Governors Reject Local Govt Autonomy.

Nigerian governors have perfected plans to mobilise members of their state Houses of Assembly to reject the autonomy granted local governments by the members of the National Assembly.

A faction of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum being led by the Governor of Plateau State, Mr. Jonah Jang, has already condemned the action of the assembly. It said the action of the lawmakers, which if agreed to by the majority of the state houses of assembly, would grant financial and administrative autonomy to the local governments. This, he said, was not in tandem with the yearnings of the people.

The two chambers of the National Assembly had during the amendment to the Constitution, granted 774 Local Government Councils in Nigeria financial and administrative autonomy through amendment of section 7.

Details of the autonomy granted the local councils in the federation include strengthening their administration by providing for their funding, tenure, elections and to clearly delineate their powers and responsibilities to ensure effective service delivery and insulate them from undue and counter-productive interference from state governments.

But the Jang’s faction of the NGF through a statement issued in Abuja on Thursday, vowed to mobilise lawmakers in their respective states against the amendment. The NGF’s faction’s position was contained in a statement issued on its behalf by the Secretary of the Forum, Mr. Osaro Onaiwu. It said, “The Nigeria Governors’ Forum under the leadership of Governor Jonah Jang of Plateau State has differed with the National Assembly over the move to amend the constitution and grant local governments full administrative and financial autonomy.”The governors, according to Onaiwu, also accused some unnamed members of the National Assembly of “using the conference committee to force through an amendment that was clearly rejected by the Senate during the constitution amendment debates and votes.”The statement described the push for local government autonomy by the National Assembly as hasty without first considering the problems of executive recklessness and ineffective administration at the local level. Also, the National Publicity Secretary of Afenifere, Mr. Yinka Odumakin, in a telephone interview with one of our correspondents in Abuja on Thursday, said autonomy for local governments was not in tandem with the principles of federalism. He said, “Granting autonomy to local goverments is antithetical to federalism. Nigeria is the only ‘federation’ in the world with three tiers of government.“Federalism is a system of government where there is a given territory administered by two levels of governments that are coordinate.

CAN President Blasts Politicians Buying Human Parts And Buying Cows And Rams To Win Election.

PRESIDENT of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor, has taken a swipe on fetish politicians, who have began to trade in humans parts for diabolical purposes ahead 2015 general elections.

He said such politicians were the ones
troubling the peace, progress and existence of the country, but would soon meet their waterloo.

The cleric made these submissions on
Wednesday, at the Thanksgiving Service for Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan’s 60 birthday, held at the First Baptist Church, Warri, Delta State.
He described the challenges of the country as foundational in nature, wrongly laid by the country’s forefathers, adding that he was sad
seeing educated Nigerians turning to
diabolism, in spite of its evil implications.
Speaking on “Thanksgiving,” taken from
2Cor. 9:11-12, he warned politicians, who were already engaging themselves in burying cows and human heads in order to win the coming 2015 elections to desist from the act, saying they have already lost in the elections.
“People are burying cows, human heads because of election. You wey go school? Wetin dey do you sef? Dem take white chalk, red chalk rub you? You don lose already.
You are troubling Nigeria,” the CAN
president stated in pidgin.
Oritsejafor, who prophesied that Uduaghan would spend another 60 years on earth, God’s willing, said Nigeria was a place, where wicked people do things with impunity, where “we turn white to black and
black to white.” Perhaps making allusion to the spurious allegation against him over the aircraft saga
in South Africa recently, the former
president of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN), said wicked people in the country usually hung evil on the necks of the innocent.
He frowned at the hardship many innocent Nigerians were going through, admonishing the rich to alleviate the suffering among Nigerians.
“There are people suffering for what they did not do. Some are enjoying what they did not work for. Living a life without God is wickedness,” he admonished.
Responding, Governor Uduaghan, while
giving testimonies about his diamond
jubilee, said his testimonies were numerous, but could only be summarised in the song of
ace gospel singer, Frank Edwards, “Lord You Reign.”
Dignitaries at the occasion included Dr Olu Falae, Deputy Governor Amos Utuama and his wife, Archbishop Goddowell Awomakpa, royal fathers, government functionaries,
musicians and comedians like Alli Baba, Sammy Okposu, Daddy Showkey, among others.
Meanwhile, Dr Uduaghan on Wednesday, attributed his successes and preservation in life to the goodness and mercies of God.
Governor Uduaghan observed that but for God’s intervention in the affairs of his life, would not have been alive to witness the 60 years celebration.
“Sixty years is not a joke. In the last 60 years, God has lifted me from nothing to
something,” he said, adding, “people have accused me of thanking God so much, but,I have not thanked Him enough. “I am a living testimony of thanksgiving, that is why I will continue to thank God again and again. God lifted me up and given me a
new song. I am stronger than I was 10 years ago, I give God all the praises.
“One secret of getting God’s blessing is to praise God,” he reiterated.

32 Year Old Man Remanded In Prison For Defiling 2 Minors In Benue.

A Makurdi Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday remanded a 32-year-old builder in prison over alleged defilement of two sisters of ages six and eight years.
Lorpuur, who lives at the Hemko Hospital, Kanshio, Makurdi, is facing a two-count charge bordering on child defilement.
The Magistrate, Mrs Lillian Terseer-Tsumba, did not take the plea of the accused for want of jurisdiction and adjourned the case to Dec. 4 for mention.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Insp. Terzungwe Kajo told the court that the one Mr Benjamin Tor, who also lives behind Hemko Hospital, reported the case at the ‘B’ Division Police Station, Makurdi, on Oct. 6.
“The complainant in the First Information Report filed at the police station said his late brother’s widow informed him that her two daughters were both raped.
“Tor said the woman, who also lives behind hospital, discovered her daughters walking in a funny way and took them to the hospital for examination, where it was revealed that they had been raped.
“The girls were questioned and they revealed that it was the accused, who is also their mother’s lover, who had sexual intercourse with them.
“When further examinations were conducted on the girls, it was discovered that the accused, who was HIV positive, had infected them,’’ Kajo said.
The prosecutor said Lorpuur was thereafter arrested by the police.
Kajo said investigation was still ongoing in the case and asked the court for an adjournment.
The offences contravened Section 284 of Penal Code, Laws of Benue.

Patience Jonathan Has Resigned Her Appointment As Perm Sec In Bayelsa State.

President Goodluck Jonathan’s wife, Dame Patience Jonathan, has resigned her appointment as Permanent Secretary in the Bayelsa State Civil Service.

Sources from the Ministry of Education said she voluntarily left the civil service, Punch reports.
Some are however speculating that she resigned because of an alleged rift between her the governor of the state, Seriake Dickson which was triggered by her unwillingness to support him for his second term ambition.

Patience Jonathan reportedly has a preference for the Special Assistant to the President on Domestic Matters, Mr. Waripamowei Dudafa and is said to have resigned so she can have the moral justification to fight with the governor ahead of the approaching governorship election.

Though most of the civil servants at state’s Ministry of Education on Thursday refused to comment on the issue, it was learnt from reliable sources that the ministry had computed her terminal benefits already.

Court Invalidates NFF Election Held In Warri.

A Federal High Court sitting in Jos has invalidated the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) election of September 30, 2014 held in Warri.

The NFF polls of September had brought into office Amaju Pinnick as president of the football federation succeeding Aminu Maigari.

But two members of the Chris Giwa group had gone to court to seek redress asking the court to stop the NFF congresses from holding.

Justice Ambrose Allagoa of the Federal High Court in Jos declared in his ruling on Thursday that “I have set aside all the proceedings and decisions of the Warri Extra Ordinary meeting of the 20th September and the Elective Congress of 30th September which were direct contravention of the orders of this court as granted on the 19th September.

“Nobody should foist on the court a complete case of hopelessness so that the principles of law and justice can be upheld. Its not enough to say that the order of court was wrongly made, no matter how unorthodox, its subsisting orders, unless set aside, remains law and must be respected.

Nigerian Man Arrested For Jumping The White House Fence.See More Pictures.

A Nigerian man based in Maryland, USA, Dominic Adesanya,(pictured above) has been arrested after jumping the White House Fence. According to police reports, around 7.15pm yesterday Wednesday October 22nd, Adesanya, 23, climbed the fence on the North Lawn of the building and got about 20 yards past the fence before he was taken down by Secret Service and dogs.

He's currently in police custody but is being treated in a hospital for injuries he sustained during the encounter. He was attacked by K.9 dogs. Some of the dogs also had to be treated after Adesanya kicked them.

The White House was on a lock-down for about two hours after Adesanya jumped the fence. President Obama was said to be in the White House at the time of the incident. Police also said Adesanya was not armed...but he's still in big trouble.

According to his Facebook profile, he attended Stevenson University for business administration and management and Hartford Community College for an associate of science, along with partially business administration and management.

His father spoke with ABC 2 and said Adesanya had been arrested at the White House before and that the family had tried to get him help.

His jump comes weeks after a similar incident happened, prompting the resignation of the director of Secret Service, Julia Pierson on October 1st. In September, a 42 year old man named Omar Gonzalez also jumped the fence and got in the East room before he was arrested. Guess there will be more copycats. The Secret Service need to pay more attention.

Suspected Boko Haram Members Blast Bus Station In Bauchi.

Suspected Boko Haram attack has hit a bus station in the town of Azare in Bauchi state, witnesses say.

The large explosion rocked a bus station in a northern region of Nigeria previously targeted by Boko Haram, witnesses said, in what appeared to be the latest crack in the government's purported ceasefire with the armed group.

"We had a huge blast at exactly 9:45pm (20:45 GMT)... We realised it had come from the bus station," said Musa Babale, a resident of the town of Azare in Bauchi state where the blast occurred on Wednesday.

"The whole place was a mess," he added, in an account supported by several others.

Last Saturday, Nigeria claimed to have reached a deal with the armed rebel group, but continued violence following the agreements raised doubts about the purported breakthrough.

Boko Haram Abducts 60 Women In Adamawa.

Sixty women were reportedly abducted by suspected members of the deadly Boko Haram sect at Waga Mangoro and Garta villages, both in troubled Adamawa State during a fresh attack.

Forty of the women were said to have been abducted in Waga Mangoro and the other 20 were forcefully taken away from Grata.

Some of the fleeing residents from the area, who called journalists in Yola on the telephone lamented that scores of insurgents riding motorcycles and driving vans had invaded their towns. The fleeing residents while lamenting the capture of the two towns, said they were able to sneak out of the captured towns on Tuesday, but disclosed that their villages were ravaged on Saturday.

One of those that was about to flee the area, Tizhe Kwada told journalists that the area had been under the control of the insurgents for about two months now.

He said that though one of the attacked towns, Garta had been under what could be termed as the control of the insurgents for sometimes now, but that did not stop them from overrunning it and carting away the young women.Kwada claimed that the insurgents cordon off the entire town and went from one house to another in Garta in search of young women who they took in their vans to an unknown destination. He said, “The insurgents are still in the area. And they have slaughtered many men in Garta and abducted many young women. We also heard from residents of Wagga that they killed two men and took 40 women away from there.”A community leader from Michika, a neighbouring town to the two attacked towns, Emmanuel Kwache, while confirming the incident to journalists in Yola on Wednesday said, “I got the information from villagers in the area that the rampage was still in progress.”But when he was contacted, the Chairman of Madagali Local Government Area, James Watharda, said “I had all along been in Yola since the insurgents took over the area and as such I can speak little of happening in the area.”As of the time of filing the story, both the military and security agencies could not be reached for confirmation.

Jim Iyke Joins Politics .....

Controversial Actor, Jim Iyke has also joined politics unlike the others, he isn’t contesting for a political post. The Nollywood bad boy who is now a member of newly registered Young Democratic Party as its Director General in the Diaspora explained that the vision of the party is to empower and promote Nigerian youths within and outside the shore of the country.

In an interview with Daily Independent, he said:“We just want to say enough is enough. It is time power and our policies shift hands to fresher minds, to stronger fortes, to people that are ready to move with the momentum of time, tide and changes.

But it cannot be conceivable if you are saddled in that position for over two decades? How can you grow? How can you go with the tide of time? Biologically too, time will catch up with you because you are growing old in that position.(continue)….“Look at advanced countries of the world, and take a close look at people that have moved forward, these are people who have put things in place so that changes will be constant.

Refreshment of minds, ideas, psychology, idiosyncrasies will be constant except for Nigeria.“The same circle of people that governed us 20 years ago are the same people who are still ruling us, what are they still doing there? So many of them are in their 80s, grandfathers by all rights! Are they not tired? Suffering and smiling has become our motto, our slogan”,“There are black men of strong background and strong voice abroad. We have them everywhere.

There is a rippling effect, that whatsoever resonates here touches the whole world. This is the strongest economy, the most populous black nation in the world. You cannot say that what we are doing concerns Nigerians alone. It concerns Africa, in the weight of what we are doing, we are carrying everybody along.“We are not saying that this is a revolution or we are here to manipulate anybody, no. It is an open and closed book.

This change may not happen in this era but it is a right step in the right direction at least there is a voice which hitherto was none existence. There is a platform where you can air your grievances. It is a truthful and open platform.

17 Kindergarten Students Test Positive To Ebola After Contact With Liberian Exchange Student In Texas.

The unused wing of a retirement community in Wortham, Texas was transformed into a makeshift Ebola ward after 17 kindergarten students fell violently ill and tested positive for the Ebola virus. It is believed that the children were exposed to the deadly disease after sharing classrooms with a Liberian foreign exchange student. The girl had recently arrived in the states to spend a year with an American family after her own parents were displaced by war.

She began vomiting excessively two week after her arrival and tested positive for Ebola shortly before the other children began displaying symptoms themselves.
A substitute teacher who was working with the children during the time in which they are believed to have became infected is currently under observation at an undisclosed local hospital.

Panicked relatives lined up outside of the former Hillsview Retirement Community in Wortham awaiting news about their sick children. One woman who was visibly distressed had to be escorted from the premises by armed security guards. Several trucks carrying bio-hazard decontamination equipment were witnessed throughout the property to help minimize the risk of others becoming exposed to infection.

23 specially trained medical staff members have been brought in from neighboring states to tend the children; A daunting task, mainly due to the measures they must take in order to avoid getting infected with Ebola themselves. Many emerge exhausted after administering care for several hours while wearing a bulky hazmat suit. Despite inquiries made in regard to the current heath status of the youths, medical staff refused to disclose any information on their condition.
