Shocking Revelations From Borno Senators On The Abducted Chibok Girls,How Military ,President Jonathan Failed To Act On Intelligence Reports Provided By Them.

Senators from Nigeria’s terrorist-torn Borno State yesterday opened a can of worms, painting a clear picture of how the country’s military and the Jonathan administration have woefully failed to act on intelligence reports that could have led to the rescue of the over 200 innocent girls abducted over two weeks ago from Government Girls Secondary School, Chibok.Senators Ahmed Zannah (Borno Central) and Ali Ndume (Borno South) gave the heart-rending expose while contributing to a motion entitled “Abduction of School girls in Chibok, Borno State” sponsored by Senate Leader Victor Ndoma-Egba and 107 others.Below are their exact words:Senator Ahmed Zannah (Borno Central): “Since the beginning of this siege, I kept mute on this issue as far as press releases and press interviews are concerned. “I have been constantly in touch with the security agencies, telling them the developments, the movement of the girls from one place to the other and then the splitting of the girls and eventually the marriage of these girls by the insurgents. “What bothers me most is that whenever I inform where these are, after two to three days, they will be moved from that place to another and still, I will go back and inform them that see, this is what is happening. “I lost hope two days ago when I found out that some of them were moved to Chad and Cameroon.“Actually, some of them move through the Mandara mountain that is in Gwoza and some of them are just a stone throw from their barracks, even now as I am talking to you, in Cameroon because it is in Kolofata, which is in Cameroon about 15 kilometres or even less to the borders because one of the insurgents called somebody in Bama and said: ‘I just got married and I am now settling in Kolofata’. “Then three or four days ago, some Fulani men reported that they saw some girls being taken by boats into the Island in Lake Chad and that some of them happened to be between Marte and Mungonu.“Maybe, those ones might still be within Nigeria, but that is the current and new base of the insurgents. They just took over that place less than a week and that village is called Chikungudua. The place is the constituency of Senator Maina Mai’ji Lawan. “But I informed the security agents about the situation and from that place, they can just go into the lake and go to either Chad or Cameroon because it is very open, there are no weeds in the lake and so they can go anywhere. “They have snatched all the boats around that area, including the one for NNPC, and so they are free to go anywhere without being chased by anybody. “There are about 40 islands there and they have ejected most of the occupants of the islands and they have occupied the islands. “What is most disturbing is that hitherto, Sambisa was their base and is well known to the military and Nigerian security.“Even before then, I had been discussing with the military and they said they were going to attack that place, about 15 or 20 days ago, I don’t know what delayed them. “But, eventually when they launched the attack, all the insurgents had already gone out of the place. So, I don’t know what is happening. “Even before then, I even told them about the shrubs in Northern Borno where they stayed last year till after the rainy season. “Since rainy season is approaching, I told them that these people will leave Sambisa and other areas and go to that shrub but it seems there is no much presence of military around that area up till now and they are now much moving into those shrubs.“And when they go in, the shrub has some canopy whereby the ground is empty and you cannot see any human or animal movement under that canopy even with aircraft. “It is the same place where they hid last year and came out after the rainy season without any challenge; they came into the hinterland.“I don’t know if the military can take very serious and willing action in this matter but if there is no way to fight them, I think we are wasting our time. It all depends on their willingness. “I was interviewed by the press on whether if the state of emergency was extended, the military would succeed and I said ‘yes, if there was willingness, they will’.“Their number is not all that much as being touted and without cooperation from certain group of people within the security agencies, there is no way these people will survive like this. “But when we talk, they will say we are against them; we are exposing them; we are demoralising their troops. These are the facts. “So, unless there is spirit of seriousness on the part of our military, we have no hope of getting those girls; even if we are going to get them, we are going to get them in trickles; maybe getting two, three, four, and five. They are now scattered. So it is not possible for us to get 50, 60, 100 in one particular position. This is the position as at today.”Senator Ali Ndume (Borno South): “The 53 girls we have were those that escaped. We have to speak the truth. “I am a little bit emotional because you cannot understand what we are going through until you visit these areas. The only place there is relative peace is where there are civilian JTF. “The military deployed there are doing their best, but I cannot ask any of them to do more than what they are doing. You need to see their equipment and there is no motivation. “Whenever we go there, we buy food. As days go by, most of these girls are divided and forcefully married out. How they do that and where they passed remain a mystery.“I appreciate the motion but there is no action. We speak to commanders on ground and their complaints are the same: no motivation.“Their number is few and there is no equipment to match their opponents. Every time we budget trillions of naira for defence but I have not seen any new equipment on ground. The armoured vehicles are those of 1950s.”

Femi Falana Calls For The Disbandment Of FirstLady's Panel On Chibok Missing Girls.

“But the First Lady has no power whatsoever to institute a panel to investigate any matter in any part of Nigeria.”

According to Premium Times, A human rights lawyer, Femi Falana, has called for the disbandment of a panel of inquiry into the missing school girls in Chibok, describing it as illegal and unconstitutional.

In a statement, Thursday, Mr. Falana said that Patience Jonathan, the First Lady, has “no .power whatsoever to institute a panel to investigate any matter in any part of Nigeria.”

Last Saturday, President Goodluck Jonathan announced the setting up of a 26-member Committee to probe the abduction of over 200 female students of the Government College, Chibok, Borno State.

The next day, Mrs. Jonathan, convened a meeting to set up a separate committee that would include wives of relevant stakeholders, security officials and others to seek the whereabouts of the kidnapped girls.

In his reaction, Mr. Falana, who participated in one of the #BringBackOurGirls protest, said though the committee set up by the president could be explained, that by Mrs. Jonathan is illegal.

“In Fawehinmi v. Babangida (2003) 3 NWLR (PT 808) 604 the Supreme Court held that the power of the President to set up a Commission of Inquiry is limited to the Federal Capital Territory by virtue of the Tribunal of Inquiry Act (CAP T21 ) Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004,” Mr. Falana, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, said.

“Therefore, the Committee set up by the President and inaugurated on Tuesday, May 6, 2014 to probe the abduction of the girls is best a ministerial act.

“But the First Lady has no power whatsoever to institute a panel to investigate any matter in any part of Nigeria. To that extent, the panel of inquiry alleged to have been set up by the First Lady is illegal, unconstitutional, null and void.

“It should be disbanded without any further delay. President Goodluck Jonathan should ensure that the abduction of the innocent girls is not further trivialized in the interest of our collective sensibility and public morality,” Mr. Falana said.

Mr. Falana also condemned claims by some political leaders that no girl had been abducted, despite the inauguration of the Presidential Committee to investigate the abduction and the publication of the names of about 185 of the missing girls by the Christian Association of Nigeria.

“Such level of insensitivity is being displayed by highly placed persons at a time that the Boko Haram leader, Abubakar Shekau has admitted that the criminal sect abducted the innocent girls and threatened that they would be sold into slavery,” said Mr. Falana.

“Are we to believe that the Borno State Government and the Boko Haram sect conspired with the parents of the missing girls to embarrass the Goodluck Jonathan Administration?

“Why has the Federal Government accepted the offer of the United States’ Government to join in the frivolous search for the girls since they are no longer missing? No doubt, the incendiary statements credited to certain people to the effect that ‘no child is missing’ must have accentuated the agony of the parents of the abducted some of whom had taken part in street demonstrations to demand ‘Bring Back Our Girls.’”

How Borno State Officials Were Chastised And Reduced To Nothing At The Villa.

Residents and some government officials in Maiduguri have expressed dismay over alleged “ill treatment” of Borno State officials at the Presidency in Abuja during interrogation over the abduction 267 girls at secondary school in Chibok over three weeks ago.A Protest Letter signed by Mohammed Bashir Shuwa, the Senior Special Assistant to Governor Kashim Shettima on ICT
Alhaji Aliyu Biu, made available to newsmen says they have reservations over the “degrading manner in which Borno state government officials were chastised and reduced to nothing by the presidency.”Dame Patience Jonathan. It would be recalled that last Friday, 2nd May, 2014, President Jonathan had invited some government officials to the presidency, Governor Shettima, the state commissioner of Education Alhaji Inuwa Kubo, some security officials, the Principal of Government Girls Secondary School Chibok, the Chairman Chibok Local Government Council and the Divisional Police Officer of Chibok as well as the Chief Security Officer of the school.According to the protest letter, “Upon their arrival at the presidential villa on Saturday May, 3rd 2014, President Goodluck Jonathan personally interrogated these key officials from9pm to 2 am as if all the official information relayed to him by his security apparatus in Borno were meaningless, unreliable and suspicious. At the end of the interrogation, President Goodluck Jonathan (with the exception of Shettima) handed over these officials to the Inspector General of Police with the clear instructions to do his job. These officials were driven to the Force Headquarters where they were detained and made to make written statements on how the girls were abducted and later released on bail on self recognition as if they were directly or indirectly responsible for the abduction of there own children.“The following Sunday May, 5th, 2014 they were again taken to the Villa at 5pm for further interrogation and this time by the First Lady Dame Patience Jonathan. While at the Villa, they remained standing for four hours after which they were ushered in into the First Lady’s chambers where they were treated to verbal assaults as to the veracity of their claims on how the school girls were abducted to the admiration of her cheer leaders including the President of Market Women Association and Ms Onyeka Onwenu as well as some members of thenorthern governors wives association present.“One would have expected that the first lady would have sympathized with these government officials for the traumatic event they went through but unfortunately they were subjected to all sorts of embarrassing humiliation.“The sum total of the First Lady’s vituperation appeared to be directed toward negativity and substituting facts with fictions in order to give a dog a bad name in order to hang it. Also attempts made to play on religious sentiments failed woefully having realized that the girls abducted came from various religious groups.“As if that was not enough the first lady made a number of threatening remarks including the order to security officials to arrest some women protesters and shouting down on the state Director of State Security Service and other officials whom she allegedly libeled as Boko Haram sympathizers. She also ordered all the officials to resign their appointments forthwith on their return to their respective duty posts.“This is highly unfortunate and totally unacceptable because the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended) has not mentioned or given any clearly defined responsibility, role or power to first ladies to issue such directives or exercise the powers of the state chief executive directly or indirectly or otherwise. The first ladies are enjoying the current privileges courtesy of their husband’s position.“This official highhandedness exhibited by Dame Patience Jonathan is primitive and unconstitutional and therefore totally unacceptable. Similarly the president also need to clarify the grounds on which heordered for the detention and interrogation of the key government officials from Borno State who were equally victims of the insurgency in Borno State.“In view of the foregoing we call on the International Community to ask President Goodluck Jonathan to explain to the world why he appeared to have doubts as the security information sent to him by his own security apparatus and decided to descend on Borno State Government Officials. If he has any doubt on such reports are the Borno State Government Officials who did not write  these official security reports going to be held responsible and askeld to clarify what they have not written and reported? To us the sum total action of the presidency tantamount to blaming the victim, hence the purpose of our protest,” the letter said.

Outrageous! Saudi Court Sentences Blogger To 10 Years In Prison,100 Lashes And Fined Him £133,000 For Insulting Islam.

A Saudi blogger is facing ten years in prison ,a thousand lashes and a million riyal fine for 'insulting Islam'.Raif Badawi originally faced seven years jail and 600 lashes, but an appeal court overturned that sentence and ordered a retrial.Amnesty International has called the new sentence 'outrageous' and says Badawi is a 'prisoner of conscience'. His website has been closed since his first trial.Badawi was arrested in June 2012 and charged with cyber crime and disobeying his father - a crime in Saudi Arabia - in relation to his Saudi Liberal Network website..The site included articles that were critical of senior religious figures such as Saudi Arabia's Grand Mufti, according to Human Rights Watch. The prosecution had demanded that Badawi be tried for apostasy, a crime which carries the death penalty in Saudi Arabia, but his original trial judge dismissed that charge.Badawi's lawyers have slammed yesterday's sentence as too harsh, althought the prosecutor had asked for a harsher penalty, according to news website Sabq. The ruling is subject to appeal but, after his last appeal led to a stiffer penalty, and with his original lawyer, human rights activist Waleed Abu al-Khair, currently held in Riyadh's Malaz Prison on charges including 'breaking allegiance with the king', Badawi may think twice about challenging the latest ruling.Khair was detained incommunicado in April after appearing in court in Riyadh on sedition charges, according to his wife.
North Africa programme at Amnesty International, urged Saudi authorities to quash Badawi's conviction.'The decision to sentence Raif Badawi to 10 years in prison and 1,000 lashes is outrageous,' he said.

For People From The 3 Geo-political Zones In The South,Its All About President Jonathan's Re-election Bid.

STATESMEN, prominent leaders of the three geo-political zones of the Southern part of the country, under the aegis of Southern Nigeria Peoples Assembly, SNPA, rose from a meeting yesterday, with a strong condemnation of insurgency in some parts of the country, warning that it would not be ruled by a government that would be a product of insurgency or blackmail against President Goodluck Jonathan.According to the group, no amount of intimidation by the insurgents and their sponsors would force President Jonathan to abdicate the powers given to him or refuse to seek re-election.The leaders, who called on President  Jonathan to urgently close the borders with neighbouring states, warned: “Let it be known that the people of Southern Nigeria shall not allow themselves to be ruled by any government that is a product of insurgency or blackmail if the sponsors of insurgency in this country think they can brow-beat and pummel the government of President Goodluck Jonathan to abdicate the authority and mandate freely given to him by Nigerians to rule this country.”The meeting, which took place Tuesday night in Abuja, had former Vice President Alex Ekwueme, former Federal Commissioner for Information and South South leader, Chief Edwin Clark, and Retired Bishop of the Anglican Communion, Akure Diocese, Bishop Bolanle Gbonigi, as co- leaders. While Chief Edwin Clark served as host chairman, Dr. Ekwueme was represented by Dr. Dozie Ikedife. In a communique signed by Clark, Gbonigi and Ikedife, the SNPA, with members drawn from the South South, South East and South West geo- political zones, declared its unflinching support for President Jonathan on his resolve to employ all means and power at his disposal to stop Boko Haram insurgency. It stressed that the closure of the borders would forestall the continuous infiltration of Nigeria by mercenaries. The leaders resolved to meet with the leadership from the North to cross-fertilise ideas and urged the governor of Borno State, Kassim Shettima, local government chairmen in the state, traditional rulers, prominent citizens and the security agencies in the state to take full responsibility for the rescue of the over 225 abducted girls. The communique said: “We declare our unequivocal and unflinching solidarity with President Goodluck Jonathan on his declared resolve to employ all means and power at his disposal to bring the Boko  Haram insurgency to an end.”Sent from Samsung Mobile

Abuja Socialite Dr (mrs) Imaobong Akon Esu-Nte ,Arrested By EFCC.

According to Sahara Reporters,The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested a popular Abuja socialite who is also a top official of the Nigerian Prisons Service, Dr (Mrs)

Imaobong Akon Esu-Nte. The suspect, a Grade Level 14 Officer with the Federal Ministry of Finance seconded to the Nigerian Prison Service as Head, Capital Accounts, was picked up Tuesday May 6 by operatives of the anti graft agency. And for several hours, she was grilled by investigators over allegations bordering on corruption, abuse of office and money laundering.

EFCC officials said they received tip-off regarding the  suspect’s lifestyle  which was inconsistent with her position as a public servant on a monthly salary of N121, 460 ($751).

The suspect owns several exotic cars and properties scattered over the (Federal Capital Territory) Abuja. Among her properties is a palatial mansion, a duplex with two-bedroom Boys Quarters at Sun City Estate, Abuja and another duplex at Karu Extension, Abuja, which is nearing completion.

Three luxury automobiles were recovered from her at the time of arrest. They include a Mercedes Benz ML 350 4matic wagon, Mercedes Benz GL 500 SUV and a Toyota Sienna.

EFCC sources said Imaobong's arrest was triggered by intelligence report on suspicious inflow of huge funds into her account with a new generation bank.

Close scrutiny of the account by investigators literally opened a can of worms, as it came to light that the suspect is the promoter and signatory to the accounts of three companies: Abasiaga Global Resources Limited, Abasiono Nigeria Limited and Ememima Global Ventures Limited, the companies were established after she was posted to the Nigerian Prison Service and all the directors are her children (Dr. Etsu Daniel, Eme Faith and Uwen David).

She is also the owner of two other companies- Darima Properties and ID Petroleum

Sources revealed that several cash and cheque deposit into the accounts of these companies and the personal account of Imaobong in Zenith and Access bank could not be justified. The accounts of her companies are said to have recorded an inflow of not less than N200million between 2009 and now.

Another startling discovery by investigators for which the suspect has failed to provide an explanation, is the nearly N60million she paid in various tranches into the account of Redeem Christian Church of God, a prominent pentecostal church in Karu, a suburb of Abuja. ‘There are instances in which she paid N5m, N7m and N6m into the church’s account. Obviously this cannot be tithe an EFCC investigator told SaharaReporters.

She must explain the source of the funds and the purpose for which the payments were made”, one of the investigators who pleaded not to be named because he was not authorized to speak on the matter said.

Equally shocking, is the discovery of five names that consistently (on monthly basis) paid money into the private accounts of Imaobong at Zenith and Access bank since she arrived at the Nigerian Prisons Service as Head, Capital Accounts.

At press time, the socialite was still facing interrogators, unable to explain her sudden wealth. Sources informed SaharaReporters that she told her interrogators that she made her money doing contracts, contrary to provisions of the public service rule that forbids a serving officer to establish companies or prospect for contracts.

Spokesman of the EFCC, Wilson Uwujaren while confirming the arrest warned public officers engaged in corrupt practices to desist or risk the wrath of the law. He said the agency was determined to ensure that officers who abuse their positions for self enrichment are brought to book.

He equally pleaded with the members of the public to stop celebrating corruption by asking questions when it is obvious that the lifestyle of certain persons can not be supported by their known sources of income.

Abubakar Shekau: Who Is this Leader of Boko Haram?

Nigeria's Boko Haram Threatens to Sell Kidnapped GirlsThe video is grainy. The man speaking is brash, almost laughing at points. But his message is chilling: “I abducted your girls. … By Allah, I will sell them in the marketplace.”With that, Abubakar Shekau, the leader of Boko Haram, finally confirmed this week that the militant Islamic group was responsible for kidnapping nearly 300 schoolgirls in northern Nigeria on April 14.Little is known about Shekau. He may be in his mid 30s or as old as his mid 40s. He rarely speaks directly to Boko Haram members, choosing to communicate with only a few select cell leaders in the group. He was thought to have been killed at least twice, only to reappear later, including in 2010 when he announced he was the new leader of Boko Haram. He hasn’t been seen in public since 2009 and makes most of his pronouncements through online
videos. But among the things most media reports agree on is that Shekau is ruthless and adheres to a radical ideology.'I enjoy killing'After a January 2012 attack by Boko Haram left more than 180 people dead in Kano, northern Nigeria’s largest city, Shekau was quoted as saying, "I enjoy killing anyone that God commands me to kill - the way I enjoy killing chickens and rams.”"He is the leader of the more militant wing of the group as testified by his aping of Osama bin Laden in his video appearances," said Abubakar Mu'azu, a faculty member in mass communication at the University of Maiduguri in a profile of Shekau from the BBC.Maiduguri, the capital of Borno state in northern Nigeria, is the headquarters for Boko Haram.According to a CNN profile of Shekau, he uses Islam to recruit and radicalize his followers.“The northeast, where Boko Haram has been most active, is economically depressed and among the least educated regions in Nigeria. Shekau has done a good job of convincing residents that the powers in Abuja are corrupt and a better system of government would be a strict enforcement of Islamic Sharia law across Nigeria. And his promise, coupled with a weapon and a license to plunder, has been enticing to hundreds of young men,” CNN reported.Shekau is well-known to U.S. terrorism officials. In June 2013, the United Statesposted a reward of up to $7 million for information leading to his location. He speaks several languages fluently, including Hausa, Fulani, Kanuri and Arabic. One language he does not speak is English, said Ahmad Salkida, a Nigerian journalist with access to Boko Haram who was quoted by the BBC. The name of the group translates to “Western education is sinful.”Human Rights Watch reported that Boko Haram, since its founding in 2002, has employed rape, murder, kidnapping, suicide bombings and more in its efforts to wipe out Western influence in Nigeria.Violence has escalatedBut an article on New York Magazine’s website said the worst of the violence has come since 2009, when Shekau became leader."Why is he so violent? I think because Shekau was almost killed," said Martin Ewi, a senior researcher at the Institute for Security Studies in the New York Magazine article. "Imagine coming back from the dead. He knows he doesn't have a second chance if he's caught by the security forces. He was in the mouth of the crocodile, now he's coming back to kill the crocodile."Nigeria's mainstream Muslim clerics do not regard Shekau as a scholar and they question his understanding of Islam, the BBC reported, adding that they regularly condemn the bombings and drive-by shootings committed by his followers against anyone who disagrees with them.

He told the Prime Minister that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will liaise with the British Government through its High Commission in Nigeria to work out practical details of the promised support and collaboration against terrorism.
The Peoples’ Republic of China has also offered to assist in the effort to rescue the abducted girls.

In talks with President Jonathan earlier today, Premier Li Keqiang promised that his country will make any useful information acquired by its satellites and intelligence services available to Nigeria’s security agencies.

Mr. Keqiang assured the President that China will support Nigeria’s fight against terrorism in every possible way, including the training of military personnel for anti-insurgency operations.

Britain Joins Search For Missing Chibok Girls.

Britain has promised to send a small team of experts to Nigeria to help respond to the kidnap of more than 200 girls, a Downing Street spokesman said Wednesday. The team will concentrate on planning, coordination and advice to local authorities rather than operations on the ground to look for the girls, who were seized by the Islamist militant group Boko Haram on April 14.The team will fly to Nigeria “as soon as possible”, Prime Minister David Cameron’s spokesman.Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan accepted the offer when the two leaders spoke by telephone earlier Wednesday. The experts will be drawn from government departments including the defence, international development and foreign affairs ministries and may include military officers.US President Barack Obama has sent military experts to Nigeria to help in the search and the British team will complement their efforts.Cameron’s spokesman could not say how large the team would be.In his phone call with Jonathan, Cameron expressed his “shock at the appalling attack and wholehearted support for the Nigerian people”, a Downing Street spokeswoman said.“Both leaders also agreed that their respective governments should explore how to further strengthen co-operation on counter-terrorism in the longer term to prevent such attacks in the future,” she added.“The prime minister and president agreed on the importance of the international community working together to meet the challenge posed by Islamic extremism and violence.”Speaking in parliament earlier, Cameron condemned the kidnapping as “an act of pure evil”.“It has united people across the planet to stand with Nigeria to help find these children and return them to their parents,” he told lawmakers.Cameron said Britain had made “repeated offers of help” since the kidnap.“This is not just a Nigerian issue; it is a global issue,” he added.“There are extreme Islamists around our world who are against education, against progress, against equality and we must fight them and take them on wherever they are.

Another Deadly Attack: Boko Haram Kills 300, Abducts 11 More Girls In Borno.

Members of the terrorist Islamic sect, Boko Haram, on Monday night killed about 300 people in Gamboru Ngala, Borno State. Gamboru Ngala is a border town with Cameroon. The Boko Haram insurgents also abducted 11 more girls in Warabe and Wala communities in the Chibok Local Government Area of Borno State late on Monday. The insurgents reportedly drove into Gamboru Ngala in armoured vehicles. It was learnt that the insurgents, who seemed to have targeted a local market, shot sporadically at traders at the market before proceeding into the town to wreak more havoc.Gamboru is situated along Nigeria-Cameroon border and is the administrative headquarters of the Ngala Local Government Area of Borno State. It is about 200 kilometres  from Maiduguri, the state capital city.Senator Ahmed Zannah, who is representing the area in the Senate, confirmed the killings. He said the invaders spent about 12 hours wreaking havoc on defenceless Nigerians. He revealed that several other persons were injured in the attack, while almost all the houses and shops in the town were burnt down. The senator, who spoke in a BBC Hausa report monitored in Maiduguri on Tuesday, said many people were wounded, while surviving victims rendered homeless as thousands of houses and shops were burnt by the rampaging gunmen. He claimed that the attackers were armed with dangerous weapons comprising Armoured Personnel Carrier, Improvised Explosive Devices, petrol bombs, assault rifles and Rocket Propelled Launchers.“The attackers stormed the communities in the night when residents were still sleeping, setting ablaze houses and shooting residents who tried to escape from the fire,’’ he said.He added, “About 300 persons were confirmed dead after the incident, with several others injured. Almost all the houses in the communities were destroyed by the hoodlums who threw IEDs at the buildings.“My brother who was at the scene of the attack told me that the actual number of the dead cannot be ascertained but at least they are up to 300. In fact, as he spoke he wept following the high number of the dead bodies which littered the market.”According to him, the security forces earlier deployed in the area, had moved to the Lake Chad axis when they received intelligence report that some gunmen were sighted with abducted schoolgirls moving to the area.“It was just an hour after their withdrawal that the terrorists invaded the town, shooting everyone at sight and setting buildings on fire. So far 200 vehicles and thousands of houses, shops and an outfit of the Nigerian Customs Service, (NCS) were all burnt”, he explained.A local government official who declined identification also confirmed the casualty figure.“It is really a terrible situation, we had wanted to rush relief materials to the area to provide temporary succour to the victims. But we were prevailed upon by security agents to shelve our plans for security reasons,” the official said.More girls seizedThe 11 girls were reportedly seized  in Warabe and Wala when gunmen invaded the communities.Warabe is about 160 kilometres away from Maiduguri, the state capital. The community is located on the outskirts of Gwoza town, which had witnessed a series of deadly attacks by suspected terrorists in recent times.Police sources and residents confirmed the kidnapping of the girls, said to be aged between 12 and 15.A resident of Warabe, who said he had since relocated to Gwoza, Ishaku Bremcha, said through the phone on Tuesday, “There was a twin ambush by gunmen last night along Guduf-Gava route of Gwoza Hills. The gunmen came through the settlements of Hwa’a, Chikedeh, and Guduf-Wala hills down to Wala Kasa, and proceeded to Dure village, west of Gwoza town with 11 abducted teenagers into Sambisa Forest last night.“The abductors did not inflict injury or kill any of us in Warabe and Wala, but took away 11 of our young daughters into the forest, after warning us not to report the kidnappings.”The Borno State Commissioner of Police, Tanko Lawal, could not be reached for confirmation because GSM lines to Maiduguri were inaccessible. But a top police officer, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said some armed hoodlums attacked two villages in the Gwoza council area “and abducted about a dozen teenagers.”A resident of Warabe, Mallam Bello Umar, who spoke to journalists in Maiduguri,  said, “A group of terrorists invaded Warabe village on Sunday night, abducted 11 of our teenage girls and carted them away with our foodstuffs and livestock.“As I am talking to you now, I have run to Gwoza Council headquarters, and even in Gwoza, we cannot move around easily due to the fear of the terrorists.“The situation is so pathetic that almost everyone in Gwoza congregates at a safer zone close to the council secretariat where there is enough presence of security personnel.”Umar said the gunmen, numbering over 20 and armed with AK-47 rifles, stormed the village but that they did not kill anybody.“They simply abducted the 11 teenage girls before fleeing towards the hilly border areas between Gwoza and Cameroon Republic,” he added.Reuters also quoted another resident of Warabe, Lazarus Musa, as saying on Tuesday that gunmen invaded the village and abducted the girls.“They were many, and all of them carried guns. They came in two vehicles painted in army colour. They started shooting in our village,” Musa reportedly said.A police source, who could not be named, also said the Warabe girls were taken away in trucks, along with looted livestock and food.UN warns ShekauThe seizure of the 11 girls came as the world body, the United Nations, warned the Boko Haram leader, Abubakar Shekau, against selling the about 200 girls kidnapped from the Government Secondary School, Chibok, Borno State.Shekau on Monday released a video in which he claimed that the girls, abducted from their hostels on April 14, were in his custody and threatened to sell them because he believed the pupils should not be in school but in their husbands’ houses. The UN, according to a report by Reuters, warned Boko Haram that selling the girls would be tantamount to slavery, a practice prohibited by international law.The UN human rights spokesman, Rupert Colville, at a news briefing in Geneva, said, “We warn the perpetrators that there is an absolute prohibition against slavery and sexual slavery in international law. These can under certain circumstances constitute crimes against humanity.“That means anyone responsible can be arrested, charged, prosecuted and jailed at any time in the future. So just because they think they are safe now, they won’t necessarily be in two years, five years or 10 years’ time.”Any buyer could also be held liable, Colville said, noting that enslaved girls were likely to be exposed to “continuous physical, psychological, economic and sexual violence” and that forced marriage could have a “devastating” impact on victims.“The power differentials between girls and their ‘spouses’ are likely to undermine all autonomy, all freedom of will and expression of the girls. The situation they will be in will be tantamount to slavery, or slavery-like practices within the so-called marriage,” he said. The UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Navi Pillay, had written to President Goodluck Jonathan on April 28, urging him to spare no effort to ensure the girls’ safe return.Any rescue attempt must be made in line with international human rights standards, Colville said, noting previous “allegations of excessive use of force by the Nigerian military in anti-Boko Haram operations.”The girls were picked from their school by insurgents dressed in army uniform and drove trucks painted in military colour. Jonathan accepts US military offerThe Presidency, meanwhile, said on  Tuesday that President Goodluck Jonathan had accepted an offer made by the US President Barack Obama to deploy American security experts and equipment in Nigeria to assist in locating the schoolgirls abducted from Government Secondary School, Chibok, Borno State, on April 14.Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Dr. Reuben Abati, said this in a statement on Tuesday.Abati said the offer of assistance was conveyed to Jonathan by the US Secretary of State, John Kerry, in a telephone conversation he initiated on behalf of Obama. He said shortly after the telephone conversation, the President also met with security chiefs in continuation of efforts aimed at rescuing the schoolgirls.Abati said the President approved some of the recommendations made during the meeting for further actions. The statement read, “President Goodluck Jonathan Tuesday welcomed and accepted a definite offer of help from the United States of America in the ongoing effort to locate and rescue the girls abducted from the Government Secondary School, Chibok three weeks ago.“The offer from President Barack Obama, which was conveyed to President Jonathan by the United States Secretary of State, Mr. John Kerry, in a telephone conversation which began at 15.30 hours today, includes the deployment of U.S. security personnel and assets to work with their Nigerian counterparts in the search and rescue operation.“Mr. Kerry assured President Jonathan that the United States is wholly committed to giving Nigeria all required support and assistance to save the abducted girls and bring the reign of terror unleashed on parts of the country by Boko Haram to an end.“Thanking Mr. Kerry for the call and offer of further assistance, President Jonathan told him that Nigeria’s security agencies who were already working at full capacity to find and rescue the abducted girls would appreciate the deployment of American counter-insurgency know-how and expertise in support of their efforts.“After speaking with the United States Secretary of State, President Jonathan today met with the Chief of Defence Staff, Service Chiefs and heads of national security agencies in continuation of the national efforts to find and rescue the abducted girls.“The President received updates on the ongoing search and rescue effort, and gave approval for recommended further actions.”‘FG’ll find the missing girls’The President however also said on Tuesday that the abducted Chibok schoolgirls would be rescued and reunited with their parents.Jonathan, who spoke while inaugurating a presidential committee on the rescue of the abducted Chibok students at the Presidential Villa, said the Federal Government would do everything to rescue the girls. The committee is chaired by Brig.-Gen. Ibrahim Sabo.Curiously, the President’s wife, Patience, had declared on Monday that “no girl is missing” and that if the girls were missing at all the Governor of Borno State, Kassim Shetima, should search for them. The President said, “I am appreciative of the fact that this sad incident has attracted global outrage. This is a clear testimony to the fact that humanity can come together and stand as one against evil, no matter how it is presented.“This is the time when we must bond together beyond all political, religious or regional divide against our common enemy. We must remain vigilant and be ready to assist security agencies and authorities at all time.“We must keep supporting the families who for seeking education for their daughters are undergoing untold pains at this moment.“Let me assure the families and our dear daughters that in conjunction with international community, government will do everything possible to get our girls back.”The President clarified that the committee was neither a judicial committee nor an administrative panel.Meanwhile, representatives of the Borno State Government and the UN were absent from the inauguration. While the state government was asked to nominate two representatives, preferably women, the UN was asked to nominate one representative. The committee’s terms of reference include: to liaise with the Borno State Government and establish the circumstances leading to the school remaining open for boarding students when other schools were closed; to liaise with relevant authorities and the parents of the missing girls to establish the actual number and identities of the girls abducted; and to interface with the Security Services and Borno State Government to ascertain how many of the missing girls have returned;Others are to mobilise the surrounding communities and the general public on citizen support for a rescue strategy and operation; to articulate a framework for a multi-stakeholder action for the rescue of the missing girls; and to advise the Federal Government on any matter incidental to the terms of reference. North-East leaders at the Villa.
Meanwhile, some elders from the North-East part of the country, led by a former Minister of Finance, Mallam Adamu Ciroma, met behind closed doors with the President on Tuesday in continuation of efforts to end insurgency in the zone.Three states of the zone, Adamawa, Borno and Yobe are currently under emergency rule, declared by Jonathan in May 2013, following escalating violence. Those who attended the meeting did not speak with journalists at the end of the consultation that lasted for about two hours. On the delegation were Prof. Jubril Aminu, Alhaji Shettima Mustapha, Ambassador Babangana Kingibe, Alhaji Ibrahim Bunu, Alhaji Khalifa Yusuf and Alhaji Muhammed Kirfi, among others.

President Obama Describes Kidnapping Of Over 200 Girls In Chibok As Heartbreaking And Outrageous.

President Barack Obama on Tuesday described the kidnapping of more than 220 schoolgirls by Islamists in Nigeria as “heartbreaking” and “outrageous” as Washington deployed military experts in the hunt for the children.Obama urged global action against Boko Haram and confirmed Nigerian leaders had accepted an offer to deploy US personnel there, soon after residents said the extremist group had seized eight more girls, aged between 12 and 15, again in the embattled northeast. The first group of girls were taken three weeks ago, and concerns have been mounting about their fate after Boko Haram chief Abubakar Shekau claimed responsibility, saying his group was holding the schoolgirls as “slaves” and threatening to “sell them in the market”.US President Barack Obama: rallies world for action against Boko HaramSpeaking to US broadcaster ABC, Obama said: “It’s a heartbreaking situation, outrageous situation.”“This may be the event that helps to mobilize the entire international community to finally do something against this horrendous organization that’s perpetrated such a terrible crime,” he added. The team sent to Nigeria consists of “military, law enforcement, and other agencies”, Obama said, and will work to “identify where in fact these girls might be and provide them help”.He denounced Boko Haram as “one of the worst regional or local terrorist organizations”.US officials have voiced fears that the more than 220 girls, aged between 16 and 18, have already been smuggled into neighbouring countries, such as Chad and Cameroon. The governments of both denied the girls were in their countries.Their fate has sparked global outrage and may constitute a crime against humanity according to the UN.- ‘Heinous people’ -Shekau said his extreme Islamist group was holding the schoolgirls abducted on April 14 in the northeastern town of Chibok as “slaves” and threatened to “sell them in the market”, in a video obtained by AFP on Monday.Parents of those taken said Shekau’s video had made an already horrifying situation even worse.“All along, we have been imagining what could happen to our daughters in the hands of these heinous people,” one mother, Lawal Zanna, told AFP by phone from Chibok. The latest kidnappings also took place in Borno state, a stronghold of the Islamist group.Abdullahi Sani, a resident of Warabe, said gunmen had moved “door to door, looking for girls” late on Sunday.“They forcefully took away eight girls between the ages of 12 and 15,” he said, in an account confirmed by other witnesses. He said the attackers did not kill anyone, which was “surprising”, and suggested that abducting girls was the motive for the attack.Another Warabe resident, Peter Gombo, told AFP that the military and police had not yet deployed to the area.“We have no security here. If the gunmen decide to pick our own girls, nobody can stop them.”- ‘Too much to bear’ -Though initially slow to emerge, global outrage has flared over the mass abduction in Chibok, where Boko Haram stormed their school and loaded the girls at gunpoint onto trucks.Several managed to escape but over 220 girls are still being held, according to police.British Foreign Secretary William Hague called the kidnappings “disgusting” while Angelina Jolie, speaking in Paris, condemned the Chibok abductions as “unthinkable cruelty and evil”.Egypt’s prestigious Islamic institute Al-Azhar, which runs the main Sunni Islamic university in the region, said harming the girls “completely contradicts the teachings of Islam”.Since the attack, parents have criticised the military’s rescue mission, saying there had been a lack of urgency from the outset.Enoch Mark, an outspoken critic of the authorities since his daughter was kidnapped in Chibok, said “the government should find our girls or seek international assistance if it cannot”.“Boko Haram are not spirits or extra-terrestrial creatures that cannot be tracked and subdued,” he told AFP by phone. “The agony and trauma are becoming too much for us parents to bear.

Celeb Out & About Nike Oshinowo And Her Twins.

Ex-Miss Nigeria Nike Oshinowo and her too cute twin babies – a boy and a girl are on the latest cover of Hello Magazine. Nike welcomed her babies last year October via a gestational surrogate in the United States of America. And this is the first time their pictures are hitting the internet.

Here's what the excited mum told Hello! magazine:

On whether she will keep her twins in the spotlight:

This is the only interview I’m going to give about it because my children didn’t choose to come into this world or choose to be famous that way. I’m the one who’s famous. My children are not famous. I’m hoping they’re going to be able to live very normal lives.”

    On having children at 48

“I think one thing you should know with me is that I’ll tell you the truth. If you dare to ask a question, I will answer. The answer might freak you out, but I will answer you as honestly as I can. It can happen to anyone, I’m not special. I’m very close to my creator, and to be close to your creator, you don’t have to go to church or to any special pastor, you just form a one on one relationship with your God.

I'm not supposed to be able to have children. I have endometriosis. I didn’t decide it was time, God decided it was time.

I was out of my marriage, and I was lying in bed, talking to my God “Okay, so, here I am, is this what you want for me? Please tell me the next step. What am I supposed to do now?” and I fell asleep. As I slept, I felt a tug on the bedding and I open my eyes…

I’m saying you have a choice to choose. I chose to have my children look like the rest of my family. I chose to have my children look like my cousins, the children of my sister, the children of my brother – all the same colour. I did what I needed to do to make that happen. My children bear Oshinowo. It’s a very good surname to have!”

Her current relationship with ex-hubby Dr Tunde Soleye

“The attraction to Dr. Tunde Soleye was his mind. He had and still has an amazing mind. I can’t really explain it, but I’m not a highly sexual person and I’ve never been able to be. If you are not, you have to be able to be attracted by other things and he has a phenomenal mind. Don’t forget I wasn’t 18 or 20 or even twenty-five at the time. I was forty! But I have to say I was very much in love.

Was I…guided? More by my heart than my head. Isn’t that nice to be sometimes? Am I embarrassed by that? No. Do I regret it? I don’t. I’m very grateful to have experienced it. It doesn’t happen that often. Would I do it again? Probably not in such a hurry. It took 7 years for me to agree to date him. When I say I wouldn’t do it again in a hurry, I meant I wouldn’t rush into another marriage in a hurry because all the love in the world is still not enough to sustain a marriage. There are other key components.”
