NIMASA boss elected Chairman, AAMA

The Director-General, Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Dr Dakuku Peterside, was on Friday elected the new Chairman and President of the Association of African Maritime Administrations (AAMA).

Alhaji Bashir Jamoh, the Executive Director, Finance of NIMASA and Chairman AAMA Conference Local Organising Committee, said this at a news conference in Abuja, drawing the curtain on the third conference of the association.

According to Jamoh, Peterside was unanimously elected by all member nations of the association.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Peterside succeeds Mr Sobantu Tilayi, who is presently the Acting Chief Executive Officer of the South African Maritime Administration.

“The election would serve as a platform for African countries, Asia and European nations to support Nigeria in getting elected into Category `C’ of the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) Council.

He said that the 4th session of the conference would hold in Egypt in 2018, while Namibia and Seychelles got provisional hosting right for 2019.

The executive director noted that South Africa retained the secretariat of the association.

Jamoh, however, said that countries not in attendance at the conference might have encountered visa problem.

He noted that all African countries were automatic members of the association.

Shake Up As Peterside Redeploys NIMASA Directors, Others



The Director General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) Dr. Dakuku Peterside has approved the redeployment of some senior Management staff of the Agency.
According to the DG, the new postings are expected to reposition the Agency towards meeting its statutory mandate as enshrined in the NIMASA Act and other enabling instruments.
The redeployment exercise has Mr. Ibrahim Jibril emerge as the Director, Strategic Management in the Office of the Director General, while Hajia Lami Tumaka, who was the former Head, Corporate Communications as the Director, Special Duties also in the Director General’s office.Also, Mr. Abiodun Akinyosoye takes over as the Director of Administration and Human Resources while Mrs. Aishatu Jumai Musa is the Director, Planning Research & Data Management Services Department and Mr. Audu Abdulsalam is now the Director, Legal Services.

Others include, Mr. Hassan El-Yakub Director, NIMASA Eastern Zone and Mr. Olayemi Abass Director, Western Zone, Mr. Anthony Ogadi Head, Shipping Development and Engr. Abel Femowei as the Coordinator, Central Zone, Warri.

Furthermore, Captain Sunday Umoren is now Head, Maritime Safety and Seafarers Standards Department of the Agency while Mr. Isichei Osamgbi is the new Head, Corporate Communications.
A statement by Hajia Lami Tumaka outgoing Director, Corporate Communications, said the redeployment exercise comes on the heels of the recent promotion which saw to the elevation of eight Deputy Directors as Directors, 15 Assistant Directors to Deputy Directors while 56 grade level 14 officers were promoted to their next grade of Assistant Directors.

It may be recalled that the Director General of NIMASA, Dr. Dakuku Peterside had at several fora reiterated the commitment of the Agency to the repositioning and restructuring of the Agency for greater efficiency and productivity.

Witness Tells Court How Akpobolokemi, Others Laundered Billions Of Naira




An Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) witness, Kanu Idagu in the ongoing trial of former Director-General, Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency, Patrick Akpobolokemi and nine others yesterday told a Federal High Court in Lagos how the defendants set up some committees to launder billions of naira belonging to the agency.

Buhari Appoints Haruna Baba Jauro As New Acting DG NIMASA,

 



President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the appointment of Haruna Baba Jauro as the new acting DG of Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA).
Buhari had only earlier this week appointed Calistus Obi, an Igbo by ethnicity, as acting director general/chief executive of NIMASA and now with no explanation put in someone from the northern part of Nigeria where he hails from.
