My husband can’t afford even the cost of my under wear, woman tells court

A housewife, Amina Sulaiman, has told an Ilorin Area Court in Kwara State, that her husband, Ibrahim Babaoja, could not even afford the cost of  her underwear.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Amina, in her testimony, begged the court to dissolve their seven-year-old marriage because her husband refused to take proper care of her.

She told the court that she had been saddled with all the family’s responsibilities, which had become unbearable for her.

“Our marriage is blessed with two children, but to eat in the house is a problem.

“He will not pay the children’s school fees; he cannot even afford to give me money for my underwear.

“There is always chaos in the house; I can no longer tolerate his lackadaisical attitude.

“I pray the court to put an end to this marriage,” she begged the court.

The respondent, Babaoja, was not present in court to defend the allegations,

The presiding judge, Mr Abdul Quadri, said that the respondent had earlier sent a letter of consent to divorce.

Quadri ordered the dissolution of the marriage on the ground that both parties had agreed to it.

I caught her lover stark naked in her room —Husband

My lord, my wife is a harlot. She will kill me if I don’t end our relationship now. Please, separate us so that I can live in peace.”

These were the words of Olusola Aremu, before Ile Tuntun Customary Court, Mapo, Ibadan, Oyo State.

According to Tribune online,Olusola had dragged his wife, Adesola Aremu, to court alleging that she was troublesome and promiscuous.

He stated that stories of his wife’s illicit love affairs had filtered into his ears, but she was always denying it.

He added that he had on some occasions sighted her in the company with her lovers and when he challenged her, she would ask if he caught them making love to her.

Olusola stated that he had patiently waited for the day he would catch her pants down and this eventually happened.

He narrated thus: “My lord, I count myself unfortunate because I made a wrong choice in marriage.

“I’m married to a woman who is not   satisfied with just a man. She derives satisfaction hanging out and sleeping with other men.

“Anytime I accuse her of engaging in illicit affairs, she would flair up and demand for a proof.

“My lord, I felt justified the day I returned home late and met the house quiet.

“I walked into the sitting room and greeted, but no one answered.

“I was taken back; I thus made for my wife’s room.

“I was shocked at what I saw.

“I saw a man in my wife’s room at that late hour. The man was stark naked.

“My wife at this time was in our courtyard.

“I challenged him after which I beat the hell out of him.

“I seized his shoes and handset as evidence.

She later went to report me at the police station that I stole her husband’s shoes and handset.

“I was arrested by the police and locked up for a day.

“By the time I was released she had left home.

“She later came to pack her belongings with the help of a policeman. She left with my generator and deep freezer.

“My lord, I believe my life is no longer safe if she had the audacity to bring  her lover into my house and sleep with him.

“I pray the court to separate us so that I put my life in order again.

“I’m also no more interested in our marriage, Adeola told the court that:

“He’s fond of beating me. I started sleeping in my shop when I couldn’t take his beatings any longer.

“I sell drugs and anytime he sees me discussing with a male customer, he goes irate.

“The person he lied he caught naked in my room is my customer. He met him in my shop and not in  our house.

“He embarrassed my customer by shouting at him that he was my concubine.

“He apologised to me that night when I threatened to walk out of our marriage. We made up and made love that same night.

“I later reported him to the police when he refused to release my customer’s handset which hindered him from reaching his contacts or carry out business transactions.

“My lord, I told the police he was not my husband because we got married in an illegal way.

“He presented himself to my legal husband as my brother when he came to pack my things from my husband’s house and moved them into his house.

“I own the generator he made mention of. I bought it with my money. I likewise gave him money for the deep freezer which he bought in his name, “she concluded.

The court president, Chief Agbaje Olasunkanmi, after listening to the duo adjourned the case till September 7.

Cheating husband dies in car crash while taking his mistress home

A 23 year old Father of two, Kadeel Newby, was killed in a drunk-driving car crash while he was taking his mistress home.
Newy was described as driving like Top Gear’s Stig before losing control of his Toyota Yaris. Mechanic Newby, who was not wearing a seatbelt, and 21-year-old lover Natasha Gregson were catapulted out of the rear window of the vehicle after it ploughed into railings.
She survived with a fractured skull and a laceration to her liver but Newby died later in hospital from multiple injuries.

Blood tests showed he was one-and-a-half times the drink driving limit. This week Newby’s wife Korette, 26, listened as details of her husband’s six-day relationship with Natasha were revealed at an inquest into his death.

In a statement Natasha, who was not at the Bolton hearing at the request of Korette said:

“He always picked me up in his Toyota Yaris but he never wore his seatbelt, it was plugged in and he sat on it.”When I had been with Kadeel his driving was erratic. He drove like the Stig, at some points I wanted to tell him to stop. It was like the world was going to stop and he wanted to get there quick.”

The 2am tragedy occurred in Horwich, Bolton, on October 12 after Newby had earlier picked up Natasha to take her out for the evening in Manchester.

Kadeel and wife Kolette married in 2011 and had two children Kashai, six, and Lauriyon, three.
But last year the pair from Mossley, Greater Manchester, began arguing with each other and last October he began a relationship with Natasha, who lives in Bolton.
Pharmacy technician Korette told the inquest:

“I still can’t believe he’s gone and don’t know how I will ever get over this. We were each other’s world, inseparable really. The last week of Kadeel’s life was in no way typical of Kadeel’s behaviour of our relationship. I don’t want anyone to judge his life based on that.”

My husband rapes me in presence of our children, woman tells court

A 40-year-old trader, Bolanle AbdulKareem, has begged the court to dissolve her 17-year marriage because her husband always rapes her in the presence of their children.

She made this plea at an Igando Customary Court, Lagos, on Wednesday.

Bolanle said her husband, Olasunkanmi, with whom she had three children, always molested her whenever he got drunk.

She said, “My husband rapes me in the presence of our children.

“Whenever my husband comes home drunk, he will want to make love to me by fire by force and I will caution him not to do it in the presence of our children.”

“He will beat me and make love to me by force while the children watch us.

“There was a day I came back from work and I met my children, one on top of another, doing what they always see their father do to me,’’ she further told the court.

The petitioner also said her husband always threatened to kill her.

“My husband derives pleasure in beating me. There was a day he beat me and broke my leg.

“One day, he threatened to kill me, so I ran to one of my relation’s house.

“My husband came there, he met my sister’s husband ironing his clothes; he snatched the iron from him and started chasing me with it.

“Seeing his desperation, I ran into the street and my husband still chased me with the pressing iron.

“Anytime I report him at the Police station, the Police always tell me that it is a family matter and they refused to caution him.”

She described her husband as an “irresponsible husband and father who did not care about the welfare and education of the children.”

According to her, Olasunkanmi neither cares for her nor the children, adding that she is the one paying the school fees of the children.

“He has a tricycle that he is using for business but he always uses the proceeds to drink himself to a stupor and usually loses self control.”

She begged the court to dissolve their marriage, adding that she was no longer in love with the husband.

However, Olasunkanmi, who did not deny the allegation of raping his wife, begged the court not to dissolve the union.

“Please, do not dissolve our marriage, I still love my wife. I know I have made a mistake; I will make amends,’’ he said.

The 42-year-old commercial tricycle operator admitted that he used to beat his wife, whenever she flouted his orders.

“I don’t derive pleasure in beating her but I only beat her whenever she disobeys my instruction.

“The day I snatched the pressing iron from my in-law, I only wanted to use the iron wire to beat her and not to burn her.”

He said that he was not a drunk but that he drank moderately.

The President of the court, Mr. Adegboyega Omilola, ordered the couple to come along with three members of their families for Alternative Dispute Resolution.

Omilola adjourned the case till May 9, 2017 for further hearing.

Tragedy as Pastor Goes Missing for 3 Weeks Only to Be Found Hang To Death in the Bush

A South African pastor identified as Msawakhe Makhathini (29) from Mzulwini Village in Maphumulo, north of KZN went missing for three weeks only for him to be found dead and decomposing in the bush.
According to Daily Sun SA, the decomposed body of Pastor was found in KwaDukuza on Thursday.

A rope was found hanging from a tree near his body. Msawakhe had been missing for several weeks.
The pastor’s apparent suicide shocked his congregation. But his family believes a criminal act could be involved.

A member of his church said if the pastor took his life, they would be disappointed as he had always preached that they should not commit sins that would cast them out of heaven.

“We are shocked. We don’t know what really happened but if he took his life, that would be very sad,” said a member of his congregation.
His family told the People’s Paper that they too had unanswered questions. His sister, Celiwe Makhathini (30), said he went missing on 6 February after visiting his lover in Ntshawini.

“We want police to investigate what led to his death,” Celiwe said.
She said they believed the lover was hiding something since she apparently disappeared after Msawakhe’s body was found.
KZN police spokesman Lieutenant-Colonel Thulani Zwane said an inquest docket was opened at KwaDukuza cop shop.

22-year-old man beheads 72-year-old woman over land dispute in Ogun State

A  72-year-old woman, Funmilayo Shada, was reportedly beheaded by a 22-year-old man,  Adeoye Ikugbayigbe, following a land dispute. Adeoye was arrested by Officers of the Ogun State Police Command, after the deceased’s son Ekundayo Shada laid a complaint at the Abigi Divisional Headquarters on Monday, after seeing the suspect with a polythene bag when he went to meet his mum at their farm.

Lady bathed with acid for rejecting marriage proposal.

When Miss Ogochukwu Nwosu, 35, was leaving her residence on October 6, 2016, she didn’t know that danger was lurking around. Ogochukwu, who is presently battling to live at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH), was bathed with acid at Ilasamaja bus stop, Oshodi- Apapa Expressway, Lagos. The victim was attacked by an unknown man.

The man was said to have jumped down from a motorbike, doused Ogochukwu with acid and jumped back on the motorcycle.

The incident was reported to the police.

Investigation led to the arrest of Mr. Chidi Ubochi anjonjo and his wife, Nkiru.

The couple are presently in police custody for allegedly pouring acid on Ogochukwu over a love affair related issue. They have also denied the allegation. One of the counsel to Ogochukwu, on the platform of Women Advocates Research and Documentation Centre (WARDC), M.N. Obiagbaoso, attributed the travail of her client to her refusal to marry anjonjo, who had earlier proposed.

Obiagbaoso recounted: “Ogochukwu and Ubochianjonjo had been relating well for some time. She was about to start a relationship with him when she discovered he is married and has children. She told him she wouldn’t marry him unless he gets permission from his wife. The man went to his wife, Nkiru, to seek permission to marry Ogochukwu.

The wife later started sending threatening text and WhatsApp messages to Ogochukwu. She said our client should leave her husband. “Another man later came to ask for Ogochukwu’s hands in marriage.

While they were planning for the marriage, Ubochianjonjo said Ogochukwu would get married only over his dead body. He said he wouldn’t allow her to get married to another man. Three days before the acid incident, Ubochianjonjo went to her Ubochineighbourhood with two men. Ogochukwu’s relatives challenged him.

He told them that he was in the neighbourhood for personal business.”

Obiagbaoso said that on the day the acid was poured on Ogochukwu, she was returning from work. She was standing at Ilasamaja bus stop, on Oshodi- Apapa Expressway, waiting for bus, when two men on a motorcycle suddenly appeared from nowhere. One of them tossed a liquid at her and jumped on the motorcycle; they zoomed off. The liquid was acid; Ogochukwu fell to the ground and screamed in pains.

She was assisted by sympathisers. Obiagbaoso said: “The next day, Nkiru called and told her that the acid bath was the beginning of her pains.” Ogochukwu’s brother, Mr. Peter Nwosu, said that since the incident, his sister has become a shadow of herself.

He said that the incident plunged the family into sorrow and truncated Ogochukwu’s marriage plans. Peter said: “My sister is presently battling to live. The first day my mother saw her after the acid bath, she fainted. My mother had to be on hospital admission for a month. Ogochukwu’s face and body have changed.

In fact, we don’t allow her to look at the mirror. If she sees her image, she might commit suicide.

I don’t understand why a man would pour acid on a lady just because she refused to marry him. Ubochianjonjo approached my sister for marriage. She refused on the grounds that he already has a wife and children. His wife started threatening my sister with text and WhatsApp messages and telephone calls. The next thing was acid bath.” Peter said that he was surprised when Nkiru started calling Ogochukwu, threatening her.

On one of the days that Nkiru called, Peter picked. Peter recalled: “She said that if my sister survived, she wouldn’t try to date another woman’s husband next time. In fact, there are many threatening text and WhatsApp messages from Ubochianjonjo and Nkiru.”

He continued: “We’re doing everything possible to save her. She has done seven surgeries in the last six months.

The last surgery was carried out last Monday. I have sold my two cars and other properties to foot her medical bills, which is running to millions of naira. Each surgery carried out cost N180, 000 in addition to about 56 injections. Each of the injection costs N11, 000.” Ubochianjonjo 39 and Nkiru 40, last Wednesday appeared before Magistrates’ Court 15 in Lagos State, for allegedly bathing Ogochukwu with acid.

According to charge No: 0/18/2017, Chidi Ubochianjonjo and Nkiru Ubochianjonjo, were arraigned on a four-count charge.

Count I states: “That you, Chidi Ubochianjonjo and Nkiru Ubochianjonjo on or about the 6th of October, 2016, at Ilasamaja bus stop, Ilasamaja, within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court did conspire with others at large to commit felony to wit, attempted murder and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 411, Cap C17 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.”

The defendants, who were called into the dock, pleaded not guilty to the four-count charge. But despite the plea by their lawyer, Mr. Ezhemaze, that the court should grant them bail, the presiding magistrate, Mrs. J.O.A. Adepoju, denied the defendants bail and adjourned the matter till April 11, for Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP) advice.

Speaking to New Telegraph, the four lawyers watching brief for the complainant, Anthony Obi, Louis Nwaugbala, Adeyinka Oriabolu and M.N. Obiagboso, commended the ruling. Efforts to get reactions from the Ubochianjonjos on the several charges levied against them proved abortive.

The couple’s lawyer, Mr. Ezhemaze, said he wouldn’t like to speak on the matter since it has been referred to the DPP.

Police arrests Lagos traders who sold beans preserved with Sniper (photo)

Three siblings trading in beans on Adenekan Street, Alagbado, Lagos State, have been arrested by the police after they allegedly preserved the beans with poisonous insecticide Sniper and still sold it to members of the public.

It was learnt that the traders – Faith Ogbona, Chidioke Ogbona and Sunday Ogbona – were arrested by policemen from the Alagbado division after being alerted by a woman, who caught Chidioke applying Sniper, an insecticide, on the beans.

The suspects Photo: Afeez HanafiWhile Chidioke and Sunday were picked up on Friday, their elder brother, who owned the shop, was nabbed on Sunday when he went to the station to secure their bail.

PUNCH Metro reports that the shop had also been sealed off.

The police said 41-year-old Faith had wanted to influence his brothers’ release by allegedly offering
the divisional police officer a N500,000 bribe, which the latter rejected.

The suspects, who hail from Ebonyi State, were paraded on Wednesday at the Lagos State Police Command headquarters in Ikeja with some bags of the “poisonous beans” and some bottles of Snipers recovered from the shop.

Eighteen-year-old Chidioke told Punch that he wanted to preserve the beans with the insecticide to prevent it from being infested with insects.

He said it was his first time of putting the substance in the foodstuffs, claiming that he deduced his “preservation method” from the use of Sniper to kill rodents.
Chidioke said,

“I just saw it (Sniper) as something that kills insects and decided to use it to preserve the beans and kill the insects therein. I was applying the chemical for the first time when a woman approached me and warned that it was dangerous.

“A few minutes after, some policemen came to arrest me. My brother (Faith) was not around when I put the Sniper in the beans.”

Although the shop owner confessed that his suppliers in Maiduguri, Borno State, where he bought the goods, used some chemicals including Sniper and DD Force, to preserve beans, he said his brother carried out the act without his consent.

Faith, who said he started the business four years ago, also denied offering the bribe to the DPO.
He said,

“I wasn’t around when my brother was caught putting Sniper in the beans. I was called on the telephone and I quickly returned to Lagos from Ibadan (Oyo State), where I had gone for a function. Sunday came to my shop when he learnt some policemen were there and he was also arrested.

“Chidioke just came back from our village. He had never seen me put Sniper in beans. In Maiduguri, if my suppliers wanted to preserve beans, they put DD Force or Sniper in water and spray it on the beans. It will be stored for about three or six months, depending on the quantity of chemicals applied.

“I have never mixed beans with chemicals, but I have been buying the one with chemicals from Maiduguri. If it is stored for a long time, it is not dangerous for human consumption.”

However, Sunday said he just alighted from a motorcycle when the police arrested him.

“I don’t preserve my beans with Sniper. I normally buy the quantity I can sell before insects infest it,” he added.

The state Commissioner of Police, Fatai Owoseni, said the suspects would be charged to court after investigation.

“The excuse the owner of the shop gave was that he was mixing pesticide with beans and that he had been selling it like that. He approached the DPO, thinking he could easily settle the case and get the two other suspects released. He offered her N500,000, but she rejected it,” the CP added.

Three arraigned in court for raping medical doctor’s wife in Benue

A High court sitting in Makurdi, Benue State capital has remanded in prison two suspected armed robbers and rapists who allegedly raped wife of a medical doctor and lecturer (names withheld) at the Benue State University
Three suspects were arraigned yesterday: Terseer Tersoo, Iornegene Jijingi and Gbanwuan Uhentsev.

The presiding judge, Elizabeth Kpojime ordered that the 2nd and 3rd accused persons Iornegene Jinjingi and Gbanwuan Uhentsev be remanded in prison custody while she granted bail to the first accused on the ground of health problem.

The suspects were accused of abducting and raping a wife of a popular medical doctor and lecturer but who did not want his name mentioned.

During the hearing of the case on Wednesday, the Police prosecutor, Inspector Peter Baaki told the court that the accused persons in their statements confessed and admitted to have committed the crime.

Our correspondent reports that the lawyers and prosecutors handling the case adopted and submitted the written statement made by the accused persons during police investigation as plea before the Court for further hearing.

The Inspector in his submission said that he didn't threaten or force the accused before the statement was taken, stressing that the accused made the statement under conducive environment without interference.

According to Inspector Baaki, a police informant had, on September 21st, 2015 called to inform the Area C divisional Police office North Bank, Makurdi that a gang of armed men broke into a residence belonging to a lecturer and a medical doctor at Nyion Layout of Makurdi and robbed, raped and abducted a woman from the compound.

He said: "we went into action and thereafter intercepted and apprehended all the suspects in a Peugeot 406 at Keana local government area of Nasarawa state, and rescued the victim and also recovered weapons including guns, Samsung handsets, two mask tape, two pairs of shoes, one iron cutter from the three suspects."

The first accused person, Tersoo Terseer during his statement of defence, denied making the statement recorded by the police during the preliminary investigation, stating that even though he might have made it, it was done under duress.

However, counsels to the accused person, Terkuma Iorgee, said: "I objected to the confessional statement because my client confined in me that the statement was recorded under duress."

Consequently the state prosecuting counsel, Simon Egede said that, "it is strange for the accused to deny his confessional statement, and I insist that the statement was genuine and professionally done before a senior police officer, which was read and confirmed by him before he voluntarily and willingly signed it, urging the court to admit as evidence."

After the plea, Egede, asked for a date for commencement of trial within trial, and urged the court to remand the defendants in prison custody except Terseer Tersoo who was granted bail on health ground having be operated upon.

However, the defense counsel, Terkuma Iorgee, urged the court to accede to the plea "to enable the defendants prepare for his trial."

Justice Elizabeth Kpojime however adjourned the case to April 10, 2017 for further hearing and continuation of trial within trial.
