Film maker, Pascal Atuma floats record label, signs two teenagers from Benue State.

Atuma with the kid stars

Canadian-based Nigerian film maker and show promoter, Pascal Atuma has floated a record label known as Tabic Records to up the game in the Nigerian music scene.
The record label, which  was  launched last Friday in Lagos, kicks off with teenage singers,  Amani Boss and AOD, both from Benue State.

According to Atuma, the record label is a social enterprise designed to give less privileged youth the opportunity to hone their talent and develop into world class artistes.

Atuma said that discovered the kid-stars during the Oturkpo Got Talent competition organized by David Mark Foundation.

“We did not set out to go into music. I went to Otukpo Benue State to direct a talent show powered by David Mark Foundation. I was there for a month and a half, and during that time, I discovered five young talents. When I went back to Canada, I dream about them almost every week,” she recounted.

The filmmaker said  that “when I came back to Canada, I tried to use my connection to get them into record labels but most of them requested development funds to help them.

“In April, I decided to put them in a studio in Makurdi. Two of them, 13 and 16, are exceptional. I decided to float a record label to use my money and connections to help them, develop them with the permission of their parents.” He said the children are from poor families who live from hand to mouth.

“I relocated the teenagers to Lagos to be able to work with the producers that can produce songs for them that Nigerians want,” Atuma said.

DAVIDO SHADES CAROLINE DANJUMA IN NEW MUSIC "FIA" [DOWNLOAD]

On his new single titled “Fia,” Davido subliminally shaded actress and girlfriend of late Tagbo, Caroline Danjuma. The two celebrities had a face-off that led them to the police for resolution. The issue emanated from the Caroline Danjuma’s Instagram post, accusing Davido of being involved in Tagbo’s death.

The issue seem to have been resolved by the Nigerian police, with Davido vindicated and Caroline Danjuma embracing peace. But as expected, Davido addressed the issue on his latest single, Fia. His lyrics on the song, seem to be a shade to the beautiful actress. On the song, Davido said:

“Caroline save your drama I dont need it, (its) for the soap opera.

Holla holla Mr. Olopa I’m not hear to cause wahala o.

Hello diva save your drama, you don’t need it in your soap opera o….”

Though the artiste humorously denied he was referring to Caroline Danjuma, we all know it is not true.

NEW MUSIC: BABA DEE - IT'S ALL ABOUT YOU [DOWNLOAD]

You remember Baba Dee right? The Dancehall artiste who has serenaded us with hit songs since the 90s with songs like "so di e", "shorty", "gum body", "lau lau", are just few of his popular.

After a short hiatus from music, Baba Dee is back with a classic vintage "Baba dee style". I love every part of this song, from the beat, to the arrangement, to vocals and chorus; it is a touch of genius.

Did i forget to tell you that it was Baba Dee who introduced Sound sultan to music and helped him get to limelight? What more can a senior brother do for his younger brother?

NEW MUSIC: BERRY D - ROLEX (FREESTYLE)

This song did not get to be made out of necessity, rather it was normal chilling in the studio when Berry D decided to jump on this beat for a freestyle when the producer played the beat. It is hard to believe that this is actually a freestyle. The track could easily pass for a well written song prepared to top charts.

AU, AFRIMA Jury Unveil AFRIMA 2017 Nominees List

African Union Commission (AUC) and the 13-man jury of the All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA) has unveiled the nominees list for the 2017 edition of AFRIMA, the continent’s biggest music awards on August 8, 2017, in Ikeja, Lagos State
The highly anticipated nominees list for the 2017 AFRIMA Awards which has the biggest acts on the continent was announced in the presence of officials of the AUC, members of the AFRIMA jury comprising of Charles Tabu (DRC), Robert E. Ekukole (Cameroun). Christian Syren (South Africa), David Tayorault (Cote de Voire), Olisa Adibua (Nigeria), Joett Namatta (Tanzania), Tabu Osusa (Kenya), Hadja Kobélé Keita (Guinea) and Omar Es Saidi (Morocco), members of the international committee of AFRIMA, past AFRIMA winners and nominees, media executives and other stakeholders in the creative and entertainment industries in Africa.

According to Cyren, the juror from Southern Africa, 4,816 entries from African music professionals and music artistes were received at the close of a two-month entry submission window on July 17.

He described the nominations process as rigorous and thorough, as he emphasised on the jury’s resolve to be fair and transparent in line with the AFRIMA values of fairness, authenticity, creativity, excellence, integrity, transparency (FACEIT).

Charles Tabu, AFRIMA’s juror from Democratic Republic of Congo, harped on the need for music lovers in Africa to explore different genre of music from all regions on the continent.

Commenting on a question of the criteria of nominees, Ekukole from Cameroon, representing Central Africa, reiterated that “the nominees were picked based on production quality, talent and creativity, melody, originality and authenticity, composition and arrangement. It has to do with the quality of music not on the number of views from any online video platform, some songs from certain regions have more than half a billion views and would have garnered the awards based on such sentiment, but it is not so. It has to do with quality.”

Head of Culture Division, AUC, Ms. Angela Martins, noted that the adjudication process was a comprehensive and superb work of the jurors.

She also observed the great improvement of the submissions this year, as it is more impressive than previous years. “This robust submission this year clearly shows the appreciation and recognition of the music awards,” as she noted that the AUC is geared towards investing in the youths by involving them in the African Union 2063 Agenda, which intends to make the youths evolve a desire and expertise in the needed developmental facets of Africa in all areas. Ms. Martins also reiterated the AU and AFRIMA’s objectives of unity among African artistes and the need for continental integration while celebrating its rich music and heritage.

The best female artistes and best male artistes of the five regions have been released while the nominees in the continental categories will be announced onAugust 11,2017.

Public voting for the nominees in the different categories of the awards will open on August 21 on www.afrima.org.

SWEDISH SINGER PERFORMS NAKED ON STAGE

Fans who attended this year's Lollapalooza event in Chicago got more than what they bargained for when Swedish singer, Tove Lo, who has been described as the 'Queen of body confidence' for always putting up very racy performance, went topless on stage.

The 29-year-old who this year alone has flashed her breasts at the Coachella, the California Music and Arts festival, and Sydney, performed topless on stage at the Lollapalooza event.

In a 2016 interview with NME, Tove said during her teenage years she was very uncomfortable when her body started developing.

'I haven’t talked about it a lot, but in my early teens, when my body started to develop I hated everything about it. I was very uncomfortable.'

According to her, being a performer has helped her become comfortable in her own skin.

'It’s a liberating and amazing thing to be comfortable with my body', she told the publication.

Tove also explained that her reason for baring her chest onstage is to dispel the idea that women being naked are inherently sexual, and to promote equality of the sexes.

'I want to get to a place where women can be naked the same way that men can – funny naked or naked just to be naked.'

I’ve always believed Tekno would be successful, am not envious of his success- Iyanya

Nigerian singer and winner of the first season of Project Fame West Africa, Iyanya Onoyom Mbuk, known by his mononym Iyanya, has insisted he is not jealous of Tekno’s success and says he is not surprised at how his career has risen.

In an interview with Saturday Beats, When asked if he is envious of Tekno’s success, the singer simply smiled and said he had always believed Tekno whom he dubbed ‘Golden boy’ would succeed in life.

 According to him;

I am so happy for Tekno and his success and I am not surprised. At a point, we were all together and this is a young guy that works very hard. He worked every night and when we woke up in the morning, he would still be working.

So, I am not surprised that he has finally made it. I believe this is just the beginning and there are many more things to come his way. When he came to Triple MG, he sprayed his hair gold and anytime I wanted to call him, I referred to him as golden boy. I am very happy he is doing great things.’

How would I be envious of somebody that Ubi Franklin and I raised from our platform? We used our platform to promote him and I cannot be envious of him; there is no need for that. People would always try to say negative things but we are very fine.”

Iyanya is known for his signature dance moves especially which include whining his waist seductively, a gesture that endears him to women. When the singer was asked whether he has stopped, he simply said that he still does that.

I have not reduced the way I whine my waist. If you watch my shows and my new video you would realise that I have not reduced the way I whine my waist. I still entertain people especially the ladies with my sexy dance moves,” he said.

'I will sue 2Face soon' - Blackface vows

BlackfaceNaija, real name Ahmedu Augustine, was a founding member of the Nigerian band, Plantashun Boiz, that he formed in 2000 with 2face, Innocent Idibia; and Faze, Chibuzor Oji.

After Plantashun Boiz split in 2004, BlackfaceNaija led a solo musical career. He released the hip-hop album Ghetto Child in 2004 collaborating with a number of artistes. He also recorded a full album for his crew, D Tribunal, called What We Are.

In 2013, he made a collaborative album 200 with Maine Eazz. Sadly, there has been a long-standing beef between the dancehall veteran, and 2face. In January 2016, BlackfaceNaija in a series of tweets lashed out at 2face and his manager accusing them of stealing his intellectual property and even threatening to take them to court.

Ever since, BlackfaceNaija has refused to renege on his statements.

In an interview with PremiumTimes, the talented artiste disclosed that he will take legal actions against ex-labelmate, 2face for allegedly stealing his songs.

He said;

“Yes, I have; and my legal team is working on that, as that’s the best way to go. When I accused them, they lied and said its ‘unfortunate’. I said they took my song and then even said maybe my account was hacked.

Well, if you thought so why didn’t you pick up your phone and say “Yo black.. . What’s going on?’

“But, no they won’t because they wanted to steal it and it backfired, and they trying to act ‘holy’ so they make flimsy excuses. 2face and his manager planned all of that.

“2face sang my song (Let Somebody Love You) and featured an American artiste, Bridget Kelly. His manager published it without my permission. Till today they haven’t deemed it fit to tell the world that they tried to assassinate my character in the media but that couldn’t be justice and they know.

“So, the court is our only option as they keep avoiding meetings thinking that with time it will all fade off. But, they know not what tomorrow holds and neither do I.”
