Why Won't They Live Tonto Alone.

Just at a time when the actress defended her role in the controversial movie, Dirty  Secret, the rumour that she is having an affair with a 19-year old singer, Wiz Kid,  began to spread  like wild fire.

According to a source close to Tonto, "there is no iota of truth in the rumour."

The source argued that it  is disheartening that most times, the actress only finds  herself a victim of circumstance.

"Tonto is a very decent girl with good heart. I can tell you that most of the things  being written about her in the media are not true. If you get close to her, you will  discover the real kind of person she is.

"I am convinced that it is some people who are envious of her success and steady  rise to stardom that are sponsoring these baseless rumours. Just  imagine it, how  could Tonto be dating a 19-year old?

Sanusi Rubbishes NASS,Insists On His Figures.

Despite brutal questioning by a Senate select committee, Central Bank governor, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, yesterday stood by his comments that the National Assembly's budget for overhead is 25.4% of the nation's total.

Mr Sanusi withstood strong attempts to browbeat him into admitting that the figures were at least lower than that, or that he was misquoted by the media.

The public hearing convened by the Senate followed newspaper publications quoting the Central Bank governor as saying that the nation spends one-quarter of its funds on running the National Assembly, and a subsequent publication quoting the finance minster as saying he would cut the budgetary allocation to the assembly.

Mr Sanusi had at a lecture delivered at the eighth convocation of the Igbinedion University , Okada, Edo State, said 25% of the nation's resources are spent on the lawmakers. This annoyed the Senators who ordered him to appear before them and defend his statement.

The Central Bank governor appeared on Wednesday before the Senate committee alongside the finance minister, Olusegun Aganga. However, unlike the finance minister who quickly dissociated himself from the statement that he intended cutting allocation to the assembly, Mr. Sanusi admitted saying that 25.4% of the nation's overhead cost is spent on the National Assembly.

He held his grounds, backing his statements with records from other national dailies which quoted him correctly, and with statistics from the budget office.

Mr. Aganga who later assumed the role of an umpire told the Senators that the CBN governor's figures were correct although they may appear wrong in another context.

The minister argued that overhead cost figures which include Service Wide Votes (money spent on maintenance of government facilities), are as legitimate those which do not include the votes.

Rage

Evidently angry, Iyiola Omisore (PDP Osun State) who led the Senate panel alleged that the CBN governor had chosen to deliberately incite Nigerians against the Assembly. He asked Mr. Aganga to state categorically whether Mr. Sanusi's statement was right or wrong. The minister again said the statement depends on context or the way one chooses to use statistics.

Members of the Senate panel made up of four different committees could not hold back their rage against the unyielding CBN governor and frequently compared him to the more amenable finance minister, trying to coax him into some form of apology.

The Senators made no effort to hide their bias and blatantly refused to give any room to the Central Bank governor, to defend his figures and the context in which they were used.

Mr. Omisore pointedly told the harassed CBN governor at one point that the committee was not prepared to listen to him and that he must direct his responses through the finance minister. Mr Sanusi, however, occasionally barged in to make the point that his figures were right and that he got them from the director of budget's office.

No apology

He said he would only apologise if the figures from the budget office were wrong. He insisted that, "Total Federal Government Overhead is over N500 billion and the Overhead of the National Assembly is N136.2 billion. This is exactly 25.1 per cent of total government overhead. I am quoting from the figure I got from the Budget Office. If you like, you can invite the Director-General of the Budget Office.'' When told by Mr. Omisore, who is the Chairman, Senate Committee on Appropriation, that the figure was wrong following a clarification by the Minister of Finance, Mr. Sanusi replied: "I don't know where the minister got his figures." To the calls on him to apologise, he said, "By my nature, if I do not believe that I am wrong, I do not apologise." He urged the Senators to examine the context under which he made his statement which was actually in a lecture about factors that fuel inflationary trends.

Staking his job

After hours of fruitless attempts to get the CBN governor to admit wrongdoing and apologise to the Senators, the lawmakers seemed to deviate from the matter and begin to question the character of the governor and the annual budget of the CBN.

"We really need to be sure that the CBN governor has the character to stay in that office," Heineken Lokpobiri (PDP Bayelsa State) said.

Other Senators took turns to tongue lash the CBN governor. They accused him of speaking too much and asked him questions like "do you enjoy your job? Do you feel like quitting?'' And if he thinks democracy is too expensive.

"My name is Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, (my name is) not Central Bank Governor. I enjoy my job but if you want me to quit, I will honourably quit," Mr Sanusi replied before a cheering crowd of spectators.

The unwavering Central Bank governor told the Senators that the survival of democracy is dependent on allowing people the freedom to speak. He added that he had always been involved in the fight for democracy way back to the time of June 12 and that even if the military takes over now, he will still fight them off.

The issue remained unresolved as both sides disagreed with each other's figures. However, Mr. Omisore gave the CBN governor a stern warning not to use such figures in comments about the National Assembly anymore.

Mr. Sanusi is also expected to appear before the entire House of Representatives today to defend his statement

Speaking on his experience while working on set of Between Kings and Queens, popular Nollywood actor Jim Iyke said, "I saw it as a cultural exchange of some sorts. The truth is that the key ingredients when shooting a movie is the talent and relentless effort of the director. It was easy to work and hang around with some really cool people.

Civil Society Groups Stage Rally for Kidney Diseases

Civil society actors and human rights activists yesteday flooded the Lagos State seat of power in Alausa, asking the administration of President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan to intervene in the growing cases of kidney and renal diseases in the country.

National President of Campaign for Democracy (CD), Dr. Joe-Okei Odumakin led the rally, which started from Allen Avenue Junction and ended in the office of Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola, calling the governments at different levels to help prevent the rising cases of kidney and renal diseases and crises in the country.

Such groups as Campaign for Democracy (CD), Save Nigeria Group (SNG) Youth Wing, Women Arise for Change Initiative, Artists for Change Initiative, Kidney Rejoice, comedians and musicians participated in the march aimed at sensitizing Nigerians and drawing attention of the governments to the devastative effects of kidney and renal diseases.

Okei-Odumakin addressed the gathering at Alausa, expressing concerns on the rising cases of kidney and renal diseases. She said a good number of people having kidney problems could not afford money for transplant.

She also asked the administrations of President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan and Governor Fashola to come to assist those who are currently suffering from the acute kidney and renal diseases in the country's hospitals.

She sought governments' support for the Kidney Rejoice Foundation of Hadunni Ogunjumelo, a TV presenter and other independent efforts to stem the menace of kidney and renal diseases in Nigeria.

But Governor Fashola told the group of civil society actors about various actions his administration had taken to address kidney and renal crisis in the state, saying the state would soon be the West African referral centre for comprehensive renal and cancer treatment before the end of the first quarter of 2011.

He told the gathering of some advocacy groups, notable actors and actresses, who have gone round Lagos metropolis to sensitise residents about kidney diseases that his administration had taken steps to tackle kidney problems.

He said the first of the state efforts at addressing kidney crisis led to the construction of a renal and cancer centre in Gbagada General Hospital as a response to huge cost the state is spending on kidney patients.

"We have spent certain amount of the state government budget on the treatment of kidney patients. We send them to England, US, India. In this year alone, we have done about 300. Kidney diseases are a rising global menace that currently claim huge percentage of health budgets globally.

"But just as we have spent money sending people abroad for treatment, so will Gbagada will be the destination of all kidney patients in West Africa. We are already recruiting staff and consultants. This project will bring back home some of our experts currently working abroad," Fashola said.

Nollywood's Hunky Jim Iyke

Posted by Picasa
Getting Jim Iyke Esumogba for an interview has been a long chase. In between movie sets abroad and running his foundation, the actor has been busy. The University of Jos graduate , opened up on things close to his heart.Few know he was born in Gabon Libreville but not a few have dubbed him Nollywood ‘bad boy’ however love or hate him; Iyke continues to enjoy a rising profile amidst several controversies. As the only African on the set of ‘Between Kings and Queens’ what was the experience like for you? I saw it as a cultural exchange of some sorts. I was basically the only African in the movie but you know the way thespians are , inregardless of the colour .We think alike, we are one minded people ,we are uniformed in our approach to things so in no time it was easy for me to blend in and work together to make things happen. The truth is that the key ingredients when shooting a movie is the talent and relentless effort of the director. It was easy to work and hang around with some really cool people. You seem to be involved in a lot of international movies lately, any reasons for for this? Yeah ,I’ve not been featuring lately in the homemade movies and it’s a sort of PR gimmick but it’s all about doing quality works. Although Nollywood has not enjoyed the full support of its people and the government as it should, Nollywood still has a lot to catch up with , It’s always humbling when I go outside the country and see lots of cool things , it gladdens my heart.I’ve been away for close to 3 months and trust me there is no comparison at all. ‘Between Kings and Queens’ is my third movie shot abroad . Have you tried your hands on movie making? I own a production company called Untamed Productions, which is the film arm of the Untamed Franchise. We have made two movies this year ‘Two Dollars’ and ‘Shades of White’. We decided to do premiere tours in the United States and so far we have done 8 cities. We just finished our Greenwich, London premiere as well and it was highly successful. The turnout in each of the cities has been amazing and beyond my imagination. We will be starting the premiere tour of ‘Shades of White’ soon after which I will rest for two weeks and rest. You seem to be at the centre of controversies lately, why do you think this is so? Things are happening very fast .It also happens that I like to operate under the radar of the media right now. The last few months has not been funny for me .I think there has been a calculated attempt by certain people to mar my person so I’ve grown rather apprehensive especially with the media. It also unfortunate, that some people judge me by my movie roles. What has been happening to your foundation? It’s doing great. If you have been following our activities we just had an 8000 children’s march in Abuja. Between work and pro bono it’s a long stretch. I deal with the work first, after which the foundation comes. I have a reality show called Jewel for Jim and it’s picking up momentum. We intend to start soon as soon as we put pen on paper with the networks involved. I intend to donate part of the proceedings to charity and my foundation. A lot has been happening like I said and I don’t just like to sit down and talk about it with the media it’s that simple. Why are you perceived as aggressive by some people? I think it’s outrageous when people judge you according to what you act. It’s only in a country like ours that things like this happen. You can’t seek redress in court because the junk journalists know the inefficiency of the Justice system .In a country , where objective journalism is missing , anything goes . Any updates on your music career? I just wanted to play and have a little bit of fun and create a company/record label and I suceeded . I like to do things that are fun and release once in a while and music is one of them .I plan to sign up more artistes but my plate is full right now. I have so much work to do but as soon as things lessen on my plate , that will be the first thing I will do.

D’Banj collaborates with Snoop Dog

Posted by Picasa
Multiple award winning act, D’banj formerly called Kokomaster, and recently re-christened Mr Endowed, has continued in his efforts to retain his status as one of Nigeria’s leading artistes. Early this week, news of a collaboration with American rapper, Snoop Dogg, on a track surfaced. The tale became more believable when D’banj’s friend and label boss, Don Jazzy posted on Twitter a promo artwork of Mr Endowed remix with D’banj and Snoop Dogg on the cover. The ensuing responses were predictable. Mr Endowed was released in May this year as Dbanj’s lead single off his expected fourth album titled after the single. Scapegoat was the follow up single. For now, it is unclear if Mr Endowed re_mix will be released as single No. 3 or if fans will have to wait for the full album which may or may not drop this year. The singer’s management is yet to make an official statement on the development.

Actress, Amina Garba,Aka Dumba Dies At 52 .

Posted by Picasa
The Hausa film industry was thrown into mourning yesterday with the death of one of the leading actresses, Hajiya Amina Garba (a.k.a. Mama Dumba), who died in Kano. Mama Dumba, popular with her role as an elderly, responsible mother or wife of a rich man in the movies, died at the age of 52 three weeks after she had remarried. Her husband of three weeks, Alhaji Abdulkareem Shehu Bauchi, told ABDULAZIZ ABDULAZIZ that she succumbed to a long battle with high blood pressure, diabetes and ulcer. On Saturday, Mama Dumba had been taken to the Gwagwarwa Clinic in Kano metropolis, where she worked as a nurse till her death. She was treated and asked to go home. She was, however, returned to the hospital yesterday when her condition deteriorated and died at about 2:30 p.m. Her remains were conveyed by her family members to her house at Kofar Kabuga area of the city, where parts of the funeral rites were observed. She is survived by her husband and five children (two of whom are female). Shell-shocked colleagues of the late actress showered encomiums on her as she was interred at the Kofar Mazugal cemetery in Kano City. Administrative secretary of the Motion Picture Practitioners Association of Nigeria, Malam Ahmad Salihu Alkanawy, described the deceased as a true mother whose death has created a huge vacuum in the movie industry. “She has indeed left a large vacuum. She was a real mother who was responsible. We pray Allah in His infinite mercy to forgive her shortcomings,” he said. On his part, famous actor, Alhaji Ibrahim Maishunku, said Hajiya Amina Garba “was indeed kind; a nice woman whose good manners can be attested to by viewers and those of us who work with her in the industry.” According to him, the death of Dumba was symbolic, considering the fact that she recently got married despite other people’s opinion about her being too elderly for a fresh marriage union. He said: “Some people thought she was too old for marriage but Allah has destined that she would die as a complete human being, a responsible married woman.” Another actor, Malam Jibril S. Fagge, recalled the qualities of the deceased, saying, “Hajiya was a good mother, especially for those of us who knew her and came from the same place as her. I knew her as she knew my parents; she was a kind woman. “Today is exactly three weeks that she got married, as if she had a premonition that she was going to die. But we believe this was the doing of Allah and we hope Allah will cover her with His infinite mercy

St Genevieve Curses Rumour Mongers.

With a truck-load off widely publicised scandals (most of them untrue, according to those close to her) behind her, and a public image that has seen the deepest ends of good and bad times, Ms Nnaji understands the hazards of her profession; and, just like colleagues Omotola, 2face Idibia and Mercy Johnson, she has learnt to develop her shock absorbers and make the best of whatever fame brings her way. But, how would she handle it, when word begins to filter out, from those who should know, about how ‘she’s not taking care of her family; how the lifestyle of her daughter, and her mother does not reflect they’re in any way related to superstar Genny; how they struggle to make ends meet, and even have to resort to Okada – those notorious Lagos motorcycles from time to time’? For weeks, our sources wondered and queried why an ‘almighty’ Genevieve would not buy her mother a car. Can she not afford it? Did she really abandon her family? Or she’s simply not as rich as perceived? So many questions kept coming, but little or no answer. And Chief Correspondent Dimeji Ogedengbe went out in search of answers. What he found will shock you. How to Do Dread Extenders

Neglecting to comb your hair and letting it knit together into clumps is the natural way to produce dreadlocks. These clumps are then pried apart to make large or small locks, depending on the style you choose. This process takes a fair amount of time. Backcombing locks of hair produces the same results more quickly, but this can damage your hair. Adding extensions is another alternative. These temporary dreadlocks can be removed when you grow tired of them. Difficulty: Moderate Instructions Things You'll Need: Hair extensions Spirit gum 1 Section your hair into a square of approximately 1"x1". Braid the section of hair. 2 To attach the synthetic hair to your braid, place a dab of spirit gum on one end of the synthetic hair extension and glue the end of the extension perpendicular (horizontally) onto your braid at a point that is close to the scalp. Wrap the synthetic hair tightly around the outside of the entire natural hair braid, keeping the rows close together, until you reach the end of your braided hair. When you are finished, your natural hair will be covered with the synthetic hair wound tightly around it. 3 Cut off any synthetic hair that is longer than your braided hair and place a dab of spirit gum on the end of the dread to glue it in place and to keep it from unwrapping. This produces a silky type of dread. 4 If you desire more realistic dreadlocks, backcomb the dreads. Comb the synthetic hair toward the scalp. This will produce a rougher look. 5 Repeat the steps on all the braids to get an entire head of dreadlock

Rev. Chris Oyakhilome under Surveillance for Money Laundering .

The nefarious and outright disregard of the financial regulations of the federal republic of Nigeria by Rev.Chris Oyakhilome, senior pastor of Christ Embassy, has drawn the attention of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commissiom (EFCC).
Investigation revealed that Chris Oyakhilome in cahoots with other top members of Christ Embassy Ministry (a.k.a Believers Loveword Inc) has been placed under surveillance by EFCC,  for money laundering activities. Our checks reveal that the preacher was involved in strange cash movement of the sum of thirty five million dollars ($35,000,000).
Recall that when huhuonline.com x-rayed the financial dealing of Chris Oyakhilome and his ministry, some years back, many die hard members and sympathizers of his ministry were quick to come to his defence.
However, recent developments learnt has sent shock waves to members of the church across the world, and many of the nominal members, who were used in the money laundering scheme, are now scrambling for safe havens.
