Debt Profile Of The 36 States Of The Federation As Released By Debt Management Office.( D.M.O).

According to the Debt Management Office (DMO), the 36 states of the Federation and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) owed about $2.22billion (N333.05billion) in external debts as at June, 2011, almost half of national debt building up so soon after the much celebrated debt exit of 2003.

The debt stock is party-blind. Indeed it is a kind of bi-partisan indebtedness. Lagos leads with external debt of $460.742million, representing 8.54 percent of the nation's external debt; Kaduna State owes $175.433million, representing 3.25 percent, Cross River, owes $124.022million, representing 2.30percent of the nation's external debt, and third leading debtor state.

The debt profile of some other states are as follows;
Abia State, $34.048million,
Adamawa State; $29.45million,
Akwa Ibom ($70.56million);
Anambra ($23.722million);
Bauchi ($58.8million);
Bayelsa ($28.77million);
Benue ($25.016million);
Borno ($14.036million);
Delta ($17.63million);
Ebonyi ($42.149million);
Edo ($46.92million);
Ekiti ($36.201million);
Enugu ($41.66million);
Gombe ($27.96million);
Imo ($52.32million).

In the period under review,
Jigawa State's external debt was $29.120million;
Kano ($63.94million);
Katsina ($78.75million);
Kebbi ($51.644million);
Kogi ($36.203million);
Kwara ($48.557million);
Nassarawa ($41.35million);
Niger ($27.438million);
Ogun ($91.902million);
Ondo ($60.794million);
Osun ($65.332million);
Oyo ($93.990million);
Plateau ($26.974million);
Rivers ($36.501million);
Sokoto ($41.206million);
Taraba ($21.111million);
Yobe ($31.690million);
Zamfara ($27.186million) and
FCT ($37.664million).

DMO added that; "These figures exclude arrears that only become obvious by the end of the year". Again if we weigh the debt burden of the states with their monthly Federal allocations, your guess is as good as mine as to if the states are bankrupt or not.

Charly Boy Brings Python To Nigerian Idol Auditions In Enugu.

The organisers got more than they bargained for when the audition judge’s pet python jumped out of her box.
The Enugu leg of the auditions for the second season of the Nigerian Idol reality show was drama-filled. According to eyewitnesses, trouble started when Charly Boy insisted on bringing his female pet python, "Abiku", to the judges' table.

This was not accepted by the organisers who tried to talk him out of his crazy idea to no avail. Fellow Judge, Jeffery Daniel also tried to wade into the matter by calming down Charly Boy down.

Alas, the snake's box suddenly popped open and the python charged at the cameras, probably sensing her master was in danger. The crew and those nearby took to their heels while Charly Boy tried to calm his pet.

Charly Boy pampered Abiku with a slow tender massage and words, which took about 10 minutes, after which she crawled quietly back into her box. Charly Boy then settled down at the judges’ table to carry out his duties as an Idol judge.

The organisers of the competition are yet to comment on the issue. However, we expect not only music, but fun-filled drama, action and surprises in this must-watch season II of the Nigerian Idol show.

Stephen Keshi Appointed Super Eagles Coach To Replace Siasia.

Nigeria appoints former captain Stephen Keshi as the coach to revive the fortunes of the Super Eagles.
Keshi replaces Samson Siasia, who was sacked last Friday after his 2012 Nations Cup qualifying failure.
The 49-year-old, who captained Nigeria at the 1994 World Cup finals, was previously in charge of Mali and Togo at international level.
Keshi was also part of the last Nigerian side to win the Africa Cup of Nations - as they did in 1994.
It was a unanimous decision taken by the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) for the appointment of Stephen Keshi as the new head coach of the national team," said NFF deputy president Mike Umeh.
The NFF's Executive Committee met in the Nigerian capital Abuja on Wednesday and deliberated on the recommendations of the body's Technical Committee, who had recommended Keshi.
Having been given a deal that goes until 2014, Keshi has been handed the mandate of taking Nigeria to both the 2013 Nations Cup and the World Cup the following year.
His contract includes a stipulation that he must qualify for South Africa 2013 and reach the quarter-finals of the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
Keshi will be free to choose his assistant.
There was no news on whether a Technical Director will be appointed to oversee Keshi's role.
This is mainly because Keshi achieved a major qualifying success when leading unfancied Togo to the 2006 World Cup in Germany.
