Disrupted APC rally: Ortom denies involvement, sue for peace

Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State has denied any involvement in the All Progressives Congress (APC) disrupted rally at his Gbajimgba home town in Guma local government area of the state
Ortom who reacted to the Friday incident through his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Tahav Agerzua, also reiterated his commitment to peaceful elections in the state as he called on all stakeholders to eschew violence and conduct that could trigger a breakdown of law and order.
He urged his supporters in particular to exercise restraint even in the face of extreme provocation and to report any person or group who breaches the peace to law enforcement agents.
The governor said that it became necessary to reiterate his position following accusations that he stopped the rally of an opposition party in Gbajimba.
Ortom recalled that no one hindered the opposition from using the IBB Square in Makurdi nor disrupted their campaign flag off in Makurdi which is the state capital, stressing that attempts to link him with a failed campaign effort in his home local government area in order to smear his name was therefore baseless and unfounded.

He therefore stated categorically that he did not instruct or direct any person to disrupt or stop any rally.

The governor further condemned the destruction of his campaign materials in Gbajimba and Daudu in Guma as well as several other places including Wannune in Tarka and Lessel in Ushongo local government areas as he called on the police and other security agents to arrest and prosecute those found culpable.

Ortom added that he does not have any antecedent of violence in his close to 40 years in politics and has never resorted to violence and the use of thugs to prosecute his campaigns or win elections.

Onnoghen: Shariah council backs Buhari

The  Supreme Council for Shariah in Nigeria,  (SCSN), Kaduna state has thrown its weight behind President Muhammad Buhari over the suspension of the Chief Justice of the Federation, Justice Walter Onnonghen on the alleged failed declaration of assets.

This was even as it called on the South-South governors and the Coalition of United Political Parties, (CUPP)  to exercise absolute restraint and let justice prevail on the matter.

The Muslim body in a press conference led by its Chairman,  Sheikh Sambo Rigachikun and the secretary,  Engr. AbdurRahman Hassan on Wednesday warned that further agitations against the suspension of justice Onnoghen as the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN)  could further polarize the fragile country,  rather than uniting it.

They called on the Federal government not to succumb to any form of pressure from ‘some quarters,’  that may amount to the breakdown of law and order and do all it could within the constitutional provision to lay the issue to rest.

The Muslim body said it is expected of the   National Judicial Council,  (NJC)  to discharge its duty at all cost by making an appropriate decision against any judicial officer that is unfit and improper to be a judicial officer in the land, as the trust is on them.

They warned those attempting to give the appointment of Acting Chief justice,  Tanko Muhammad and other happenings in the judiciary a religious colouration to be mindful of the fact that;  “that is a costly trend,  its an ill wind that will blow no one good, in this country.”

According to the  Shariah Council: ” It is disheartening that the same Senior Advocates that saw the suspension and removal of Justice Salami are now faulting the similar action against Justice Onnonghen.  How can a Senior Advocate degrade himself to think within the whim of his ethnicity and religious sentiment?  This is unfortunate.

“It is quite fresh in our memory when the then President of the Court of Appeal,  Justice Isa Ayo Salami faced the same fate of suspension and removal not on allegation if corruption from his side under Jonathan’s administration, but because he tried in his own way to uphold justice,  unfortunately, it did not go down well with the then administration.

“It is a fact that the same administration also suspended the then CBN Governor Sanusi Lamido Sanusi for whistleblowing on some missing funds.  Heavens did not fall. No Muslim protested that his own was removed illegally, simply because he acted patriotically in favour of our dear nation,” the Muslim body recalled.

The council, however, urged all Muslims and the public in general, to be law abiding and pray fervently for peaceful coexistence in the country.

Man divorces wife for insisting on voting for Buhari

A man, Abdullahi Yada’u, has divorced his wife after failing to convince her not to vote for President Muhammadu Buhari in next month’s presidential election.

Mr Yada’u, a resident of Kanam Local Government Area of Plateau State,  divorced his wife, Hafsat Suleiman, because she insisted on voting for Mr Buhari.

The president is seeking re-election on the platform of his APC.

Mr Yada’u stated that previously, both of them supported Mr Buhari in the 2015 elections. But this time, he felt disappointed with the administration and decided not to vote for him again, he said.
“I told her that she must not vote for him but she insisted which led to a quarrel which attracted the attention of our neighbours, I slapped her and told her to choose between voting for Buhari and staying with me. She ran away.

“Later her parents called me and I narrated to them what transpired between us. But still my wife insisted on voting for Mr Buhari, that’s how I divorced her in the presence of her parents.”

Ibrahim Suleiman, the wife’s elder brother, said they felt very sad over what transpired between the couple. We decided to deal with him but our father stopped us from joining issues with him.

“He really disgraced us. They have been having issues even in the previous election. She is the one that convinced him to vote for Buhari, now he insisted on voting for Mr Atiku Abubakar. We decided that we will not allow her to go back to him again,” he said.

Mr Abubakar, the candidate of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, is the main challenger to Mr Buhari of the ruling All Progressives Party in next month’s election.
The presidential election is scheduled for February 16.

The spokesman for the House of Representatives and Chairman of the House Committee on Media and Public Affairs, Abdulrazak Namdas, has denied allegations that Reps members were collating signatures to impeach the Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo.

Namdas told journalists on Wednesday that he is not aware of such process in the House.
According to him, “There is nothing like impeachment before the House of Representatives as I speak now.
“As far as I am concerned, I speak for the House, and there is nothing like impeachment before the House for consideration. I don’t speak for members, I speak for the House.

Namdas’ reaction comes amidst allegation that some of the lawmakers are collating signatures to commence the impeachment of Vice-President Osinbajo.

Agbonayinma alleged that political gladiators were ‎sponsoring fake news against Osinbajo.

The publisher of an online news portal, thefactreporters.com, Obong Ndutima has been arrested by the Nigeria Police Force, Brainnews report.

Thefactreporters.com hosts local news content and its a publishing website based in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom state capital.

It was learnt that men of the Criminal Investigations Department, (CID) arrested him around the early hours of Monday, 3 December 2018.

The spokesperson for the Police Command in Uyo, DSP Odiko MacDon confirmed the arrest.

Odiko said, Obong Ndutim was arrested in connection with an alleged publishing of fake and damaging stories-cum-blackmailing of a distinguished Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Godswill Akpabio.

According to reports, it was gathered that the arrest followed a petition written by Senator Akpabio, alleging that Obong Ndutim’s website published an offensive and libelous story alleging that the senator was involved in money laundering with some Nigerian banks: titled ‘CBN probes Akpabio’s N865b unrecorded despite in three banks.’

The police said the senator had earlier filed a complaint against the accused at the Uyo Police Command weeks back.

Rent your own crowd from Sudan, Sani Shehu replies El-Rufai

Senator Sani Shehu, representing Kaduna central district, has advised the All Progressives Congress to rent their campaign crowd from Sudan.
Shehu said this in response to the claim of the Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, that the Peoples Democratic Party rented the crowd, which attended their North East presidential campaign kick-off in Sokoto State from Niger Republic.
On his verified Twitter handle, Shehu said, “They rent theirs from Niger because of proximity; You can rent yours from Sudan because of affinity.”
El-Rufai had on Tuesday during the inauguration of 69-member Kaduna APC Campaign Council said, “Thieves have ganged-up against President Muhammadu Buhari. Yesterday, they were in Sokoto and they rented a crowd from Niger Republic just to show people that they have supporters because Sokoto people refused to come out.

“So, when it is time to launch President Muhammadu Buhari’s campaign in Kaduna, people should come for the whole world to see that it is not Niger Republic people that are disguising as Nigerians.”
Shehu and El-Rufai have been at loggerheads over the former’s political ambition.

Why we removed Jimi Agbaje’s billboards – LASAA

The Lagos State Signage and Advertisement Agency, LASAA, has defended the removal of the billboards and posters of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, governorship candidate, Jimi Agbaje
Agbaje had reported the issue to the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Edgar Imohimi.
Speaking at a Security/Stakeholders Meeting with INEC and Political Parties summoned by the Lagos Police Command on Wednesday, the General Manager of LASAA, Mr. Mobolaji Sanusi, explained that the PDP candidate did not seek the permission of the agency unlike his counterpart in the All Progressives Congress, APC, before mounting the billboards and pasting the poster especially on the Lagos Island.

According to him, there are rules and regulations guiding the pasting of bills and posters in Lagos State which must be strictly adhered to.

He explained that the agency clean up the state on weekly basis to remove any poster or billboards mounted illegally across the State.
Meanwhile, the police boss advised that all participants and political candidates should always engage the agency before pasting and mounting billboards and take the advantage agency’s discounts.

He said, “Lagos State is politically matured. The removal of the billboards and poster could not have been an intentional act and that is why I have invited the LASAA MD to be here today in order to clear the air on the issue.”
However, some other parties accused LASAA of bias and that it favours APC more than other parties in the state.

UN launches $25bn aid for Nigeria, others

UN Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres

The UN has launched a global humanitarian appeal of $25 billion to provide support to no less than 93 million people in need of humanitarian assistance in Nigeria and other countries in 2019.

Speaking at the launch of a major annual analysis of global humanitarian needs in Geneva, Emergency Relief Coordinator Mark Lowcock said that 132 million people would need assistance next year.

He said conflict had pushed tens of millions of people into a situation where they were in urgent need of help, adding the appeal for funds could top $25 billion to support life-saving aid projects in over 40 countries next year.

Of that number, the UN and its partner organisations aim to support 93.6 million, noting while conflict was the main cause, climate-related risks such as drought and tropical storms were also significant contributors to the number of people in crisis.

Lowcock said: “Something like one person in 70 around the world is caught up in crisis and urgently needs humanitarian help or protection.

“We have a larger number of people displaced, mostly by conflict than we have seen in the world before, nearly 70 million.”

The UN’s Global Humanitarian Appeal for 2019 amounts to $21.9 billion; it is expected to increase to $25 billion, once Syria’s financial needs have been calculated.

As of mid-November, donors have provided a record $13.9 billion in funding, which is about 10 per cent more than at the same time last year, according to the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs(OCHA).

“The country with the biggest problem in 2019 is going to be Yemen,” he said, before insisting that the UN’s coordinated response plans helped the humanitarian community “to deliver, more and better” to millions of people.

Beyond Yemen, needs will remain “exceptionally high” in Syria, the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), Ethiopia, Nigeria and South Sudan, Lowcock said.

Every month in 2018, humanitarians have reached eight million Yemenis with food assistance and 5.4 million Syrians with supplies, medical assistance and protection, Lowcock explained.

“This is happening even as threats to the safety of aid workers are on the rise,” the UN relief chief noted.

People’s insecurity has also worsened significantly in Afghanistan because of drought, political instability and an influx of returning refugees, according to the Global Humanitarian Overview 2019,  Republic (CAR).

In another finding, the OCHA report showed that the average UN humanitarian response now lasted more than nine years; in 2014, the norm was 5.2 years.

In 2018, moreover, nearly three-quarters of people receiving assistance are in countries that have been affected by humanitarian crises for seven years or more.

In other finding, the OCHA report also highlighted that food insecurity had increased in recent years after a long period in which it had improved.

An increasing number of crises had also translated into gender inequality, the report noted, with girls in conflict settings more than 2.5 times more likely than boys to be out of school.

Fr Mbaka unhappy Buhari didn't do a project for his church after winning 2015 election

Fiery Catholic Priest and the Spiritual Director of the Adoration Catholic Prayer Ministry, Enugu Nigeria, Rev. Fr. Ejike Mbaka has publicly expressed his displeasure over President Buhari's inability to do a project in his church.

Speaking during the 2018 harvest and bazaar celebration at his Adoration Ground in Emene, he said it was bad and scandalous before the Holy Spirit that after their prayers on Adoration altar made Buhari the President, he had refused to come and do a project for his ministry as a way of thanking God.

Angry Mbaka further narrated how his ministry’s prayers saved Buhari from deadly sickness in 2015 and said anybody with Buhari’s ears should warn him that no one cheats God, that after he thinks he is healthy, his sickness may come in another form.

Speaking on Alhaji Abubakar Atiku, Fr. Mbaka said that if he continued on the same trajectory, he and his running mate would end in shame.

Speaking in Igbo, Mbaka said: “Ask Atiku if it is these steps that the cow will take to reach Umuahia.” Mbaka concluded by requesting that Atiku should reach out to Igbo leaders like Hon. Ike Ekweremadu and also come personally to adoration ground and do a project for them.” He also berated Atiku’s running mate, Mr. Peter Obi.

Though he said they had always supported Obi, he stated that Obi had not done anything for his church. He said God would bless Governor Dave Umahi of Ebonyi State and Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State and grant them second term for what they had done for him. Fr. Mbaka curiously withheld Obi’s blessing and said he would only release it after Obi had done a project for them.

Using Umahi as an example, Mbaka said: “Umahi donated 1,000 bags of rice and 1,000 tubers of yam to us, but it meant nothing to me until he handed N10 million cheque to me and promised to build a project for the ministry. This is the type of gesture we require from Obi”, he said.

Why we can’t arrest, prosecute Oshiomhole now – EFCC tells court

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has provided reasons it cannot arrest and prosecute former Governor of Edo State, Adams Oshiomhole now.

The anti-graft agency is challenging the jurisdiction of the Federal High Court in Abuja to compel it to arrest and prosecute Oshiomhole, over allegation that he diverted public funds to his personal use while in office as governor.
EFCC admitted that it has received petitions accusing the All Progressives Congress, APC, National Chairman of complicity in acts of corruption, but added that it was not under any obligation to report or give account of its investigations to any individual or under a timeline within which to carry out its functions.
The anti-graft agency, therefore, urged the high court to dismiss the suit that is seeking to invoke an order of mandamus to compel it to initiate criminal proceedings against the embattled APC Chairman.
The suit marked FHC/ABJ/CS/628/2018, was filed before the court by Edo State based cleric and activist, Bishop Osadolor Ochei.

The cleric wants the court to declare that EFCC has a statutory duty to investigate different petitions that contained allegations of financial recklessness against Oshiomhole.
The pastor told the court that Oshiomhole who was sued as the 2nd Respondent, while in office as Edo state governor, acquired properties in United States of America, South Africa and Dubai worth billions of U.S. dollars and far in excess of his legitimate income.
He alleged before the court that Oshiomhole built a sprawling mansion worth more than N10billion in his home town known as Iyamho, while in office.
The pastor told the court that “The said building was constructed by Verissimo, a South African Architectural outfit. The said house of the 2nd Respondent has swimming pools, water fountains, multiple theatres for cinema and live performances, huge event halls, bridges, manmade lake, lodges of different sizes amongst others.
“The said cost of building the mansion is well outside the 2nd Respondent’s legitimate income. The 2nd Respondent’s lifestyle and extent of the said property were not justified by his source of income.”
The pastor told the court that he sent a petition to the EFCC on November 4, 2016, where he detailed some corrupt practices he said the ex-governor was involved in.

He maintained that EFCC’s refusal to act on petitions containing “weighty allegations” against Oshiomhole, ran contrary to Section 15(5) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) which enjoined the State to abolish corrupt practices.
But the EFCC, in a preliminary objection that was signed by its team of lawyers led by the Head of its Legal and Prosecutions Department, Mr. G.K. Latona, challenged the locus- standi of the Applicant to file the action.
The anti-graft agency said it has discretion on how to use its available manpower to carry out investigations into petitions submitted to it.
“That investigation of cases is a holistic process which entails time, resources, inter-agency cooperation, interview of different persons and gathering of evidence over a long period of time depending on the nature of the case and other variables”, it told the court.
Besides, the Commission, in an 11-paragraphed affidavit that was deposed to by one of its staff, Mr. Yusuf Musa, told the court that it conducts its investigations “professionally and discreetly” before the arrest and prosecution of indicted persons.
“That 1st Respondent is a statutory body charged principally with the responsibility of investigation and prosecution of economic and financial crimes.
“That the 1st Respondent since its establishment In 2003 and till date receives numerous petitions daily in its eleven offices in various parts of the country against different persons both from within and outside Nigeria.

“That investigation into these numerous petitions and criminal complaints including intelligence reports are professionally and methodically carried out by the 1st Respondent in line with its staff strength and enabling statute.
“That 1st Respondent in carrying out its statutory functions of investigation and prosecution of economic and financial crimes, attends to all complaint discreetly and dispassionately without political, ethnic, religious and other extraneous considerations.

“That the 1st Respondent had strengthened the war against corruption with various initiatives amongst which is the Women Against Corruption Coalition and the encouragement of Whistle Blower Policy leading to several recoveries of illicit cash.

“That the 1st Respondent has discretion on how to use its available manpower to carry out investigations into petitions submitted to it.

“That Respondent is not under obligation to report or give account of its investigations to any individual or under a timeline within which to carry out its functions”, EFCC averred.
It said it would be in the interest of justice for the court to strike out the suit which it said lacked competency and constituted an abuse of the judicial process.
In a written address attached in support of the objection, EFCC, argued that granting an order for Oshiomhole’s arrest and prosecution as prayed for in the suit could occasion ” chaos and tumult” in the polity.

“We submit, with respect, that if this Honourable Court grants the reliefs of the Applicant, especially as it affects the 1st Respondent, that it wiIl open a deluge of applications with the over-all aim of making the Applicant a stooge of litigant who desire to dictate to the 1st Respondent how, when, where and against whom the 1st Respondent should proceed in the discharge of its functions. The chaos and tumult that this scenario may generate in the pointy can only be Imagine.
“It is inimical to the tenor and tenets of a democratic society for an agency such as the 1st Respondent to be directed or compelled to discharge its functions in a particular way or manner, a fortiori the 1st Respondent cannot be directed or compelled to carry out investigations or prosecution as dictated by the Applicant or anyone.

“We urge this Honourable Court to dismiss the Applicant’s application, same being unmeritorious and lacking in merit”, EFCC added.

It will be recalled that Oshiomhole had also queried the powers of the court to order EFCC to prosecute him on the basis of the suit.

While acknowledging the powers of the anti-graft EFCC to probe financial and economic crimes, Oshiomhole, through his lawyer, Mr. Damian Dodo, SAN, contended that the court could not okay him to be investigated on the strength of a petition he said was lodged against him since 2016.
He argued that the suit has become statute barred, saying the Applicant ought to have instituted the action within three months after the first petition was filed against him before the EFCC.

The APC Chairman noted that the cleric first wrote a letter to the EFCC on October 28, 2016, drawing its attention to the allegations of financial misappropriation he made against him.

He told the court that the Applicant wrote another letter that was received by the anti-graft agency on December 13, 2016, reminding it of his pending petition that was allegedly not acted upon by the EFCC.

“The action of the 1st Respondent (EFCC) which is being subjected to review by the instant proceedings for Judicial Review, last occurred on December, 2016, while the proceeding for Judicial Review was commenced on 13th June, 2018, eighteen months after the occurrence of the alleged failure being complained about.
“The suit is statute-barred by virtue of the facts stated above and the Applicant/Respondent’s right of action (if any) has become unenforceable”, Oshiomhole contended.

Oshiomhole insisted that the that cleric failed to show how actions he took while in office as Governor, “affected him over and above other residents and indigenes ot Edo State.

“This Honourable Court is robbed of jurisdiction to entertain this suit for failure of the Applicant/Respondent to commence this action within the time provided by extant rules of this Honourable Court and/or for failure to disclose locus standi to institute the action”, the former Governor added.
However, the trial Justice, Anwuli Chikere has fixed November 19 to commence hearing on the matter.

Nigerian Air Force bombs Boko Haram camps in Talala, kills many terrorists

The Nigerian Air Force said the Air Task Force, ATF, of the Operation Lafiya Dole has killed several Boko Haram terrorists in air strikes it conducted at Talala in Borno.

Ibikunle Daramola, the NAF Director of Public Relations and Information who disclosed this on Saturday in Abuja, said the operation was carried out on Friday.

Mr Daramola, an air commodore, said the operation was carried out following credible intelligence reports that the terrorists appeared to have relocated some of their fighters from the fringes of Lake Chad in Northern Borno to establish new camps along the Talala-Ajigin-Buk axis of the state.

“Series of intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance missions confirmed the presence of significant number of Boko Haram Terrorists fighters residing in makeshift shelters, camouflaged under thick vegetation on the outskirts of Talala.

“As a result, ATF dispatched two Nigerian Air Force (NAF) Alpha Jet aircraft to attack the camp in multiple waves, leading to destruction of some of the structures and killing of several terrorists, he said.

The spokesman said the NAF, working in concert with surface forces, would sustain the tempo of operations in order to destroy all remnants of the terrorists in Borno.

BUHARI HISTORICAL CERTIFICATE SAGA – DOYIN OKUPE

President Muhammadu Buhari on Friday received his attestation certificate from the West African Examination Council(WAEC), which has now sparked national debate.
While some supporters of the president, have maintained that, it was impossible for Buhari, a retired military officer, critics maintain the president never sat for the said examination.

However, former spokesman to former President Goodluck Jonathan, Doyin Okupe has published an exclusive history, by LT. Col. Idris Bako (Rtd) on Buhari’s certificate ‘saga’.
Read below:

EXCLUSIVE: BUHARI HISTORICAL CERTIFICATE SAGA

BY: LT. Col. Idris Bako (Rtd)
(NA Regular Course II Set)

I want to re-state categorically that Buhari has NO VERIFIABLE CERTIFICATE anywhere in the world.

1. WAEC/CAMBRIDGE GCE: – Buhari did not sit for the Cambridge examination in 1961 as his names (Muhammadu, Mohammed or Mohamed Buhari) is not in the UK Examination body’s List of candidates names from 1960-1962

2. His name(s) is also NOT on WAEC candidates names in both Ghana and Nigeria Offices from 1960-1962. Any attempt by Buhari or his agents to present any document to INEC representing WACE or GCE certificate may constitute an Offence.(FORGERY, PERJURY PENDING)

3. CERTIFICATE/ARMY RECRUITMENT: – Buhari presented no certificate to the Nigerian Army in 1961 when Late Ahmadu Bello conscripted him from his School (Still In session) to join the Army, as he has none. The only paperwork came from his school principal, stating that,

4. , “I consider that he (Buhari) will pass west African school certificate, with credit in English, Maths and three other subjects”. This letter is self-explanatory. You cannot pass an examination you never sat for.

5. NIGERIA DEFENCE ACADEMY (NDA): – Buhari did not attend the NDA as claimed. He attended Royal Military Forces Training College (RMFTC) for months (End of 1961 to the beginning of 1962) for normal Army recruitment and physical fitness training

6. This is not a certification programme. RMFTC was renamed NDA (established on the 5th of February 1964), and regular courses were introduced thereon.

7. UK MILITARY TRAINING: Buhari attended the Aldershot based, Mons Officer Cadet School. No Certificate was issued to Buhari, as he passed no examination for the short period he was in the UK in 1963. Cadet School information collaborates this.

8. DEFENCE SERVICE STAFF COLLEGE, WILLINGTON, INDIA: – As usual, Buhari attended the staff college and did not sit for their examinations. The Defence Services Staff College, Willington does not issue a certificate of attendance to its attendee in 1974.

9. US WAR COLLEGE: – Buhari left this College in 1980. He has in his Wikipedia page that he was offered a Master Degree in the same college in 1980.

10. THE US War college have confirmed that they started their Master program in the year 2000 and there is no way Buhari would have gotten a Masters degree in that college in 1980. Again, no certificate was issued to him.
Veritable facts

Has Femi Fani Kayode's marriage crashed?

Former Aviation Minister Femi Fani-Kayode who is currently in his third marriage yesterday thanked God for using Apostle Johnson Suleiman to expose the plan of the enemies against his wife Precious Chikwendu.

According to Suleiman, FFK needs to pray because he saw plans to assassinate his wife when God revealed the prophecies of 2018 to him.

However, another news media platform, Sahara Reporters, alleges that FFK used that post as a means to cover up the already crashing marriage.

Parts of the reports read:

In reality, unknown to many, Fani-Kayode had accused his wife of infidelity. The woman, disclosed family sources, is said to be pregnant with a set of triplets.

However, the husband is said to be denying responsibility. The former minister, in a text message to members of his family and friends to him and his wife, said the man responsible for the pregnancy, said Mr. Fani-Kayode, is a US-based DJ.

Also in the text, which had the family of the former National Security Adviser, Colonel Sambo Dasuki, in copy, the former minister told friends that he no longer wants to have anything to do with the wife, advising their friends not to render financial assistance to her.

“No friend of hers can remain mine. I urge you to be very careful of this mad, ungrateful, deceitful and treacherous woman”, he warned friends.
.
Fani-Kayode started physically abusing Precious from the first year of the marriage, a fate that befell her three predecessors. He was said to have ordered her to abort the pregnancy that resulted in their son.
Precious ignored him but got savage beatings. It has grown worse with the allegation of infidelity. She is also said to have been relieved of the Mercedes Benz G-Wagon bought for her by Mr. Fani-Kayode.
.
Precious is back to driving 2009 Honda car and has had her police escort withdrawn by the husband. Prophet TB Joshua is said to have waded in and invited Precious to Lagos. But all the horrors Precious has been subjected to are masked by the husband’s extravagant show of affection on Facebook. This conveys the impression that things are smooth with them, a tactic he used in the case of his 3 ex-wives.

It’s too early in the year for this kind of drama. We hope this is just one of the rumours.

‘Nigerians have confidence in President Muhammadu Buhari’s integrity’

Catholic Archbishop of Lagos, Most Rev. Alfred Adewale Martins has called on the nation’s law enforcement agencies to intensify efforts into the rescue of several reverend sisters who were kidnapped from the Eucharistic Heart of Jesus Convent in Iguoriakhi in Edo State by gunmen on November 14 in Edo State.

Condemning the increased spate of kidnapping in the country, Martins, at a press conference at the Holy Cross Cathedral hall in Lagos, to mark this year’s World Day of Peace, said that it was dangerous for the sisters being women to still be in the hands of their captors after 48 days.
“Today is the 48th day that the sisters have been in the hands of the kidnappers, so it has been a big source of worry and concern knowing that they are women,” he said, adding that the Benin archdiocese had been in collaboration with security agencies in the state and the country as well as the state government to secure their release.
“It is really disheartening that in spite of all their efforts, the sisters are still there in bondage. It is disheartening that the security agencies have not been able to get the sisters out and one wonders why this is the case.
“We still do hope that the security agencies would do much more than is being done now in order to ensure that the sisters are released,” he said.
Answering questions on the state of the nation, the Archbishop lamented the plight of Nigerians, just as he called on President Muhammadu Buhari to tackle the issue of poverty and hunger ravaging the nation.
“What we can see very clearly is that the poverty level in our country is very high, we sit in our offices as priests and we come in contact with the ordinary people who are really undergoing the pains of the problems of our economy.
“And we see them everyday coming to ask for even the smallest things that one can imagine. Therefore it hits us very straight in the face when we come in contact with these people. So, obviously, it means that the governments at all levels need to do a lot more than is being done right now.
“We were told that the economy was in recession and that it is out of recession now, of course, the economists can tell us more about that but what we know is that it doesn’t seem to be making as much impact on the day-to-day lives of Nigerians. And that is where the test of whether we are in recession or not is,” he said.
The Archbishop called on the Federal Government to use all its material and human resources to cushion the effects of the hardship to safeguard the lives and well being of Nigerians, enjoining the Presidency to be explicit in its explanations to Nigerians on the $1 billion being requested from the excess crude account as funds needed to fight insurgency.
Martins further explained that although Nigerians had confidence in the integrity of President Muhammadu Buhari, there were still sceptics who may doubt the sincerity of using the money to fight terrorism due to previous experiences in the nation.
“We are very cynical now given the experiences we have had over the years about government generally spending monies,” he said, stressing that inadequate explanation was the reason some people were suspicious that the money were intended for electioneering campaigns since it was not routed through the 2018 budget.
Commenting on the plight of the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Nigeria and other Nigerians being sold into slavery in foreign nations, the cleric said the church had various organisations reaching out to them to cushion their plight.
He added that the church was also collaborating with various government agencies to reach out and alleviate sufferings of IDPs in line with the visions of the Pope.
Referring to the Pope’s MeMartinis World Day of Peace which focused on issues of Migrants and Refugees: Men and Women in Search of Peace, Martins said that if the Nigerian government should ensure even and appropriate distribution of the nation’s resources to discourage illegal migration.
He said that the Pope’s message was timely as it addressed issues youths migrating from Nigeria and perishing on the Mediterranean Sea and the deserts, adding “It is the duty of every country to discourage illegal migration,” he said.
Pope Francis in his 2018 World Day of Peace message tagged; ‘Migrants and Refugees: Men and Women in search of Peace” which was read by Prof. Pat Utomi said that 22.5 million of the world’s population were refugees in search of a peaceful place to live and risked a lot in the process.
“In a spirit of compassion, let us embrace all those fleeing from war and hunger, or forced by discrimination, persecution, poverty and environmental degradation to leave their homelands,” the Pope said.
Pope Francis urged the world to pay attention to refugees and migrants quoting various scriptures on need to accommodate foreigners.
He identified the causes of migration and highlighted a four pact action plan for the Catholic Church, United Nations, individuals and governments to cushion the hardship of refugees and migrants.
The World Peace Day is set aside annually to spread the gospel of peaceful co-existence amongst peoples of the world.
The event began with a Holy Mass at the Holy Cross Cathedral with the Archbishop of Lagos, Most Rev Dr. Alfred Adewale Martins as the Chief Celebrant, and he was assisted by the Director of Social Communicators, Msgr. Gabriel Osu.
The event also witness the full participation of members of Catholic Media Practitioners Association of Nigeria (CAMPAN), Papal Knights/Medalists and some government officials.

We will capture Lagos in 2019 - PDP

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) said on Tuesday it would capture Lagos in the 2019 governorship election.

The PDP Publicity Secretary in the state, Mr Taofeek Gani made the assertion in an interview with newsmen in Lagos.
“We will shock the All Progressives Congress (APC) by winning the governorship election in Lagos in 2019,’’ Gani said.
According to him, 2019 will be the beginning of the end of the APC-led government in the state.
Gani said the party had mapped out strategies to unseat the ruling party, adding “with the new spirit in PDP in Lagos, we are sure of winning in 2019’’.
He described the performance of Gov. Akinwunmi Ambode as “dismal’’, claiming that “Lagosians are eagerly waiting for the PDP to take over and deliver purposeful leadership’’.
The party’s spokesman added: “We will shock the APC in 2019, take my words, we already have lots of novel ideas to wrestle them from power.
“For now, we will keep our strategies sealed, when the game starts, we will unleash them.
“Ambode has failed in purposeful governance, what we see is propaganda and project planet, the people desire change, which is PDP.”
According to him, the party has successfully resolved its internal crisis and is working assiduously to ensure a successful primary in the state.
Gani described recent media report on the defection of 1500 PDP members to the APC in the state as mere propaganda.
“It is laughable to hear that 1500 PDP members decamped to APC in Oshodi, this is outrageous propaganda.
“I am from Oshodi-Isolo, the area remains the strongest nest of PDP, we won all elective offices in the 2015 general elections, in spite the presence of the APC state chairman in the area,’’ he said.
He said the party would also embark on aggressive membership drive in 2018 to position itself for victory.

I am not happy paying civil servants half salaries – Governor Aregbesola

Gov. Rauf Aregbesola of Osun State on Sunday said he was not happy paying half salaries to civil servants and political appointees in the state.

The information is in a statement by Mr Adelani Baderinwa, the state’s Commissioner for Information and Strategy in Osogbo.
Baderinwa stated that the governor said this when Federal Government team on digital switch over visited him at the governor’s office.
He quoted Aregbesola as saying “economic downturn induced by brazen corruption, wanton theft of crude oil and mismanagement of the country’s resources by the last administration forced the state to what it was witnessing today.’’
According to the governor, no reasonable person or government will be happy not performing its required responsibility.
He added that “we are not happy paying modulated salary to our workers in the civil service and political appointees. We are compelled by financial reality.
“Contrary to the lies around , it is not all our workers that receive half salary.
“Workers on levels 1-7, being the most vulnerable and the largest chunk of the workforce are being paid full salary.
“Workers on levels 8-10 receive 75 per cent of their salary, while levels 12 upward collect 50 per cent of their salary.
“The workers have shown maturity, support and understanding. We acknowledge and appreciate the sacrifices and support of the workers.”
Aregbesola, however, said the financial burden on the government was incurred to provide infrastructure and develop the state.
