Globacom Launches The X Factor In Nigeria.

RUNNING Glo Naija Sings for two seasons might not have been worth the while of indigenous telecommunications company, Globacom, which last week, made public, its acquisition of a new music talent reality format called The X Factor.

Glo had partnered Multichoice in its previous project, which saw upcoming Abuja-based singer, Christian, winning the coveted prize money of $100, 000 (One Hundred Thousand Dollars) in 2011. The show however did not fly in 2012, until this new revelation by Glo, of The X Factor project.

The ceremony for the new show, which held at the GET Arena, Lekki, spoke volume, as the company prides itself with the unique selling points of the format - a world leading music singing talent reality TV show. The X Factor, a Syco-owned format, produced and distributed worldwide by Fremantle Media, is coming to Africa for the first time, and Globacom is proud that it is starting in Nigeria, the hub of its business. The show is also expected to draw participants from Ghana, the second business home of the Glo network.

Glo will be beating its own record of $100, 00 (One Hundred Thousand Dollars) in the rested Glo Naija Sings, with a more attractive offer of $150,000 ( equivalent of N24million) for the eventual winner of Glo X factor. This is the highest prize money that would be offered by any reality show organizers in Nigeria at the moment.

The would-be winner is also expected to enjoy a recording contract with the internationally acclaimed Sony Music for the recording of an album and professional management of the winning individual or group.

The X Factor, like other reality shows, seeks new talents. It is contested by aspiring singers, drawn from public auditions and is open to all ages, sex, styles, solo acts or groups. A major difference between the show and others is that the judges also double as coaches for the various groups. It is peculiarly split in stages, following the contestants from auditions through to the boot camp, the judges' homes; to the grand finale. Dancers are also featured and contestants could accompany themselves on guitar, piano or any other musical instruments.

Globacom's Head, Reality Shows, Sulyman Bello is excited about the show: “Africa has been yearning for a programme of this optimum quality,” he said, “and we are privileged to have made it possible.”

Bello revealed that the spur for Globacom, also include the fact that the it is marking is 10th anniversary this year, and The X Factor, is just another way of celebrating the company's success in the last one decade.

“This year marks the 10th anniversary of our operations and this programme is, in part, our modest way of thanking our subscribers for their loyalty and patronage,” he said.

Commenting on the ultimate prize of $150,000 to the winner, Bello said that this is in sync with the profile of the show. “The unprecedented top prize is a reflection of the premium status of the programme; this is in addition to the coveted Sony Music contract with the attendant post-season super star status for the winner and international stardom”, he added. This, according to him, is not provided by any other music talent show in the country today.

Speaking about the show's upcoming debut in Nigeria, Jamie Lynn, EVP Sales & Distribution, EMEA at Fremantle Media said: “The X Factor is one of the leading entertainment shows of this generation and we're absolutely delighted to be working with Glo to bring Nigeria its own version. The blockbuster show has enjoyed immense success all over the world and we have no doubt it will make the same impact in Nigeria as it has had around the globe.”

Successfully launched in major countries including UK, the United States, Albania, Argentina, Australia, Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany and Spain, organizers say The X Factor, will in Africa, schedule a month-long pre-auditions in the first stage, will kick off in Abuja on April 13 and later hold in Port Harcourt, Lagos, and Accra and Kumasi in Ghana.

Shameless Ogoni Elders Fight Over Money paid From Solidarity Visit To Governor Rotimi Amaechi.

The Save Ogoni Environment (SOE) has described as a big shame the fallout of the recently paid solidarity visit by an Ogoni Political group to Gov Amaechi in Port Harcourt.

The SOE received with great disappointment the embarrassing report that participants of the Tuesday, March 25, 2013 solidarity visit to Gov Amaechi at Government House Port Harcourt were torn apart over the deceit and failure of the event's sponsors to pay them reasonably.

In a statement issued by the chairman, Elder Peter Deegbara the group stated that it is her privileged information that the participants expected to be paid as much as N500,000 each but were cut below the belt with the payment of N100,000 to each person after their meeting with the Governor, a situation that sparked serious argument and confrontation with the leaders and sponsors of the trip, as the participants demanded that the money be paid as promised, before they opted to join in the visit.

We gathered on authentic ground that it took the intervention and serious plea by some chiefs at the venue to impress on the group members to give in for calm as more money was being assured.

We feel pained over this disgusting scenario which does not portray the people of Ogoni in good light.

Apart from the fact that the journey was ill-conceived, and does not represent the views and interest of the people of Ogoni, it is our conviction that the forum also did not draw on board mature, objective and patriotic sons and daughters of Ogoni, otherwise, such shameful and embarrassing action would have been avoided.

While we again call on the good people of Ogoni to continue to maintain their neutral stand in the frosty relationship between the Governor and the Presidency, it is our candid opinion to appeal to President Goodluck Jonathan not to take such visit seriously, as to the best of our knowledge, it does not represent the position of the Ogoni people.

We also believe that it will do the people of Ogoni better if they do not allow themselves to be lured into an ill-managed disagreement between the PDP politicians.

Again, we observed that the trip was at the instance of a particular PDP politician, who aims to impose his governorship ambition on the people of Ogoni, an attempt all Ogonis must resist if they must enjoy the full dividends of democracy.

Elder Peter Deegbara
Chairman

Ray-J Reminds Kanye West That He " Banged Kim K First In His Lyrics.

Oh Ray-J. This dude is still reminding the world what he gave us. Nope, not an STD. But Kim K. Superstar. Check out lyrics and the cover of Ray's new track "I Hit It First" inside, plus Cassie's new "Paradise" trailer...

Looks like Brandy's brother is up to his old tricks again. He revealed that he's releasing a new song called "I Hit It First." It hits iTunes April 9th. And yes, it's his ode to Kanye West about who smashed his baby moms first and made her famous.

Ray dropped the single's cover art Friday, which is a pic of Kim K. on a beach back in 2008, all blurred out. And after folks called Ray lame for pulling a thirty move...especially because we ALL know Ray-J wasn't really her first, he tweeted this:

"Lol have some fun! It's not that serious!! #LIVE!!"

Now, a few lyrics have leaked via TMZ. And Ray apparently felt the need to act like it's a privilege to have smashed Kim K. on camera, making her famous:

She might move on to rappers and ballplayers
But we all know I hit it first.

I had her head going North and her ass going South
But now baby chose to go West

No matter where she goes or who she knows
She still belongs in my bed.

Woooow scintillating ..........

Nigerian Entertainment Conference Debuts In Lagos.

Keke Ogungbe, Kola Oyeyemi, Amaka Igwe, Iyiola Ayoade confirmed speakers
Panelists to include: Audu Maikori, Ayo Animashaun, Nse Ikpe-Etim, Kunle Afolayan, DJ Jimmy JATT, Steve Babaeko, Ibinabo Fiberesima, Tolu Ogunlesi, others.

NE Newspapers LTD, publishers of Nigerian Entertainment Today have announced the inauguration of an annual umbrella conference for the Nigerian entertainment industry.

The conference, which will debut on Friday April 26, 2012, ‘is an invaluable initiative needed at this critical time in our industry, to steer the different sectors and associated elements, in the appropriate direction’, according to NETfounder Ayeni Adekunle.

Nigerian Entertainment Conference, Ayeni says, will cover all the sectors associated with the entertainment industry. These include Fashion, Music, Movies/Films, and Media. Others are Sports, Arts, IT, Comedy and Events.

‘The conversation has been on for years, conversations about the way forward for the art and business of entertainment in Nigeria. And, since NET was established three years ago, we’ve been at the forefront of efforts to get the conversation going. Now, it’s time to bring everyone together so we can begin an active process of re-organisation’.

According to statement issued today, NET is working with partners in the media, government, corporates, music, movies and elsewhere to make sure the conference delivers its promise.

To hold at the Eko Hotel and Suites, the first-of-its-kind conference, Ayeni says, will feature sessions on Nollywood, Music, Media, and more, as well as the inaugural NET Honours to reward distinguished practitioners.

The theme of the conference is ‘building the industry of our dreams’.

‘The Nigerian entertainment industry has shown its capacity – if we’ve been able to generate billions of dollars without any visible structures or government support, then imagine what would happen if we’re able to put our house in order? And I say ‘put our house in order’ because no one will do it for us. Not the government, not the ‘corporates’. If it’s ever going to happen, then practitioners will have to be the ones to spearhead it. And it all starts with this conversation’.

As the entertainment business the world over continues to see rapid, shocking changes, with the future of the industry increasingly relying on information technology and new ideas, NET says it’s bringing practitioners in Nigeria together, to ‘study the global trend, understand it, master it, and put it to use – for the benefit of practitioners, consumers, corporates and society’.

Confirmed speakers include Kennis founder and CEO Keke Ogungbe, iconic writer and producer Amaka Igwe, GM Consumer Marketing MTN Nigeria Kola Oyeyemi, and Charterhouse Ghana founder Iyiola Ayoade while the likes of star actress Nse Ikpe-Etim, Headies founder Ayo Animashaun, filmmaker Kunle Afolayan, comedian Tee A, singer-songwriter Darey, entrepreneur Steve Babaeko, recording artiste Weird MC, the iconic DJ Jimmy JATT, National Mirror MD Steve Ayorinde, new media expert Elo Umeh, writer Tolu Ogunlesi, AGN president Ibinabo Fiberesima and Chocolate City president Audu Maikori will serve on different panels. Bribery:23 Judges Under Probe By National Judicial Council.

AlomaAloma
The National Judicial Council (NJC) is currently investigating allegations of sale of judgment against 23 judges across the country.
The affected judges may know their fate by the end of the month when the NJC is due to consider the reports of the ongoing probe of petitions against them.
Those found wanting will either be dismissed or sent on compulsory retirement.
The NJC is headed by the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Mariam Aloma-Mukhtar.
The CJN has already banned politicians from visiting her residence under any guise whatsoever.
A three-man committee is said to be examining each of the petitions against the 23 judges.
Those under investigation include three to four state chief judges, a few justices of the Court of Appeal, as well as federal and state high court judges.
Although the NJC has made reference to some of the ‘erring’ judges, the full list remained a secret at press time.
Allegations against them include judgment fixing, unethical romance with litigants, outright sale of judgments, graft and bribery and engaging in delivery of questionable judgments.
Some of them are also said to have entertained matters beyond their jurisdiction, contradicted their rulings or judgments on similar matters, dismissed cases without taking pleas, sold electoral petitions to the highest bidders and dismissed cases even when there were merits in the applications before them.
A few other judges were also accused of peddling influence among politicians to secure judicial positions.
It was gathered that one of the judges, who had handled a case involving a disgraced former Southsouth governor, ran into trouble for granting an extensive press interview to absolve himself of blame.
The interview was said to be contrary to the code of conduct for judges.
A reliable source said: “The CJN is set to clean up the judiciary, and she is unwavering in her commitment. She is so passionate about it that she has told judges and aides that even if her blood brother is guilty of violating his oath of office as a judge, he will be shown the way out.
“We have 23 judges on records undergoing investigation by the NJC. The ongoing probe is based on petitions. The CJN did not sleep. She made sure she read all the petitions and issued queries to the affected judges before raising investigation panels.
“For each petition, a three-man committee has been raised to look into the allegations against any judge.
“Some of the investigative committees are headed by chief judges of some states and others are being led by reputable retired judges. For instance, the panel which probed the allegations against Hon. Justice C. E. Archibong of the Federal High Court, Lagos was headed by the Chief Judge of Benue State.
“So, the committees are not necessarily composed of NJC members. But after the submission of reports, some of the judges will be invited for oral interactions if there is need for follow-up.”
The source added: “The NJC will meet before the end of April. By then, some of the ongoing investigations would have been concluded.”
Meanwhile, the CJN has shut her doors against politicians, traditional rulers and businessmen seeking audience with her.
Another reliable source said: “She does not entertain visitors in her house. Some politicians, high-ranking public officers, traditional rulers and businessmen have gone to her house, but she said her job does not allow such interaction.
“She is keeping strictly to her oath of office and code of conduct. This has created fears in some politicians and public officers. They have described her as ‘uncompromising.’ Her focus now is to rid the Judiciary of bad eggs.
“She is also determined to strengthen the NJC to play its role impartially and assert the independence of the judiciary.”
The NJC, under Justice Aloma Mariam Mukhtar at its emergency meeting on February 20, recommended the compulsory retirement of Justice C. E. Archibong of the Federal High Court Lagos and Justice T.D. Naron of High Court of Justice, Plateau State.
It also suspended two judges and raised a committee to investigate the allegations levelled against Hon. Justice Abubakar Talba of FCT High Court in the police pension case of EFCC vs Mr. John Yusuf & Ors.
Justice Archibong was recommended for compulsory retirement to President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, pursuant to the findings by the council on the following complaints levelled against him, including the dismissal of the grievous charges against an accused without taking his plea.
Justice T. D. Naron of High Court of Justice, Plateau State was recommended for compulsory retirement to Governor David Jonah Jang sequel to the findings by the council that there were constant and regular voice calls and exchange of mms and sms (text) messages between Hon. Justice Naron and one of the lead counsel for one of the parties to the suit in the Osun State Gubernatorial Election Tribunal contrary to the Code of Conduct for Judicial Officers of the Federal Republic of Nigeria vide Section 292 (1((b) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended.
The National Judicial Council is one of the federal executive bodies created by virtue of Section 153 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to insulate the judiciary from the whims and caprices of the executive.
According to sections 20, 21 and 22 of the Third Schedule of the 1999 Constitution, the National Judicial Council shall comprise the following members-

Football- Liga Muculmana Of Mozambique Humiliated Lobi Stars Of Nigeria 7-1 This Weekend To Reach The Last-16 Round Of The CAF Confederation Cup.

Maputo-based Muculmana qualified 8-4 on aggregate after losing the first leg 3-1 three weeks ago and are likely to face Wydad Casablanca of Morocco in the second round.
Former African champions Wydad take a 3-0 lead into the second leg against AS Douanes of Togo in Lome Sunday and the vastly experienced African campaigners are unlikely to crumble like Lobi.

FAR Rabat of Morocco forced a 1-1 draw at Al-Nasr of Libya and Etoile Sahel of Tunisia snatched a 3-2 victory at Onze Createurs of Mali to also secure places in the next round of the second-tier CAF club competition.

Lobi must have believed they were heading for the next round when Chimaobi Nwaogu scored midway through the opening half to cancel the away goal scored by the Mozambicans.

But a brace from Sonito and one from Josimar, who converted a stoppage-time penalty, gave Liga a 3-1 half-time advantage and the clubs were level on goal aggregate.

The second-half red carding of Stars goalkeeper John Lawrence swung the game decisively in favour of Muculmana with Sonito scoring another two goals and Josimar and Pelembe one each.

It was a record winning margin for a Mozambican club in the 10-year competition, eclipsing the 3-0 victory of Ferroviario Maputo over Kenyan visitors Gor Mahia last year.

Benghazi-based Al-Nasr wanted to celebrate the return of CAF club football to Libya by overcoming a 1-0 first leg loss to FAR, and hopes rose when Cameroonian Edet Otobong put them ahead on 71 minutes at the Martyrs of February Stadium.

But Youssef Kaddioui silenced the 10,000 crowd by equalising for FAR and the 2005 Confederation Cup winners advanced 2-1 on aggregate to a showdown with Azam of Tanzania or Barrack Young Controllers II of Liberia.

It was the first CAF club fixture staged in Libya since the popular uprising against Moamer Kadhafi forced clubs to play matches outside the country two years ago and they did not compete in Africa last year.

All but one of the five goals came from penalties as 2006 winners Etoile completed a double over Createurs having won 2-1 at home. Mossab Sassi (two) and Moussa Maazou scored for Etoile and Hamidou Sinayoko netted twice for Onze.

Ex-Militants From Niger-delta Protests Amnesty For Northern Militants.

MEND

EX-MILITANTS, yesterday, besieged the National Assembly demanding that the Federal Government include them in the amnesty programme or they would resume hostilities in the Niger Delta. The ex-militants in their hundreds, had arrived the fourth entry point of NASS as early as 6.30am chanting war songs, displaying placards depicting

This action was, however, in the full glare of Police backed by men of NSCDC and plain clothed officers of Department of State Security, DSS. The aggrieved ex-militants, under the aegis of Niger Delta Freedom Fighters, also barricaded the main gate to NASS.

Apparently unaware that the Federal Lawmakers are currently on Easter recess, the placard carrying ex-militants, led by 'General' Para Ekiyes, threatened to return to the creeks to resume hostilities, if the Federal Government failed to accede to their demand. Ekiyes, also known as 'General Gun Boat', said the group wanted the Federal Government to facilitate the immediate actualization of the third phase of the amnesty programme currently on going in the Niger Delta and which also accommodated them.

Lamenting their ordeal and what he called cavalier activities of members of the Task Force since the commencement of the phased programme under the supervision of Kingsley Kuku, Ekiyes said the group disarmed in 2011, and had since been waiting to no avail.

He said: "The Task Force on third phase amnesty has commenced work in Delta State since February 3, 2013 but none of us has been invited." The officials have refused to invite the group to participate and partake in the presidential amnesty programme. Ekiyes noted that the third phase of the programme had made provisions to accommodate only 3,642 of the about 5,600-strong ex militants belonging to the Niger Delta Freedom Fighters, yet none of them had been invited.

He said: "If the Federal Government fails to accede to our demand I and my men will go back to the creeks. The Nigerian government knows what the Niger Delta youths can do. The government knows what was happening before we disarmed, and since we disarmed they know what has been going on in the Niger Delta region.

"Even the number of crude oil per day is very stable, the menace of sea piracy has ceased and there is stability in the area. But if the government feels that we should continue, then we will go back."

It would be recalled that the Itsekiri youths were recently included in the Amnesty Programme after Itsekiri leaders presented a very conclusive evidence that the youths surrendered their arms before the Public Petitions Committee of the House of Representatives last year.

The youths, led then by a patron of the council, Dr. Lucky Akuaruese, were armed with a copy of their earlier petition, as well as a video showing clearly the affected youths surrendering their arms which included rocket launchers, AK 47s, Sub-Machine Guns, SMGs and several other automatic weapons, to buttress their claims.

Nationwide Strike Begins Next Week April 10 ,All Workers Asked To Stay Off Work Next Week- NLC

nlc-chairman

THE Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) on Thursday ordered Nigerian workers, particularly in Abuja and Lagos to stay off work on Wednesday next week in protest against the scam in the pension industry and the refusal of the government to resolve and find a lasting solution to the plights of Nigerian pensioners.
The congress gave the directive at a press conference held at the Labour House, Abuja, as it commenced mobilisation for the rally slated for that day in Abuja and all other state capitals across the federation.
Reading the text of the press conference, the Acting President of NLC, Comrade Promise Adewusi, said all members of organised labour, the NLC, TUC and their affiliates should stay off work on April 10, and join the rally to the Presidency in Abuja and state governors’ offices across the federation.
This, according to him is in solidarity with the pensioners, whose situation has become worst because of the government insensitivity to their plights over the years.
Comrade Adewusi addressed the press conference in company with the Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP) President, Comrade Ali Abatcha; the General Secretary of NLC, Comrade Chris Uyot (Acting); the NUP General Secretary, Comrade Actor Zal; NLC Head of Admin and Industrial Relation, Comrade Ema Ugboaja and the NLC head of Information, Comrade Benson Uppah.
The acting NLC President restated the resolve of the congress and its civil society allies to protest next Wednesday and physically take to the corridors of power in Abuja and across the states of the Federation the grievances of those who have served the country meritoriously in the past but are now suffering in their old age.
Comrade Adewusi said: “We have invited you here today not for lamentations but to restate our resolve to embark on a peaceful protest on Wednesday, April 10, 2013, except if before then, government considers it worthwhile to address the gross criminalities and inequalities in the pension fund administration in the country, particularly as they affect our members.
“The issues in a nutshell are the non-payment of outstanding arrears to scores of pensioners, non-enrolment of thousands of pensioners on the federal pension payroll, non-payment of death benefits to the deserving next of kin.”
Others, according to him, are non-implementation of payments to pensioners to reflect the 53.4 per cent salary review and payment of pension in line with relevant increases in the minimum wage to N18, 000; withholding of NUP statutory check-off dues for over a year, and the slow pace at which pension payment is being processed by the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation.
He called for immediate restoration of the withheld check-off dues to NUP and full implementation of the report of the Senate Joint Report on the pension scam, as well as accelerated payment of all arrears of pensions to the deserving pensioners.

Rihanna

The official trailer for Rihanna's 777 Tour documentary is out.  We've got it inside as a sneak peek of what to expect from the jet setting chick inside...
In case you missed Rihanna's 777 tour and for some reason want to see the show & behind the scenes footage of what you missed, you're in luck.
Fox just released the trailer for the upcoming trailer for Rih Rih's documentary that follows her 7 days, 7 countries mini tour that popped off late last year.
With her track "Right Now" blasting, the River Island designer is shown walking to her 777 Jet.  And the tagline "One woman takes on the world" pops up on the screen.
It's a build up to he glammed up confetti and champagne filled doc that's giving an inside look into how the big trip went down.  But there's no hint of the foolywangery that went down with the journalists and fans who were along for the ride.  People were giving play by plays last November how there was no sleep, no food, no time with Rih and no escape from the madness of the trip.  Some even called it a trip from hell.
But Rih maintained during an interview with UK's Radio 1 that the trip had its hiccups but she would def do it again:"It was different having to do your job but also have 200 guests come along with you," she said. "They all want you to host a party every time you get on the plane after a show but you really only have that time to sleep until you get to the next country ... Sometimes it was a two-hour ride to the next country and that was all the sleep you would get."

Janet Jackson Retires From Entertainment And Moves To The Middle East With Her Hubby. Will She Convert To Islam?

What in the total hell? Janet Jackson reportedly walked away from the entertainment industry...though none of her die-hard fans knew about it. Find out why Janet's said to have turned her back on the spotlight inside.....

As fans all around the world collectively clutch their pearls, reports are surfacing that you may NEVER see Janet Jackson's abs, boobs or Poetic Justice braids again. Apparently, after secretly marrying her hot billionaire husband, Wissam Al Mana, Ms. Jackson...if you're Nasty...made the made the decision to walk away from Hollywood. And now supposedly this chick went and converted to Islamic culture.

A source told Showbiz 411, “She’s gone. She married a billionaire. They’ve got houses in three countries. She’s spending time in the Middle East. She’s become a Muslim.”

If you think about it, it makes perfect sense that the True You author Janet, who's had her life in the hands of critics and gossip columnists since she was a kid, would opt for a quiet opulent life. And we can't even be mad about it...a sexy billionaire and your life becoming one big vacation away from the foolishness that sometimes overtakes this industry? Slightly jealous now that we think about it....

While Justin Timberlake is seeing the best sales of his career, it could be argued that America never really embraced Janet after the nipplegate debacle at Superbowl 2004. Her music career became a snooze fest, she had to downgrade her concert tours from arenas to concert halls and no one in Hollywood came calling (except Tyler Perry).

But it doesn't look like Janet is planning to go completely into hiding...at least not yet. From the looks of it, she'll remain dedicated to her causes, such as fundraising for AIDS research with amFAR. She recently tweeted about an auction for fans to spend time with her at the Cannes Film Festival in May to raise money for the foundation.
