APC sets up panel to examine Buhari’s demand, says elongation of Oyegun’s tenure stands

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has set up a committee to advise it on the position of President Muhammadu Buhari that the extension of the tenure of the national working committee (NWC) be cancelled.

The decision to extend the tenure of the NWC led by John Oyegun and other executives across the 36 states was taken at the national executive council (NEC) meeting in February.

The NEC had resolved to extend the tenure of the NWC by a year, with effect from June.
But speaking at the party’s NEC meeting on Tuesday, Buhari said the tenure extension is against the constitution of the party.

“On my own part, I have taken some time to review and seek advice on the resolution and what I have found is that it contravenes our party constitution and the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” he said.

Buhari also spoke on the need to avoid litigation.

Briefing journalists after the NEC meeting, Bolaji Abdullahi, spokesman of the party, said stakeholders have agreed that a technical committee be set up to look into the matter and advise the party on the way forward.

“You know that any issue that goes to court is sub-judicial. Then, that also presented its own complications so the NEC decided to set up a small team that will advise the party on the way forward,” he said.

“There is a technical committee that is looking at it.

“At the moment, there is no decision taken. So, the position of NEC still stands from the last meeting. That position may change tomorrow but as it is today, that is the position of NEC.”

'Address Nigerians in a civil manner ,don't to see party’s critics as enemies- APC warns States spokesmen.

National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Malam Bolaji Abdullahi, has warned spokesmen of state chapters to address Nigerians in a civil manner and not to see the party’s critics as enemies.

He spoke in Abuja on Friday at the opening of a two-day External Communication and Social Media Workshop organised by the party and the International Republican Institute (IRI).

“As a party that was in the opposition, we went round the country asking people to vote for us and made promises; people will now hold us to account for those promises.

“They will recall that we were a party that was in opposition and that there were things we said as opposition that presumed that we were operating on high moral grounds.

“Now that we are in government, they will want to hold us to the same, if not higher standard, and they will ask questions”, he said.

Abdullahi added that while some persons would ask nicely, others may not, and cautioned, therefore, that the party`s spokespersons should not see such persons as enemies.

“One thing that is clear to me is that my job will be easier if I do not see anyone who criticises the party as its enemy,’’ he said, adding that he took every criticism as well-intentioned, while sticking to available facts.

He charged the spokesperson to see the workshop as an opportunity for them to share knowledge on how they could work better while supporting one another and advised them to remain civil even when the opposition operated like they were in a state of war.

“As a party in government, there is a level of temperament that is expected of you since the house belongs to you,’’ he said.

APC suspends national convention

The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), has postponed its mini-convention, which was scheduled to hold April 29.

However, the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the party, will meet on April 25. The NEC will take place after a national caucus meeting, which holds April 24.
This was confirmed by APC National Chairman, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun while speaking with journalists at the party’s headquarters in Abuja.
He stated that the new date for the convention will be confirmed at the NEC meeting.
“Well, the party would hold a caucus meeting on April 24, NEC on April 25 and it is NEC that would decide the date for the convention,” Oyegun said.
The April 29 date for the mini convention, was set after a consultative meeting with APC Governors at the National Secretariat of the party last month.

APC Governors to remove Okorocha as Chairman

The All Progressives Congress (APC) Governors are set to remove Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha, as chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum (PGF) and replace him with a Governor from the South West.

Daily Trust reports that the two second-term Governors from the South West who might replace Okorocha, are Governor Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State and his Ogun State counterpart, Ibikunle Amosun.

According to a source, the APC Governors are not happy with Okorocha, who they say has failed to provide a proper sense of direction to their forum.

“Rochas is only interested in the ceremonial aspects of being APC governors’ chairman. At any public event, especially at the State House or where the president or vice president is present, he is in a hurry to assert himself as the PGF chairman and position himself close to the president or vice president for a photo op. But that is as far as his chairmanship goes,” he said.

“He is not interested in charting a clear program for the forum, in harmonising the views of his colleagues or in making the forum an important player in the scheme of things. Even the opposition PDP Governors’ Forum has a higher profile and more political relevance than the APC Governors Forum. It is for these and many other reasons that they want to change him.”

He, however, denied that the move was a ploy by South West APC Governors to snatch leadership from Okorocha, the only APC governor in the South East.

“At a time when our ruling party is facing many leadership problems, such as the ineffectiveness of the national leadership and the continuous tussle between the Presidency and the APC-controlled Senate, APC governors could play an important role in filling the vacuum and reuniting the party behind a common ideal. However, they are unable to do so because their forum’s chairman is even less effective than the national secretariat,” he added.

Oni To PDP: You Will Go Down In Rumbles

Deputy National Chairman, South, of the governing the All Progressives Congress (APC), Engr. Segun Oni has stated that no party would be bigger than it even as insinuations of a mega party rages.

Oni stated this on Wednesday in Abuja at the APC National Secretariat in reaction to the allegations of formation of a mega party all so added that PDP will go down in rumbles.

Speaking about PDP and mega party, he said, “If PDP dies, there will be another opposition party. What I believe is not visible is the idea of calling it a mega party, because no party that will emerge  will be bigger than APC, that ‘s what l’m saying. I have always predicted from the beginning that, long before now, the PDP will go into rumbles and that it will thereafter ground to powder. So, we are not  saying that the PDP will not come back, we are saying, don’t call whatever political party that is coming a mega party, it cannot be bigger than the APC”.

The APC national officer called on Nigerians and the organized Labour to commend the President, Muhammadu Buhari for the changes he is introducing into governance.

According to him, one of such changes was to make sure that workers every where in the country get their salaries as at when due.

He said, “Nigerians should expect that the economy will get better. Nigerians should also expect that the human face of this party will continue to show. Let me tell you something that you Journalists have not noticed, or pretended not to have noticed. Since the coming in of Buhari’s administration, federal government has been trying to encourage the state governments to meet their obligation to their staff by giving series of bail-out.  The federal government can afford to pretend that after everybody have taken the allocation, that’s all. And over the years, Nigeria has become a country where government, not just government at state level, even at federal level, owe people at will, especially staff. I believe the moral signals that Buhari is sending to all of us is that, if Nigeria will be Nigeria, staff salaries should be paid to all. And I’m sure with the series of bail-out, everything will be covered and this government will encourage people never to allow things to degenerate to this level.

“So, when we talk of Change, that is Change. There was a time when I was growing up, we did not even know when our teachers were paid. Nobody ever complained that salaries were delayed. It was a mentality and somehow, the mentality of government not caring to meet  it’s obligation became so rampant. Now, that mentality of the government meeting it’s as at when due, is what President Buhari is bringing back. What can be more than that?

“So, if anybody is saying, this change we haven’t seen it, you’re already seeing it. You are seeing it, but you are not applauding it. The Nigerian Labour Congress has not applauded it, it should encourage the President to do more”.

We’ve Dismantled PDP’s Rigging Machine - Onu

MINISTER for Science and Technology and leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ebonyi State, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu, yesterday, disclosed that his party has dismantled all rigging machinery of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the country.

Dr. Onu, who addressed party faithful in his hometown, Uburu, in Ohaozara Local Government Area of the state during his New Year party for both APC members and stakeholders in the state said the era the opposition party held sway through alleged rigging strategies had gone.

He charged party members and stakeholders to be focused and dedicated to the party’s ongoing registration exercise, adding that the APC was set to defeat the ruling PDP in the state in 2019.

“Let me assure you that those instruments they use in writing results are no longer in their control.

We will give total defeat to the PDP. We must remain focused and if we don’t generate enough registration numbers, the national party will not take us serious.

“We must make sure we have strong men and women in every polling unit in the state; the era of writing results is behind us because we are in control.”

“Why must you work for them (PDP) to be where they are, when you can be there yourself. We don’t want to be the crying baby of Ebonyi State.

Let us rededicate ourselves to the party. We are doing it for ourselves, our people and our children. There is no reason we will not win any election even local government council election.

We want to drain the PDP in Ebonyi. We must accord our new entrant in the party respect and welcome them with an open hand “It is clear to me that this is the right omen that tomorrow will be bright for Ebonyi State. We must thank God
for what He did in 2016.

Ebonyi requires the right leadership that will take it to the comity of states; we believe that will happen when APC takes over power in 2019.”

We are not threatened by mega party – APC Chairman

The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, has declared that the party is not threatened by the formation of a “mega party” ahead of 2019.
He said the APC is rather focused on its mission which had been made difficult by the current economic situation worldwide.

Oyegun, who spoke with journalists on Tuesday, said those behind the formation of the mega-party should be encouraged in order to have a formidable opposition to the ruling APC.

He absolved some leaders of the APC of being behind the formation of a new party.

The APC chairman said he has met with some leaders of the party including the leadership of the National Assembly and a former vice president, adding that “we are waiting for the arrival of Asiwaju Bola Tinubu so that we can also meet with him and have meaningful discussion because he is a well-respected leader of this party.”

“We don’t feel threatened at all. No mega party will survive the APC. I don’t know where the name mega party suddenly came from in the lexicon of politics in this country. We will infact encourage a mega party, because with the gradual collapse of PDP, we want a party that can make us sit upright and be on our toes in terms of delivery of services to our people.

“A party that will make us feel challenged, that will make democracy real and offer the people a real choice. We are not threatened at all. We are focused on our mission made difficult by the current economic situation worldwide, which of course is compounded by the collapse of the oil market. We are reforming this country, reforming it ethically, morally and economically by building a fresh economic base which will no longer depend on the extractive industry which does not involve the people.”
