Thursday June 16, 2011, the lay faithful, clergy, religious, friends and well-wishers  rolled out their drums in joyful celebration of their Chief Shepherd-the Metropolitan Archbishop of Lagos and highest ranking Catholic clergy in Nigeria; His Eminence, Anthony Cardinal Olubunmi Okogie who clocked 75 years on earth.
Masses were celebrated and intercessory prayers said at the various parishes in the Archdioceses.

High point of the day was High Mass celebrated at the Holy Cross Cathedral, Lagos. Afterwards, members of the Knights of St. Mulumba, in company with other Papal Knights, Medalists, priests and distinguished Catholics from all walks of life shall converged at the Holy Cross Church Hall for a reception in honour of the man of the moment, Anthony Cardinal Olubunmi Okogie.

A curious twist emerged Thursday night to the force headquarters blast, as top security sources hinted that police boss; Hafiz Ringim allegedly had a meeting at his Maitama residence, with the unidentified Boko Haram bomber, few minutes before the explosion.

Pointblanknews.com learnt that the police boss invited him to join his convoy to his office at the Force headquarters, Abuja, after a brief conversation at Ringim's residence.

President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan has urged all Nigerians to remain calm following yesterday’s bomb explosion that rocked the headquarters of the Nigeria Police Force in Abuja, assuring that he has been meeting with the heads of the nation’s security forces to ensure that such incidents become a thing of the past in the country.

He stated this today while addressing newsmen shortly after assessing the scene of the carnage and seeing things for himself inside the premises of the Police Force Headquarters in Abuja.

President Jonathan, who expressed sadness at the incident, also commiserated with families of the victims, saying he was optimistic that the nation would overcome the ugly trend.

Obasanjo Declares... Jonathan Can’t Fight Corruption.

Former president Olusegun Obasanjo yesterday said the current regime in Nigeria lacks the will and consistency to fight corruption because corrupt people are deeply entrenched in the system. Obasanjo, who was speaking yesterday in Geneva, Switzerland, did not mention President Goodluck Jonathan by name but said he has not seen the will and consistency required in the present government to tackle graft.

He spoke during a debate organised by the Club de Madrid on ‘Meeting Sustainable Societies and Social Justice’ in the on going 100th Session of the International Labour Organisation in Geneva, Switzerland.

Club de Madrid is an independent, non-profit organization composed of 80 former democratic presidents and prime ministers from 56 countries.

US Congressman Anthony Weiner Resigns After Tweeting His Erection Under His Panties.

Congressman Anthony Weiner has announced his resignation from Congress.

Embattled Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-N.Y.) announced at a press conference Thursday that he is resigning from Congress, making him the first congressman whose career was wrecked by indiscretions on Twitter.
Weiner, who mistakenly tweeted a photo of his underwear-clad erection last month and then lied to cover it up, had been under escalating pressure to quit as one embarrassing revelation after another came to light. The New York Times was first to report on Thursday that he had succumbed to that pressure.

"I am announcing my resignation from Congress so my colleagues can get back to work, my neighbors can choose a new representative and most importantly that my wife and I can continue to heal from the damage I have caused," Weiner said.

Among the many things yelled at the raucous event was this: "Are you more than 7 inches?" It is speculated that a Howard Stern employee said that. Someone even yelled "bye-bye pervert" at him.

A lunar eclipse occurs when the moon passes behind the earth so that the earth blocks the sun's rays from striking the moon. This can occur only when the Sun, Earth, and Moon are aligned exactly, or very closely so, with the Earth in the middle. Hence, there is always a full moon the night of a lunar eclipse. The type and length of an eclipse depend upon the Moon's location relative to its orbital nodes. The most recent total lunar eclipse occurred on December 21, 2010, at 08:17 UTC. The next total lunar eclipse on June 15, 2011 will be a central eclipse, visible over Europe and south America after sunset, over Africa and most of Asia, and Australia before sunrise.

The moon will rise in Earth's shadow this evening in a rare lunar eclipse that could turn our natural satellite a deep shade of red.

With clear skies, the celestial spectacle will be visible across the UK, with the exception of northern Scotland, as soon as the moon rises after sunset.
Moonrise time varies with location, but for observers in London, the show will begin at 9.13pm. Further north, in Glasgow, moonrise begins at 9.58pm.
A total lunar eclipse happens when the moon, Earth and sun line up, and our home planet casts a vast shadow that engulfs the moon.
When the moon moves into the darkest part of the Earth's shadow, the umbra, it will turn a slate grey or brick red colour.
The moon changes colour because blue light - and other short wavelengths - scatter more in the Earth's atmosphere, with more red light getting through.
The Royal Astronomical Society said the eclipse, if visible, could be a spectacular opportunity for photographers. The moon will remain low in the night sky, so observers will need a clear horizon and cloudless skies to see it well. Unlike solar eclipses, a lunar eclipse is safe to watch with the naked eye.
The event will be visible in Australasia, southern Japan, a large area of Asia, India, Africa, Europe and the eastern part of South America.
The total eclipse ends at 22.03pm, when the Moon starts to leave the darkest part of the umbra. At this time, the moon will be only five degrees above the south-eastern horizon from London, whilst in Glasgow the whole of the lunar disk will not yet have appeared and from northern Scotland it will not be visible at all.
In the final stage of the eclipse, the moon moves into the lighter part of Earth's shadow, the penumbra, and will likely take on a yellowish hue. The eclipse will be over just after midnight, at 00.02am Thursday morning.
