Should Nigerian Doctors Start Advertising Medical Tourism?





It’s no news that Nigerians offer the highest patronage of health faculties in India, Turkey, Germany and other parts of the world. Affluent individuals and government officials fly out at the slightest headache for “check up” at enormous cost. The statistics are shocking. According to the President of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Osahon Enabulele, annual spend on medical tourism by Nigerians is now well above N120 billion, with an estimated 5,000 patients travelling to destinations like India and Turkey on a monthly basis, constituting a huge foreign exchange drain to the nation. It’s ironical that those responsible for fixing and improving healthcare delivery in the country choose instead to spend millions of tax payers’ money on medical tourism in other countries.

President Jonathan Approves Appointment Of 13 Governing Boards And Councils Of Medical Bodies.

President Goodluck Jonathan yesterday approved the appointment of 13 governing boards and councils of medical and other related professional bodies.
According to a statement by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator Anyim Pius Anyim, the dates for the inauguration of the Boards will be announced in due course by the Minister of Health.
Nze Austin Nwachukwu is the Chairman of the Radiographers Registration Board. Members are Emerson Otu, Mr. Ikwemelu, Mrs. Esther Flade, Mrs. Ifeoma Ikete, Dr. Tunde Alfred Adepoju, Dr. Ademola Adeyekun, Mrs. Livinus C. Abonyi, Mrs. Ehemaya Ebila, representative of the Federal Ministry of Health and Head of Department of Radiography, University of Maiduguri.
The Medical Rehabilitation Therapist Board is chaired by Dr. Paschal Mogbo and members include Garba Mohammed Fagge, Dr. Hussan Olalekan Ajayi, Mrs. Jocelyn Emma Drew, Mrs. O. O. Medical Doctor Arrested For Raping Patient In Makurdi.





A medical personnel believed to be a practising medical doctor has been arrested by the men of the Benue State Police Command for raping a female patient who was on admission in the hospital.

The alleged rapist (name withheld), is a medical practitioner with Tersoo Clinic located in Naka town of Gwer West local government area of Benue State.

It was gathered that the medical doctor had reportedly tested positive to HIV/AIDs and was receiving Anti Retroviral (ARV) drugs at the General Hospital Naka, before the incident occurred.

It was gathered that the female patient was brought to the clinic for emergency medical attention and had recovered partially before the randy medical doctor pounced on her.

The police public relations officer (PPRO), DSP Daniel Ezeala confirmed the incident and said that the medical doctor had been arrested in Naka and investigation into the matter was ongoing.
