Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta has announced that he and his cabinet will take a pay cut to help bring down the government’s wage bill.President Kenyatta said that he and his deputy William Ruto would take a 20% cut while other ministers would have their pay reduced by 10%.Foreign trips, he said, would be kept to a minimum.
Mr Kenyatta also urged Kenyan MPs, who are among the highest paid in Africa, to accept cuts.Correspondents say the issue of politicians’ pay is a highly sensitive issue in Kenya.Mr Kenyatta said the government was spending close to $4.6bn (£2.7bn) in salaries, leaving only $2.3bn for development.
“We need to deal with this monster if we are to develop this nation otherwise sooner or later we will become a nation that only collects taxes to pay ourselves,” President Kenyatta said.He was speaking at the end of a cabinet retreat near Mount Kenya that was reviewing progress made one year since he was elected.Mr Kenyatta announced a month after his election that he would make reducing Kenya’s ballooning public sector wage bill a priority.He said it was “unsustainable” and weighed on the national budget.

Benue State government has disclosed plans to scale down the wages of civil servants and public officers, following the dwindling resources accruing to the state from the federation accountThe state governor, Dr Gabriel Suswam, who disclosed this yesterday at Government House Banquet Hall, Makurdi, where he signed the 2014 appropriation bill of N108billion into law, told lawmakers that the only way the government would bring back the striking primary school teachers who had been on strike for the past four months, back to class, was to cut down the wages of civil servants and bring it at par with the salaries of teachers.The governor said he implemented the new minimum wage to civil servants thinking that the excess crude oil that was coming then would continue.According to him, ‘as at the time of the agitation for the implementation of new minimum wage by labour we were having excess crude oil constantly that made me to approve the salary structure brought to me which is one of the highest in the country’.He said: “For instance, before the new minimum wage Permanent Secretary and Directors were receiving N150,000 and N50,000 respectively but with the new minimum wage the salary jumped to N400,000 and N150,000 respectively.”
“As our financial position stand now, there is no way we can sustain that salary structure, so we are going to scale down the salary of workers or else every activity of government will be brought to a halt because right now the wage bill of the state civil servant is N2.8billion while the average allocation to the state since last year stands at N3.2billion including VAT.”

The streets surrounding the hotel were blocked off by motorcycle cops until the First Lady and her massive entourage entered the hotel. Kim Kardashian and Kanye West are reportedly set to tie the knot on May 24 according to People Magazine .The report claims the two will get married in front of approximately 150 people and the ceremony will be held in Paris.
Kardashian and West have not publicly confirmed their wedding date. West proposed the same day as Kardashian's 33rd birthday. The couple has a daughter together named North West.
This will be the third marriage for Kardashian and the first for West. She was previously married to NBA player Kris Humphries. Her divorce from Humphries was finalised in June. Kardashian's first marriage to record producer Damon Thomas lasted from 2000 to 2004.
Kardashian has said in previous interviews that she will change her name to Kim Kardashian West after the two wed.
Vanguard correspondent, who visited the scene, saw the terrified parents rushing to the school to verify their children’s condition.
The incidents was said to have occurred at about 12:40 pm while the students were still in their classes.
It has been learnt that one of the students is in critical condition at the Intensive Care Unit.
One of the traders, who was outside waiting for someone, narrates:
“Suddenly, me and my friends, who were standing beside me, inhaled the chemical immediately it was discharged. It maybe from the complex or outside since this is an industrial area. Immediately, I developed difficulty in breathing. At this moment, I am still struggling to breath.”
According to the gathered information, the victims are responding well to the treatment. However, the school has been shut indefinitely.
She was on her way to the office around Pen Cinema area of Agege when the incident happened on Wednesday.P.M.NEWS investigation revealed that sh*ttu accused Mrs. Abimbola of not obeying the traffic light and ordered her to come out of her car.
A senior official of LASTMA who pleaded for anonymity also told reporter that sh*ttu has been tried internally and was subsequently dismissed from LASTMA and handed over back to the police for prosecution.
“We have conducted a board room trial for him and he has been dismissed from the service. We have also handed him over back to the police for prosecution. We do not condone such act in LASTMA,’’ said the source.
Former Super Eagles striker, Daniel Amokachi, who is now assistant to coach Stephen keshi, is a father of a grown up twins (two boys) who are matured enough to represent the country any time soon.
The Amokachi's twins, Kalim and Nazim, on Wednesday were at the Super Eagles'camp in Atlanta, Georgia to give their support to the team ahead of early Thursday's morning friendly match against Mexico.
Before becoming assistant to Keshi, Amokachi managed Nigerian club Nasarawa United and later Enyimba of Aba.
On 10 April 2008 Amokachi was re-appointed to Nigeria's national team, the Super Eagles, as assistant coach to Shuaibu Amodu.
