Today is Human Rights Day "Stand up for someone's rights today"

Human Rights Day is observed every year on 10 December. It commemorates the day on which, in 1948, the United Nations General Assembly adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. In 1950, the Assembly passed resolution 423 (V), inviting all States and interested organizations to observe 10 December of each year as Human Rights Day.

This year, Human Rights Day calls on everyone to stand up for someone's rights! Disrespect for basic human rights continues to be wide-spread in all parts of the globe. Extremist movements subject people to horrific violence. Messages of intolerance and hatred prey on our fears. Humane values are under attack.
We must reaffirm our common humanity. Wherever we are, we can make a real difference. In the street, in school, at work, in public transport; in the voting booth, on social media.
The time for this is now. “We the peoples” can take a stand for rights. And together, we can take a stand for more humanity.
It starts with each of us. Step forward and defend the rights of a refugee or migrant, a person with disabilities, an LGBT person, a woman, a child, indigenous peoples, a minority group, or anyone else at risk of discrimination or violence.

"Upholding human rights is in the interest of all. Respect for human rights advances well-being for every individual, stability for every society, and harmony for our interconnected world" United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon

It’s time for each of us to step up for human rights. There is no action that is too small: wherever you are, you can make a difference. Together, let’s take a stand for more humanity" UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Zeid Ra'ad Al Hussein

Don’t waste 2017 blaming previous administration- Bruce warns Buhari:

In an obvious reference to President Muhammadu Buhari’s perceived penchant for blaming the Jonathan administration for Nigeria’s woes, Ben Murray Bruce has advised the Federal Government not to “waste time” blaming the previous administration if the nation must not witness “economic collapse.”
Bruce is the senator representing Bayelsa East constituency, Bayelsa State, on the platform of PDP.

Taking to his twitter account on Friday, Bruce had written: “As 2017 approaches let me warn that if we waste it blaming previous admins as we did 2016, we will move from recession to economic collapse!”

Wike Knocks APC Governors For Refusing To Pay Salaries And Pension.

Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, Rivers State Governor

Rivers State Governor , Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has berated APC Governors for refusing to pay salaries to their civil servants and pensioners , saying that they will not be allowed to export hardship from their states to the treasure base of the nation.

This was made available to newsmen by the Special Assistant to the Rivers State Governor, Electronic Media, Simeon Nwakaudu. He said, Governor Wike , while flagging off the construction of Elimgbu-Atali Road , Rumuokoro Market and Motorola Park and the Psychiatric Hospital in Obio-Akpor Local Government Area on Thursday, said that APC Governors represent the failure of governance in some states.

He said the APC Governors who campaigned in Rivers State were owing their workers between 8 months to one year of unpaid salaries . He said : “These APC governors who came to Rivers State are examples of failed governance .

Benue State Governor , Samuel Ortom is owing workers for one year. Plateau State Governor, Simon Lalong is owing 13 months, Bauchi State Governor has refused to pay workers for 14months.” “Is that what they want to export to Rivers State. They should keep their non payment of salaries.

We are up to date in terms of payment of salaries. Our people are enjoying quality projects. I have not heard any of them commissioning projects.” Speaking further, Governor Wike said: “In Benue State, Fulani people are killing them everyday. Governor Ortom is too scared to defend his people and he is here to campaign.” “These APC governors are beneficiaries of Amaechi’s corruption.

Amaechi stole our resources and used the funds to sponsor Lalong, Abubakar of Bauchi State, Ortom of Benue State and the APC National Campaigns”. Governor Wike said that the Kano State Governor, Ganduje failed to set up a Commission of Inquiry to investigate who killed the Resident Electoral Commissioner of Kano State and his family.

The governor commended Rivers people for what he said, “staying away from the APC Rally, since the party has notging to offer.” He said the APC is not on ground, hence they are planning to rig. He urged the people of the state to vote for PDP, adding that youths should defend the votes of all constituencies.

Ladies, Be Warned! This is Why Used Bras and Pants Can Cause Bacterial Infections

Dr Ayoola Adeyemi, a dermatologist, has issued a strong warning to all users of fairly used bras and pants.
The doctor warned against the use of used bras and pants because according to him, it could cause bacterial infections.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria, the doctor noted that since the health status of the initial user could not be verified, it would be advisable for individuals to desist from buying used pants and bras.
“Some bacterial infections could occur when we use fairly used panties because the health history of the initial user was not known.
“Skin rashes, eczema, syphilis and other bacterial infections may occur,” she said.
However, some ladies in Lagos have said they prefer buying fairly used pants and brassieres because they were durable and that they were cost effective.
They told the News Agency of Nigeria in separate interviews on Friday in Lagos that their preference for fairly used pants and bras was due to the fact that such products were genuine and last longer than new ones.
Mrs Ann Adedeji, who was at Ikotun Central Market in Lagos, said apart from durability, most of the farily used pants and bras had trendy designs and were colourful.
She said, “I get more colourful bras and pants that are most times not available in boutiques and at the same time, I get value for my money as they are durable.
“You can only get unique bra designs here because the Ikotun Central Market is the main place for fairly used underwears.”
Mrs Victoria Adejo, who was also at the market, told NAN that it was after she suffered an embarrassing experience with a new bra that she decided to make do with fairly used ones.
She said the hook of the bra she was wearing came-off while she was in a meeting in the office and was left in uncomfortable position all through the meeting.
“Since that incident, I stopped buying panties and bras from boutiques,’’ she said.
Mrs Oluchi Onwuka, who sells used panties in Ikotun Market, said she never regretted venturing into the business.
She said, “it is a profitable business and I am growing in it. I have boutique owners who come to buy in bulk; they wash and package them and resell at exorbitant rates and I am aware.”
Miss Damilola Madu, who also deals in fairly used panties and bras, also says the underwears are durable and cheaper than new ones.
Madu added that used bras held the breast firmly and the elasticity was retained for a very long time, unlike new ones.
“Used undies are cheaper and last longer than new ones; that is the reason people come for it,” she said.

Donald Trump's Secretary Of Labor Pick Was Accused Of Domestic Abuse MULTIPLE Times!

Following Donald Trump's announcement that he had picked Hardee's and Carl's Jr CEO Andrew Puzder for Secretary of Labor, disgusting claims surfaced from his past.

According to the River Front Times, in 1989 Andrew's first wifeLisa Hennings accused her husband of hitting and then throwing her to the floor during an argument. Lisa also claimed Puzder unplugged the house phone so she wouldn't be able to call the police.

In response to the accusations, the CEO admitted that he"grabbed her by the shoulders and pushed her back," so she wouldn't hurt herself.

In the exes' divorce docs, Ms. Hennings also claims in the late '70s neighbors called the cops after one of their fights turned into vicious plate-throwing. The filing also cites an incident in 1985 when Andrew allegedly punched her in the face.

Throughout the divorce, the fast food king always denied the domestic abuse allegations.

To make matters particularly unsettling, Lisa seems to backtrack on her stories of domestic violence in a November email advocating his selection for Drumpf's cabinet:

"You know how deeply I regret many of the rash decisions I made at that time and I sincerely hope that none of those decisions will become an issue for you at this time. I impulsively filed for a divorce without your knowledge and was counseled then to file an allegation of abuse. I regretted and still regret that decision and I withdrew those allegations over thirty years ago. You were not abusive. I will most definitely confirm to anyone who may ask that in no way was there abuse. We had a heated argument. We both said things to one another that we regret to this day. I have always been grateful that we have been able to forgive one another for the hurt we caused caused each other. You and I resolved this long ago. We put it behind us and now enjoy what I consider to be a loving and respectful relationship. That is a testament to your integrity and grace. This would not have been possible if you had been a violent or abusive husband. You were not. I wish you always the best of luck in any and all of your endeavors. I know you would be an excellent addition to the Trump team."

Did Kanye West just tint his hair ?

Kanye West is making several changes in his life, starting with his hair!

In the past couple of weeks, the rapper made headlines when he was hospitalized for exhaustion and dehydration at UCLA Medical Center. Though he was released late November, rumors began to circulate that his breakdown caused friction with wife Kim Kardashian.

On Thursday, the controversial artist attended the Rick Owens: Furniture exhibition at the MOCA Pacific Design Center in West Hollywood sporting blonde hair!

The (above) photo was taken by artist Giovanni Bassan where he added the caption:

"K s in da house"

Although he's been through a lot in the past two months, West looks relatively happy and healthy, most likely due to the rest he's been getting.

We just hope Ye continues to focus on his health before he jumps back into the spotlight.

FG Information App For Launch Dec. 15

The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, has announced that the Federal Government Information App (FGIAPP) will be launched in Abuja on 15 Dec. 2016, as part of efforts to enhance the dissemination of government activities.

The Minister made the announcement in Abuja on Thursday at a meeting with Resident Information Officers (RIOs) from Ministries, Departments and Agencies ahead of the launch.

He said with the Information App, the Federal Government is leveraging the New Media to communicate government's policies and programmes to the people anywhere in the world and on real time basis.

"We as a government and as Information Ministry will leverage on the unique technology to inform the world about what we are doing. With the new App, it means anybody anywhere in the world will get to know, real time, what is happening in Nigeria at least from our own
perspective and narrative," Alhaji Mohammed said.

He said the activities of the present administration are hugely under-reported, hence the need to align with the global trend in
information sharing.

"The information architecture has changed completely...Today, the story is very different because we have the New Media, and unless you show a very strong presence there, you are not communicating to the world," the Minister said.

Alhaji Mohammed stressed the essence of rich content to make the App viable, and said the necessary training and working tools will be provided for the RIOs in order to build their capacity and ensure effective contributions from their respective Ministries. Departments and Agencies.

In her remarks, the Director, Information Technology in the ministry, Mrs. Veronica Adeyemo, said the App will be a cache of timely and credible information that will drive the authentic narrative from the side of the government.

The App Developer, Mr. Olawole Falope, said it will be another veritable platform for Nigeria to blow its trumpet.

"The truth is if you heard only one side of the story, you make your decisions based on just one side. It's about time that our great nation Nigeria starts to speak and we have to speak to the world," he said.

He noted that most of the information being put out about Nigeria is either false or outrightly fabricated, hence the need for the
government to reverse the ugly trend.

FG flags off school feeding programme in Anambra

*FG releases N53m to serve meals to 76, 690 pupils

*3.4m pupils to be fed across 17 states

The National Homegrown School Feeding scheme of the President Muhammadu Buharihas kicked off in Anambra State on Thursday with free meal to be served 76,690 pupils in 1,050 primary schools in the state.

Speaking in Awka, Anambra State, the Special Assistant on Homegrown School Feeding Programme in the Office of the Vice President, Mr. Dotun Adebayo said primary school pupils in Anambra were excited as the feeding started in their schools.

Adebayo, who led a team of federal and state officials to some of the schools on day one of the Homegrown School Feeding Programme implementation said they witnessed the feeding in three schools in Akwa: Community Primary School, Awka South; Central School, Ameobi and Central School in Nibo.

“The pupils were excited and enjoyed the meals,” he stated, adding that the cooks in those three schools, among the total of 774 already recruited and trained for the feeding programme, served ‘Okpa’ a.k.a Moin-moin garnished with vegetables to the delight of the pupils who took the meals during their break time about noonday.

“All together in Anambra State, an estimated 76, 690 pupils in 1050 schools would be served every day of school. The feeding programme caters to pupils from primary 1-3,” he said.

He said having met the stated requirements for Federal Government funding for the Homegrown School Feeding, a sum of N53, 687, 900 had been released directly to cooks for the kick-off of the school feeding programme in Anambra, to last till the end of the current school term.

“All the cooks were recruited from communities around the primary schools for the programme, verified and trained to provide the catering service in the 21 LGAs in the State. Generally, the Homegrown School Feeding programme, which is one of the Social Investment plans of the Buhari presidency, is driven through community participation where residents in the community are engaged as cooks to provide feeding services. Also the programme leverages on the agricultural produce available within the communities.

“The Homegrown School Feeding programme of the Buhari administration will not only boost school enrollment and improve the nutritional status of the pupils, it would also stimulate local farming, while equally creating jobs including the 774 cooks now in gainful employment in Anambra State,” he said.

According to him, while the 2016 Budget of Change made provision for funding of the feeding programme in 18 states, 17 States had concluded the designing of the School feeding models through state-level multi-sectoral capacity building workshops, based on FG’s stipulated requirements.

“The 17 states are: Anambra, Akwa Ibom, Ebonyi, Enugu, Sokoto, Kaduna, Borno, Zamfara, Ogun, Oyo, Osun, Benue, Plateau, Taraba, Delta, Abia and Bauchi. Estimated figures from 15 of these states put the numbers of pupils to be feed at over 3.4 million,” he said.

5 tips for those planning to travel to the East this Christmas by road

Natives of Eastern Nigeria who live outside their region are always keen about the Christmas season as it is the one time they travel back home to observe several ceremonies and reconnect with their extended families. They almost always embark on their journey home by road via luxurious buses and shuttles, and due to increase in the number of vehicles heading east, travellers almost always have to deal with traffic jams and gridlocks.
Usually, travelers heading in the south-east direction from the Asaba end get the first taste of the traffic at the Onitsha head bridge before the main course within town where commercial activities add to make the traffic even more frustrating. Seeing as Christmas is here again, and almost every Igbo indigene has plans to visit home, there is bound to be serious traffic gridlock. But not to worry, Jumia Travel, Africa's No.1 online hotel booking site has a few tips and ideas to help alleviate the stress.

Set out early

The early bird gets the fattest worms. If you are determined to beat the Onitsha traffic or at least cut out a lot of it during your journey. You should make plans to wake up super early so as to leave in time. If you are travelling from Lagos and commuting via public transport companies such as God is Good Motors or Chisco, endeavor to catch up with the first bus which leaves at about 6am. However, if you are setting out on your own, you can actually set out as early as 5am, depending on where you are setting out from. You however need to be vigilant so as not to fall victim to robbery or mugging.

Fill your stomach.

Hunger has a way of intensifying stress and making you angry even in situations where you would be angry on a normal day. Keeping your stomach filled helps you stay focused on the traffic ahead, keeps you alert, and less stressed; and makes the traffic much more bearable. Luckily there are hawkers who parade the aisles of the traffic with tasty delights, you can patronize them or you can pack your own food before you set out for the journey. For those who have tiny stomachs and cannot afford to indulge in food, popcorn is a life saver. Eating one kernel at a time occupies your mind while the carbs calm you down.

Listen to soothing Music

Music is food for the soul and everyone has their kind of music, the one that calms and soothes their nerves in times of stress of difficulties. Before you set out on your journey, ensure you stock up on CDs and MP3s. Make sure you diversify the genre as there is no telling what mood you will be in when the gridlock sets in. You might find out that singing along to loud banging music might work better for the stress than slow music. Singing does not only get your mind off the traffic, it also changes your breathing pattern, which in turn lowers stress levels by slowing the heart rate and calming the nervous system. If you are however not a fan of any kind of music, you can simple go for an audio book or a podcast.
Go with Public Transport

Most people prefer to travel in their own private cars, however, it may not be the best option to deal with Onitsha traffic, especially if you intend to get to your destination as soon as feasible. The public transport systems have options that offer maximum comfort similar to that which you get from your own car. Sitting in the car and having someone else struggle through the traffic give you the opportunity to leverage your time focusing on tasks that provide utility or pleasure to your life as a whole. Again, these public transport drivers are aware of certain short cuts and routes (unknown to regular commuters) that help them escape some areas of traffic.
Relax

Saying that the Onitsha traffic is exasperating and infuriating is an understatement. However, if you try to force your way through traffic and carry an aggressive style you will end up stressing yourself even more. When you find yourself at the point of frustration and anger, rather than banging on the wheel, making faces, muttering hateful curses under your breath, try to take a deep breath, as deep inhalation has a way of lowering stress levels, making it easier to deal with the gridlock.

5 Ways To Identify Fake Android Apps

5 Ways To Identify Fake Android Apps

Many of us use our smartphones to download all kinds of apps. The shortcoming here is that you don't know if these apps are original or not. In fact, fake apps can make your phone vulnerable to hacking. So, before you download the next app, Jumia Travel share tips that can help you identify fake apps. You are encouraged to download the apps on the Google play store.

Research the developer

There are thousands of apps that are free to download. Before you download the app, you should do a bit of research about the developer. That means you should Google them. If there is nothing about them on the internet, you shouldn't download it.

Check the number of downloads

The number of downloads can also help you in making the decision if you should install a particular app or not. Original apps notwithstanding of their level of popularity will have been downloaded more than a million times. If the number is in hundreds, don't bother yourself.

Read reviews

Sometimes, apps may not have a million downloads but it is original. To get more clarity on this, you should read the reviews of others who have downloaded and used the apps. You can install if there are more positive reviews.

Check user ratings

This is perhaps the simplest way to identify if an app is fake or not. You just check the user ratings which is between 1 and 5. The higher the ratings and the number of people who rate the app, the better the chances that the app is original.

Design and features

Some apps give themselves away by their design. If you look closely at their designs and read the features, you will discover that it may be a cloned app or fake. If you have any doubts, you should avoid the app or get more information about the app.
