WWII Veteran Comes Out As Transgender At The Age Of 90

A British soldier who served in World War II is now coming out as transgender at the age of 90.

Patricia Davies of Leicestershire, England, spent 87 years of her life known as “Peter” to the outside world.Now she says life’s too short to not be who she really is.

Patricia is taking estrogen to transition.

“It feels like a weight has been lifted off my shoulders. I was living a lie ,” she said, according to HuffPost UK. “I have been keeping quiet. I have slowly started to tell some of my neighbors. Everybody said ‘Don’t worry, as long as you’re happy.’”

Davies says she has known she was a woman since the age of three.

“I didn’t want to play with girls’ toys. I didn’t want toy soldiers.I wanted and ironing board ,” she said, according to the Mirror. “My mother seemed to go along with it. We went to see ‘Peter Pan’ and I wanted to be a fairy. She made me a wand. She didn’t say it was strange.”

Although Davies knew she was really a woman, expressing it was not an option. The term “transgender” was unknown back then.

She kept her true self a secret to friends, family and the British Army, in which she served from April 1945 until April 1948.

“I had to keep my mouth shut about being transgender, you couldn’t flaunt that as that would have been a disaster,” she said, according to HuffPost UK. “I would have been classed as homosexual, which would have caused problems in the Army. I would have ended up in prison. But I got through it.” 

Prior to her transition, Davies was married to a woman for 63 years.

“I was 60 when it all came pouring out to my wife, she was very sympathetic  and helped me all the way but we agreed to keep it quiet,” Davies said, according to the Independent. “She used to buy me jewelry and she would call me Patricia. I kept it a complete secret.”

Davies’ wife died six years ago. Davies continues to wear her ring during interviews.

Davies finally decided to transition in 2015 after seeing “Boy Meets Girl,” a BBC sitcom featuring transgender characters.

The show made her feel that the world had progressed to the point where she could be herself.

“It’s not 100 percent safe now but it’s much better than it was. People that I have told seem to be very accommodating and haven’t thrown abuse at me,” Davies said, according to HuffPost UK. “I’m known to pretty much all the old faces in the village. I’m quite content now and I wear a skirt and blouse. I don’t wear any men’s clothes any more.”

“If people don’t like what they see then I don’t care but no one seems to be causing me any trouble. Nobody questions it though. Nobody seems to bat an eyelid, they accept me as I am.”

As a transgender man being a couple years on hormones, I thought I would never see a period again. I was wrong.
Friday I noticed bleeding and turns out the monster had returned after not making an appearance for at least two years. I got in contact with my doctor
she mentioned it could be caused from being late on my hormone shot or missing shot day. I had never heard of this happening and didn’t know it was possible.
I’ve gotten upset a number of times because of this. A situation as small as this, has made me feel less of the man I know I am. In my mind, boys don’t get periods. They aren’t supposed to. But me, having one right now, is torture. I’m hoping I won’t see it again.
This has definitely made me more aware of being consistent with my shots.

German Transgender Man Becomes First In Europe To Have A Baby.

A transgender man is the first in Europe to give birth to a baby after becoming pregnant through a sperm donor.The unidentified man, who was born a woman, delivered the baby boy at home with a midwife in the poor Neukoellin district of Berlin.
He insisted on a home birth because he refused to be listed as the mother on any hospital documents - a legal requirement of in Germany.

The father, who maintained the reproductive organs of a woman, has been taking hormone replacement therapies for years to switch sexes.
Details about the sperm donor or any relationship information has been withheld from the public as the father wanted to protect his son from any attention.

Officially the child, who was born on March 18, does not have a mother, only a father.
A spokesman for the Berlin Senate Administration for Internal Affairs said: 'The person in question did not want to appear as a mother but as a father on the birth certificate and that request has been honoured.'

The expectant father also demanded that the gender of the child was 'not to be revealed under any circumstances'. But the authorities overruled this and announced it was a boy.
Germany's media reacted with astonishment at the news of the transgender birth.
'Baby belly instead of a beer belly!' was just one of the many headlines in German newspapers reporting on the birth.

Meanwhile Falko Liecke, the conservative councillor in the district where the baby was born, said: 'This is something I have never heard or seen of.'
In 2011 Germany's Supreme Court ruled that an individual no longer had to have his or her's reproductive organs removed 'to gain civil legal recognition in the perceived gender'.
That is why the father of this latest child became a man while retaining all the female reproductive organs.

Dr Tobias Pottek of the Asklepios West Hospital in Hamburg said: 'Even if a woman wants to live as a man and takes hormones to grow a beard, as long as the uterus and ovaries are present, it is also possible to become pregnant.
It is the first case of a child born in Europe of a transgender parent, but in the U.S. the case of Thomas Beatie, a transgernder man who has had three children, is well known.
Mr Beatie was seeking a divorce from his wife, but was refused because the judge could not prove if the he was a man when he married.
The judge decided there was no jurisdiction to grant a divorce if the marriage was not recognized.
