: "Some youths we do not know attempted to kill High Chief Lulu-Briggs when he came to Abonnema for a peace and reconciliation meeting.

"They gathered his car, destroyed car in his convoy, but he was saved because his car is bullet proof. They were shooting guns. We do not know what their annoyance is, but we know they were hired".

However, Chief Lulu-Briggs has sued for peace in Abonnema Kingdom, stating that violence and killings would not resolve the issues surrounding the position of the Chairman of Abonnema Council and development of the area.

The philanthropist, who spoke through Chief Ibim Iyibo Young-Briggs, noted that was need for reconciliation of all the factions in the face-off, expressing regrets over poor infrastructural development in the area.

He added: "I want to call for a dialogue of all concerned to immediately resolve all misunderstanding, acrimonies and for that matter grievances, so that Abonnema will be restored to its characteristics acclamation of 'York City'."

According to Lara who is now married to the love of her life and now uses her past as a drive to inspire other women, when she first made the confession on Facebook years back, some of her followers were shocked but as time went people began understanding her viewpoints and infact, she now gets paid by people who wants to learn from her experience.

Falana hits Malami: Stop the cheap blackmail, I did not buy Mains's property from EFCC

Femi Falana, lawyer and human rights activist, says he never bought a property in Maitama District, Abuja, from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

The property, said to have been recovered by the presidential task force on pension reform, was linked to Abdulrasheed Maina, a former pension boss whose recall into the civil service is being probed.

In a statement on Saturday, Falana referred to a media report which quoted Abubakar Malami, attorney-general of the federation (AGF) and minister of justice, as saying the said property worth N1 billion was allocated to “a Lagos lawyer”.

Malami was said to have made the comment when he appeared before the senate committee probing Maina’s recall into service after he was declared wanted over alleged fraud.

“Hence, I have decided to join issues with Malami over his false claim that the EFCC had sold the property in question to me,” he said, adding that “contrary to Malami’s claim I never bought any property from the EFCC”.

The senior advocate of Nigeria said the house in question was one of the assets used to collaterise a loan obtained from Bank PHB by A Group Properties “over 10 years ago”.

Falana said: “He (Malami) would also have found that the property is a subject matter of a suit which is currently pending before the federal high court sitting at Abuja. (See Suit No /2015 between Assets Management Corporation of Nigeria v A Group Properties Limited).

“The suit was instituted by AMCON due to the failure of the company to liquidate the loan. In granting the ex parte application filed by AMCON in the matter the court ordered an interim forfeiture of the assets of A Group Properties Limited including No 42, Gana Street, Maitama District, Abuja. The said order was granted on November 11, 2015.

“However, in a bid to pay the loan, A Group Properties Limited decided to sell some of the properties. The sale of the property in question to me was made subject to the setting aside of the order of interim forfeiture which had been obtained by AMCON.

“Up till now, the case has not been concluded as the parties have asked for time to resolve the dispute amicably and file terms of settlement. To that extent, the transaction on the property remains inchoate.”

Falana added that although the said order of interim forfeiture was granted in favour of AMCON over two years ago, “Malami has not deemed it fit to disclose to the federal high court that the property at 42, Gana street, Maitama District, Abuja was recovered by the Presidential Task Force on Pension Reforn”.

He said: “Having regard to the facts and circumstances of this case, Maina’s allegation that the management of the EFCC sold the property at No 42, Gana Street, Maitama District, Abuja or any property to me is a figment of his fecund imagination for mischief.”

The lawyer also challenged Malamai to substantiate his allegation that the EFCC had allocated or sold the property in question or any other property to him.
“Instead of engaging in a cheap campaign of blackmail Malami should have taken steps to recover the alleged N1 billion property for the federal government if he is convinced that it is a proceed of crime,” he said.

Nigerian kidnappers shot dead British missionary after he sang Amazing Grace

A British optician kidnapped in Nigeria was murdered after playing ‘Amazing Grace’ on guitar to cheer up his fellow captives.
Ian Squire, 57, was among four Christian missionaries seized by a gang during a raid in the early hours of October 13 in the country’s southern Delta state.
Details of the medical charity worker’s death were initially withheld, but two of the other hostages held alongside Squire have now spoken of their horrifying ordeal.
Speaking to The Telegraph, Shirley and David Donovan explained that Squire was shot to death the day after the four Britons were captured, and just after singing a hymn.

Dr Donovan told the paper how the group’s spirits were lifted when the kidnappers returned a guitar and Mr Squire played ‘Amazing Grace’.

He told the paper: ‘It was the perfect song, and at that point things began to look not quite as bad.

‘But then, after Ian finished playing, he stood up, and a salvo of gunshots killed him instantly.

‘We didn’t see who did it, but it was obvious that someone in the gang had shot him. It was terrifying to see.

‘We jumped out of the shack and into the water as we thought they were coming for us next, but a member of the gang came and put us back in there with Ian for the rest of the day.’

They were held with Ian Squire and Alanna Carson as the four were working as missionary medics in west Africa.

The couple said they do not know why the captors murdered Squire, stressing that the gangsters refused to explain why they did it.

Squire and the other three hostages had been providing ‘free medical care and religious activities’ in the Burutu area of Delta state, said Chief Theo Fakama, from the local Enukorowa community.

The captives were freed after the kidnappers told them a ransom had been paid, and were met by two SUVs, with Mr Donovan saying the smell of the leather and the air conditioning ‘was like stepping from one world into another’.

The British High Commission and Nigerian authorities negotiated their release.

During their kidnapping, the group kept their spirits up by playing a version of BBC Radio 4 quiz The Unbelievable Truth, where contestants have to tell fact from fiction, with Mrs Donovan saying the game was ‘prosaic but comforting’.

They also reported that their captives – cultists whose gang was named after a local warrior god, Egbesu – were often seen drinking and taking drugs.

The Egbesu Boys are still being hunted by the Nigerian government, with their leader – Karowei Gbakumor – on the run.

Fayose & El-Rufai Laugh, Attend Burial Together

Governor Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai and Ekiti state governor, Ayo Fayose were seen discussing and laughing together in Ifaki-Ekiti for the funeral of Mama Comfort Modupe Adetunmbi, mother of Senator Olubunmi Adetunmbi.

Both men had a small 'feud' barely a week ago after Fayose criticized El-rufai's decision to sack over 21,000 teachers in Kaduna. From the photos below, it seems both men have buried the hatchet.

Fayose had earlier attacked El-rufai's method on twitter, pointing out that rather than letting go of the teachers, the Kaduna State Government should visit Ekiti State to learn what they did to improve 26% performance in the West African Examination Council (WAEC) examination in 2014 to 74.86 percent in 2017.

He tweeted that 'It is not the state government’s right to set a test for teachers but that of the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN)'.

Elrufai replied via twitter also, saying; "Your Excellency Sir, We are not sacking teachers in Kaduna. Rather we are replacing unqualified people who are unfit to be called teachers to save the future of the next generation".
