Buhari bans 50 highly placed Nigerians from travelling abroad

President Muhammadu Buhari has placed a ban on 50 very prominent Nigerians suspected of corruption from leaving the country.

This was made known by Garba Shehu, the president’s spokesman, in a statement on Saturday. According to Mr Garba Shehu, this position was taken as part of the enforcement of the recently signed executive order 6 by the president.

These prominent Nigerians affected by the executive order have been placed under watch list and are restricted from leaving Nigeria, until their cases are determined.

Part of the statement reads thus:

“Also, the financial transactions of these persons of interest are being monitored by the relevant agencies to ensure that the assets are not dissipated and such persons do not interfere with, nor howsoever corrupt the investigation and litigation processes.”

APC deserves re-election in view of its achievements — President Buhari tells Nigerians

President Buhari who spoke at an interfaith initiative for peace conference on Religious Harmony in Nigeria which held in Abuja today October 13th, stated that his government deserves continuity.

According to President Buhari, Nigeria has moved on, the era of free money, lack of transparency and accountability is over.

”I am proud to say that our country has moved on, the era of free money, lack of transparency and accountability is over! We deserve continuity; we deserve a better future for the coming generations. I sincerely hope 2019 will move us closer to these goals and so I look forward to a peaceful, fair and credible elections come 2019”.

President Buhari also advised clerics to stop playing partisan politics. The President said his advice became necessary, having witnessed the roles religious leaders have been playing so far ahead of the elections.

“Very soon, political campaigns will commence leading to elections in February next year.Having witnessed the roles our religious leaders have been playing so far, I appeal to them to eschew partisan politics and appeal to their respective members to read the manifestos of each political party, discuss and pray for God’s guidance before casting their votes.

“Religious leaders should not be seen to involve themselves in partisan politics or political controversies. Otherwise, they risk losing their status and public respect” he said.

2019: We were shocked on Atiku’s choice of Peter Obi – Southeast governors, PDP

South-East Governors on Saturday expressed shock over Alhaji Atiku Abubakar’s choice of Peter Obi as his running mate for the 2019 presidential election.

We reports that the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the zone took same stand.

Their position was made known by the Chairman of the South East Governors’ Forum and governor of Ebonyi State, Chief David Umahi.

He, however, said that the Presidential candidate of the Party, Atiku will meet with South East leaders over the choice of his running mate.

He announced this in Enugu while addressing journalists after emergency meeting of the PDP stakeholders in the South East.

According to him, the meeting was to brainstorm on the various news making the rounds in the social media concerning purported choice of the former governor of Anambra state as Atiku’s running mate.

He said both PDP governors in the zone and indeed other stakeholders were shocked over the news of a vice presidential slot given to Ndigbo whereas no former notice to that effect was given.

Umahi revealed that Alhaji Atiku Abubakar sent in message during their meeting informing them that he was out of the country on a short period and pleaded with them to remain calm that he will be coming down to the zone to dialogue with leaders.

“We saw news flying up and down saying that our presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar has picked a running mate from the zone.

“We were shocked because we were not consulted. While we were meeting, Atiku sent message that he travelled out of the country for a short period. He promised to come down and meet with South East leaders,” he said.

Similarly, the vice chairman of the PDP, in the South East zone, Augustine Umahi, echoed what the Ebonyi governor said, stressing that leaders of the party in the zone saw the news of Obi’s nomination as running mate in the social media.

“Our leaders are saying that we are not yet aware that such a thing (Obi’s appointment) happened.

“We have gotten in touch him (Atiku), he is traveling tonight and he promised that when comes back we shall meet in that.

“Peter Obi is our son, and from South East, we are not rejecting or accepting him but we are saying is that we are not aware, you cannot shave a man in his absence,” he said.

The meeting was attended by Governors Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, Okezie Ikpeazu and Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, others were members of the National Assembly from the zone and other major stakeholders.

Can Atiku Defeat Buhari In 2019, By Dele Momodu

Fellow Nigerians, interesting times are here again. And the ways of God are mysterious indeed. This time last week, no one was sure who would ultimately emerge as the quintessential leader of opposition for the general elections in our dear beloved country which comes up in February next year. There were about 12 assorted gladiators lined up and seeking the Presidential ticket of PDP, which truly needs to redeem itself urgently from the vestiges of near death. For the most part, its national convention in Port Harcourt went smoothly. Even its worst critics attest to the fact that it was effectively well organised and set the right tone for the regeneration of the democratic credentials of the Party. What was more remarkable, a candidate emerged without rancour or the usual bickering that attends such highly contentious contests. Virtually all the other aspirants immediately aligned with their chosen candidate, former Vice President of Nigeria, the Wazirin Adamawa, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar.

Since then, both traditional and social media have ignited with blazing fire with both positive and negative comments about the outcome. Atiku himself wasted no time in seeking the support of everyone, whether members of his Party or not. He’s smart and knowledgeable to know that he will need more than votes of the Party faithful alone to win the stiff electoral battle ahead. As he emphasised in my two previous interviews with him in the last couple of months, he has redeemed his pledge to pick a Vice Presidential candidate from the South East of Nigeria, a move many Nigerians have applauded, and embraced, as a masterstroke. The choice of former Governor Peter Obi of Anambra State is seen by some analysts as the first step towards the restructuring Atiku and company have been mouthing from the rooftops in recent times. Apart from this, Peter Obi is seen by many as a seasoned technocrat and astute businessman with credible and capable government experience and service. The Igbos have rightly complained that they have had neither the Presidential or Vice-Presidential slot since 1983, some 35 years ago, when Dr Alex Ekwueme, of blessed memory, was President Shehu Shagari’s deputy. Buhari has an equally formidable person, who also boasts intimidating credentials and capabilities, as his Vice-President in Professor Yemi Osinbajo.

Obi comes with an array of impressive academic, business and political credentials and achievements. He is a Philosophy graduate from the University of Nsukka. He has improved and enhanced himself with academic and practical studies at Harvard Business School, London School of Economics, Kellogg School of Management, University of Columbia, Said Business School, Oxford University, George Business School, Cambridge University and Lagos Business School. These have sharpened his entrepreneurial, management and leadership skills which he clearly utilised in the 8 years that he was Governor of Anambra State between 2006 and 2014. Peter Obi is a recipient of many national and international awards notably the Melinda and Bill Gates Foundation Award for which his State won US$1 million for its immunisation programme. He created an enabling environment for industrial development in Anambra State which saw the likes of SABMiller, the 2nd largest brewery in the world establishing their first Greenfield facility in Anambra State. Similarly, Innoson Motors established their internationally acclaimed plant where they manufacture their made in Nigeria vehicles. Obi adds unquantifiable value to the Atiku candidacy in much the same way as Vice President Osinbajo has done for President Buhari. The battle of the Vice-Presidential candidates may well be the tipping point of these forthcoming elections. We will revisit the contest between this highly esteemed and acclaimed gentlemen soon.

The battle for the control of Nigeria’s jugular in 2019 is all set and looks like a straight fight between Buhari/Osinbajo and Abubakar/Obi, except a miracle, or some magic, erupts and one of the fringe candidates pulls a monumental surprise by defeating both teams in what must be close to a volcanic eruption in Nigeria. I personally do not see that happening.

The battle will be tough because old rivalries will also come into play. Buhari needs to prove and revalidate his seeming invincibility which seems to be waning if my reading of the pulse of public opinion is accurate. As the incumbent, Buhari controls the appurtenances of power. His ego is at stake. Like former President Olusegun Obasanjo, Buhari came back to power as a retired army General and former military Head of State. Obasanjo was able to complete two terms and Buhari would definitely wish to equal that feat even if he can’t surpass it because of constitutional limitations. Buhari is not known to be a self-acclaimed democrat. The aspect of his brand that has brought him this far is his no-nonsense posturing. A man who would destroy and obliterate all looters and oppressors, by any means possible, if allowed to have his way. This has endeared him to a multitude of totally loyal die-hard supporters. His disciples swear by his name and they are willing to fly to heaven and back to prove their ardent fervour and love for him.

Buhari comes into the boxing ring with a daunting personality and attributes. He is tall and gangling, even if seemingly frail, but his punches are capable of deadly effect. Unlike Obasanjo or Atiku, many have said this President is not going to bow to any public opinion and go away without a whimper. Fingers are being pointed at the recent over-militarisation of the democratic process and suspected manipulation of the electoral body, INEC. Whether imaginary or not, or imagination just running riot, no one can easily dismiss certain unseemly electoral practices and possibilities in next year’s elections. We hope that the desperation to remain in power will not go as far as besmirching the view of how far our democracy has been deepened by the fact of President Goodluck Jonathan, accepting the will of the people, and handing over power to President Buhari without any fuss.

The Buhari government won’t accept the tag of incompetence many have affixed to it. They have already compiled a long list of their projects and accomplishments. They have argued that government is a continuum and they are fixing incomplete projects abandoned by its predecessors. Good point. They are correcting the rot of nearly two decades. While they may appear slow, and sluggish, to those of us on the outside, they are insisting they have had to be methodical and painstaking in their work. Perhaps, they are right, we are not sure.

FromAtiku’s side, he comes with an effervescent, ever smiling easy going demeanour and personality. He is renowned for his great flexibility and negotiation skills, a shrewd manager of men and women and resources. However, when required he is known to possess a steely resolve necessary to head a country like Nigeria. Atiku comes with a controversial and colourful past though, not least because of the unrelenting assault and pummelling about his character that he had been subjected to by his former boss, President Olusegun Obasanjo. This is veritable easy meat and fodder for APC to deploy in rubbishing his candidacy and demonstrating his unfitness to be President of this great nation.
We should expect Atiku and his campaign team to go all out on the offensive and try to debunk all the criticisms, arguments and jibes that APC will propel at him. The harsh disparaging and denigrating diatribe as well as the strident blame game the Buhari government has perfected will have to be met head on by Atiku and his forces. It will not be easy as so much damage has been done to Atiku in the past by the perception of him as an unreliable corrupt politician. On his part Atiku can point to the fact that notwithstanding all the many allegations made against him, nobody has yet been made to make any stick. He has consistently maintained his innocence and dared anyone to prove otherwise. Nobody has called his bluff, if bluff it is! Indeed, he has pointedly referred to the claimed American albatross hanging over his head like a sword of Damocles, that it is but a mere figment of imagination of his inept traducers. As Atiku says, he has never been charged or indicted for any offence either in Nigeria or elsewhere. the American Government has never declared him wanted. He has applied for an American visa on a few occasions, but this has not been granted. If indeed he was wanted in America, surely his visa would have been granted to enable him visit and be arrested. The American Government has never denied either of these claims. On the contrary, that Government has also stated that Atiku is not wanted. In my view, that should put an end to the matter.

The Buhari Presidency is not without its shortcomings and negatives. I expect the Atiku campaign to focus heavily on those areas where the Nigerian public have been most critical of the Buhari administration. They will undoubtedly point at the precarious economic condition of Nigerians and Nigeria and blame Buhari for creating panic in the system. On this aspect, Buhari obviously relies on the fact that oil prices dipped violently when he assumed power, but nonetheless his Government has grown foreign reserves to US$44 million and maintained the Naira at a steady level in the past year. Critics of this position point to the fact that oil prices have now increased to a level not contemplated by the Government, which has increased borrowing to an unprecedented level and appears to have heavily mortgaged Nigeria to the Chinese through the exceptionally and dangerously ominous high level of borrowing from that country. The Government has also revived and revitalised transportation through its resuscitation of the road and rail networks. The opposition PDP has always claimed that Government is a continuum, and it was PDP that conceived, started and almost completed these projects, none of which this administration could claim to have commenced itself. Atiku and his team will also enjoy castigating the Buhari government as being overly dependent on taxing business and ordinary Nigerians to death. Atiku will also naturally present, and sell, himself as a successful businessman and try to portray Buhari as a novice who lacks business acumen and therefore is not business friendly. Atiku will contend that Buhari has never had a head, or acumen, for business which accounts for why Nigeria is on the verge of an economic precipice even as the dark shadows that loomed globally at the beginning of his tenure have lifted considerably and there should have been prosperity in the land. Atiku says he has a well-structured economic blueprint, whilst the government is presently adopting and applying a slapdash and inimical approach to the economy.

Furthermore, the Atiku camp will exploit the heightened insecurity in the country especially by the infamous herdsmen which the government appears to be treating glibly. They will also point to the apparent resurgence of the Boko Haram insurgency despite what the Buhari administration will claim are the valiant efforts of our security forces. The agitation by IPOB and its followers continues relentlessly. The manner in which the Government has handled the situation is something that the opposition Party is expected to capitalise upon.

While Buhari would tout his anti-corruption pedigree, Atiku would lampoon it as nothing but grandstanding and at the very best a witch-hunt of the opposition Party. Atiku will contend that most of those who have defected to the ruling Party have had grave allegations of corruption levelled against them in the past, but these have mysteriously disappeared as soon as they jumped shipped and landed with the ruling Party. In addition, I can foresee the opposition claiming that almost all of the so-called achievements of the Buhari Government in relation to corruption originated from the Jonathan administration and that within the highest level of government corruption is rife and thriving and being studiously overlooked by the President because they concern his friends and cronies. The ding-dong claims and counter-claims will dovetail into other areas and continue unabated until well after the general elections.

The most critical area would be how to get the numbers together to win. Buhari will come in with anything between 10 million to 12 million guaranteed votes, as always. Most of those votes would come from North West and North East. For whatever reason, I believe that more people will be stated to have voted in this election than in 2015. In my estimation the victor will need to garner at least 18 million votes for success. What is not certain is if North East would abandon its own son now that it has the brightest chance since Tafawa Balewa from Bauchi became Prime Minister in the First republic. PDP will play its traditional joker from the South East and South South axis. Buhari and Atiku require humongous votes from about four out of six regions. Buhari would target North East, North West, North Central and South West while Atiku will target North East (as his home base), North Central (as an endangered zone supposedly mismanaged by the APC Government), South East, South South and enough of a chunk from South West. Let no one rule Atiku out of those five zones, in the present mood across the country. If Atiku gallops away, continuously, as it seems at the moment, he might obliterate Buhari in a devastating defeat.

As tough as it may seem, after running for a record 25 years, perhaps this may be Atiku’s date with destiny and his final battle.

Respect court judgment on Rivers APC, party chieftains tell Oshiomhole

PROTESTS against the outcome of the primaries conducted by the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Working Committee, (NWC) led by Comrade Adams Oshiomhole continued on Friday in Abuja, as aggrieved chieftains of the party from Rivers State besieged its national secretariat.

Led by Ambassador Anosike Odowa, they demanded the compliance with Wednesday Rivers State High Court judgement in Port Harcourt which nullified the nomination of Mr Tonye Cole as the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress in the state.

Delivering judgment in a suit filed by 23 APC members, Justice Chiwendu Nwogu, declared that all actions taken by the Ojukaye Flag-Amachree-led executive of the state APC, including the indirect governorship primary conducted by a faction of the party led the Minister of Transportation, Mr Rotimi Amaechi, had been set aside.

Justice Nwogu further declared that the ward congresses of Rivers APC were illegal, adding that the congresses were not conducted according to the APC guidelines and constitution.

Addressing newsmen in Abuja, Ambassador Odowa appealed to Comrade Oshiomole to avoid the fate that befell the ruling party in Zamfara state and declared Senator Magnus Abe as the winner of the direct primaries conducted in the state. He further accused the former Rivers State governor, Rotimi Amaechi of instigating crisis in the State.

He said: “We are members of APC from Rivers State. We are here this morning to register our grievances, to speak to the National Chairman of the party and the NEC of our party that one man called Rotimi Chubuike Amaechi, the Minister of Transportation has gone ahead to disobey Court judgement.

“He brought his business partner to be the candidate of our party and we are saying that we don’t know Tonye Cole. We are members of this party, we struggled for this party and we believe in APC. We left PDP to APC because of impunity and injustice. Now, the National Chairman of our party should do the right thing by accepting the result of direct primaries which Senator Magnus Abe emerged as the winner.

“Now the Court of competent jurisdiction sitting in Port Harcourt has ruled and voided every activity of the purported primaries conducted by Rotimi Chubuike Amaechi. Indirect primaries conducted by Rotimi Chubuike Amaechi has been voided and in law, it cannot stand. If APC wants to win Rivers State then Magnus Abe is the governorship candidate in Rivers State.

“We will stop at nothing, we will fight our last strength to ensure that justice must prevail. We are stakeholders in this party and I will advise the National Chairman to be upright and Amaechi should stop pushing him, this party is not Amaechi Peoples Party, it is All Progressives Congress party, not Amaechi Personal Property.

We want to ask that the National Chairman should live up to expectation and do the right thing. We know him to be a man who is upright but he should not allow his integrity to be questioned in this matter. Rivers State is for direct primaries and Magnus Abe emerged winner of the direct primaries.”

The protesters further dismissed the allegation that Senator Abe was working with Rivers State governor, Nyesom Wike to undermine APC in the State.

“We want to say without fear and contradiction that Senator Magnus Abe is a true APC member, he has never betrayed the confidence reposed in him. When Mangus went to receive the bullet, everybody was saying that ‘this is a true APC member.’ Did he tell them to disallow them from contesting in the primaries that they were supposed to contest? When we wanted to do our ward, local government and state primaries, did he say they should not contest? When they deprived people and they went to a court of competent jurisdiction to address the issue they said he is working with Wike, today they are accusing him.

He remains the only committed APC member that has worked for this party. You recall that in 2015, when PDP won the election in Rivers State and it was nullified in December 2016 that election was conducted. The only man who won his senatorial district is Magnus Abe.”

2019: INEC raises alarm, Says APC, PDP, others yet to submit list of candidates

THE  Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has said that none of the 89 political parties that notified the Commission of their intention to conduct their primaries has submitted the list of its sponsored candidates to the Commission for the 2019 general elections as on Thursday.

The Commission in a statement signed and issued by a member of the Information and Voter Education Committee (IVEC), National Commissioner, Mohammed Haruna, revealed that  all the 89 parties were yet to submit the list of their sponsored candidates contained in CF 002 and personal particulars contained in Form 001 to the centre designated by the Commission for the collection.

The statement further restated its stance that the deadline for the submission of Forms CF001 and CF002 for the 2019 general elections remain October 18 2018, while the deadline for submitting same for the Governorship and State Assemblies is 2nd November 2018.

Meanwhile, it equally announced a major shakeup in the Commission.

According to the statement, Mrs Amina Zakari, erstwhile head of Electoral Operations and Logistic Committee have been redeployed to the Health and Welfare Committee.

Professor Okechukwu Ibeanu is now to superintend over the Commission Logistic Committee.

Checks revealed that the Commission decisive step to move Mrs Zakari to a less sensitive position was informed by a public outcry by opposition political parties which believed that  Amina Zakari, a relation of President Muhammadu Buhari, might compromise her office to favour the incumbent president who is seeking a fresh mandate.

Prince Solomon Soyebi was moved from the Information Committee to join the Board of the Electoral Institute.

Barrister Festus Okoye was announced as new helmsman of the Information and Voters’ Education Committee.

Tinubu lost his voice when herdsmen attacked Falae, Yorubas – Afenifere blasts APC leader

The spokesman for Afenifere, Yinka Odumakin, has lambasted a former Lagos State Governor, Bola Tinubu, for allegedly keeping mute when Fulani herdsmen abducted elder statesman, Olu Falae, and attacked farmers in parts of South-West.

He dismissed Tinubu’s claims that the South-West was not affected by herdsmen attacks, noting that the marauders had killed people in Yewa, Oke Ogun, Akure, Ekiti and other parts of the region.

Reacting to a statement by Tinubu’s media aide, Tunde Rahman, in which he said the Afenifere chieftain was suffering from selective amnesia, Odumakin, in a statement on Thursday, accused the All Progressives Congress leader of living in denial.

He said, “Tinubu has maintained a sinful silence as herdsmen launched vicious attacks on the South-West and other sections of the country with thousands of lives lost in the last three years.

“He can play the ostrich all he wants but we know he was mute when herdsmen kidnapped Chief Olu Falae. He could not find his voice when herders killed people in Yewa, Oke Ogun, Akure, Ekiti and the Middle Belt.

“Neither did I hear a word from Tinubu when herdsmen kidnapped and killed a Permanent Secretary in Osun (where Tinubu and I are from).”

Odumakin said Tinubu only postured as a federalist when it suited him, noting that cattle herders as businessmen should apply to state governors for land allocation if they were interested in ranching.

“I do not intend to take issues with him in all the personal attacks and insinuations of disorder of the mind. Why should I when I know that it is chronic abusers of substance that are more prone to suffer from such? Thank God I am not one of them,” Odumakin asked.

Any man of God against Buhari is fake — Interfaith Group

The Chairman, Organising Secretary for the 40 days prayer session for the re-election of President Muhammadu Buhari and Peace in Nigeria, Alhaji Abubakar Wada has said any man of God not in support of Buhari at the moment was not called by God.

Wada, who spoke at the second day of the prayer session organised by the National Inter-Faith and Religious Organisations for Peace (NIFROP) in Abuja, said it was necessary for all religious leaders at the moment to rally round President Buhari for Peace to reign in the country.

He added that with persistent prayers, all the storms confronting the nation could be a thing of the past.

Also speaking at the session, Bishop Sunday Garuba charged Nigerians to be more fervent in prayer so that the Nation could overcome its present challenges.

He added that an array of soul-enriching activities to make the event worthwhile have been lined up.

“We shall commence this programme with worship and praise by guest singers and choirs. After which we shall begin Intercessory prayer session for Nigeria, prayer session for President Buhari and his cabinet, prayer for the Nigerian troops at the war front, intercessory prayer for the upcoming General Election and peaceful conduct by all citizens, and Intercessory prayer for our dear president and his victory at the poll.

“We shall also hold a special Thanksgiving session with praises to appreciate God for the defeat of Boko Haram and the political killers who came to torment the citizens of our dear country.

“A prayer against evil men on the Plateau and other forces of evil across Nigeria that have continued to encourage bloodletting in recent times.

“There shall also be a different representation of members of the various faiths gathered, as well as messages of solidarity to the good people of Nigeria.

“My dear brothers and sisters gathered here, we are gathered to pray and fervently. We are gathered to pray against evil forces. We are also gathered to pray for the betterment of our dear country Nigeria.

“God in his infinite mercies would make this event a huge success and also, by his grace alone President Muhammdu Buhari shall return in 2019,” he said.

'The ‘God’ that installed Muhammadu Buhari as president in 2015, will remove him and replace him with Atiku in 2019 - Arewa Youth Consultative Forum.

The Arewa Youth Consultative Forum, AYFC, has reacted to the emergence of former President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, as the standard bearer of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in the 2019 presidential election.

The organization said that the ‘God’ that installed Muhammadu Buhari as president in 2015, will remove him and replace him with Atiku in 2019.

Speaking in an interview with Dailypost on Friday, the President of the Arewa youths, Alhaji Yerima Shettima, also congratulated the PDP and Nigerians for the successful conduct of the party’s National Convention in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, last weekend.

According to Shettima, PDP has demonstrated seriousness and maturity and has shown Nigerians that they were ready to take over power from the All Progressives Congress, APC, a party he described as a mere organization.

Shettima said that although had strongly canvassed for a young president, Atiku was an alternative to the desirable.

“For us, what happened at the PDP (National) Convention was clearly a demonstration of a people trying to sustain the country’s democracy because the conduct, process of how Atiku Abubakar emerged is a clear indication that PDP has demonstrated maturity and seriousness to move the country forward.

“For us, we congratulate them and we congratulate ourselves because democracy has come to stay and that is what has been displayed and we hope Nigerians have seen all they needed to see.

“It’s clear that PDP is now the only party that can give Nigeria what they truly desire. As far as I’m concern, APC’s conducts, attributes and approaches to issues do not in any way portray them in good light to me or to a lot of us because the way they run the party, it is clear that it is more or less an organization owned by one individual or group of individuals and they run it the way they like without going through the processes of a political party.

“Indeed we congratulate PDP and indeed we congratulate ourselves and indeed we congratulate Nigeria.

“Indeed, if you look at Atiku’s antecedent, though I’m one of the people who strongly said we needed a young president, but with the present circumstance, and the present situation of things, and sometimes if you look at what will give you answers immediately, there are steps to go for a long term and there are steps to go for a short term. For the short term, Atiku is the only solution available to us right now. And that’s the only thing we have in our hand, as far as we are concerned,

“Atiku Abubakar remains the alternative. He remains the alternative because when the desirable is not achieved, then we look at the alternatives to the desirable.

“And that’s exactly what we’re looking at right now. We must be sure to give him all the necessary support he needs to emerge as president and save this country. He understands what democracy is all about.

“He was part of the struggle and he paid his dues. The God that gave Muhammadu Buhari the election of 2015 will definitely give Atiku 2019. We will do our own and God will decide. Nigerians have suffered a lot.

“We did not bargain for hunger; we didn’t bargain for poverty; we didn’t bargain for deceit; we didn’t bargain for blackmails and these are the only things the president government can do for the past three and a half years.”

Garba Shehu under fire for attacking Obasanjo, Atiku, others

Garba Shehu, Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to President Muhammadu Buhari has come under attack for criticizing his former boss, Atiku Abubakar.

Shehu worked under the Waziri of Adamawa between 2003 and 2015.

The Presidential spokesperson had on Thursday berated former President, Olusegun Obasanjo for endorsing Abubakar for the 2019 Presidential election at a meeting in Ogun State.

Shehu who described the meeting as a ‘well-rehearsed theatre’ was quoted as saying, “It is just eleven years ago that the former President and Vice President in their ugly fight for power accused each other of corruption. Nigerians are yet to forget all that.

“They will lose together. Listening to the prepared statement of the former President after the meeting showed the usual ego trip and “I know it all” character of Chief Obasanjo.”

In their reaction, Nigerians, who took to their social media expressed divergent opinions.

Here are some comments gathered from Twitter.

@Gerund90, ”You were Atiku’s media aide before he donated you to Buhari’s campaign. Now you want to deny your boss. Don’t worry, no food for you after May 29th.”

@olajidevincent, ”And Nigerians remembered that you supported the then VP and now candidate of @OfficialPDPNig. You supported him with all you got and even denied all corruption charges against him. Whatever you are doing today for @MBuhari, you did more for @atiku then.”

@Heightinfinity, ”If Nigerians can forget that your boss toppled democracy which he now enjoys through coup d’etat in 80s, then nothing stops them from forgetting whatever happened in the Obasanjo-Atiku regime.

@SKSolaKuti, ”Garba Shehu refused to author any press release when Atiku emerged as PDP chairman. He has found his voice when it concerns OBJ. Meanwhile, It is only in Nigeria that people say something is a non-issue in a press release on the issue that is a non-issue. Awon ode.”

@Veektohr1, ”Garba Shehu won’t be working in the villa if Atiku didn’t lend Buhari his media team before the 2015 elections and allowed Shehu to continue working for the president but now he wan dey insult am, na wa.”

@BaronvonGeoff1, ”Garba Shehu’s filibustering is all about stomach infrastructure. If Fayose hires him tomorrow he will tear Buhari to shreds.”

@JShoremekun, ”See how the event turns, The same Garba Shehu was the Media aide to Atiku at the time Atiku and OBJ fell out. He remained so until his current appointment by PMB. Now he is on the other side dishing out jab at his former boss. The coming days promise to be interesting!”’

@PapazLagos, ”Buhari should ask Garba Shehu to honorably resign. How do you have someone who worked as Atiku’s media aide all his life as your mouthpiece against his former boss?”

@rapuchukwu, ”Garba Shehu have you forgotten that Atiku was your boss for more than a decade. Don’t forget your roots.”

@EdreezGombawa, ”Will Garba Shehu call his former boss corrupt despite all the articles he wrote way back trying to clear his name? Will he resign and declare support to his former boss? Will he continue as Buhari’s spokesperson and go on a rigorous campaign to help his current boss win the election?”

@stopcorruption1, ”Politics Today: People are being blackmailed, what Doyin Okupe and Reubén Abatti did in their era is now being replicated by Femi Adesina and Garba Shehu, what Obasanjo did for Buhari, same he has just done for Atiku. Our politics is the same yesterday, today and forever more.”

@AyeeshaMusa1, ”And so my prediction about @GarShehu played out, he finally spoke bad against his master. This same Garba Shehu that adored, damn I love the Internet”

@iam_wilsons, ”It actually took Garba Shehu 4 days to write those jargons. Hmm, this @atiku man must be troubling these people in their coven.”

@MrTomide, ”How will Garba Shehu cope with attacking Atiku in favour of Buhari and defending Buhari against Atiku’s attacks now? May our loyalty never be tested.”

@YouthsForAtiku, ”Empowering someone at times is bad, just take a look at Garba Shehu, Atiku made you whatever you think you are today, but such is life, may those you uplift(if any) treat you back this way in Jesus name.”

Presidency answer Atiku's 14 questions, lists Buhari’s ongoing/completed projects across 36 states (FULL LIST)

In what appears like a responseto the 14 posers raised by the Atiku Presidential Campaign Organisation, the Personal Assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on New Media, Bashir Ahmad, has published a list of ongoing and completed projects across the country by the Buhari administration.

The Atiku Presidential Campaign Organisation had accused Buhari and the All Progressives Congress (APC) of abandoning their duties to hurling insults at the former vice-president Atiku Abubakar, who is the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2019 presidential elections.

The organization then challenged the government and the APC to name one project started and completed by Buhari administration.

In view of the above challenge, the Presidency has now listed all the ongoing and completed projects done by President Buhari across all 36 states in the country.

We are committed to accountability - Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari on Friday said his administration remained committed to accountability in the country.

He said the enforcement of the Treasury Single Account was not optional for growth.

According to a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina, the President spoke while receiving executives of the Association of National Accountants of Nigeria led by Alhaji Shehu Ladan at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Buhari said insistence on the financial structure required much sacrifice and focus on the part of the government as accountability was no longer optional.

The President said, “One of the cardinal objectives of this administration is that people and all government institutions must give account for what comes in and goes out.

“We did not introduce TSA, but we enforced it.

“TSA makes a lot of sense that you must have to give account for whatever comes in and goes out in government finance; that’s accountability.

Buhari urged accountants to remain focused and support the government in the ongoing fight against corruption.

He said although they might not be liked by many people because of their professional ethics, the sacrifice was necessary for the country to grow.

In his remarks, Ladan commended the President for the achievements in ensuring an inclusive and strong economy by plugging leakages and making youth empowerment and infrastructure top priority.

“This government has instilled fiscal discipline by plugging leakages,” the President of ANAN was quoted as saying.

He added that Nigeria’s image in the comity of nations had also improved significantly, attracting more Foreign Direct Investments.

The ANAN President noted that the President’s assent to the Not-Too-Young-To- Run bill further encouraged youth participation in governance.

He said the fight against terrorism was commendable as the Boko Haram insurgents had been degraded, extolling the administration’s effort in getting the economy out of recession, and repositioning it for diversity through agriculture.

“Your second term, Mr. President, will bring more succour to Nigerians,” he added.

2019 presidency: Why Atiku, PDP must give Vice President slot to South-East – Arewa youths

The Arewa Youth Consultative Forum, AYCF, has adduced reasons the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and its presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, should pick a vice presidential candidate from the South-East.

According to the Arewa youths, handing the number-two position to the South East will make the people of the region feel they are part of the country.

Speaking with Dailypost on Thursday, Yerima Shettima, the President of the AYCF, noted that it was the marginalization of the region by successive governments that gave rise to agitations being witnessed in the geopolitical zone.

Shettima said the South-East must be shown that they truly belong to this country not just by giving them the VP slot, but by allowing them produce Nigeria’s president.

According to him, “I will advise that the PDP and Atiku pick the Vice President from the East. The Vice President should come from the East now. Let us be all inclusive in our ways of life; and in our thinking.

“Let the Vice President come from the East so that they’ll not feel they are not part of this country. Some of these agitations coming from the East were as a result of this marginalization attitude.

“Then the East has to coordinate themselves and be very united so that not only the vice president… We’re hopeful that with time, power will definitely go back to the East. Because they are part of the country.

“They are not out of the country, they are part of Nigeria. So we must be free to carry them along; they must be free to demonstrate that they are part of Nigeria. We must carry them along without laying abuses, molestation.

“Without abusing the sensibility of any individual or group of people or any community. what is good for me should also be good for another man so we must be free to apply the principle of fairness to all.”

I’m contesting for Presidency as Nigerian, not Igbo –Presidential hopeful, Moghalu

Prof. Kingsley Moghalu, the Presidential Candidate of the Young Progressives Party (YPP) on Friday said that he was contesting for the office of the President as a Nigerian and not as an Igbo man.

Moghalu, who was a former deputy governor of the CBN, said that Nigeria’s problem was not about tribes, but socio-economic problems that touched every part of the country.

The candidate, in a statement he made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos, said that any creative limiting his presidential ambition to any tribe was the handwork of mischief makers.

“Almost a year since I started to engage Nigerians on my candidacy and vision for the country; I have held town hall meetings in nearly all the states in the country, with more still to be done.

“Anyone who has listened or paid attention to our interactive session with various groups will realise what our single message has always been that Nigeria’s problems are not about tribes.

“We all, as Nigerians, have the power to choose something new, something different that will redirect the country into an upward trend.

“Our politics has always been plagued by the scourges of tribalism, nepotism, and corruption, a colonial tool that the political class has exploited in order to divide and control us,” Moghalu said.

According to him, Nigerians cannot afford to keep thinking about whether a candidate is Hausa, Igbo, Yoruba, Efik, Ijaw or Ibibio.

He said that Nigeria needed competent and trustworthy leaders which had been the focus of his talks about his aspiration.

“It is time to put aside these differences and aim for something that unites us all, to deliver a country that works for every citizen,” he added.
